Is it too soon?

Hi Is anyone starting IVF in January/February next year?

We had our first failed IVF cycle in October and looking to go for our second cycle but the way my periods are it falls over xmas when they are shut.

So we are starting in Jan :)

@PT8998 I was told one of my embryos had “chaotic development” but that it settled down and ended up being a B grade day 5 blast that’s currently in the freezer. Maybe that’s what they meant?

Gardenlady543 · 20/01/2021 13:03

@Tarsette ah thankyou, that’s good to know, I suspect my oestrogen levels might drop now I’m having to insert the tiny pill into my vagina! I may end up with a double whammy of sickness! Did you get quite sick on the estradiol too? If so what did the clinic advise?

unknownscot · 20/01/2021 13:10

I had my first stim scan today - over 20 follicles which I'm gutted about because if we get >20 eggs I'll need to have a freeze all.

My first cycle I had 22 eggs! 😢

Would just so rather quality over quantity buuuuut I can't control it so I just need to be as positive as I can!

Back for scan and bloods on Friday

PT8998 · 20/01/2021 13:16

@tarsette numbers are strong so far, I just really hope that they stay that way. I am only two days past collection, so anything could happen at this point! So I’m very nervous!!

@MF1981 it could very well be that? I’m not sure exactly how official the terminology was... so it fits the description! It’s just interesting. Not anything I’ve seen before after many hours of trailing forums and posts here, there and everywhere. It’s just so fascinating! Hopefully it’s nothing detrimental and something that will turn out okay in the end! 🤞🏼

Gardenlady543 · 20/01/2021 13:26

@PT8998 my clinic did a do not disturb thing so I only heard how many had been fertilized and then got the next update on day 5. To be honest I think it was better that way, embryos are so complicated and it’s so easy to research into everything that happens inbetween. You have really good numbers so fingers crossed they keep coming along nicely.

Motherofkittens28 · 20/01/2021 13:28

Afternoon all, drugs arrived today ready to start down regulating next Friday I think. Not looking forward to it after the comments about buserelin! Equally though I just want to make a start now and see what this first cycle brings

PT8998 · 20/01/2021 13:46

@Gardenlady543 I am in the TILT study, so there’s a chance that I am in the embryoscope arm of the study, so they watch a timelapse video and don’t disturb the embryos unlike a conventional incubator where they remove them to check progress etc. I could be wrong, as it’s a blinded RCT, I won’t know! I’m currently sitting in 13 doing great on day 2.

MF1981 · 20/01/2021 14:01

@PT8998 mine were in the embryoscope too which is how they knew the development had been chaotic but then calmed down

MF1981 · 20/01/2021 14:03

@unknownscot I know you must be gutted about having to freeze all - you had the same number last time as I had and it’s really annoying! Out of 22 eggs only half of mind were mature so I’d defo prefer quality over quantity as you say.

@Motherofkittens28 try not to worry - I had barely any side effects on Buserelin so you just never know how you’re going to react

PT8998 · 20/01/2021 14:05

@MF1981 that’s what gave me a bit of a suspicion just because of this one rapidly dividing egg doing it’s own thing. Having said that, it is me merely speculating!!

hopefully21 · 20/01/2021 14:06

Hi all. I had my first scan today. I've taken stims for 8 days. I have 2 follicles at 14/15 mm, 7 at 10/11 mm and 4 between 8/10mm. Is that any good? Back for another scan on Friday. Need to get decent numbers..very worried. Doing pgs..at my age 41 the chance of a normal embryo is 1 in 3...if even.

Tarsette · 20/01/2021 14:24

@Gardenlady543 not too sick, just slight nausea but then nothing once I actually got pregnant even though I continued taking oestrogen until the end of the first trimester. But I had a (natural) chemical pregnancy a couple months back and instantly felt morning sickness so I assumed that was because my body hadn’t had time to gradually get used to having very high doses of oestrogen in it like with the IVF...

