Is it too soon?

Hi Is anyone starting IVF in January/February next year?

We had our first failed IVF cycle in October and looking to go for our second cycle but the way my periods are it falls over xmas when they are shut.

So we are starting in Jan :)

So I had the dreaded call. Out of 14 eggs 12 were mature, 9 fertilised. I'm a bit disappointed and very worried..I know that probably sounds greedy but doing pgs and I would be luck to get 1 normal egg out of 3 or 4 at 41...so 9 embryos on day 1...by day 5 I need to have at least 4 left to get 1 normal...what are the chances?? I feel sick.

Sunbird24 · 26/01/2021 11:22

@hopefully21 those are still good numbers, don’t stress yourself!

I found this from invitra.com:
While the success with IVF literally only requires one normal embryo, patient outcomes improve with a reasonable number of eggs retrieved, typically 10-15 mature eggs. Actually, studies have shown that egg quality may be reduced if retrieval results in an excessively high number of eggs. Of the eggs retrieved, approximately 60-80% are mature and of these, about 70-80% will fertilize. Once an embryo divides, it has a 50-60% chance of developing into a day 5 blastocyst which is most optimal for implantation or freezing.

Good Luck everyone xx

hopefully21 · 26/01/2021 11:29

@Sunbird24 thanks! I just have to wait and see..hope for the best. This is the worst part.

Sunbird24 · 26/01/2021 11:38

Oh yes, the wait is awful!

Gardenlady543 · 26/01/2021 12:00

@hopefully21 those are really good rates! I always consider the worst case scenario myself so I can completely relate to your thought process, but that’s a really good result!

All you can do now is wait to let the little embryos do their thing and go through the testing, you’ve done your bit, so try and relax. I have everything crossed for you!

hopefully21 · 26/01/2021 12:38

@Gardenlady543 thanks yep I need to relax and try to be patient. I took today off to rest. Looking forward to going back to work tomorrow so I have a distraction.

Mancbear88 · 26/01/2021 12:47

I’ve started my northisterone today, if everything goes well transfer will be 22nd February, and baby would be due on our 10 year anniversary 🤞🤞

Bells3032 · 26/01/2021 12:57

So back from my day 2 scan now. Basically there's two issues:

  1. I have developed a cyst. They have taken blood test and if its secreting hormones I need to go on birth control for a month before I can start the drugs.
  1. I've gained weight (about 4lbs) and whilst hell do the treatment and create the eggs he won't transfer until I've lost at least 12lbs to show I can lose the weight and maintain a healthy weight.

On the upside there's lots of foliciles so hopefully lots of eggs but don't know if I can't start yet

I haven't stopped crying since

Doremifasol · 26/01/2021 14:59

@hopefully21 I can relate to how you feel as I was really disappointed to find out first of all that we only had 6 eggs from 12 follicles and only 3 fertilised. However they are all three top quality so it does seem your numbers are really good and you do have good chances.🥚🥚🥚 Try to stay positive!!

I had my ET this morning, all well , but was very difficult to say at least. Don't want to scare anyone I have tilted uterus and cervix was no where to be seen too high to reach. At one point they were saying- you might need to come on Thu to do this sedated and I was like - no way, no one gets sedated for this😆 At the last try they managed to get it in! I even have a little photo 😅
Now the wait! I am testing every day to check the progress of triger shot leaving my body. It's still very much there, but it's only been 5 days.

FitzsimmonsMarvel · 26/01/2021 15:35

@Doremifasol slot of people get sedated for embryo transfer - I always have been and I’ve been at 3 different clinics. I don’t see the point in putting myself through pain when I don’t have to plus better chance of success if cervix is relaxed and less messing around with muscles contracting.

If you do have to go again I’d ask for sedation!

hopefully21 · 26/01/2021 15:59

@Doremifasol thanks yes hopefully they are good quality. Sounds like you had a tough transfer but it's done. PUPO! Try to relax and the very best of luck!

Doremifasol · 26/01/2021 16:01

@FitzsimmonsMarvel sorry I was clearly misinformed- whish I knew that! Sedation a must next time if I have to for sure!

MF1981 · 26/01/2021 16:19

@hopefully21 I had 11 mature eggs and 9 fertilised. Then 8 were on target by day 3 and I had 4 blasts frozen - they left one to day 6 but it didn’t improve any so now I’ve got 2 As, a B and a C in the freezer. I’m 39. Whilst I don’t know how many of mine, if any, are normal, hopefully that gives you a little context?

hopefully21 · 26/01/2021 18:49

@MF1981 thanks yes it certainly does. If I got 4 that would be fantastic! There would be a good chance of 1 normal. I am looking forward to getting back to work tomorrow so I have a distraction!

