Trying IVF again for baby #2

FingersXssd83 · 05/01/2021 18:44

Took 4 years to have my first baby, including 4 rounds of IVF. She arrived last summer and hoping to get two rounds in this year. I'm breastfeeding atm so will be stopping that next month, trying naturally for a few months to appease DH (it'll never work), and cracking on with a round in before my birthday as I'll be turning 38 this year.

I found IVF a very tortuous slog the first time around. Kind of feels different now that we are a family and trying for a sibling. Have suffered with a bit of PND over be last few months so hoping IVF doesn't set me back but I feel super excited to get going tbh!

Going to contact Access Fertility soon to find out what packages they can offer us.

Be great to hear from ladies in a similar position! x

Hi ladies - can I join? My DS is nearly three and was the result of two rounds of IVF in 2016 (though we didn’t transfer until 2018 - took a break to physically and mentally recover). We’re considering doing another round to try have another baby but having had the scan and consultation last week (we’ve no frosties to use so it’ll be a new round) I’ve suddenly got very cold feet - has this happened to anyone else? I’m suddenly worried about everything, made worse by worrying about the impact it may/may not have on my DS!

@SerendipitySunshine yes I agree re bloating! Def tired and nauseous slightly the last few days in the meds too. Not too bad tho. I know what you mean re comparing but actually I don’t really remember many side effects last time and feel I have had more this time but I wonder if in fact I have just blurred it all out from my memory and perhaps I was so desperate for a baby the first time I just took it all on the chin. That’s not too say I don’t really want a sibling but it does feel different for me this time -but perhaps because it’s early days still really.

mouse1234567 · 08/08/2021 09:53

@Blueskythinker83 I think being apprehensive is to totally understandable -I think we prob all suffer a bit from PTSD from it all and the idea of going back to it is really hard! I know for me I couldn’t think about it and then suddenly a switch flicked and I was able to think about it-so maybe the idea will just take time after your consultation? I agree re thinking about impact on your child too-that’s def in my mind.

I am fortunate to have frozen embryos so I can see how doing a full round is more of an undertaking and more stressful for you to think about. I suppose the question you need to ask yourself is, although it’s hard -would you be ok with the idea of not trying again? Such a hard question to Answer! It’s really hard to put yourself back through something that you know was really hard the first time-all those bad memories come up.

Blueskythinker83 · 08/08/2021 13:01

Thank you! Makes me feel a bit less alone in feeling like this.
It’s ridiculous because I know if we fell naturally that I’d probably be worrying only a fraction of what I am now!
We’re very unlikely to fall naturally though (even though we’ve been trying for over a year) as they discover during IVF 1 that we have a binding issue - as otherwise unexplained and in excellent health!) but I turned 38 a couple of weeks ago and had a moment of its now or never - and now we’re at crunch time to actually do it again I’m suddenly freaking out.

BuffyFanForever · 08/08/2021 14:57

After checking with my endocrinologist my levels are all messed up so looking like I wont be able to have my transfer in sept. Quite disappointed but least we got the 5 frosty embabies from this egg collection as my fertility has taken a nose dive!

Katwb · 08/08/2021 22:15

Hey! Hope you don’t mind me enjoying in! Good luck to you all.
I had a fresh transfer Jan last year which resulted in my son born in Sept. I’ve got 2 frozen, hoping to transfer 1 this month. I started estradiol on Thur, a scan scheduled on the 17th so hopefully the transfer will be soon after that.
I’m so nervous already it’s crazy! I swear in a way I feel worse now as I know what it’s like to be a Mum and would love a brother or sister for my son.

SerendipitySunshine · 10/08/2021 18:33

Welcome @Katwb - sounds like we are all in the same boat - scan for me on Friday, hopefully transfer next week. We just have one frozen embryo, so only real chance of a sibling. It's a bit of a rollercoaster isn't it?

Katwb · 10/08/2021 21:11

@SerendipitySunshine yes it does! Let me know how the scan goes Friday. It’s such a rollercoaster 😬 feeling nervous already & haven’t told any family or friends this time to keep the pressure off.

mouse1234567 · 13/08/2021 11:04

@BuffyFanForever that is frustrating for you -it’s hard when you are all geared up for transfer abs it gets delayed. I had Mild OHSS and polyp on my fresh cycle and then had to delay my transfer which I remember being very annoyed about but actually it wasn’t too long till I got back on all the meds! Hope the time passes quickly. Great news re the Frosties!

@Katwb welcome -that’s exciting it’s not too long till your transfer! Great news! I agree it’s always nerve wracking!

@SerendipitySunshine how did your scan go? Think today?

@Blueskythinker83 how are you feeling about it all now? Know what you mean about crunch time!

@FingersXssd83 how are you feeling?

I got the green light at my scan on Tuesday -my egg collection is scheduled for 4 days time next Tuesday. Started progesterone yest. Making me feel quite tired and a lot of injections and meds! Happy to have a date for transfer. Just want to get there now! Quite busy in the next few days so that’s prob a good distraction. Also trying to plan a busy tww as don’t want to test early really.

SerendipitySunshine · 14/08/2021 21:00

Thanks so much for remembering @mouse1234567 @Katwb - yes, looking OK, so I think we will be going ahead with thawing this week. I started lubion and cyclogest today so it's starting to feel very real now. I'm also super-emotional - crying at every advert!