Gardenlady543 · 20/01/2021 14:28

@PT8998 ah that’s interesting, mine were in the embryoscope too, they didn’t give me any updates though. My clinic use technology that compares how the embryos grow and move to their past data, whether ones that developed similarly led to a live birth. It assigns each one a score and a percentage chance of a live birth. Having 12 on day 2 is great news :)

@hopeful182 It sounds like you have 13 follicles growing nicely, have the clinic said when your egg collection might be? I think they normally advise the trigger when there are 3 embryos over 17mm, so sounds like a few more days of stims?

Gardenlady543 · 20/01/2021 14:30

@Tarsette that’s good to know. I’ll have to see what happens now, I have the first scan on Friday so may find out more then.

hopefully21 · 20/01/2021 14:38

Thanks for the reply @Gardenlady543 they said egg collection will be next Wednesday. Scan fri and then mon. The nurse said I might need patches? I'm waiting for a phone call...I forgot to ask what kind of patches...I'm not thinking straight.

Agog123 · 20/01/2021 14:56

Thanks all for your kind encouragement! Script arrived and I’ve just driven 1hr30 to an Asda that had a box in store... feel like I can breathe and now won’t feel guilty if this one doesn’t stick as I’ve done all I can.

Love to you all on this journey - for those who are ttc their first baby or their 3rd it’s a rollercoaster xx

Gardenlady543 · 20/01/2021 15:04

@hopeful182 plenty of time for them to grow some more Smile I’m not sure about the patches, I haven’t had patches in my treatment, but maybe others have, you can call up the nurse to clarify, that’s what they’re there for. I think the main thing I was concerned about at the first scan was: am I responding and are there a good amount of follicles. It sounds like you’ve ticked both those boxes and that things are going well.

@Agog123 that’s such good news, so glad you’ve sorted this! Hope you can have some proper relaxation time now!

hopefully21 · 21/01/2021 07:26

@Gardenlady543 thanks! Don't need the patches..yet anyway. Just need to stay positive!

hopefully21 · 21/01/2021 07:27

@Gardenlady543 best of luck tomorrow!

MF1981 · 21/01/2021 10:00

Morning. So does anyone have any tips to increase size of lining?! 🙈 Had my scan this morning and am only at 5.7 when they want me to be over 8. They said they’ll call me this afternoon to probably tell me to up my progynova dose and book in a scan in a few days from now. So gutted as was hoping to transfer middle of next week but I want it to be right so the little embryos have half a chance. It’s also annoying as when I’ve been scanned during a natural cycle or even when I was on stims my lining was 8.5. They did say though that it’s a triple layer lining and that’s good apparently.

hopefully21 · 21/01/2021 11:12

@MF1981 pomegranate juice and raspberry leaf tea are both supposed to help I think.also lots of fluids in general. I did fertility massage before previous successful transfer that helped with lining and implantation. The lady told me to sit with bum against wall and legs up the wall for 10 mins or so every night before transfer to help circulation to the lining. Castoroil pack on tummy helps too but I found it very messy and stressful so only did that once.

hopefully21 · 21/01/2021 11:12

Also yes triple lining is excellent.

Bells3032 · 21/01/2021 11:50

@mf1981 do you know how much pom juice you're meant to drink and from when?

I have a bottle but no idea how much to drink

MF1981 · 21/01/2021 12:03

@Bells3032 no idea! Will order some tonight to arrive tomorrow

kikisparks · 21/01/2021 12:08

@Bells3032 I don’t know either but I’m starting it today (first day of estradiol pills) and going to have a cup a day. Having 2 cups of raspberry leaf tea and 5 Brazil nuts too (I think the nuts might be more for after transfer but figured it can’t hurt!)

@MF1981 sorry to hear that, how stressful for you. I think fertility yoga could be beneficial for the lining too as she always talks about getting oxygen rich blood flowing to the womb? There’s a free online class on tonight if you want to try fertilitynetworkuk.org/events/join-fertility-yoga-jan-feb-21/

As well as caster oil packs I’ve heard a hot water bottle on the tummy might be helpful.

I’ve no idea if any of these things help but might be worth a try.

If all else fails would they try a natural cycle since your lining has been good before?
