Any tips for how to survive the wait to receive an update on my embryos? Found out yesterday 7 of the 11 eggs collected fertilised and struggling with the wait since. We get another update Friday morning. Confused

SamTTC · 21/04/2022 06:16

@ginandtonicformeplease I can’t believe they’re making you wait till Friday, that seems so cruel? Are they expecting there is a chance that it will start growing faster? Otherwise I can only imagine you must be keen to move on and have a break/try again (if that is your plan?)

Herewegoagain881 · 21/04/2022 07:19

@SamTTC I'm guessing your message was for me rather than @ginandtonicformeplease (keeping my fingers crossed for a happy result in your scan today 🤞🤞)

EPU said that the only way they can tell there's been no growth is by rescanning me after some time has past. They said "my beta levels were doubling and progesterone was good" so maybe there's a chance, but they aren't IVF experts, I had to repeatedly tell them my progesterone was only good because I'm on so much medication, and while me beta levels were doubling the numbers are too low and beta levels will continue increasing with a blighted ovum.

My clinic just told me to go for the scan and continue meds but aren't hopeful.

I wouldn't mind this lost week so much except I still have to take my meds "just in case". I wouldn't even mind that if it was just a couple of pessaries but it's not, I'm on 2 or

Herewegoagain881 · 21/04/2022 07:23

(Mumsnet update issues again 🤦🏻‍♀️)

I'm on 2 or 3 progesterone injections a day and 1 blood thinning injections. It was bad enough doing those injections when there was hope, but now...it really is just adding to how horrible this all is...but I've only got one more day left now, so it's nearly over..

SamTTC · 21/04/2022 07:33

So sorry messing up the usernames, the website isn’t letting me type into the box so I am having some trouble!
I see, that is incredibly annoying, they are almost giving you false hope in a way. Good that you can see an end to the progesterone! A very small silver lining I suppose.

Herewegoagain881 · 21/04/2022 08:27

@SamTTC yeah, EPU gave me a tiny sliver of hope last week which lasted about half a day until reality crashed down again. I honestly think EPU don't really get it and as my clinic didn't do the scan I didn't get the honest realistic answers I probably would have gotten from them. I don't have hope now and spent the week on/off grieving, just going through the motions. In the grand scheme of things this extra week of waiting will be pretty much forgotten soon. The only good thing is we're not paying for the 2 scans as it's being done through epu rather than my clinic, which would have been an extra £500 on top of a really expensive failed transfer..

AliceAbsolum · 21/04/2022 10:30

Our thread isn't having much luck is it.
I'm spotting :( Going to the epu at 3.30pm for a scan. No idea what they will be able to see at 6+1.
I'm really angry

Morning all and thanks for the welcomes.

@Steph2345 my OTD is next Friday. Because I've had a medicated FET, my clinic says to test on day 15. I've always had fresh transfers or natural FETs before and tested on day 11 so I'm not looking forward to the extra days of waiting.

I know symptoms can be different each time but the only time I got a positive test (which became a chemical) I got extremely tired on day 9 and also noticed breast tenderness which I never usually get on just the meds or before a period. Every transfer since then I hope for the same symptoms... So far though, nothing.

@Autumn245 I've always carried on as usual after transfer as well. I think unless your usual is running marathons and lifting huge weights, normal is good!

@Yoga817 IVF is one long waiting room isn't it... No specific tips other than the usual distractions - but I'm afraid for me, even when I try to distract myself the thought is loitering in the back of my mind. Hang in there.

ginandtonicformeplease · 21/04/2022 10:55

@Herewegoagain881 My experience of an EPU is that they have zero experience of IVF - after diagnosing a MMC at one, the nurse told me I could just try again. I pointed out that it was IVF and so not that easy, and she started talking about adoption. I really hope that you get some answers tomorrow. Are you sure your clinic would charge you for the scans if you had them there? My previous one waived the fee when it was bad news.

I had my scan first thing this morning: the heartbeat was clear to see. The doctor just shrugged and said probably muscle pains about the cramps and aches, and he thinks there may be a small haemotoma (sp?) where the placenta is forming, which may explain the spotting. So so far all looking good. I've been sitting at my desk for the last hour just staring at the scan photo Grin

I'm 7+1 today: I'm going to book another scan for 9 weeks as my MMC were both in week 8.

Steph2345 · 21/04/2022 10:57

@AliceAbsolum hang in there! Hopefully it’s just something that is completely normal and you’ll be able to see you’re little bean growing. I hope the next few hours don’t cause too much stress.

@lucymills1234 i had a full TWW after transfer too and it felt really long! I got poorly after 5 days so it distracted me quite a bit for the next 10 days but I don’t recommend it as a distraction technique at all 😂

ginandtonicformeplease · 21/04/2022 11:12

@AliceAbsolum I've got my fingers crossed for you Flowers

Herewegoagain881 · 21/04/2022 11:35

@ginandtonicformeplease I'm so happy about your good news today!!!

I asked my clinic last week if it would be worth them doing the follow up scan instead of epu but they said they wouldn't do anything different to epu. They didn't mention the cost, I can't remember if they waived the fee last time or not it was so long ago now I just assumed they would charge. I'll see how it goes tomorrow then ask for a follow up scan if needed if I'm not happy with epu's To he honest it'll be so small if there's been no growth, I don't actually know what they can diagnose from a scan at this stage, but I'll ask. Did they give you any explanation for your mmc scans?

