Is it too soon?

Hi Is anyone starting IVF in January/February next year?

We had our first failed IVF cycle in October and looking to go for our second cycle but the way my periods are it falls over xmas when they are shut.

So we are starting in Jan :)

Hi. Would it be ok to join this thread please. Im about to start my third and possibly final cycle in a week or so, depending on when AF arrives. Unfortunately the last one didn't work, the transferred embryo didn't stick, and my frozen embryo didn't survive the thaw, which I found a lot harder than the actual transferred one.
Anyway have to be positive don't we. I recognise a few names from other threads I've been on, I hope everyone is doing ok. X

@Sunbird24 yes definitely worst part waiting.... good luck for your next try . Anyone else in their 2WW??

Sunbird24 · 12/01/2021 09:56

Welcome@hopeful182, hope third time is a charm for you!

Bells3032 · 12/01/2021 09:59

Morning everyone. Had a bit of a panicy time last night. Just so worried about all this going right. if my cycle starts we should be starting our very first round next weekend. But was feeling convinced it'll all be delayed as was convinced either something was gonna be wrong or that i was gonna catch Covid as we have just moved and therefore had removal people etc all over our house.

It's been two years since my husband's first SA (we have never TTC as we knew it would like be an issue), two years of medications and waiting for test results to see if IVF would even be a possibility for us. It's been four months since we first saw the IVF clinic to start our first round (we are going privately) and I honestly have no idea what we are sitting around waiting for - I have low AMH and feel like my eggs are dying by the minute.

How do people cope with all this waiting? I just want to get on with things :'-(

Welcome @hopeful182 hopefully third time is the charm for you

kikisparks · 12/01/2021 10:09

Sorry you’re low @walshh091186 the TWW is so tough. Look after yourself, get cozy, have a warm drink, play some music you feel like listening to, are you working from home or is it a day off?

Mancbear88 · 12/01/2021 10:14

@IVFat43 not sure on optimal time, think it’s just ideal that it’s 12 hours apart if you’re taking two doses a day.

Side affects wise everyone’s different but I get really emotional on it, and usually cry several times! But physically I don’t get many symptoms.

MF1981 · 12/01/2021 10:15

All of the waiting in ivf can be so frustrating and I hear you with the worrying that your eggs are slowly just dying off whilst waiting to start treatment. I’m in the middle of an FET and it takes so long! My fresh cycle was so quick that I really wasn’t prepared for this! The only solace I can offer is that any delay and waiting is time to get yourself in tip top condition and as healthy as you can be ready to welcome your little embryo to its new home.

walshh091186 · 12/01/2021 10:26

@kikisparks I'm on annual leave this week. My job is quite stressful specially at moment with covid and I work in NhS so I took this week off so my lil embroyo had best chance... and last time with my fresh cycle I worked most way through and I was really stressed and I went into work on test day ... bad idea... I fell apart at work so this time I said I wasn't going in until after test result day! But Iv cleaned house , Iv watched box sets now don't now what to do with myself? I want to go on my exercise bike but again don't want to over do it and once I'm on bike I know il want to put everything in to it!!! So trying to avoid the strenuous exercise... 6 more days of waiting!

Sunbird24 · 12/01/2021 10:28

They’re talking about IVF/fertility on This Morning right now if anyone’s home in the uk to watch it...

MF1981 · 12/01/2021 10:35

@Sunbird24 what are they saying?

Gardenlady543 · 12/01/2021 10:39

For some reason I stopped getting notifications that people were posting on this board, so I’d thought it had gone really quiet!!

I hope everyone is doing ok. I am due my period today or tomorrow, this was our cycle off between the unsuccessful fresh and the FET, we tried naturally and I managed to convince myself it could have worked, but after several negative pregnancy tests and my temperature dropping, I’ve hit that low. This is why we turned to IVF because that low when it was another month of negative tests and disappointment is so hard. I know I should be positive because as soon as I start my period I can start the meds for FET. I have just lost hope though, I’ve never had a positive pregnancy test and always envisaged my life with children, I’m not sure what I’ll do if it never happens. It doesn’t help that my friend that had started trying at the same time as me and got pregnant within a few months is now due to give birth.

Has anyone else felt this low going into a FET cycle? I just can’t convince myself to be positive, I have really good eggs, my husbands sperm has good numbers, so I think there must be some deeper issue like an implantation problem, but I don’t think anyone will pay attention to that until there are multiple unsuccessful cycles.

Sunbird24 · 12/01/2021 11:18

@MF1981 basically the best thing you can do if you don’t have a diagnosed issue is ensure you’re eating healthily, drinking enough water, and getting 8hrs of sleep every night. Wasn’t anything groundbreaking

kikisparks · 12/01/2021 12:06

@Gardenlady543 I know what you mean about feeling low. My friend that started trying after me is about to have her second baby! It sucks.

I’m up and down all the time, I wouldn’t say I was very down before FET but I was distracted by Christmas and new year. I did have a cry on New Year’s Eve. I’m quite down today though. Do you get PMS? I get it quite badly so just before my period and even during it I can feel very blue and it’s not always possible to be positive. I just try to be kind to myself and let myself be negative if that’s how I feel. If I beat myself up about not being positive I tend to feel worse.

