Is it too soon?

Hi Is anyone starting IVF in January/February next year?

We had our first failed IVF cycle in October and looking to go for our second cycle but the way my periods are it falls over xmas when they are shut.

So we are starting in Jan :)

@Mancbear88 sorry to hear about your lining issues but it is nice to have someone on here with the same problem as me (as it seems pretty rare!). What is noristorene? I can’t find any references to it online. I tried Ma y things to thicken my lining (oestrogen in different formulations, viagra, etc.) but the only thing that seems to work are stims. They somehow boost my own body’s oestrogen production, which my lining finds easier to absorb that external oestrogen. If all goes to plan, I am aiming to get my lining up to 8mm but the last two times it failed (hence the cancelled cycles) so I’m feeling very apprehensive this time.

kikisparks · 15/01/2021 07:08

@foodiefil I was told by the nurse that a lot of women get headaches on prostap, it’s also a down reg drug so I imagine might have similar symptoms to buserelin? She said just take paracetamol if it happens.

kikisparks · 15/01/2021 07:15

@MF1981 the safety of high dose coq10 hasn’t been confirmed in pregnancy so I stopped that after embryo transfer but I took everything else.

MF1981 · 15/01/2021 08:15

@kikisparks yes I was wondering about the ubiquinol. I assume my pre-conception vits are fine but also take omega 3, 6 and 9, vitamin a and vitamin e so not sure whether to just drop down to the pre-conception multi vits only.

foodiefil · 15/01/2021 08:33

@unknownscot argh god I feel for you. Hope you get some let up soon.

@kikisparks thank you. Yeah I've taken paracetamol etc but it's barely doing anything. And loads of water and 4head. Oh well...

Mancbear88 · 15/01/2021 09:16

@Tarsette that’s because I can’t spell (I blame the autocorrect) norethisterone - it’s just to induce a bleed as otherwise I wouldn’t have one naturally to start the cycle.

Would they transfer on less than 8mm for you?

I’ve had two transfers one at 7mm (after 3 weeks of stims and 42 follicles) and one at 7.5mm (after 2 weeks of all the oestrogen they could throw at me).

The 7mm stuck (although did lose the baby, told that wasn’t the lining).

Tarsette · 15/01/2021 10:55

@Mancbear88 yes they would transfer at 7.5 but prefer to get to 8 if possible. I reckon it doesn’t make a huge difference, especially when you see how imprecise the ultrasound measuring is (I sometimes get uterine contractions which can change the lining measurement by 1 whole mm!). Do you know what caused the issue? For me, it was a copper IUD I had in for about 3 years which apparently caused inflammation to my liking, damaging it permanently...

@MF1981 yes i would drop everything except the prenatal vits after transfer, just to be safe. That’s what I usually do.

IVFat43 · 15/01/2021 11:14

MF1981
Hiya, be careful with Vitamin A, NHS guidelines say to avoid whilst trying or when pregnant as it can be harmful

MF1981 · 15/01/2021 12:05

@IVFat43 ah ok I'll drop the vitamin A - I was taking it for my fresh cycle because the Zita West book said it helped with follicular development and progesterone levels which was relevant for that but not so much for an FET I guess.

Doremifasol · 15/01/2021 13:28

Hi all, nice to be reading all the updates. I just wanted to ask if anyone had similar experience- at my first scan this morning ( after only 2 bemfola injections) the nurse struggled to see one of my ovaries (left) which isn't unusul for me, had many scans and the left one is always tricky. She tried and tried and at the end after a lot of painful poking she found if and said she could only see 3 follicles and 7 on the other one. She said there must be more on the one that she couldn't see well but she didn't want to torture me. God it was so uncomfortable can't imagine what it's like when follicles are much bigger. So anyway I am hoping to have a bit more than 10 follicle all together? Is that greedy?Confused I remember nurse saying 15 would be ideal on my initial consultation.

Sunbird24 · 15/01/2021 14:13

Not greedy at all! We tend to think the more follicles we have the more eggs will be collected, so the more will fertilise, meaning we’ll end up with a higher number of embryos and a greater chance of success. Course we also know it doesn’t always work that way and ‘all it takes is one’... Good luck!

Mrbay · 15/01/2021 14:23

yep @Tarsette! I hate the nerves and the waiting, just waiting and waiting!

so glad I'm not on the burselin this time - horrible drug!

I feel my period is trying to come 7-days early! Plus I don't have my drugs until Monday - eeek!!

PT8998 · 15/01/2021 14:34

Hi all, I am due to have egg collection on Monday, just waiting for a confirmation via phonecall this pm of time etc.

I went for a scan this am, I have lots of big follicles now! I have 18 follicles between 15mm and 20mm. With a lot more between 5mm and 14mm. Ovaries are pretty full to busting (touching in fact). So very much looking forward to egg collection now.

I’m due to have a freeze all... for anyone who has been through the process before, how long is the general wait from collection to FET? This is my first cycle, so I have no clue!

Thanks!

Sophfr17 · 15/01/2021 14:54

Hello,

I would like to join this thread :)

After 6 losses at various stages in the last 20 months, we have started IVF in December (norethisterone). I started therefore the stimulations 3 days ago (menopur 225 + bemfola 225). They counted 12 eggs during my baseline scan, and I am having my 2nd scan tomorrow. We will do batching, 3 cycles likely, and PGS test the frozen embryos that will reach the final stage. And then, they will implant embryos, one by one if needed.

My issues are age (39 years, low AMH) and an antiphospholipid syndrome (blood clotting disease) for which it take heparin (taking it already actually because i am more at risk of developping hormones-related issues due to my blood disease).

