Is it too soon?

Hi Is anyone starting IVF in January/February next year?

We had our first failed IVF cycle in October and looking to go for our second cycle but the way my periods are it falls over xmas when they are shut.

So we are starting in Jan :)

@Gardenlady543 sounds as though your lining is doing all the right things! Fingers crossed for imminent transfer! 🤞🏼

Gardenlady543 · 22/01/2021 10:15

Thanks @PT8998

@Birdladybird that sounds good! I hope everything goes well.

hopefully21 · 22/01/2021 10:15

@jonrik wow 24! That's amazing. I have my scan later today. 2nd scan. Only 2 were between 13-15 last time so fingers crossed.

PT8998 · 22/01/2021 10:21

@Birdladybird 🤞🏼 Lady!

jonrik · 22/01/2021 11:06

Good luck with your second scan @hopefully21! They'll still grow so you'll probably get great news today.
It was my first scan and of the 24 a bit over half were 10-16mm on day 8 of stims (i think, started last Thursday)

kikisparks · 22/01/2021 11:25

@Gardenlady543 the “mass” was picked up by the Early Pregnancy Unit a day or 2 before they confirmed my miscarriage l so think that was in late August or early September, and it was some time in November I went for the scan to check and my ovary was clear.

MF1981 · 22/01/2021 12:52

Good luck @Birdladybird!

Gardenlady543 · 22/01/2021 13:41

Lots of scans booked in for today! @hopeful182 good luck at yours!

I’m sorry to hear that @kikisparks Flowers it sounds like these kind of findings can resolve after a few weeks/ months.

kikisparks · 22/01/2021 14:20

Good luck @Birdladybird!

Gardenlady543 · 22/01/2021 15:34

So my clinic called me and said they discussed my case at their daily meeting and they want another scan on Monday morning when they hope they can check that the lining is at 8mm and they want to increase my dose of estradiol from 6mg a day up to 10mg a day, so hello a lot more nausea Sad

kikisparks · 22/01/2021 16:13

Ah that’s rubbish @Gardenlady543 but hopefully worth it if your lining gets to the optimum level by the scan on Monday.

Gardenlady543 · 22/01/2021 16:30

Yeah @kikisparks my consultant just called me, she just said take the 5 a day in whatever way I can, I think I will just have to try some orally and some vaginally, and cope with the nausea as best as I can.

I also discussed back to back FET cycles she said this wasn’t possible, that the bleed after an unsuccessful transfer is a withdrawal bleed and not a real bleed. I am pretty sure that other people have mentioned back to back cycles. She then said that she likes to have two natural bleeds before another cycle but would allow one for me. So I have no idea about whether to try natural in the future because if it’s cancelled then there will be like 4 months between cycles if it falls on a Sunday and gets cancelled.

She told me I need to be positive but given I have a potential allergy to progesterone, had an early bleed in the last cycle indicating the progesterone was low and now I’m so nauseated on estradiol and have been told to almost double the dose, it’s not going that well!

unknownscot · 22/01/2021 17:32

I'm just off the phone to the clinic. I've to trigger on Sunday evening and have EC on Tuesday morning 🤞🏼✨

Hope everyone else is okay today

X

hopeful182 · 22/01/2021 18:04

@unknownscot that's great news!! Good luck for the EC.
Did you ask about a possible fresh transfer? I hope you don't mind me asking. X

somethingfunny · 22/01/2021 18:19

@Gardenlady543 I think you'd be able to have natural cycles every other month, as the bleed is a regular bleed (no medication, so no withdrawal bleed). I'd guess if yours is cancelled because transfer falls on a Sunday you could just do another natural cycle the following month.
I'm doing a natural FET cycle and my clinic have said to allow one month in between attempts because test day is after day 1 of the next month so doesn't give them enough time to prepare for back to back cycles, also they don't want to take any risk of interfering if the transfer was successful but late to show up on a test.

I had my first scan today too (all looking good for this point in the cycle), and need to phone when I have my LH surge to arrange another scan before transfer

hopefully21 · 22/01/2021 18:35

@unknownscot best of luck with egg collection.

I have to trigger tomorrow night. Egg collection on Monday morning. I have 16 follicles but probably 10 that have a great chance of making it and not sure about the rest. What size do they need to be and how much could they grow between lunch tim today and trigger at 10pm tomorrow. Any ideas anyone?

hopefully21 · 22/01/2021 18:36

@jonrik they are great numbers! Wow! You must be thrilled with that.

hopefully21 · 22/01/2021 18:37

@Birdladybird how did you get on?

Gardenlady543 · 22/01/2021 18:38

@somethingfunny thanks for replying, does the progesterone start before they know if it’s going to be cancelled or not? If it does I’d imagine that’s why my specialist wants that break. I hope you’re right though. How many scans are needed with a natural cycle?

@unknownscot that sounds good! Sounds like it’s all systems go!

somethingfunny · 22/01/2021 19:10

@Gardenlady543 sorry not sure what you mean about progesterone, with the natural cycle there's no medication at all (although I think some people still have a trigger injection if needed - not sure about why). At my clinic they do a scan around day 10 to check the lining and that there's 1 leading follicle, then I phone them up the first day of my LH surge and have a scan 2 days after, with ET being 6 days after the LH surge. You need to be confident you're ovulating regularly and do at least 1 practice month of tracking your LH surge to do a natural cycle. I guess it'll vary by clinic.

Gardenlady543 · 22/01/2021 19:24

@somethingfunny oh that’s interesting, I was under the impression that they time when the frozen embryo is transferred with your natural cycle, but that you have to take progesterone. It would be ideal if that isn’t the case as I reacted to it previously and I’m really worried about it happening again.

IVFat43 · 22/01/2021 19:45

Good lord, I’ve missed 5 pages of updates without any notifications popping up...I wonder why?

Interesting read catching up.. hope you’re all well and getting the positive comments you need.. it seems a few are struggling which I’m sorry to read..😢

I must admit, I’m at a loss with all the acronyms.. where’s the book to learn it all 📖 😂 I must be old!

My personal journey is that I’ll finish Norethisterone tonight with my final tablet, I haven’t any side effects luckily..but all I know is that I’ll wait for a period, to then start Menopur 1200iu each evening (which seems high after reading so many other comments..) I’m on the short cycle..

Can anyone tell me, from day 1, what day will the scans start and when the egg collection is?

How long do you take Menopur?

I feel I need help with how to take and when to take all these meds! 😩😩

jonrik · 22/01/2021 19:47

16 is brilliant @hopefully21! I read somewhere they grow 1.5-2mm a day during stimulation. Of mine about half are 10-16mm and they need to be 18mm she said to me today. If you got some that are a good size already, you'll be absolutely fine I'm sure!

jonrik · 22/01/2021 19:49

@IVFat43, Menopur is apparently about 12 days on average the nurse said to me. Can be a few days more though.

I started Menopur last Thu and had my first scan today so that was 8 days.

Good luck!!

Gardenlady543 · 22/01/2021 19:56

@IVFat43 that happened to me with the lack of updates and I missed everything!

I was on a short protocol, I was prescribed menopur for 12 days, my first scan was day 6 because I have a high AFC (so was at risk of OHSS) but for most ladies they start the scans at day 8. They will tell you when to stop depending on the scans, things moved fast for me and I only need 8 days of it.
