ICSI January 2023

Infertilitylife · 27/11/2022 08:40

Hello,

My partner and I need IVF due to MFI. We are hoping to start treatment in January 2023.

I had my fertility ultrasound scans today and these are my results:

AFC -

Left Ovary - 13 follicles
Right Ovary - 14 follicles

My Endo thickness was 7.3mm (cycle day 10).

I have no masses, cysts, fluid etc - everything looked smooth and normal.
How do these results seem?

I was also told I have a retroverted uterus - will this affect IVF?
Thank you

@User491 Im starting day 21. Strange that they didn’t ask where in your cycle you were but I suppose it doesn’t make much difference in that it suppresses your system anyway.

I get cramps randomly throughout my cycle normally so hopefully they’re not much worse than that.

My OH has said he’ll inject me if I want. I thought he wouldn’t and would be a bit flustered to do it but I’m taking him up on it. He feels a bit out of the loop with everything going on at the clinic as it’s all me dealing with it so at least he can feel a bit involved with the treatment if he stabs me! Lol.

I’m with CARE. Who are you with?

90sarah · 05/12/2022 17:19

Hi, can I join? My and my husband are in the middle of our first ICSI cycle. I had my egg retrieval on Friday and having a frozen transfer (if we get embryos) in January.

Lauralozzle · 05/12/2022 18:22

@90sarah Hi!

January will be here before you know it!

How was your egg retrieval?

@90sarah Hi!

January will be here before you know it!

How was your egg retrieval?

The procedure itself was fine. I don't remember any of it. We got 11 eggs, 10 mature and 6 fertilised. I found I was very emotional the day after, think it was just everything building up to it and I'm so worried that we won't get any embryos to day 5. How is your treatment going?

Lauralozzle · 05/12/2022 18:35

@90sarah I’m glad the procedure went ok. Fingers crossed you get some at day 5. 🤞

I’ve not started yet. I start buserelin on Friday. Ended up calling them today to confirm what time is best for the injections! I’m a bit nervous about it all.

I go in tomorrow for viral bloods though.

90sarah · 05/12/2022 19:07

@Lauralozzle Thank you, we find out of Wednesday if any have made it. 🤞

Once you get started with this injections you will be fine. I was so scared of having to do them before I started, then I only ended up letting my husband do the first one and did all the rest myself. 🙈 It was quite nice to actually be in control of something.

Lauralozzle · 06/12/2022 12:09

Fingers crossed for good news tomorrow @90sarah

Had bloods done today. Now to just wait until Friday before the ball gets rolling. Given DH reaction to having his blood taken this morning I’m betting he chickens out and I have to stab myself! Lol

90sarah · 06/12/2022 17:22

@Lauralozzle Thank you, I'm so nervous.

Oh dear 😂 I hope he's not too nervous about doing it. I'm sure after a couple of days you will be into the swing of things. Good luck for Friday!

Lauralozzle · 07/12/2022 07:47

@90sarah Thinking of you. Fingers crossed they made it! 🤞

hannahsto · 07/12/2022 10:59

Hiya,

Really sorry to jump in on this thread, but we are at our pre-treatment consultation stage which is due at the start of January.

I had a scan back in October to check my lining, egg count and then also a hycosy procedure done at the same time. At this point we were told that we were on the treatment list for IVF.

Now we arent sure what to expect in January - i was wondering if anyone could help? I know you are all a little further forward than i am, but i was just looking to gauge what else we have to get done prior to starting IVF and timescales of it all. (we are first on the list, so im assuming that after this meeting in January we wont be placed on any more waiting lists).

Good luck to you all who are going through IVF/ICIS now and in January :)

Lauralozzle · 07/12/2022 11:17

@hannahsto Hi, good luck for January hopefully things will move quickly. I’m with CARE, so my experience will be a little different to yours but once I was at the IVF referral clinic stage the following happened:

About 3 weeks after I had picked the clinic and informed fertility clinic at hospital I got a call from CARE. Was set up on the portal and arranged a date for another scan (AFC) and consultation with consultant and my husband. Had appointment/scan within 2 weeks.

I had a bit of a delay after that because of my dodgy thyroid and prolactin levels, but once they were sorted I had a list of consents and paperwork I needed to sort out. If my hormones had been fine, this would have been arranged within a couple of days after my scan/appointment. As it happens, it took 3 months but 100% issue with hospital and not the clinic.

So - Consents october

Protocol - early November

Once consents form are signed I got my protocol and rang them up at beginning of my period to start. As NHS, arranged BMI check and blood work for virals.

Consents took about 2/3 weeks as they had to sign them too.
I start down regulation Friday

@90sarah Thinking of you. Fingers crossed they made it! 🤞

We got two day 5 blasts in the freezer! One 5aa and one 4aa. The other 4 eggs are still developing but slower so they are going to keep checking them to see if we can get any more.

