Trying IVF again for baby #2

FingersXssd83 · 05/01/2021 18:44

Took 4 years to have my first baby, including 4 rounds of IVF. She arrived last summer and hoping to get two rounds in this year. I'm breastfeeding atm so will be stopping that next month, trying naturally for a few months to appease DH (it'll never work), and cracking on with a round in before my birthday as I'll be turning 38 this year.

I found IVF a very tortuous slog the first time around. Kind of feels different now that we are a family and trying for a sibling. Have suffered with a bit of PND over be last few months so hoping IVF doesn't set me back but I feel super excited to get going tbh!

Going to contact Access Fertility soon to find out what packages they can offer us.

Be great to hear from ladies in a similar position! x

Oh @Herewegoagain83 I guess I’m 13dpo and 8dp5dt. Ive never really counted from the o given it’s been entirely synthetic anyway but from transfer it’s def 8 days. I just want to know ASAP if this is a pregnancy to get excited about or not... Confused

FingersXssd83 · 24/05/2021 17:01

That is a definite BFP @whatcangowrong I know you'll feel a bit nervous until OTD but those lines look great.

My understanding is that boys are faster to develop and transferred first hence 57% of IVF births being male.

We have decided to let our two get to day 5 and will transfer one of the other is good enough to freeze (I think, haven't decided about a double transfer yet!).

Gosh all these positives on the thread are making me very hopeful but also very nervous. It took a fair few goes to get our DD, so I'm sure it won't happen first time for us. At least I believe it has the potential to work now though 🤞🏻

Thanks @FingersXssd83 I’m starting to feel it might be real but that doesn’t mean I can rest easy as all you ladies well know! 8 more weeks of stress to go!

Herewegoagain83 · 25/05/2021 13:05

@whatcangowrong sorry yes I meant dpt not dpo 🤦🏼‍♀️
Here's to an easy 8 months for you 👍👍
I'm feeling fine thank, 2 weeks to go until scan which feels forever away!

Good luck with the transfer @FingersXssd83 definitely every reason to be optimistic!

whatcangowrong · 26/05/2021 08:41

Good luck @FingersXssd83 and may you be calm and serene in the 2ww (unlike me) x

Herewegoagain83 · 26/05/2021 13:22

Hope all has gone OK @FingersXssd83 and that it's a happy 2 weeks Pupo for you 🙂

whatcangowrong · 26/05/2021 14:49

Very low HCG result for me, only 19.6 :-( I don’t have a good feeling but I guess just have to wait until second test and see how that is.

FingersXssd83 · 26/05/2021 15:52

Oh I'm so sorry to read that. I don't understand the HCG test @whatcangowrong as I've never had one before. What did your clinic say about it? I really hope the second one goes better. I can imagine how you are feeling today and send you the very the best ❤️

Thank you for both of your wishes. I appreciate it. I had blast transferred today. Embryologist said it looked great. We are waiting until to tomorrow to see if the second one is good enough to freeze. They have us a 30% chance so I'm not expecting it.

I'm very tired so have come to bed for an hours rest and DH is looking after baby. IVF is so exhausting!

They just measure the level in your blood. They say the absolute level isn’t important as long as it doubles in 48 hours so I have to go back on Friday, but I think we are at the very bottom limit of viable. The level was 19 vs almost 300 with my previous pregnancy on the same day, although they do say there is variation between pregnancies. We will see but I think it’s probably back to a full round for me, although we will need to let this situation play out first. So upsetting and frustrating and yet I still have this small glimmer of hope which is probably not helpful. I also feel like my lines were looking too good for that result which makes me wonder if it’s wrong! (It’s obviously not, they are a laboratory)

FingersXssd83 · 26/05/2021 16:12

That sounds very frustrating and difficult @whatcangowrong Friday must feel like an age away for you. I hope you are being looked after and can get a bit of downtime until then. Really hope it works out for you.

