Trying IVF again for baby #2

Took 4 years to have my first baby, including 4 rounds of IVF. She arrived last summer and hoping to get two rounds in this year. I'm breastfeeding atm so will be stopping that next month, trying naturally for a few months to appease DH (it'll never work), and cracking on with a round in before my birthday as I'll be turning 38 this year.

I found IVF a very tortuous slog the first time around. Kind of feels different now that we are a family and trying for a sibling. Have suffered with a bit of PND over be last few months so hoping IVF doesn't set me back but I feel super excited to get going tbh!

Going to contact Access Fertility soon to find out what packages they can offer us.

I never knew that was a thing either! But sounds like a really sensible plan, when will you get your first embryo update?

I've just booked a scan for next Wednesday 🙂 so 9+6, seemed a happy medium between my 9/10 debate!

Today I guess! Nervous. Apparently with caremaps they don’t usually give the daily updates but I requested to have them anyway.... not sure why really, it’s probably a bit like torturing myself with early testing I just need all the info all the time :-/

We didn't have caremaps, our consultant said there wasn't much point as we weren't expected to get a high number of embryos to need to use it to determine the best.

11 fertilised! Such a relief but trying not to get carried away or excited yet. Just wanted to tell someone (the whole internet) because don’t want to tell anyone in real life in case they don’t go anywhere more from here :-/

I couldn’t get straight answers about Caremaps or why we didn’t have it before or were having it now tbh but I did discover on arrival at the clinic that bizarrely the cost of it includes ICSI which we did need. Odd I thought but sort of explained why I hadn’t been able to get confirm of reason why ICSI wasn’t on our invoice. It’s exhausting having to be so on top of everything all the time!!

We had icsi too, but not the caremaps. Odd and confusing like you say.

How is everyone getting on?

I went ahead with a fresh transfer on Saturday, it was a smaller blastocyst but had a good caremaps score so let’s see. My hormone levels were very high however so I’m trying to keep hopes in check. The crazy testing impulses will no doubt start creeping in from around Thursday!

Other that that we had a good result in that we have 5 others in the freezer 3x day5 and 2x day 6, they are all good but not brilliant for morphology and mixed for caremaps. So obviously very pleased with that and just hope we can have another baby with one of them at some point!

Thinking of you and your scan this week @BeHereNowx32 and wondering how you’re getting on @FingersXssd83. Also @BuffyFanForever are you starting soon or have you started already??

If it was a smaller blast, it probably emphasises the need to not test early I'm afraid, as hard as that will be! And what an amazing result to have so many make it to freeze 👏

Ah thank you for the tip!! I will bear that in mind. We are off on a family holiday on Saturday so I will def test then for an indication. It’s going to be v difficult to hide my not drinking but on the plus side I’ll know by the Monday of the hol either way.

@whatcangowrong hi! Sounds like this cycle is going well so far 🤞 I hope you can relax during your tww, and get that positive result.
My DD was quite a small embryo. ☺️☺️

I don’t have a scan this week. I had a doctors consultation last week. Our clinic isn’t taking on any news referrals. So, will wait and see when they start taking patients on again. And decide how we feel then!

I haven’t followed this thread, so don’t know where everyone is with ivf. But wishing you all the best xx

@whatcangowrong yes scan is Wednesday at 9+6, then first midwife on Friday, all getting a bit real now.
Will need to tell some people soon I think (only parents know at the moment) as it's getting visible now and making me self conscious trying to hide it! Even though I know it's mainly the drugs causing bloat.

Ah @Herewegoagain83 I’m wishing you all the best! The bloat or show hopefully is an excellent sign of lots of healthy growth on the inside too!

Congrats on being PUPO @whatcangowrong! And you have an amazing result with all those frozen embryos. I could only hope to have that many goes from one cycle. Have you got any symptoms so far?

I gave myself a break off MN as my failed cycle took its toll on my mental health and marriage :( Just had a few days away which was lovely and have our review in a few weeks but feeling in a much better place now. I though doing IVF would be easier once you have a baby but it didn’t quite work out that way for me xxx

Hey everyone so pleased for those who’ve had good news. Today was day 2 of gonal f injections, had a scan on Monday and have another Friday. I’m on 350 this time so feeling even dossier than last time! Just wondering how many eggs I’ll get this time and aware we only have this 1 last vial of sperm...but also trying to be chilled and accept how it goes either way. Calming down a little 5 month old who seems to keep sleep screaming at the moment!

Good luck with the stimming @BuffyFanForever I had a much higher dose this time round but didn't actually feel any more symptoms than first time.

@FingersXssd83 don't blame you for taking some time out, it's a complete head fck isn't it 😔

@Herewegoagain83 can I ask wht dose you had? Curious if mine is a lot or not! Third injection done...monitoring scan Friday then I think some different meds. It’s amazing how you completely forget the process!

Negative test this week - gah. I knew this transfer was a bit of a punt as wasn’t the best embryo and hormone levels were crazy. But doesn’t make it much easier!! We are off on holiday next week meaning we’ll miss a transfer in July but tbh I need a break after 3 months of OTDs. Unfortunately my doctor is then away in August but I’m working on a plan for a transfer with another doctor anyway.

Haven’t read all the messages yet but @FingersXssd83 I agree that this is still pretty damn tough.

Currently on a family mini break surrounded by pregnant women ... grrr.

@BuffyFanForever I was on Menopur and dose was 450 which I think is the highest dose they give it at.

@whatcangowrong really sorry to hear that. Isn’t it always the way that when you get bad news there’s pregnant women everywhere!

@BuffyFanForever I’ve been on 450 for both my rounds too. First on gonal f and then on meriofert. I think old birds like me often get the full whack but depending also on the doctors approach too.

Enjoyed lots of wine and even a few (rare) cigarettes on the patio last night though so there are some up sides to not being up the duff in the height of summer.

I was sent for a blood test yesterday after my scan and told egg collection would be Thursday or Friday but to wait for a phone call to tell me about meds before the end of the day. No phone call and I was at work so my other half had to have a mad panic calling and calling to get hold of someone. Turns out they want another scan and more bloods today...it’s all such a money maker for them makes me so cross!

Egg collection scheduled for Friday! Looking like 12 “decent” sized follicles. The twins scheduled to spend the day with Grandma...This feels like it came around quickly!
