Trying IVF again for baby #2

419 replies

FingersXssd83 · 05/01/2021 18:44

Took 4 years to have my first baby, including 4 rounds of IVF. She arrived last summer and hoping to get two rounds in this year. I'm breastfeeding atm so will be stopping that next month, trying naturally for a few months to appease DH (it'll never work), and cracking on with a round in before my birthday as I'll be turning 38 this year.

I found IVF a very tortuous slog the first time around. Kind of feels different now that we are a family and trying for a sibling. Have suffered with a bit of PND over be last few months so hoping IVF doesn't set me back but I feel super excited to get going tbh!

Going to contact Access Fertility soon to find out what packages they can offer us.

Be great to hear from ladies in a similar position! x

Morning everyone I recognise a few names on here - I've name changed a few times myself over the years!

I have 4 month old twins via natural modified IVF at Create and have 2 more embryos frozen (better quality than my twins actually because I specifically requested these 2!)

I can't have children naturally as I lost both tubes to ectopics as well as having 5 miscarriages and it took 5 rounds and 4 transfers to get my twins.

But......I don't feel done! I always wanted 3 children (which I'm very lucky to have as also have a 5 year old) but I feel like I could do 1 more to complete our family. It's hard having lost so many babies to know that I have 2 on a freezer a few miles away and I really want to give them a chance

I read some people asking about mild and natural modified IVF which I've done both if anyone wants to know anything!

I had a c section with my twins (placental abruption and haemorrhage) - how long has your clinics said you have to wake after a c section before doing a transfer? I know in the U.K. a max of 3 c sections is recommended and I've had 2 already

whatcangowrong · 10/05/2021 15:44

So I'm back in the game already - next transfer is scheduled for Sunday. A full 5 days earlier in my cycle than the last one which seems v weird, but on the positive it is scheduled for a Sunday so it seems unlikely that my doctor was previously trying to avoid the weekend. Keeping my hopes in check this time :-/

@BeHereNowx32 keeping fingers crossed for that number to double for you x

@andivfmakes3 i think I posted back at the beginning of this thread but haven't dint since because I'm a bit ahead of everyone here in that I had my (second) FET back in September and I'm now 31 weeks pregnant, but i saw your question and washed to answer you because I had a very similar situation to you - twins from my fresh cycle with a placental abruption, crash caesarean and a massive hemorrhage. My NHS consultant told me to wait at least a year before trying again, and my private clinic agreed and refused to do another transfer until at least a year after the delivery. We ended up having to wait another 5 months because of Covid and our first FET wasn't successful, but tried again with our last frostie and am now very lucky to be due DC3 in July.

Good luck to all of you! ( Some might remember mea CritterTamer from the first time around).

BeHereNowx32 · 10/05/2021 17:04

@whatcangowrong thank you. I definitely think I’m out though. We aren’t sure if we will try again, but will see in a few months.
Wow, that’s fast moving! Good news. All the best when the transfer comes x

andivfmakes3 · 11/05/2021 08:04

@SamoyedFan123

Congratulations! And thanks for replying - I think 18 months between delivery and FET is a good timeline to work to? That way twins would be coming up to 2 1/2 if it worked by the time the due date came around and hopefully if my company brings in better maternity leave of 6 months full pay then it would work out ok with when 30 hours childcare would kick in

(My maternity leave currently is woeful and I don't get any full pay so being the main earner means I have to go back to work full time when the twins are are 20 weeks)

whatcangowrong · 11/05/2021 10:37

@andivfmakes3 - just on your csection question, I had my first FET 9 months post section, now going for another one at 10 months. The advice was originally to wait at least 12 months, but on examination they were happy to go ahead as I had completely healed they said. I think possibly it might also have been in recognition of the fact that the odds of a FET working are not exactly 100% so probably they felt that it was reasonable to start trying.

I toyed with doing another round of stims whilst waiting for c section to heal further, but as you have frosties and 3 children already I doubt that is on your mind! If next FET doesn't work I think I'll feel a bit frustrated not to have done the stims whilst on mat leave (and when 4 months or so younger) :-/

andivfmakes3 · 11/05/2021 11:08

@whatcangowrong

Thanks for your reply! Good luck with your FET!

