Is it too soon?

Hi Is anyone starting IVF in January/February next year?

We had our first failed IVF cycle in October and looking to go for our second cycle but the way my periods are it falls over xmas when they are shut.

So we are starting in Jan :)

@Gardenlady543
Thank you for responding😊 we have purchased some sort of embryo monitor.. which is supposed to take regular pictures and provide update but the clinic does not pass the update on. It is what it is, I trust they are doing what they can.

Sunbird24 · 04/01/2021 17:40

@AnnaM1987 I did this with some of mine, got a really cool time-lapse video of the one they transferred fresh so you could see it develop from a single cell with 2 nuclei into a hatching blastocyst. Sadly it didn’t work out but hoping for better results with a frosty or two this time. It was fascinating though!

MF1981 · 04/01/2021 18:12

Well done @jm2020 hope you’re feeling ok and fingers crossed the ohss stays away for you

Gardenlady543 · 04/01/2021 18:26

@AnnaM1987 that will be an embryoscope, my clinic did this with mine to, they used past data to give the embryos a score so they can be confident of the best embryo to transfer. So like you I just got told how many had fertilized and then waited for day 5 for the results. Smile

foodiefil · 04/01/2021 21:06

@Gardenlady543 😔😔😔 I think you should do whatever it is you need to do for you so if that means sending him the email or not looking on social media - do it. Look after yourself it's hard x

Gardenlady543 · 04/01/2021 21:19

Thanks @foodiefil Flowers

I looked into fertility acupuncture today, one of my friends is having it and finds it relaxing, has anyone tried it? There’s a local specialist fertility acupuncture center near me, I’m sure physically it won’t improve chances but I think they focus on talking through things and it helps with stress relief.

DogMamma16 · 04/01/2021 22:35

@AnnaM1987 the fresh cycle didn't work for me no. At the follow up it was a simple response of 'it's down to luck sometimes' I was just unlucky. I started down regulating for a FET in December for an early Feb transfer now. It's really fantastic news that you're pencilled in for Wednesday. That's a great result so far! You have to celebrate every little milestone and step that's getting you closer to that goal of being a mum Daffodil

IVFat43 · 04/01/2021 23:53

Well I popped to Asda and waited for 50 mins to be seen... and then told to return tomorrow as the prescription was too costly for a relief manager to approve.. so I’m back tomorrow at 8am!

However good news is that the bill for my meds will come down from £1,626 to £1,145! ...Shame Asda can’t do the IVF with those cost savings 😏😂

jm2020 · 05/01/2021 10:20

Morning all just had phone call from embryologist and not good news again - out of 16 eggs collectors only 1 was mature enough for fertilisation:( just gotta hope it keeps growing and is good enough to freeze xx

@jm2020 keeping everything crossed for your one

Bells3032 · 05/01/2021 10:32

@jm2020 sorry to hear that. hope this one embaby grows big and strong. My friend literally only had one egg at her 5th retrival...that egg is called Abigail and is now 12 weeks old and very cute! So it can happen!

Fingers crossed and prayers for your little one!

kikisparks · 05/01/2021 10:57

Hi @jm2020 so sorry to hear that :( really hope your wee embryo hangs in there and makes it to freeze.

AnnaM1987 · 05/01/2021 11:09

@DogMamma16 I am really sorry to hear this! Hopefully it will work this time! 🤞🏻

I just received a phone call from clinic confirming that the transfer is going ahead tomorrow and that all 3 embryos are doing ok. They didn’t have any more info for me.. they said I will be told more about the embryos tomorrow when I am at the clinic.

I was literally shaking when the call rang.. hope things won’t change by tomorrow...

AnnaM1987 · 05/01/2021 11:13

@jm2020 i can imagine that you are disappointed but based on what I read it really is down to luck.. people have 10 embryos and the process fails, the others have one embryo and they end up holding little baby in 9 months.. we need to be positive 🤞🏻

DogMamma16 · 05/01/2021 11:26

@AnnaM1987 that's brilliant news. You have enough there holding on that I'm certain you'll make it to transfer.

It's just one of those things. I've had time to grieve the process now and just focused on this round (which now I'm completely the opposite to round 1 and am so pessimistic). I am changing clinics after this FET which I'm looking forward to so see this transfer as just a step to getting to my new clinic. Sounds terribly sad but I'm probably just protecting my heart.

