Is it too soon?

Hi Is anyone starting IVF in January/February next year?

We had our first failed IVF cycle in October and looking to go for our second cycle but the way my periods are it falls over xmas when they are shut.

So we are starting in Jan :)

Hi, I has EC on Wednesday passed, 9 follicles 2 eggs, both fertilised, day 3 today and Embriologist called and said 1 is only 3 cells and the other was 5 earlier this morning but turned 6 cells ... has anyone had any success stories from this scenario? 🥚 🥚 🤞🏼🤞🏼

RichmondLady1981 · 23/01/2021 17:24

@hopefully21 that’s an amazing story. Congratulations on your special girl! Thank you so much for sharing that.

@Nlm77. What is the difference between a 6 day and 5 day? I’ve only ever heard of day 3 and day 5 transfers? Sorry for ignorance- new to this. Isn’t it a good sign that embryo has made it to day 6? 🙂

Nlm77 · 23/01/2021 17:28

@RichmondLady1981 sorry it’s the cells I’m meaning... I know they should be 6-10 on day 3 and mine was slow from 5 to 6 cells today... I’m very new to this too... I’m an anxious wreck haha!

RichmondLady1981 · 23/01/2021 17:31

@Nlm77 glad I’m not the only one! 😂

Have no idea on number of cells 😱 everything crossed for you x

Nlm77 · 23/01/2021 20:35

@RichmondLady1981 thank you... you too x

kikisparks · 23/01/2021 20:40

@Doremifasol definitely quality over quantity. Hope you get good news from the embryologist over the next few days. Have you had an anaesthetic before? I get weak, and can’t really walk for a bit after having anaesthetic, the first time in hospital I fainted and the second time I nearly fainted at home.

kikisparks · 23/01/2021 20:42

@Nlm77 I don’t know either sorry, do they only transfer blastocysts at your clinic? I had some embryos that were slow to become blastocysts (all 3 of mine left are day 6s) but I don’t know what they were doing on day 3, my clinic don’t tell us unless they do a day 3 transfer.

Doremifasol · 23/01/2021 21:18

@kikisparks yes I had general anaestetic 3 times in the last 6 years and never felt this weakness, I was seconds away from fainting twice today. I am feeling much better now though but my stomach is cramping a lot and just feels bruised inside :( ah hope it's not all for nothing...Can't wait for the call tomorrow!

Bells3032 · 23/01/2021 21:21

Why does AF never come when you want her and always when you don't. So she arrived in boxing day and clinic wouldn't start me as they were closed for the BH. today due now and it's not f-ing here. Where is she??? I. Just want to start

hopefully21 · 23/01/2021 22:41

.5ml buserlin trigger just complete! Tricky getting it in..sore but it's done. Egg collection Monday morning. I'm hoping best case 14 worst case 10. Fingers crossed!!

PT8998 · 23/01/2021 23:28

@hopefully21 I found the buserelin a stingy one! I only had one as I used it for my trigger, I was quite grateful! 🙈

Sunbird24 · 23/01/2021 23:42

Oh I had buserelin as a daily, got in the habit of touching the tip of the needle to various spots across my belly to see where hurt least before actually committing to it! 🤭

MF1981 · 24/01/2021 08:19

Did my last Buserelin last night thank god after a month of injecting it daily

thetallgirl · 24/01/2021 08:19

Hi, I’m so glad I found this thread! I start my first cycle long protocol on Monday.

@Sunbird24 I’m on daily Buserelin injections too, thanks for the advice!

I’m wondering if anyone can help/reassure me. My meds got delivered on Thursday and I put the ones that need to be refrigerated, Ovaleap cartridges and an Ovitrelle pen, in a mini fridge we have. They’re supposed to be stored between 2-8 degrees, but I realised Saturday that the dial was set to the warmest, which is 10 degrees. Will these meds still be ok? I’ve turned the dial now so they’re at around 4 degrees. I’ve read that both meds should be fine at room temp for up to 30days anyway, but I’m nervous Confused

Any advice/reassurance welcomed!

