Trying IVF again for baby #2

FingersXssd83 · 05/01/2021 18:44

Took 4 years to have my first baby, including 4 rounds of IVF. She arrived last summer and hoping to get two rounds in this year. I'm breastfeeding atm so will be stopping that next month, trying naturally for a few months to appease DH (it'll never work), and cracking on with a round in before my birthday as I'll be turning 38 this year.

I found IVF a very tortuous slog the first time around. Kind of feels different now that we are a family and trying for a sibling. Have suffered with a bit of PND over be last few months so hoping IVF doesn't set me back but I feel super excited to get going tbh!

Going to contact Access Fertility soon to find out what packages they can offer us.

Be great to hear from ladies in a similar position! x

@whatcangowrong

Ooh it's all going on here since I was last on! Good luck *@BeHereNowx32 and @Herewegoagain83 for your tests, and @FingersXssd83* hope you are finding things ok.

I think I definitely suffered from 'it worked before' optimism on the last transfer, but now I'm the other end of the spectrum and feel like this next transfer is basically a waste of time and money. It's a day 6 hatching CB (or a 3 2 at CARE) blast (previous I've transferred have been at least BB). I have basically finished the internet on embryo grading, and concluded it doesn't have much hope. Anyone got any positive stories on crap embryos to share?

I have no idea what my embryos are graded. I now can't think of any advantage to knowing. Weird given how much we research everything to the extreme and obsess over details, but I'd rather not know this particular thing.

I'm sure yours has a good chance though, if it was good enough to freeze. Better grades will fail and worse succeed. Fingers crossed it's a chromosomal winner 🤞

Herewegoagain83 · 06/05/2021 19:27

@whatcangowrong I think that is going to be me in a weeks time Confused

CARE didn't tell me the grade of my embryos, I have a desire to find out now but probably shouldn't!

BeHereNowx32 · 06/05/2021 20:11

@whatcangowrong it’s very overwhelming to be given so much detail, when other people would never know these things. I would be googling too, I did with this embryo grade.

My DD was a 3AA, and she is my only success, so I’m not sure about other grades sorry. I’m sure there will still be a good chance.

Today has been awful. Really feel like my period is coming, and my mood has been AWFUL! Like severe PMS. I know it hasn’t worked. At least I just have been more dat until OTD.

whatcangowrong · 06/05/2021 23:15

I asked CARE about the embryo grading by email... I probably shouldn't have done, but I did want to make an informed decision as to whether to go for another EC instead or not :-/ In the end, despite the low grade we are giving it a go with low expectations of success. The doctor seems to think age might be on its side. From what I have read, it's less likely to be euploid, but if it is it has an ok-ish chance (lower but not nothing). Fingers crossed I guess.

@BeHereNowx32 sorry that you don't think it has worked... it's not a nice feeling at all, especially as you so much want to hope for the best. You will know the result soon enough and until that try not to worry too much

Herewegoagain83 · 06/05/2021 23:24

@BeHereNowx32 I know that with my first cycle I had completely written it off in tww, I'd even composed my email to the private clinic we were going to go with next, and I felt I'd already accepted the negative result and that was helping me get through.

I really hope your body is just f*ing with you and that you get a lovely surprise- will you poas beforehand?

BuffyFanForever · 07/05/2021 07:51

@whatcangowrong apparently the hatching is a really good sign. We had several transfers of “top grade” blasts all unsuccessful. Then we transferred our last two, not highly graded. Before the transfer it was delayed by about 9 hours because no matter what I did my bladder wouldn’t get full! But because of the time they were out of the freezer they “hatched” . Embryologist said she always had more luck with hatched ones. We got two little guys who are napping right now out of it 😊 . Sending good luck.

BeHereNowx32 · 07/05/2021 08:03

@Herewegoagain83 @whatcangowrong thank you. I’m feeling down for all sorts of reason, and obv the stress of OTD tomorrow. It must be the hormones making things worse too.

I asked DH to pick up a test last night, but he has always been against testing before OTD. (Because the hospital advise against it). I could pick up one today while he is at work. But then I would be left knowing the result by myself. So, I’m not sure.

Herewegoagain83 · 07/05/2021 08:21

Last time I tested in secret without DH, I just needed to be alone to deal with my reaction to the result and he understood that. I think I'll need to do the same this time.

I had insomnia last night so decided to trawl the poas threads on the conception board. Reaffirmed that I should not go and buy any one steps and start testing !! Even though they gave me my shock positive last time.