I have learned a lot from reading your conversations, thank you already!

Xx

S.

Birdladybird · 15/01/2021 14:54

@Doremifasol don’t be disheartened by not having huge numbers of follicles. On my first round they could only see 7 follicles but I ended up with 10 eggs.

@PT8998 good luck for Monday. Mine is booked for Tuesday morning. Can’t advise on FET but lots of ladies on here more knowledgeable than me!

Had my scan this morning. I have 11 follicles within range and 7 more that might catch up. 2 more nights of my Fertistart injections and then I use my 2 trigger shots on Sunday evening. EC is booked for 7.15 on Tuesday morning. Hoping it will be more successful than last time! This round hasn’t been as stressful for me, maybe because I know what to expect now.

Emmalouise11 · 15/01/2021 14:58

Hey @PT8998 I had my egg collection end of November had a bleed and then started medication on my December period and had my transfer the other day, so quite quickly mine was.

Mancbear88 · 15/01/2021 15:06

@Tarsette they said just bad luck - 1in 4 lose a baby. I think that it was a reduction in progesterone, as I stopped the progesterone at 7 weeks and baby stopped growing at 8 weeks. They said there’s no evidence it’s anything but bad luck, but would advise I take progesterone for longer anyway with a FET.
No idea, there’s nothing wrong on any scans no scarring or anything, just a very thin lining that needs a lot of oestrogen to react!

Oh that’s bad about the IUD. But yep I agree 1mm isn’t much it’s good they would transfer at slightly less, fingers crossed your lining plays ball. I don’t know if it helps (and you might be doing anyway) but I was told pomegranate juice helps.

MF1981 · 15/01/2021 15:22

Hey @PT8998 I had a fresh cycle in November - EC was 19th Nov. Just under two weeks later I had a bleed so 30th November which became my day 1 of the next cycle. I then started down reg for the FET on 20th December (day 21) and am hoping to have my transfer in a couple of weeks. So about 2 and a half months from original EC date.

I know some ladies on here are having non-down reg FET cycles and they are a little quicker than mine and some clinics want a "normal" month before they start the FET process.

Hope that helps.

kikisparks · 15/01/2021 15:23

@PT8998 wow I’m surprised you can move! It’s sounding positive for egg collection though, fingers crossed for you for Monday. Also I’ve read to drink lots of water and eat lots of protein if you’re more at risk of OHSS.

kikisparks · 15/01/2021 15:25

@foodiefil strangely I’ve started to get a headache this afternoon that paracetamol isn’t really helping. I think being stressed about work isn’t helping either, hoping once I can lie on the couch it will feel a bit better.

I must've given you my headache as I'm headache free today! Sorry 😂

kikisparks · 15/01/2021 18:04

@unknownscot that’s ok! It definitely is better now work is over, I’m glad you got a headache free day, I think the symptoms are much more bearable if they’re not all the time and you know they’ll pass!

Gardenlady543 · 15/01/2021 18:11

@PT8998 ah I was wondering how you’d got on this week, I hope you can have a nice relaxing weekend ready for your EC on Monday Smile

PT8998 · 15/01/2021 18:22

@Birdladybird thank you! Likewise with you! Are you excited?? I can’t wait to get it done so I can get numbers! I just hope that we will be lucky to get lots of good quality embryos! 🤞🏼

@Emmalouise11 thanks for the input - it’s always useful to know what others have been though. I do wonder how quickly I’ll get through the collection to FET process! I know it’s another wait that needs to be done (and I’d prefer it) but the wait makes me nervous as I have NO patience whatsoever 😂

@MF1981 I have no idea what type of FET I’ll be doing, I guess it all depends on what happens with my lining post bleed. I have a notoriously rubbish lining, but it’s responsed beautifully to the stims! So I don’t know how they’ll play it. Thanks for the reply - really helpful!

@kikisparks you know what? I was fine! Then Wanda did her thing and now I’ve felt pressure ever since! I am following strict orders of sitting around and doing nothing to avoid risk of ovarian torsion! 😭. I’ll be glad when EC is done! And thank you, I hope it goes smoothly. I drink lots of water anyway, so that shouldn’t be a problem and I’ll be more than happy to eat saltier foods! 😜

@Gardenlady543 ah bless you - thanks! Yeah, since I spoke to you last I’ve been floored with otitis extrerna and media. So I’ve been in agony, deaf and not been able to eat/drink due to impeded swallow and sleep has been a huge battle! Pain has been quite excruciating so I’ve not been at work since Tuesday! ☹️ I do not have any luck with timings and feel so awful about being off work! But it’s also been a (?) blessing as it’s made me slow down all week. So I’m looking forward to (I’m guessing) the prop on Monday, as I am desperate to catch up on some sleep! 😂

Gardenlady543 · 15/01/2021 18:36

@PT8998 how unlucky are you to get such a bad ear infection on top of everything! I hope you’re feeling better now. To be honest I’m glad you’ve had this week off to rest, I was worried about you doing too much physically with such big ovaries. I was so limited before my EC, I felt so much better after it though, I rested for the rest of the day and the pressure feeling was gone by the next day.

Realistically you’re probably looking at a couple of months before they do the transfer. My clinic wanted a post cycle bleed and then another natural bleed which is when I could start FET, I was able to have a fresh transfer but I think people with OHSS risk have had a similar experience. My clinic told me there are three protocols for FET: natural, medicated with downregulation (longer) and medication without downregulation (shorter), so the timing of the transfer will come down to which protocol they want you on.