I also often grasp for answers and feel like there must be something more wrong. But the fact is that not all embryos are euploid (genetically normal) and its pretty standard for only 50% to be euploid in under 35s so there’s a fair chance that’s why we haven’t had success yet. It could be an implantation problem, I do always worry about that, but there’s also a good chance it’s not.

Gardenlady543 · 12/01/2021 12:47

@kikisparks ah Thankyou for the message Flowers I’m not sure about PMS to be honest, I had a coil in for 6 years before I started trying and so all I know is how I feel when my period is approaching and I’m sad about not being pregnant, and wow does it make me sad, I sent my husband out shopping and I’ve had to go for a walk to get out of the house because I don’t want to be alone with my own thoughts right now Sad.

I did think about PGT-A testing to reduce the chance of an aneuploid embryo being transplanted, but it would cost over £3000 for my frozen embryos to be tested and would risk damaging them and then not surviving the thaw, so at the moment I am not sure it would be worth doing, but then there is the heartache of it taking longer.

I’m sure I’ll perk up in the next few days, I seem to become optimistic that it could work every cycle, but these few days are just awful Sad

AnnaM1987 · 12/01/2021 15:04

@walshh091186 Hi!!

I am also 6 days post fresh embryo transfer.. zero symptoms and I mean zero.. it is quite difficult week but we must be positive..

Do you have any symptoms?

EasterBunny7 · 12/01/2021 16:16

Hello all. Has anyone had their cycle cancelled this month because of COVID-19? I still haven't quite processed it yet Sad

kikisparks · 12/01/2021 17:22

Further to my earlier post saying I’ve been quite low today, I’ve since been dancing and laughing with my DH at lunchtime and then was in tears just now because my boss asked me to do something and I don’t understand it, I have had to email him back to say so and I feel stupid and annoying because he said he’s really busy Sad I wonder if this is the mood swings I was told I might get whilst down regulating Confused glad I’m working from home today and nobody can see me cry.

kikisparks · 12/01/2021 17:24

@EasterBunny7 I’m so sorry Flowers I had a cycle cancelled due to COVID in March, it was so upsetting, I spoke to the counsellor as I was really struggling. The clinics are all really keen to get back up and running as soon as possible this time though, and with the vaccine starting that must be much quicker than in March, I hope you get to book in again very soon.

kikisparks · 12/01/2021 17:30

@walshh091186 I know it probably sounds trite but going for walks helps me! Maybe find some online pregnancy safe yoga? I’m glad you’ve got the time off, work can be good if it’s a distraction but not if it’s very stressful. This might not help you but during my TWW I kept a diary of my feelings and also made a list of things I’d do if it didn’t work, like hot bath, cups of tea, junk food, massage (still haven’t been able to get that though), proper exercise etc. It’s a shame we can’t treat ourselves in other ways right now like restaurants, cinema, meeting friends etc.

Gardenlady543 · 12/01/2021 17:32

@kikisparks I know what you mean! I’ve had a rubbish day, terribly upset this morning and then very snappy and angry this afternoon. I got pushed over the edge by a work email and was on the phone to my boss who was saying it’s fine and not to worry! I also had an argument with DH about my plans for a rose bush!! He had to hide himself away on the other side of the house and has only just emerged. Where about safe you in your cycle at the moment? Are you having FET with down regulation, I’m due to start FET without downregulation.

Gardenlady543 · 12/01/2021 17:34

@kikisparks that was supposed to say “Where abouts are you in your cycle at the moment? Are you having FET with down regulation, I’m due to start FET without downregulation.”

kikisparks · 12/01/2021 17:53

@Gardenlady543 so sorry you’ve had a rubbish day and you’ve been feeling stressed at work too. I’m sure I used to be more resilient. I have to kind of laugh about the rose bush, sorry! I’m sure the argument wasn’t nice, it’s just a funny subject! We certainly argue over things like this too- we argued at Christmas because DH didn’t want to eat something I’d bought (which he hadn’t asked for and didn’t ever want) haha.

I’m having FET with down regulation (first time as I was short protocol with the fresh cycle), I had the prostap injection last week and go for a scan next week. What does a FET without down reg involve?

Gardenlady543 · 12/01/2021 18:54

@kikisparks oh I’m sure it’s all hormone related! I’m just ready to either cry or get angry right now!!

My protocol says to start Oestradiol 2mg three times a day from the first day of my period. Then it says to start progesterone from day 15 (but I’m sure she said to take it for 6 days before the transfer), they plan the transfer from day 17-20.

My specialist letter discusses how medication FET can include downregulation or no downregulation, I have no idea about the reason for when down regulation is and isn’t needed though.

Mancbear88 · 12/01/2021 20:21

What are peoples thoughts on double or single embryo transfer? We’ve never been given the option before (under 35, AA embryos) but the nurse asked if we wanted to discuss it with the embryologist for next FET as last one failed.

With having a 13 week miscarriage early last year I’m tending towards it not being worth the increased miscarriage risk (also not sure the doctor would sign if off). Just wondering what other people had done.