BeHereNowx32 · 07/05/2021 08:56

@Herewegoagain83 did you have any symptoms before your positive result?

I might go buy a test today. I’m so so emotional today tho. Not sure if it will help or not x

whatcangowrong · 07/05/2021 12:02

Oh god the trauma of whether to buy a test or not, I feel your pain @BeHereNowx32

This last time I was resolute that I wouldn't have them in the house, cracked on day 6 and went to Boots where they were sold out of FRER, so in the end got some delivered next day on Amazon Prime and it was cheaper to buy a pack of 4 so I tested myself to oblivion for the next few days. Don't be like me.

I have one test in the house now and I need to make sure next time I wait and use it at such time as it can be the only test I take.

whatcangowrong · 07/05/2021 12:06

@BuffyFanForever thank you for the encouraging story! That's the kind of thing I need to hear right now, although my last one that didn't work was hatching too :( What will be will be.

BeHereNowx32 · 07/05/2021 12:44

The shop didn’t have any tests 😱

Thank you @whatcangowrong maybe I am best just waiting xx

Herewegoagain83 · 07/05/2021 13:13

I'm a test free house too!

@BeHereNowx32 no I didn't have any symptoms but I never get any anyway, even now despite being pumped full of progesterone etc!

Hayleylou128 · 07/05/2021 13:22

Hi Guys can I just let you know about this FB group (if I'm allowed?) Just because a couple of you have mentioned about weaning your children. Might be because you actually just want to but just in case you're feeling like you have to because your clinics have said so said take a look if you're interested..."breastfeeding mums undergoing fertility treatment" xx

Herewegoagain83 · 07/05/2021 19:05

@Hayleylou128 I shared a group earlier on in the thread, not sure if it's the same one but it had so much useful info on there. You are right in that no one should be made to stop BF by their clinic as it is based on outdated evidence.
Someone I know has done a whole cycle whilst still BF and now pregnant with twins!

Forecast123 · 08/05/2021 09:08

So I have had a bit of a shock this morning.
I have been down regulating for 9 days now and was expecting to get my period on Wednesday but it hasn’t arrived yet. Anyway this morning I woke up with cramps that were very similar to what I had with my last pregnancy. So I decided to do a pregnancy test just to rule it out and it was positive! I have now done three and they are positive.

I’m shocked, happy but also a little bit worried about the effects of the drugs. So am currently waiting to here back from the clinic and Googling like crazy.

BeHereNowx32 · 08/05/2021 10:01

@Forecast123 oh gosh that is a Shocker. Hope the clinic get back to you soon, and all is ok.

I had my blood test and waiting until about 12pm for the result xx

BeHereNowx32 · 08/05/2021 10:01

@Forecast123 and of course congrats! :) x

Forecast123 · 08/05/2021 11:53

Thanks @BeHereNowx32. I have spoken to a nurse and they have booked me in for a scan in 2 weeks and said the buserilin shouldn’t impact the pregnancy!

Fingers crossed for you today!

BeHereNowx32 · 08/05/2021 12:47

I have the pregnancy hormone, but it’s soo low (6). I need to get retested in a week. Can’t see it working if it’s so low? Xx

Forecast123 · 08/05/2021 14:46

Not sure, I’ve never had a blood test. Could it just mean late implantation? It’s the doubling that’s important isn’t it, not the number?!

BeHereNowx32 · 08/05/2021 15:52

@Forecast123 below a 5 is a negative, and I was a 6. Anything over 50 is better and they don’t retest.
I know it’s not going to work, but need to keep taking the meds etc, and see what happens next week x

Forecast123 · 08/05/2021 18:51

Oh ok. It’s horrible to be in limbo isn’t it! I hope the week goes by quickly for you.

Herewegoagain83 · 08/05/2021 19:35

@BeHereNowx32 sorry you haven't got a clear answer either way yet

@Forecast123 wow congratulations!! Fsb is the dream!!

FingersXssd83 · 08/05/2021 21:41

Wow congrats @Forecast123 what a surprise! I was hoping that happened to me when my AF didn't arrive on my down reg meds but no such luck. Here's to a very happy and healthy 9 months ahead for you 😁😁😁

Gah @BeHereNowx32 sounds very stressful. I'm hoping for some great news for you next week 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I started stims yesterday after two weeks on buserelin. When I went for my scan they weren't sure if I'd down regged enough but a blood test confirmed I had. Relieved to get onto the next step. Scan is on Friday. Hoping for some decent follicle growth in the meantime 🥚🥚🥚