@AliceAbsolum hopefully like @ginandtonicformeplease it will be good news, it's so stressful but common to spot.. You should see a gestational sac, yolk sac and fetal pole I think, and you may see a heartbeat at this stage but it's boarderline, I usually went in at 6+5 and there were heartbeats then. I hope your scan goes well 🤞🤞xxx

Steph2345 · 21/04/2022 11:59

@ginandtonicformeplease sorry I torallt
missed your good news! What a relief for you today!

Steph2345 · 21/04/2022 11:59

*totally

ginandtonicformeplease · 21/04/2022 12:24

@AliceAbsolum I think heartbeat can sometimes be seen from 6 weeks but it's not a given. @Herewegoagain881 is right with what you should see at 6+1.

@Herewegoagain881 No diagnosis was ever given, the doctors were flipping between chromosomal abnormalities and immunology problems. All I know for certain is that they stopped growing at 8+3 and 8+4.

For the second one I had a D&C booked and we were going to ask to test the tissue: my body had other ideas though and passed it naturally so we didn't get any answers that way.

Somatronic · 21/04/2022 14:04

@ginandtonicformeplease thank God for that good news!

@AliceAbsolum thinking of you and hoping the spotting isn't anything to worry about. I can't offer advice as I've never been pregnant but everything crossed for you this afternoon x

Herewegoagain881 · 21/04/2022 14:17

@ginandtonicformeplease mine was genetically tested and I'm on steroids and had an interlipid infusion so I don't really understand what went wrong.. So many things have gone though my head, my progesterone absorption wasn't so good this time but it was still 60 which is so much higher than in a normal pregnancy. And it was a day 6 rather than day 5 embryo.. I also wondered if maybe it tried implanting on my scar or maybe I've developed more endo (I had very mild endo a few years back). I had covid in December so it crossed my mind that had an impact, and a mild cold shortly after transfer day...so many variables. In the end I'm unlikely to find out why it didn't work, and that sucks as I don't know what to do differently. I may end up getting a hysteroscopy to check it's not a physical issue although they found no problems when they did a 3DSIS scan 🤷🏻‍♀️

TommieNC · 21/04/2022 14:43

@Herewegoagain881 I felt the same way about the EPU. I know they are not experts in IVF, but it felt like they were just trying to get me in and out as quickly as they could, doing the least amount. I asked for an HCG and they said it was pointless when I can just get a scan in a week and see the results. They said they wouldn’t do another scan since it obviously wasn’t ectopic and unless I had lemon size clots coming out that I didn’t need to come back in. They said I should have another scan in a week but I had to book a private one if I wanted to see if the pregnancy has progressed.

I already have a private Beta scheduled for this Saturday due to my clinic’s request so I went ahead and booked another private beta for tonight. I figure if things stopped yesterday that a test tonight and Saturday should reflect it.

Herewegoagain881 · 21/04/2022 15:22

@TommieNC it doesn't seem right that they said you should have a scan in a weeks time but yet wouldn't offer you one... The Epu I went to were nice and did give me time to talk but I just didn't trust they knew what they were talking about!

I hope your betas go well, I read a lot about betas because of my super low numbers and the rate at which the beta increases slows down over time i.e. your numbers may no longer be doubling every 2-3 days now. I'm sure your clinic will be able to tell you whether your results are showing a good increase though xxx

SamTTC · 21/04/2022 16:12

How did the scan go @AliceAbsolum ? Really hoping for the best.

@ginandtonicformeplease That is such reassuring news ❤️

LT103 · 21/04/2022 16:55

Just catching up again

@Steph2345 just seen your good news! How amazing!!!!

@Herewegoagain881 so sorry to hear about everything you’ve gone through. I don’t think I have anything to add to what’s been said but just take the time you need and be kind to yourself.

@Jampot36 congratulations on the BFP!!!!

@Suki2020 @SamTTC @Autumn245 and @Somatronic congrats on being PUPO! Hope you’re coping ok in 2ww

@Soleste sorry to hear about your chemical. Hope you are doing ok

@TommieNC glad the scan went well. Hoping for good news for you next week!!

@ginandtonicformeplease glad you got to see that little heartbeat!! So happy for you

@AliceAbsolum I hope your scan goes ok today

I think I have missed a few so good luck to those waiting for transfer or in 2WW!!

LT103 · 21/04/2022 16:57

I'm still in limbo here. Waiting on my planning consult a week on Monday then I should have dates for my FET. It really is just all about waiting and wishing your life away isn't it? My EC seems like a lifetime ago now! Though am super excited to see people who had collection at same time as me getting their BFPs! Got to keep up the positive thinking!!

AliceAbsolum · 21/04/2022 17:04

2 sacs, 1 empty, 1 in the right place with a heartbeat.
I'm relived it's not twins.
Not getting too relived overall though because we have been here before.
Scan next week.
Knackered! What a day

Goodness @AliceAbsolum . COMPLETELY understand not wanting to get your hopes up. But so far so good though, right?

AliceAbsolum · 21/04/2022 17:16

Good news. Another hurdle jumped through.