90sarah · 07/12/2022 17:39

@hannahsto Hi, I've had a bit of a different journey so far. I had been having various tests for around 6 months with the nhs before my top of the waiting list appointment. We actually ended up going to a private clinic to self fund our first round to speed things up a bit. After my first consultation with the private clinic I started birth control the same day then injections 2 weeks later. Obviously this was so quick due to already having done tons of tests with the NHS. I think everyone is different though but good luck for Jan.

Yay! Two day 5 blasts! Hopefully the others will catch up!

@Lauralozzle Good luck with you injections today!

@Lauralozzle Good luck with you injections today!

Thank you. All done- it wasn’t that bad. I definitely felt it, but it was alright. I’ve preoccupied myself putting Christmas lights up! So, luckily my mind was on other things!

Glad it went okay. The first one is the worst so sure you'll be fine now. Xmas decs are a good distraction.

Sj2505 · 12/12/2022 02:37

Hiya ladies.
Sorry I've been so quiet, I have been reading everyone's updates and rooting everyone on from the sidelines.
@Lauralozzle great to hear your down reg is off to a good start.
@90sarah amazing news about your blasts! When are they are planning FET?

Welcome all new members too!

DH has his surgical sperm retrieval on Tuesday! But things will be a slow burner after that what with Christmas, so we'll likely miss my CD21 of December as that's late next week, so more likely to be CD21 of January. Who knows when that will be as AF is very unpredictable.
I will let you all know how Tuesday goes!! FX for lots of swimmers, but I guess it only takes one 😬

Hope you've all had nice weekends

Lauralozzle · 12/12/2022 07:55

@Sj2505 Oh good luck for Tuesday! Fingers crossed for those swimmers! Do let us know how it goes! You never know, they might let you start cycle day 21 this cycle if all goes well. Have you got your meds yet?

we used the ice method yesterday. I numbed it with an ice cube then pinched the skin, OH stabbed me. Barely felt a thing! No redness or itching afterwards as well. OH said it made it a bit harder to push the needle through the skin but we’ll be using ice cube trick going forward! Still feeling fine, so no side effects yet but it’s only been 3 days I suppose I’ll notice them after a couple of weeks maybe?

Sj2505 · 12/12/2022 08:20

@Lauralozzle unfortunately not. They said we would have to have another treatment planning after the SSR, as they don't want to progress until they know if we have sperm to work with. They also held off with my initial bloods until he'd had his bits done. They didn't want to prepare everything incase there's a delay if we don't have sperm 😫
I think they're pretty confident though. He had a vasectomy 9 years ago, but he's still only 38 and has three children before so FX!

That sounds like a good trick. Have you tried laying down vs standing? I don't know if there would be a difference, but worth a shot.
What are you taking?

Autumbreeze · 12/12/2022 09:12

@Lauralozzle hopefully you'll not have any side effects. I was absolutely fine with mine... except for the horrendous period for a few days. Well done as well... we used the ice a few times but in the end we stopped and just went for it. We did all ours standing.

@Sj2505 good luck for tomorrow. Sounds positive so have everything crossed for you. I'm starting mid-Jan all being well. Collecting meds the begging of Jan.

Lauralozzle · 12/12/2022 09:47

@Sj2505 Fingers crossed for you it all goes to plan! Jan will be here before you know it!

First two were standing. Yesterday I sat down which was better, rolls of fat are easier to grab!!

User491 · 12/12/2022 11:53

Morning everyone,
@Lauralozzle so pleased your finding it ok 😊 I'm on day 16 today and no real side effects, I have had a headache every day pretty much, but so many bugs going around too. Hoping your the same!
Period arrived today 🙄 so far just as normal, and it's actually my period due days too. I've been worried that the meds weren't having an effect, but I read somewhere that your period does sometimes come as usual.
We aren't in at the clinic until next Tuesday for an update scan.

@Sj2505 good luck for tomorrow, hope it goes well and lots of sperm 🤞🏻

I've not tried the ice cube trick, I'm managing without, I have been sitting for mine, defo easier to grab the flab 🤣 I started doing them round the side of my stomach, but now do then nearer to my front and they haven't hurt as much.

I thinking, as much as I don't have symptoms, I do think I have a bit of brain fog! My head is quite literally up my arse most of the time 🤣 I cannot be bothered with Christmas, I think i just want January to be here so not bothered. And I LOVE Christmas usually. I'm going to get the Christmas songs on today and hope that they get me in the mood (tried and failed this about 10 times over the last week already 🙈)

Hope you all had a good weekend?

Sj2505 · 12/12/2022 11:55

@Autumbreeze if AF comes on or around when she supposed to then CD21 would be around the 18th Jan, so we'd be almost in sync.
That's if they're open for scanning around the end of December for CD1 though. Hopefully they'll be able to get me in soon for treatment planning so I can ask all of these questions haha.

@Lauralozzle just a case of powering through I guess. What will be your next appointment? Stim scans?

Sj2505 · 12/12/2022 11:58

@User491 "heads up my arse" that made me giggle haha!
Glad you're doing ok otherwise.
I'm the same, I love Christmas but I just want January to be here!