I do feel like my recovery from this c section - although it was an emergency was better than my first one (my first c section was actually what caused my ectopics as scar tissue damaged my tubes)

I think I've got a lot of convincing of DH to do but then again I do all the night feeds, sleep in the twins room, all the care, and will be paying 99% of the cost of the twins (I'm the much higher earner!) so I can't see it would make any difference to him whether we have 1 baby or 10 🤣

Herewegoagain83 · 11/05/2021 14:51

I'm having a strong compulsion to test, luckily no tests in the house but my finger is hovering over amazon prime with 2 frers waiting patiently in basket where they have been for last week Confused
Tomorrow is 8dp5dt ..... should I/shouldn't I....??

whatcangowrong · 11/05/2021 14:57

Damn Amazon Prime!

Up to you, I probably would at 8d. Maybe once they arrive you could manage to hold off for first morning wee, so that would then be 9d? At that point I think you'd get a reasonable idea :-/ I always prefer to know, but I think all the sensible advice would be to hold off!!!!

andivfmakes3 · 11/05/2021 15:51

@Herewegoagain83

Well my clinic OTD was 9dp5dt so I would test......

Yokey · 11/05/2021 15:52

I got a BFN on 8dp5dt. Faintest positive that evening. Surely there must be people with later bfps?! So I think if you've held off this long, give it a couple of days to be sure.

whatcangowrong · 12/05/2021 11:11

Any updates on any tests, etc?

I have started on progesterone today - annoyingly cyclogest is out of stock everywhere, so on a combo of other pessaries and injections :-( Why is nothing ever predictable? First jab tonight, not looking forward to having to learn a whole new medication.

Herewegoagain83 · 12/05/2021 13:55

I did order tests last night but Mr amazon driver hasn't turned up yet.
Undecided whether test tonight or wait until morning.

@whatcangowrong I'm also on pessaries (utrogestan) and injections (lubion). To be honest I'd rather more injections, the pessaries are icky

Beautiful. Huge congratulations! 🎉 I'm guessing that was worth the wait Grin
whatcangowrong · 13/05/2021 08:20

Yay! Congrats @Herewegoagain83 !!!! Lovely strong line. Hopefully this is a lucky group :-)

BeHereNowx32 · 13/05/2021 09:15

@Herewegoagain83 congrats. That line look amazing. ❤️

I just had my second blood test, so will get the results around lunch time.
I will leave this group for now. Feeling a bit too emotional today.

Not sure if we are trying again yet. All the best for you all. Xx

Herewegoagain83 · 13/05/2021 09:37

All the beat @BeHereNowx32 I hope you just have a slow starter in there xxx

BuffyFanForever · 13/05/2021 10:15

Huge congrats to those who got good news!
We were ready to get started with egg collection etc but were emailed saying we need another consultation with the consultant following my amh and scan tests. They seemed actually better than the last ones I had so not sure what the problem is and they couldn’t give us an appointment till 20th so abit worried. Was told we had to wait at least 9 month after c section for a FET but that’s fine as we have to start all over again with stims and egg collection. We would really like to try and get all that done before my Wife goes back to work in Sept! Maybe 1 transfer in if we have any luck with it all...

andivfmakes3 · 13/05/2021 11:43

@Herewegoagain83

Congratulations great line x

BeHereNowx32 · 13/05/2021 13:48

It was a negative result for me!
Good luck everyone xx

whatcangowrong · 13/05/2021 15:09

Sorry to hear that @BeHereNowx32

Wishing you strength and clarity of thought as you consider what’s next for you.

FingersXssd83 · 13/05/2021 20:09

So very sorry to hear about your negative result @BeHereNowx32 It's such a shitty journey. Hope you get some time to yourself to process everything over the coming weeks. Sending you a big virtual hug.

Congratulations @Herewegoagain83 Is that two pregnancies from two fresh cycles? Incredible result. Wishing you a very health and happy 9 months ahead.

I have my day 8 scan tomorrow. Feeling a bit nervous but will be glad to know how things are going either way. Have my gorgeous baby to come home to and I'm so very grateful for that x

@FingersXssd83 thank you, yes two bpfs from two fresh, I'm so grateful and feel very lucky.
