Is it too soon?

Hi Is anyone starting IVF in January/February next year?

We had our first failed IVF cycle in October and looking to go for our second cycle but the way my periods are it falls over xmas when they are shut.

So we are starting in Jan :)

Hi Guys

So my clinic called and has decided to postpone my treatment until March.

Bells3032 · 11/01/2021 10:07

@Freya2015 i am so sorry to hear that. which clinic are you with. Really nervous of that happening too with all the headlines!

Mrbay · 11/01/2021 10:18

hi all

I have been a bit busy at home so haven't checked in.

Looks like the group is starting to get active now :)

All I've managed to do it is, regret the weight that I haven't shifted (the healthy eating lasted all of 7-days!) and order my meds.

I saw someone was worried about low AMH, I have a really low AMH in terms of IVF and age - 1.9 I think. I've had 2 egg collections and managed to get 5 eggs from them, all mature and fertilised. One took but didn't hold on past 5 weeks, 5-days. But it is your age that effects the egg quality - I started IVF at 31 and I am now 33.
Cycle 2, I took DHEA and that gave me my worst cycle.

Nerves are starting to kick in, this is our last funded cycle and it really feels like time is running out. I suppose we are fortunate to be able to afford to move to private but the thought of being childless doesn't leave you.

Freya2015 · 11/01/2021 10:32

@Bells3032 tbh i am not very stressed i am very relaxed id rather my treatment be completed than left half way

MF1981 · 11/01/2021 12:01

Sorry to hear that @Freya2015 - I think it’s a real fear for many of us.

Freya2015 · 11/01/2021 12:43

@MF1981 yes that was fear i am glad its over to know what is actually happening

kikisparks · 11/01/2021 12:49

@Freya2015 oh I’m so sorry, my clinic is now cancelling all new treatment too. I’m very lucky to have just started but I had cancelled treatment in March and found that so hard, glad to hear you are not too stressed.

Motherofkittens28 · 11/01/2021 12:57

@Mrbay interesting that DHEA gave you your worst cycle, were you told to take it or did you take it off your own back? My AMH is 5.2 but I'm nearly 39 so I am a bit worried. Just booked our blood tests and a trial of catheter for me for Friday, £350 for the bloods as they aren't covered by the access fertility package we are using, this is an expensive business!

foodiefil · 11/01/2021 13:25

Hi everyone,

Week 1 of buserelin down.

I'm wondering about lifestyle changes any of you have made.

This is my first cycle snd it is male factor infertility.

We are having IVF with ICSI.

Have you all - if you did drink - given up alcohol?

What vitamins do you take?

And any dietary changes?

Hope you're all well. Thank you

MF1981 · 11/01/2021 13:33

Hey @foodiefil we also had icsi. I barely drank all of last year and didn’t drink at all from the end of Sept ready for my cycle at the end of Nov. We both took a load of supplements including ubiquinol, and then pregnacare pre-conception plus extra vitamin a, e and omega supplements for me, wellman max plus extra selenium and l-carnitine for him. Then we just made sure we were eating really healthily, switched to dark chocolate, added extra fish, broccoli and spinach to our diets and cut down on red meat. Hope that helps.

Mrbay · 11/01/2021 14:36

@Motherofkittens28 - I researched it (It Starts with An Egg) and the consultant said I could try it and recommend the dose. But on further research, the reason it is not available to purchase with out a prescription in the UK, it is progesterone so should only be taken where required. Overload of progesterone causing issues in fertility.

@foodiefil - welcome hope you have a smooth cycle. First cycle, I did nothing, no changes only pre-pregnancy supplements, got 3 5-day embryos. One FET took but sadly didn't get past 5 weeks 5 days.
2nd cycle, did everything by the book, got one 5-day but bleed early.
This time, I have reduced supplements and just eating and drinking as normal. If you do want to make changes, they need 3-months before collection to have any effect (that's if they do, no major studies to suggest what helps or hinders)

Good luck!

kikisparks · 11/01/2021 15:15

@foodiefil I cut out alcohol on a consultant at the hospital’s advice 3 years ago, have not touched a drop since Feb 2018. Prior to my fresh cycle I also completely ditched caffeine (drank warm water with a splash of lemon) took coq10, methyl folate, a prenatal and omega 3 and ate a whole foods plant based diet with no processed sugar or gluten, up until a few days into stims when I completely lost my appetite so ate whatever I could manage.

This time round it’s a frozen embryo so I’m not bothering with coq10 but I take the other supplements, I’m eating mostly fresh whole foods but allowing some processed sugar treats, I’ve switched my plastic Tupperware to glass and I’m having a couple of cups of tea a day which I plan to reduce then stop post transfer.

I don’t know if any of it makes any difference but it helps to feel like I’m doing something, and I’m unlikely to regret being teetotal and eating well in the long term even if it doesn’t work.

MF1981 · 11/01/2021 15:34

Ah yes - we also got rid of plastic in the kitchen which I forgot about. I also checked all my cosmetics and stopped wearing perfume. Also cut out caffeine - only one cup of tea a day. I also tried fertility yoga and use the mindful ivf app for meditation during stims.

foodiefil · 11/01/2021 17:30

Thank you.

I've been taking supplements and we have a good diet anyway.

Yoga and meditation is already part of my life so that's been useful!

Some of the supplements you've mentioned I didn't know about so I'll look into them and also I didn't know about plastics 😟

I've been caffeine free for about 5 months.

But I do like a glass of wine on the weekend. For my sins!

foodiefil · 11/01/2021 17:30

@MF1981 why did you stop wearing perfume? This makes me so sad I'm perfume obsessed.

MF1981 · 11/01/2021 17:45

@foodiefil I read that some of the ingredients used in fragrances and perfumes can have an adverse effect on fertility and are toxic to embryos. They tell you not to wear perfume or deodorant when you go to embryo transfer. I don’t know how much difference it makes but I wanted to do everything I could.

foodiefil · 11/01/2021 18:27

@MF1981 ooh ok thank you, that's quite serious really. X

Rani123 · 11/01/2021 18:42

@Freya2015. I know how you feel. Mine was cancelled from the first lockdown last year and still waiting.

Freya2015 · 11/01/2021 19:03

@Rani123 i have been asked to call them back on the 15th February so I can hopefully start for the month of March x

Rani123 · 11/01/2021 19:29

@Freya2015 I've been told to call back this month to hopefully start in Feb . I've been given my goody bag of drugs too so fingers crossed.

Freya2015 · 11/01/2021 20:33

@Rani123 i was given my meds in November but then Christmas closure and now covid

IVFat43 · 11/01/2021 22:16

Hi all,
Well this covid is really stressing me out.. having watched so much media press and reading some posts stating treatment is being postponed, I’ve contacted our clinic.
Ours is going ahead with meds starting Wednesday. They have assured me they are running an essential service and have better practice than last lockdown.. I now suffer FOGO - fear of going out!

Anyhow, I’m starting Norethisterone Wednesday, does anyone know an optimal time to take it each day? Has anyone suffered side effects?

kikisparks · 12/01/2021 07:12

Glad your treatment is going ahead @IVFat43. I had some digestive side effects on norethisterone, nausea and (sorry if TMI) constipation but it wasn’t that bad.

walshh091186 · 12/01/2021 08:48

Hi all,
I'm having low day today I'm 6days post FET today and waiting is killing me.... I'm home alone today and really feeling it.... x

Sunbird24 · 12/01/2021 09:01

Morning @walshh091186 waiting always seems to be the worst but doesn’t it? I should be having a FET next month, this month is my test cycle so poas every morning waiting for my LH surge...
