Trying IVF again for baby #2

FingersXssd83 · 05/01/2021 18:44

Took 4 years to have my first baby, including 4 rounds of IVF. She arrived last summer and hoping to get two rounds in this year. I'm breastfeeding atm so will be stopping that next month, trying naturally for a few months to appease DH (it'll never work), and cracking on with a round in before my birthday as I'll be turning 38 this year.

I found IVF a very tortuous slog the first time around. Kind of feels different now that we are a family and trying for a sibling. Have suffered with a bit of PND over be last few months so hoping IVF doesn't set me back but I feel super excited to get going tbh!

Going to contact Access Fertility soon to find out what packages they can offer us.

Be great to hear from ladies in a similar position! x

Sorry to hear about your result @whatcangowrong It's so tough. I hope the break from constant cycling helps before you go again 💖

How did you get on with your collection @BuffyFanForever Hope you got some good numbers and your embryos are progressing well 🤞🏻

I had my review last week and we're going again in Aug. Switching from long to short protocol (thank god!), doing a double trigger to help release any eggs that may be stuck, and going back to menopur which gave us our highest yield previously so I'm feeling hopeful again.

Just dreading getting back on the IVF train. Aug will be my last full month before my mat leave ends and really done want it to be spoiled by treatment!

Thanks @FingersXssd83. I’m feeling pretty good and enjoying the break although quite anxious that the next time won’t work as then I’ll be basically 6 months “behind” where I wanted to be. Can’t control these things though and just have to be relieved that we at least started a bit earlier than we thought necessary.

Glad you have a plan and good that you are back on short!! I’ll be having another transfer in august too so we can correspond then and see if dates match up. Do you have an idea of when in the month? My transfer will likely be just after mid month In Aug I think. I think I’m ovulating today but missed my window for a scan pre transfer as we just got back from holiday on Sunday.

Annoying to lose your last month of Mat leave but take it from me the work / ivf juggle is not improved by adding childcare to the mix!! Good to get it done while you’re not answerable to anyone else.

@BuffyFanForever how did EC go?

FingersXssd83 · 13/07/2021 15:44

Glad you're feeling good @whatcangowrong

Totally get the feeling behind thing but you're right, we are where we are, and can't change that unfortunately. I'm just grateful to have the funds to be able to try again so quickly, as I know some people aren't so lucky.

Have you bought a package or do you have to pay for each transfer?

I think we'll be transferring 22 Aug, so a very similar time to you. I'm also ovulating atm, so going to try naturally again this month... I keep thinking surely it should happen naturally at some point but with only one tube and endo, I know it'll be hard. I'm clutching at straws 😬

Thanks for the updates @FingersXssd83and @whatcangowrong . Glad to hear you’re both progressing with your plans. We got 21 eggs, 20 fertilised and today will hopefully get the call with how many made it to day 5 and will be frozen. I got ohss again so have had abit of a rough week although not as severely as last time!

BuffyFanForever · 14/07/2021 09:45

21 eggs, 20 fertilised day 1...only 4 made it to 5 day blastocyst...2 more they are waiting till tomorrow to decide on. This is the last go for us so I’m nervous

FingersXssd83 · 14/07/2021 10:51

That's a great number to get to day 5. Congratulations! Fingers crossed the two tomorrow can also be frozen 🤞🏻

How many cycles/transfers have you done previously? Will you transfer next month?

Hope you're feeling a little better after what sounds like a painful week with OHSS 💕

@FingersXssd83 I feel like we are (in)fertility twins with our endo and one tubes. I think we missed the window to try naturally this month, nanny off not sick but COVID pinged and work stress does not make for lots of energy for what feels like very low odds of success. I don’t suppose it would really have helped though. I’ve just realised that we will be away over the right dates in September so I really really hope August works :-/

@BuffyFanForever congrats on your embryos! That’s good numbers and hopefully something might come of one of them. Sorry about the ohss, I felt terrible after this last EC too. Keep drinking lots of water!

BuffyFanForever · 14/07/2021 16:54

Thanks you guys. It’s abit hard to know how to feel with it all isn’t it!
@whatcangowrong yep ALL THE WATER! Felt like I’ve gone swimming 😂

FingersXssd83 · 02/08/2021 18:37

How many did you freeze in the end @BuffyFanForever? Hope it was what you wanted.

Yeah @whatcangowrong, we've definitely had a similar path. How many frosties do you have left? I could only wish for a haul like that!

How are you getting along @Herewegoagain83? Hope all is well with bub!

I'm ready to go again. Have all my meds and just waiting for my period which should be here in the next few days. Got the usual feelings, mix of excitement and fear. Never gets any easier does it 🤞🏻

Hey @FingersXssd83 just came back on to see how others are doing. Have you now started?

I’m a week or so ahead of you which I think we expected. Transfer has just been confirmed for next Friday (13th - oh well!).

I’m doing this transfer through a different doctor as mines away and I’m away next month and don’t want to wait any longer. Hope it is all ok though! Slightly different protocol from usual FET, doesn’t sound as though there’ll be a trigger shot which at least means no false positives I guess!

whatcangowrong · 05/08/2021 15:53

Oh and yeah we have 5 left but I think only 3 remotely good quality. We discussed today that we are doing single transfer this time but then it’s onto double transfers for the remaining 4 until something sticks/ we have to do another round 🤒

mouse1234567 · 05/08/2021 16:11

Hi all -I am trying for baby number two. I have a 14 month old and some Frosties. I started progynova a few days ago (after quite a long wait and lots of annoying baseline scans as my lining took ages to shed!) and I’m hoping to transfer around 16th august. Scan next Tuesday to check the lining -hopefully it’s thick enough and I can get a date for transfer the next week.