PT8998 · 26/01/2021 19:47

@hopefully21 congrats on your EC and numbers! You still have lots of good eggos going strong! Remember it’s quality over quantity. Even if one makes it, it can still be your blessing ❤️ I have recently just got past that agonising wait from EC to freeze and it’s so tough!

All it takes is one 🥚

kikisparks · 26/01/2021 20:34

@hopefully21 I had 10 fertilised eggs and 4 blastocysts at the end, I’ve read that the drop off rate is on average 30-50% of the day 1 embryos will make to to blastocyst so there’s a good chance of you having 4.

@Bells3032 sorry to hear that. When will you find out if you can start?

@Doremifasol congrats on being PUPO! I tested out the trigger, it was gone by 2 or 3dp5dt.

Bells3032 · 26/01/2021 20:39

@kikisparks I can start. So did my first injection tonight. Can do the retrieval but not the transfer.

I'm looking in the brightside. The longer we leave it the more likely covid will be more under control and my dh can be with me at all appointments. Also my best friend pointed out that I'll know how many eggs I have so can do a second retrieval if not many to keep some for a sibling. Plus I can get the egg genetically tested so greater chance itll work.

jonrik · 26/01/2021 21:05

@hopefully21, 9 fertilised is fantastic. Don't be discouraged, those are great numbers. How did your body cope with EC? Have you been feeling ok?

@Bells3032, I'm sorry you're feeling so down. Great news on the follicles and the fact you get to start treatment. 12lb might seem a lot at once but you have time. One step at a time and steady little wins will get you there.

I've been quite bloated and getting shooting pains in the ovaries today. I spoke to the nurse but apparently it's quite normal as the ovaries are just so full at this stage. Fingers crossed that subsides quickly after EC.

unknownscot · 26/01/2021 21:56

Well I'm finally feeling a bit more alive after EC this morning.
We got 34 eggs 😱 no wonder I feel awful.
Will find out tomorrow how many fertilise!

jonrik · 26/01/2021 22:05

34?!!! That is unbelievable!
Well done, that must have been quite tough for you the last couple of days.

I'm feeling quite shitty tonight, lots of discomfort. Can't wait for tomorrow morning

Fingers crossed you get lots of fertilised eggs! Hope you recover quickly

Tarsette · 27/01/2021 05:56

@Gardenlady543 sorry to hear they have delayed your transfer. That’s rubbish! They should do it on the best day for you not on the day that fits their schedule! But ultimately I’m sure it won’t make too much of a difference. With these medicates cycles they seem to be able to decide when we ovulate etc. without it impacting a potential pregnancy.

@Bells3032 sorry you’re having to wait as well. I know how frustrating it can be when you just want to get on with the whole process...

I’ve had a pretty crap day as well. Went in for my day 5 scan and the lining is only at 4.8mm. I know it’s still really early but on previous cycles where it grew properly it was thicker at this point. My Dr also more or less admitted that if this cycle fails there is not much more I can do. I think I need to start getting ready for the fact I simply won’t have a second child.

summerson · 27/01/2021 06:57

Hi Warriors...

A bit late to the party but can I join? I will try read back (a bit!) and get to know you all a little. IVF round three here, for TTC number 2.

CD4, 3rd day of stims. I'm on 175 units of gonal-f, my first time using this as a stim and lowered amount than before. Lets see.

Fingers crossed!

MF1981 · 27/01/2021 07:45

@unknownscot 34 eggs?! Wow! Well done you! How are you feeling this morning?

Gardenlady543 · 27/01/2021 08:20

@jonrik sorry to hear about the uncomfortableness, I can relate, I felt exactly the same in my fresh cycle! I found lying down the most comfortable and avoided bending etc and limited sitting in the chair. I felt so much better after the EC, is it today for you?! If so good luck!

Well done @unknownscot ! I have everything crossed for you for the updates!!

Thanks for the message and reassurance @Tarsette sorry to hear that the lining isn’t as good this cycle as it has been in the past, but like you say it is still early days. Are you on estradiol? I found that it took a while to get into my system, I knew when it was since I started vomiting after a week. Has your specialist got a cut off that they will be happy to implant with? I know most go with 7mm but I’ve heard of people with less that this and they’ve gone ahead.

Welcome @summerson ! How are you feeling on the meds so far?