Tarsette · 24/01/2021 09:11

@thetallgirl I would worry. I’ve been told repeatedly by my doctor that as long as their are stored below 10 degrees they will be fine. And I’ve also read they could actually be stored for 30 days at room temp.

Congrats to all of the ladies who have had egg collections and transfers!

I’m due to start my Gonal F injections tonight at 200 iu and then I get a scan to see how my lining is doing (I take it solely for the purpose of growing my lining). It worked in the past but not on my last cycle which was cancelled so I’m really anxious! I’m taking so many supplements and special foods that my days feel like a long list of things to remember to eat/drink...

Tarsette · 24/01/2021 09:12

@thetallgirl *i wouldn’t worry!

unknownscot · 24/01/2021 09:39
@unknownscot that's great news!! Good luck for the EC.
Did you ask about a possible fresh transfer? I hope you don't mind me asking. X
Hey. Sorry for the late reply.

I didn't ask about fresh transfer actually. I figured it just what and see how many eggs we get and then ask.

X

Doremifasol · 24/01/2021 10:17

So just had a call from the clinic- 3 out of 6 eggs fertilised, and likely to be day 3 transfer. Is that worse than day 5 transfer, I really don't understandConfused

hopefully21 · 24/01/2021 10:49

If an embryo can hang on until day 5 they are supposed to have a better success rate. I have seen lots of success though with day 3 so I wouldn't worry. It's more common to transfer more than 1 embryo on day 3 also.

Doremifasol · 24/01/2021 10:52

I am obviously now googling like mad. This might sound crazy but do clinics in the UK allow for double transfer? I am with ABC. Just thinking we might have better chances with 2x Day 3 embryo.

kikisparks · 24/01/2021 10:57

@Doremifasol I was told by the embryologist at my clinic that when there are less fertilised eggs they can more easily see which is the strongest at day 3 so they don’t need to wait until day 5 to pick the embryo to implant. It took me a while to get my head around what that meant but i think I get it now and a day 3 transfer is not worse.

The only thing is that with a day 5 transfer you know that the embryo was strong enough to make it to blastocyst. With a day 3 transfer you don’t get that information, so whilst it looked strongest on day 3 you don’t know if that would have changed by day 5. However, as long as they will freeze any additional embryos that make it to day 5 or 6 you are not any worse off than someone who had a day 5 transfer. The embryo will do just as well put back in you as it will if it’s left in the culture for longer. They should also be able to give you a grade of the embryo although it’s different than how they grade blastocysts. I’ve heard a lot of success stories with day 3 transfers, good luck!

kikisparks · 24/01/2021 11:00

@Doremifasol my (NHS) clinic will not generally let you put 2 back if you’re under 37, but I think it varies. All clinics have a target to reduce multiple pregnancies though so I think they all have some rules on how many you can have transferred.

Sunbird24 · 24/01/2021 11:40

@Doremifasol I’m 43 and doing this privately - I had one transferred fresh which didn’t develop properly so miscarried, and I’m doing a FET next month with 2. They tend to try and avoid it, but because of my age and the fact I’ve still got 7 blasts and we’ve discussed how I would manage on my own with twins they’re letting me have a go.

Tarsette · 24/01/2021 12:12

@Doremifasol On my first try, I had a day 3 transfer and got pregnant with my beautiful daughter. At the time, I was devastated because I was convinced it was worse than a day 5 but my doctor explained that they do it when you don’t have too many embryos as they have a better chance of survival in your body rather than in a lab. She was definitely right since I now have a darling little girl! On my following 3 tries, I had day 5 blasts transferred and none of them stuck...so day 3 was more successful for me!

Doremifasol · 24/01/2021 12:25

@kikisparks thanks so much, that makes sense now! Smile