How are you feeling? Fingers very tightly crossed for us all!

SerendipitySunshine · 19/08/2021 09:33

Going in for FET this morning. Silly question - I've used normal shower gel this morning without thinking. Do I need to have another shower to wash it off before I go?

mouse1234567 · 19/08/2021 10:00

@SerendipitySunshine best of luck! How exciting! I wouldn’t really worry -they give you a clean up Anyway I think. I think I did the same! I am 2dp5dt-transfer went went -although I was super desperate for a wee!!

Really hope yours goes well! I am determined to wait to test! Might test a few days early the weekend after next but don’t want to do it very early. I’m trying to eat super healthily which is fairly boring!!

Hope today goes well!

Blueskythinker83 · 19/08/2021 10:52

@mouse1234567 we’ve decided to go for it! It’s all happening a bit fast as our previous clinic has been able to do all pre-appts and tests in the few days and meds are due to arrive early next week and we’ll start on Friday 27th (if period arrives as expected!)

Katwb · 19/08/2021 11:14

Ah exciting! Hope it went well. I have mine on Tuesday :)

Blueskythinker83 · 19/08/2021 12:20

@Katwb oooh good luck! Is that for your transfer?

SerendipitySunshine · 20/08/2021 16:53

Thanks so much. It went well, if a bit painful. I can't remember last time if the transfer hurt, but this was like strong period pain.

SerendipitySunshine · 23/08/2021 11:57

How are you feeling @mouse1234567 ? Hope you're doing Ok. I'm 4dp6dt and feeling nothing at all. I can't remember how I felt last time but I wish I had some signs now!

mouse1234567 · 23/08/2021 15:16

@Blueskythinker83 that’s great you have decided to go for it. Good luck with the start of meds. Have you taken any yet? Are you downregging?

@SerendipitySunshine congrats on being 4pt. I’m 6 so not many more! I’m struggling waiting to test but I really do want to wait a bit more and not do it too soon. I keep having impulses tho! I have no symptoms but to be honest I hardly felt pregnant through my whole pregnancy last time so I know I wouldn’t. I’m really struggling with an upset tummy tho -I’m on a lot of progesterone and I think it’s that! When do you think you will test? I plan to on sat and hope I won’t before then! May do it fri eve and then can treat myself to a pizza and choc if it’s neg! I will be 11dpt on sat and 10dpt on fri eve so I’m sure a first response would pick it up if I were to be pregnant. But who knows! I certainly don’t feel it now!

SerendipitySunshine · 23/08/2021 15:36

It's hard isn't it @mouse1234567 - I can't remember how I felt last time or when I started to feel symptoms. I remember I did get a tiny bit of implantation bleeding, but I can't remember which day, and now my mind is playing tricks. I'm due to test on Monday. Last time I caved in one day before, so I may do that on Sunday. My tummy is upset too - I'm blaming the progesterone. How much are you on? I'm on lubion and cyclogest, but only one of each a day.

mouse1234567 · 23/08/2021 17:55

@SerendipitySunshine yes the mind def plays tricks! And also -you may not have implantation bleeding this time -so don’t worry if you don’t. I didn’t have with my son.

My clinic are quite progesterone and drugs heavy in general and my progesterone has been an issue before -so I’m on more than I need to be -3 x ultragestan (an oral one), 2 x lubion and 2 x cyclogest. It’s intense!!

Well done holding out with testing! I have a busy day tomorrow -but will be happy as the next day I’m over half way through the tww-my clinic do it for 14 days!!

SerendipitySunshine · 23/08/2021 18:00

Wow! That is a lot of progesterone @mouse1234567 - how are you feeling on it? And 14 days is a long old wait - sounds like they are very thorough.
Thanks for the feedback about no implantation bleeding. That makes me feel more hopeful. It's a rough ride this isn't it?

BuffyFanForever · 23/08/2021 22:00

How’s it going guys? Congrats to those who got to their transfers , all fingers crossed for you! I’m taking my meds and trying to sort thyroid levels out but looking like we might end up having to wait quite a few months...perhaps it’ll be a 2022 try for me but shall wait and see! Good luck all!

SerendipitySunshine · 24/08/2021 15:03

Hope you're ok @BuffyFanForever - it's a marathon isn't it? Fingers crossed for you.

I'm still madly symptom spotting in the 2ww! No real symptoms, just hungry and tired!

mouse1234567 · 24/08/2021 17:42

@SerendipitySunshine it is a rough ride isn’t it! I keep having impulses to test -luckily resisted so far-I really do know no good comes of doing it early for me but it’s hard! I’m out tonight but tomo I have a quieter day so that will be harder! Will try and distract myself with prep for my new job and my toddler! Lots of long walks maybe!

@BuffyFanForever I’m sorry it’s looking like it’s going to take longer for you. The waiting is so frustrating. I don’t know much about thyroid issues but they seem to be quite time consuming to sort out by what I have heard. Hope yours gets sorted quickly.

I am 7dpt-feeling fine and very normal -but as I have said previously I really had very little symptoms in my first pregnancy so I don’t think I would get any really. It’s so hard to wait-but not long till the weekend now when I will test.

SerendipitySunshine · 26/08/2021 12:29

@mouse1234567 - how are you doing? I was tempted to test but haven't as it's not going to make me feel better. Trying to hold out until Sunday!
