Those of you with BFPs - did you buy enough medication to take you up to 10/12 weeks? We were only prescribed enough to get to the end of this week so will now have to get more in the hopes that this pregnancy continues 🤞🏼 My question is, if we are now pregnant, are we able to get some or all of the medication on the NHS? Trying to save myself another £500 if I can although I think it’s very unlikely!

thetallgirl · 15/03/2021 09:19

@JessTTC which medication specifically? I was given a private prescription on transfer day for 70 more progesterone pessaries. They should take me to 10weeks. The prescription says patient funded so I'm expecting to pay myself. I googled and thought they would be c.£70 but haven't phoned the pharmacy yet.

Mrbay · 15/03/2021 09:33

@FirstTimeIVFers - I've not had any spotting and got a BFP so I don't think every BFP gets implantation bleeding.

@JessTTC - that would make sense! I'll see what they say!
Ref meds, some GPs will prescribe additional meds via NHS prescription but a lot won't - worth an ask tho!
I'm on a funded cycle, so I had meds up to OTD, I'll get another delivery to take me to scan date and then I'll get the rest after a positive scan.

Morning all, well spotting is getting heavier and there is now a hint of red in it. Im virtually certain I'm getting my period today, which would be the day you'd expect as its 14 days post egg collection. I didn't think you were supposed to bleed through the cyclogest but seems obvious that is whats happening. I'm now worried that my little embryo didn't have enough progesterone support. As we only had one egg this will mean another fresh cycle for us. To top it all something is wrong with one of my cats, he's crying and being sick, hopefully getting whatever it is out of his system but its an added worry on an already shit day!

Kitttycatt · 15/03/2021 09:49

@JessTTC every clinic is different, I'm nhs and was told I wouldn't get anymore pessaries after my BFP! Reasoning is with a fresh cycle I have enough follicles (23+) producing progesterone for me. I'm 6 weeks today and all going ok so far.

thetallgirl · 15/03/2021 09:50

@Kitttycatt that's reassuring because I have been worried about whether my dose is enough, so good to know our bodies can do it naturally even in an IVF cycle.

Kitttycatt · 15/03/2021 09:51

@Motherofkittens28 I'm sorry to hear that. Could you do a test so you know if it's worked? You could ring your clinic as you might need more progesterone x

Motherofkittens28 · 15/03/2021 09:55

@Kitttycatt, maybe if I don't end up with a full bleed today I'll do one in the morning. I've been keeping my clinic informed about the spotting but they just don't seem bothered. I'm definitely not trusting them with my frozen eggs (did an egg freeze 4 years ago when I was single and have 6 in the freezer) I've got one more fresh cycle with them through my access package and then I think I'll go elsewhere to try a round with my precious "young" eggs. Ill never forgive myself if I don't go for the best clinic and end up with no success from them.

DauntedAF · 15/03/2021 10:10

Hi all

I've been taking Clexane suppositories for the last 3/4 weeks with no real issues. I stay lying down for 15-20 mins after. However this morning, and Saturday morning, I found that the majority of the gel discharged back out about a half hour /40 mins later when I went to the bathroom.

I don't understand what would be causing it to fall back out when I haven't changed anything. Any thoughts? Hmm

JessTTC · 15/03/2021 15:22

@DauntedAF I haven’t heard of clexane pessaries but I have cyclogest ‘bum bullets’ am and pm. I try to take it fairly easy for half an hour or so after insertion but next time I go to the loo, the waxy shell comes too! I’ve always been told that the drugs are absorbed within 15-20 minutes and I’m pretty sure you don’t want that waxy stuff staying in there anyway 😂 I’ve found up the back passage creates zero mess and leakage but I think everyone has a preference.
@Mrbay unfortunately I had to cough up another £300 for 3 more weeks of drugs this morning, private prescriptions don’t count apparently 🤷‍♀️ I’d budgeted for the extra drugs so it’s no matter, I just thought I could save a few pennies!

On the upside, I rang my GP this morning after an unhelpful nurse at the clinic advised I get checked for a UTI based on my back ache and 5 days of spotting. My GP was SO kind and lovely and reassuring. Did a pregnancy test, felt my tummy, checked for UTI (which I don’t have) and took my bloods to check my HCG and progesterone and then I go back on Wednesday for second bloods. I have been so terrified about an ectopic pregnancy and she really reassured me and is happy to keep doing my bloods and as soon as is early enough, a scan for my reassurance and anxiety. Clinic said it’s too early to do anything and to take another pregnancy test next Monday and “hope the pregnancy is still there” 🤬 but can I pay £300 for the next lot of drugs! Furious. But so grateful for the NHS ❤️

Maddie020 · 15/03/2021 16:23

Hey ladies,

Hope everyone is doing great.
Sorry been silent but had been too busy with these injections and work. Feel like a forever process Hmm

So, I had my baseline scan today and have 8(5 on right side and 3 on left) and also have cyst on each side.

Clinic has said that they will still go with the plan and I will be taking "Meriofert"(my stimulation injections)

Does this sound right? With Cyst?

So confusing Confused

Thanks in adv xx

RichmondLady1981 · 15/03/2021 16:54

Hi ladies.

Been chatting to you about awaiting my three blasts’ PGT-A results. Really disappointing news on all three.

  1. Complex abnormal
  2. Abnormal
  3. High level mosaic.

Have a consultation with the specialist tomorrow to discuss results. Feeling a bit gutted but can’t expect things to work first time around. I’ve read that ladies my age (39) have to do a few cycles to get a ‘normal’ egg. Have decided I’ve got two more cycles in me to find ‘the one!’ Wish me luck. Will go again as soon as I can.