Thanks @FingersXssd83. This whole thing is such a rollercoaster. Glad your transfer went well and wishing you lots of luck :-)

FingersXssd83 · 26/05/2021 16:58

Thank you m'dear. It's a horrible rollercoaster isn't it. Every bloody stage of it... Let's hope things work out for us and we both get our wishes very soon 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Herewegoagain83 · 27/05/2021 08:00

The ranges are there for a reason, so fingers crossed you still get good doubling results 🤞

I remember my hcg being quite low first time, I'll see if I can dig out the number from a text or WhatsApp to someone.

FingersXssd83 · 27/05/2021 10:19

Our embryo wasn't good enough quality to freeze 😢 God knows if we'd get any more blasts if we go again with having such few eggs this time around. Anyway, going to plan a lovely day with DD and my mum to try and lift this mood!

@FingersXssd83 in which case the right one is onboard getting all comfy for its 8month stay 😁😁🤞

whatcangowrong · 27/05/2021 16:11

Ah I really hope the one on board comes through for you @FingersXssd83

@Herewegoagain83 I would love to believe there is a chance but the number is sooo low. I’ve finished the internet on this subject and there are so few success stories. Even anything under 100 seems to be a problem and we are at 19. You know when you just know it’s not happening :(

Herewegoagain83 · 27/05/2021 19:25

@whatcangowrong just checked back and mine was 81 on otd, so I realise higher than yours but still deemed unlikely if internet to be believed.

When is next test?

whatcangowrong · 27/05/2021 19:42

Tomorrow. I’ll go in the morning so I can get it over with! Initially I was trying to find hope but really have made peace now. I just hope it’s not ectopic and I get my period again soon so can get on with it. Thanks for checking your levels though, I’ll be reassured if I get a higher low number in future Smile

FingersXssd83 · 27/05/2021 21:09

Thank you ladies! You're correct about the right one being on board 🤞🏻

Best of luck tomorrow @whatcangowrong Glad you have made peace but I'm hoping for a lovely surprise for you 💖

Herewegoagain83 · 28/05/2021 07:30

I would be the same @whatcangowrong, it's much easier to have tried to accept the worst in advance.
Hope you get to hear quickly xx

whatcangowrong · 28/05/2021 22:56

It had gone down to 6 today. So to look on the bright side it looks as though my body is going to do the necessary itself and period will come shortly. I had a mad scramble today procuring drugs so I can roll straight into an ivf round. Thing is we have a quiet June and plans to be away in July so I want to crack on. August feels too far away and July will mark 2 years since our last round. I’ve been prescribed meriofert where before I was on gonal f. Anyone familiar with it? Mixing sounds a pain.

How you getting on @FingersXssd83 ?

whatcangowrong · 28/05/2021 22:59

I know it’s “only” a chemical but does feel like a loss. I haven’t had a mc myself but this week has really been an insight into how it must feel. That sudden feeling that you’re empty when you had subconsciously making future plans Sad

FingersXssd83 · 29/05/2021 06:40

Aww @whatcangowrong I'm really so sorry to read your news. Have been thinking about you and hoping that it had worked out. It's great that you plan to go again and can do it so quickly too. And it isn't 'only' a chemical. It's a loss any way that you look at it. Try to rest up and be kind to yourself if you are feeling low. A chemical, a negative or a shitty cycle all feel like grief. It's such a shitty process. Lots of extra snuggles with your little one today 🤗

I've convinced myself that my transfer is over already and I'm out. Had a few twinges yesterday and felt very tired but since then nothing. Feeling pretty miserable tbh. Haven't tested early before but I'm thinking of doing it at 7dp5dt to put myself out of my misery! Also wondering if my progesterone levels are ok because my clinic puts you on 600mg utrogestan 3 days post transfer but don't check your levels or anything. Is this normal?

OP posts:
Herewegoagain83 · 29/05/2021 10:29

I'm sorry @whatcangowrong but I hope you can focus on the next cycle, great idea to go straight into it. I had had menopur both times and had to mix up 5 vials the first time it's a faff but it's not for long.

@FingersXssd83 I've never had my progesterone levels checked post transfer. I'm on 600mg utrogestan day plus lubion too. It seems excessive especially when they haven't checked that I need that much.