Best of luck to those of you that are transferring soon. I can’t quite believe I’m back in all this again already. In some ways I feel I have rushed it a bit but also when you know it might take a while you don’t have so much choice do you.

Hope everyone’s weeks are going ok.

whatcangowrong · 05/08/2021 16:20

Ah hi @mouse1234567 you can be my transfer buddy! My son is 13 months so we are v similar situation! How are you feeling?

mouse1234567 · 05/08/2021 16:31

Hi @whatcangowrong yes -we have a very similar transfer time don’t we! I’m feeling ok thanks. I found the buserelin downreg really hard as got awful headaches that lasted for days on and off and then had to downreg for even longer as my lining was too thick. However now I’m on a lower dose of buserelin and progynova I’m feeling so much more myself!

I’m trying to be healthy but find it so hard and am def not being anywhere near as good with food as I was before the cycle I had my son. Are you finding that hard this time? How are you feeling?

I’m def a mix of excited and scared and getting a bit impatient like last time but also I start a new job in September so if it doesn’t work out it will at least make work a bit easier!! Of course tho -I want it to work! Just trying to prepare myself that it might take a few goes!!

SerendipitySunshine · 05/08/2021 16:51

Can I join you please? Getting ready for our first FET - had one fresh cycle, which resulted in our gorgeous DD. Currently on buserelin and progynova and feeling very tired, bloated and getting hot flushes! Hoping for transfer in a fortnight or so, depending on lining scans etc. Feeling very nervous as this is our only chance for a sibling.

FingersXssd83 · 05/08/2021 19:26

Hello to the new ladies joining this thread. Wishing you the very best of luck with your upcoming cycles.

That's great that you have so many tries with your frosties @whatcangowrong and I don't blame you for not wanting to wait.

Things took a bit of a turn for me this morning. According to my period tracker, I was due to start yesterday but had the shock of my life this morning. I got a bloody BFP!!!

My husband made me do a test as I didn't for one second think I could be pregnant.

I have £2.5k of meds in my fridge ready to go. Obvs it's very early days, just trying to not get too excited!

5 years TTC, 4 IVF cycles, anxiety, depression (the works!) and this has happened. I still don't quite believe it.

mouse1234567 · 06/08/2021 09:07

@FingersXssd83 wow that is such wonderful news -congrats!! I bet you couldn’t believe it! Have you ever had a positive test from a natural pregnancy? Know what you mean about trying not to get too excited -it’s so hard as you always have to be so measured when suffering from infertility-but what amazing news. It’s amazing how these miracles can happen! We only tried one month naturally and now I’m wondering if we should have tried for longer!!

I think perhaps we were on some of the same threads a few years ago while trying for baby no.1-do you have endo?! Maybe I’m not remembering correctly!

Hope everyone is having a good day!

mouse1234567 · 06/08/2021 09:09

@SerendipitySunshine it sounds like we might be at a similar point too! I have been feeling very tired recently -never know if it’s just looking after a little one or the drugs!! How old is your DD?
Have you got one embryo left-since you say it’s your last chance? All the best!

SerendipitySunshine · 06/08/2021 10:21

Hi @mouse1234567 - yes, the drugs seem to have knocked out any remaining energy I have this time. I am so grateful for the whole thing, but it is hard isn't it?
Yes, this is our only frozen embryo, DD is 5, so realistically is our only chance of a sibling. If all goes well I'll be transferring a couple of days after you.
I know this is illogical, but since our first one worked first time, I feel like the odds are against this one - no-one could be lucky enough to have two tries and two successes?!

SerendipitySunshine · 06/08/2021 10:22

Wow @FingersXssd83 that's amazing news! Congratulations!!

mouse1234567 · 06/08/2021 10:36

@SerendipitySunshine yes know what you mean re feeling tired I think I’m always feeling slightly nauseous and hungry too!

I know what you mean -thinking as it happened first time with the last -almost like you have used up all your luck. But really I think the fact it worked last time prob stands you in good stead for the next one. But as you say -you just never know. I had two transfers so I was lucky really as it didn’t take long for me either Ivf wise. The first was a chemical and the second resulting in my baby boy. I really hope your last embryo is a little baby in waiting!

SerendipitySunshine · 06/08/2021 11:11

Thank you so much @mouse1234567 - I think you're right (logically) it's just my silly brain playing tricks. I don't know about you, but I was ok with buserelin at first, but now I've started the progynova I'm feeling the hot flushes!

mouse1234567 · 06/08/2021 11:35

@SerendipitySunshine I have def had some hot flushes too I agree! Although for me being on the progynova I feel better as I had awful headaches on the higher dose of buserelin on it’s own-my head felt like it was going to explode and they wouldn’t go away -so I’m just happy my head feels better!! I think the drugs affect us all differently tho. I didn’t really enjoy the progesterone because it makes me so gassy which is embarrassing!! Hopefully it won’t be too bad this time!

mouse1234567 · 06/08/2021 11:36

Totally understand re your mind playing tricks! Mine does the same!

SerendipitySunshine · 06/08/2021 11:38

Oh the progynova bloating is awful - I feel huge @mouse1234567.

Do you find you are comparing everything to your successful transfer? I can't help but compare everything!