Kind of explains why we have had no luck in trying naturally over the past year.
In the meantime I’m going to focus on my little boy and enjoy him before the craziness begins again.

I will def keep checking in to follow your stories!!

RichmondLady1981 · 15/03/2021 16:56

Ps I am glad that I had the testing. I had a mmc last summer and I guess this avoids anything like that happening again. They were all good quality 5 day blasts and would have gone ahead and transferred without knowing.

Motherofkittens28 · 15/03/2021 17:49

@RichmondLady1981 so sorry to hear that, how very disappointing, sending lots of hugs! I am also out this cycle, full bleed started this afternoon. I'm 39 also and I just worry that we won't get there, I set the limit for cycles at 6 when we started, I know this is only the first but I'm now changing my mind. I'll do the other round I have with my package and then move on to my frozen eggs if that isn't successful.

Where are you having your treatment? Have they suggested anything to improve egg quality?

dragonfly1978 · 15/03/2021 18:07

@RichmondLady1981 so sorry to hear that, hope you get some answers when you meet with them

thetallgirl · 15/03/2021 18:56

@RichmondLady1981 and @Motherofkittens28 I'm so sorry to hear that. Sounds like you're both in a good frame of mind and strong enough to continue the journey. Take time to reset after this cycle and I really wish you get your BFP in the near future!

wishfulbean · 15/03/2021 19:52

Hi all, Hope it's ok to join a bit late! I'm 7 days post embryo transfer (Grade C, only one viable day 5 out of eight collected and four fertilised, fresh transfer).

Hope everyone's treatment is going well so far!

For those of you who may also be in the 2ww - are any of you experiencing cramping and nausea? I'm also on progesterone suppositories so I know it could be that just curious if anyone else has experienced this as it's been going on for a couple of days now!

Focusing on all the little symptoms I know 😂

Mrbay · 15/03/2021 20:06

@JessTTC - at least you had budgeted for it - shame that they won't cover some of it.
Your GP sounds lovely, I hope you get a good BETA number.
I do find that the clinics do limit their nurse's knowledge on anything outside of the text book IVF

@RichmondLady1981 - I am so sorry but like you said it has prevented heartbreak down the line.
I'm not sure if it does help, but others (myself included) have had better cycles with taking vit D.

@Motherofkittens28 - I am so sorry. I was really hoping for better news for you.
6 cycles was our limit too and then we would have considered other options.

@wishfulbean - welcome!! yep I did!

MrTumbleTumble · 15/03/2021 20:19

@RichmondLady1981 I'm so sorry to hear your news. You do sound like you've got a great mindset though, and you're right, you don't want to "waste" transfers on embryos that were never going to make it. Keeping my fingers crossed that your next round is more successful.

@Motherofkittens28 I'm sorry to hear your news too. I hope the next fresh cycle is the one for you.

I know you both might feel like you don't need it but we found the counselling offered through the clinic really helpful after a number of failed cycles. The counsellor helped us process a lot of the negative feelings, which I think helped us accept the previous poor results and move on with the next cycle, where previously I'd struggled not to continue with the negativity. I was genuinely worried about my mental health after so many failures and it was nice to feel a bit of a release from that.

MrTumbleTumble · 15/03/2021 20:22

@wishfulbean I'm sorry to say that progesterone has caused cramping and nausea on all of my cycles, whether I've been pregnant or not! I'm pregnant for the second time and I can honestly say I felt no different in the run up to the BFPs than I did with the BFNs. I know it's really hard but symptom spotting can drive you insane. Good luck for the rest of the tww and I hope you get your BFP!

RichmondLady1981 · 15/03/2021 20:40

Thanks ladies.

I honestly feel ok and thanks for your support. I think m having my little boy gives me so much strength.

I will aim to get to 10 blasts in total that are tested. If I don’t get one normal then I’ll move on.

Speaking to consultant tomorrow so will let you know.

Mrbay already take high dose. Could do with getting a higher number of eggs at collection as we had 100% eggs make it to day 5 blast. Can you remind me what you did differently to get your higher number?

Have a good eve all. X

Rachae · 15/03/2021 21:02

@RichmondLady1981 @Motherofkittens28 I'm really sorry to hear your news and hope you're ok xx

Well I'm 7 days into stims now and have my scan on Wednesday. 4 weeks of injections now and my tummy is very bruised! Just wondered if anyones EC was brought forward on stims? If so, by how many days? My EC is for a week today estimated... I'm hoping it might be a tad early as I'm super bloated already xd

Mrbay · 15/03/2021 21:11

@RichmondLady1981 - I love your logical mindset.
I went into this cycle with a positive mindset and didn't research!
Moved from long protocol with high stim (cannot recal the drug I was on - maybe bemfola) to short protocol with low stim (ovaleap).
Increased walking for the past 12-months - well I think we all have!
Supplement wise - B12, folate, vit d, Pregnacare Max and ubiquinol (400mg I think). I have previously used DHEA but this gave me my worst cycle so I wouldn't personally recommend without testing levels before and during.

I found this very useful - www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=283000.0

Oh and I found the hypnotherapy very relaxing and useful.

OP posts:
FirstTimeIVFers · 15/03/2021 21:12

@Rachae I was like that with the stims - I couldn’t wear normal clothes and I was bigger than my friend who was 15 weeks pregnant. But after stimming and being uncomfy we got 9 eggs from my EC. So just think it’s gona be practice for when you’re big with baby 🤞🏼 and think of all those big juicy eggs!

RichmondLady1981 · 16/03/2021 07:19

Thank @Mrbay- that’s a great link. Going to raise some of those points with the specialist later. I’ll tell him Dr Bay insisted on these recommendations 😉