Got anything special planned for your transfer? A nice film to watch after?

Gardenlady543 · 05/01/2021 13:01

@jm2020 fingers crossed the embryos does well over the next few days, try and take your mind off it. You’ve done your bit now.

@AnnaM1987 oh exciting stuff!! You must be chuffed!

Gardenlady543 · 05/01/2021 13:01

@IVFat43 oh that’s annoying about the wait, but worth it for that saving!!

AnnaM1987 · 05/01/2021 13:37

@DogMamma16

It is a true rollacoster! Until now I was extremely pessimistic about the whole thing but that’s my defence mechanism.. prepare for the worse and be surprised if things work out at the end. Now I feel a bit more hopeful but still so scared!

I think that you got really far last time so you only need a bit of luck this time for it all to work. The most important thing is that you are not giving up.. it will happen, you must not loose hope.

I haven’t planned anything yet.. I forgot pretty much everything this lady told me on the phone 😂 Thank God my partner was listening as I even forgot what time I need to be there... so so overwhelming!

I take that you are on long protocol, right ?

IVFat43 · 05/01/2021 15:57

AnnaM1987 I’m just like you by the sounds of it and it did make me laugh how you forget the conversation literally after putting the phone down, I feel terrible keep asking the same questions.. lol 😂 there’s just so much to consider and I’m so conscious that I down balls anything up with dates or getting meds wrong..

I’ve managed to sort my meds out; what a palaver it was today... Asda refused my private prescription at 8am again this morning as it didn’t have a signature so a trip to Birmingham was necessary 🙄...and eventually gone elsewhere and purchased everything for £1,000 with delivery!
I’m chuffed! I’ve saved £626 to use towards the Genetic Testing 🤞🤞xx

DogMamma16 · 05/01/2021 16:23

@AnnaM1987 that's right... long protocol. One of the reasons I want to leave my current clinic. I can't see why I should have to have ten weeks of drugs (which is longer than my fresh cycle) when I have nothing wrong with me and my cycles. It seems excessive and they even confessed to me that they only do it this way for control. I'd rather go somewhere more equipped. Off my soapbox now. Can you tell it's been that one thing I've been really upset about?

HopingForRainbow2021 · 05/01/2021 16:32

Can I join you all? I am hoping to begin my first IVF cycle with ABC in February. I am new to forums but really feel like it would be nice to join a support network :)

Sunbird24 · 05/01/2021 17:24

Welcome @HopingForRainbow2021!

I have to take this month as a test cycle so that they can predict when I’ll ovulate in Feb, for a natural FET then. Disappointed as I’d hoped to do it in Jan, but I guess it is what it is.

Gardenlady543 · 05/01/2021 17:50

Welcome @HopingForRainbow2021

@Sunbird24 I really wanted to do natural FET but my clinic didn’t want to as they shut on sundays and also said access fertility won’t cover it. I have an issue with progesterone and have seen a case study on a lady with a progesterone allergy where the clinic did a natural cycle with hcg to stimulate the corpus lutuem to produce progesterone. So I may have to have a natural cycle similar to that if things go wrong with my medicated FET.

@IVFat43 how irritating, your specialist should have made sure to sign the prescription, that is very bad on their part!

Does anyone know what the difference is between FET with and without downregulation? What’s the purpose of downregulation? My cycle is planned to be without.

MF1981 · 05/01/2021 18:00

@Gardenlady543 I wanted to do a natural FET too but my clinic said they get the best results with medicated cycles. They did say they would support me if I wanted to do natural but we’re really pushing for medicated. I’m in the middle of down regging now - have my scan tomorrow to check all is quiet and I can start adding in the oestrogen for 2 weeks. I’m running out of needles though 🙈. I’m not entirely what the purpose of the down regging is to be honest 🤷‍♀️

Gardenlady543 · 05/01/2021 18:17

Thanks @MF1981 I was so confused when my specialist explained the protocol options, I had so many points that we needed to cover in the appointment that she had to go through it really quickly. It was only when I got the letter from the consultation that I saw the three options for FET were: medicated with downregulation, medicated without downregulation and natural FET.

It was decided that I would go with mediated without downregulation but I have no idea why. It mentions that if a person naturally ovulates during this then it can need to be converted to a natural cycle and cancelled if it falls on a Sunday.
