Is it too soon?

Hi Is anyone starting IVF in January/February next year?

We had our first failed IVF cycle in October and looking to go for our second cycle but the way my periods are it falls over xmas when they are shut.

So we are starting in Jan :)

Hey,

I am completely new here.. started my first IVF (ICSI) in December 2020.. Egg collection took place on Friday.. they managed to collect 10 eggs, 6 mature and only 3 fertilised. We are now waiting to see how the embryos are performing.. we are male infertility factor.. I have never been this anxious.. I don’t know what to think about only 3 eggs fertilising.. I guess it’s pretty low number..

DogMamma16 · 03/01/2021 22:30

@AnnaM1987 it's a brilliant number! It's three more than none so it's not at all over for you just yet. I had ICSI in September and very similar numbers to you. It only takes one good one. Hopefully you get a positive call tomorrow with an update and they line you up for a transfer on Wednesday? I've got everything crossed for you.

foodiefil · 04/01/2021 09:24

Hi, hope it's ok for me to join. Started today with buserelin. First cycle. Fiddly needles. Lost a bit of buserelin at the join of syringe - needle. Dropped out onto my stomach so I assume I did something wrong 🙄

Beaglemum91 · 04/01/2021 09:42

Been away for a while over Christmas, but its been lovely catching up on everyone's stories! Ee did our first injection of Bemfola yesterday! Short protocol so first scan is Wednesday. Spoke to our clinic at New year and they have no plan to close of stop treatment so I'm fairly confident. I'm with ABC thats part of Create Fertility and at the Manchester branch.

kikisparks · 04/01/2021 11:08

Good to catch up on how everyone is doing.

@AnnaM1987 sorry to hear you’re so anxious, I get you, it’s such a stressful time. 3 embryos is a good start, and it only takes one. When do you get an update? At my clinic if one embryo is doing better than the others they’ll transfer it on day 3, if 2 or more are doing about the same they’ll wait until day 5 and pick the best one.

@foodiefil that sounds stressful! I watched videos online of how to do the injections (with my DH who actually did them) or could you call your clinic for advice on how to do it?

@Beaglemum91 that’s exciting that your first scan is Wednesday, good luck for it.

I have prostap appointment on Thursday, then I should have a bleed and go back in for a scan on 21st Jan. My understanding is that if my lining plays ball and all goes to plan we could be doing the frozen embryo transfer about 2 weeks after that. It seems so long compared to a short protocol fresh cycle but I’m just so glad to be getting started!

MF1981 · 04/01/2021 11:46

Hey to all the newbies! Glad to have you on the journey!

I’m just over 2 weeks into my Buserelin injections now - scan to check down reg being successful is on Wednesday morning this week. If all ok then I will start adding in progynova tablets for 2 weeks or so before another scan to check the lining. I did short protocol originally so this feels like it’s taking ages! Also I’ve not really had any side effects from the Buserelin - hope it’s working! Anyone else not have side effects?

Gardenlady543 · 04/01/2021 11:59

@foodiefil welcome, I wouldn’t worry too much about a small drop, I’m sure you’ll get better with practice. My clinic had videos so if you have access to them at your clinic have a watch and I’m sure you’ll perfect the technique.

@AnnaM1987 Fingers crossed these three do well, theres nothing you can do now while waiting, so try to relax and take your mind off it :)

I just spoke with my manager at work, the covid vaccine came up, he knows I’m having fertility treatment and the issues I’m having in it and I mentioned how I won’t be able to have the vaccine which could affect with work location stuff (I would have it but this is a UK decision for pregnant women and those who plan to get pregnant). He then brought up how his daughter in law (that got married at the same time as me) is 12 weeks pregnant and planning to have it, she lives on another continent, so completely irrelevant. It has put me in such a bad mood! When he said it I just said “oh well good for her”.

I have just got some info about my FET I’m having medicated without down regulation, I’m expecting my period early next week.

foodiefil · 04/01/2021 12:10

@Gardenlady543 that's really frustrating. What kind of company do you work for? Big enough to have a HR dept? Hope your boss doesn't push that anymore

Gardenlady543 · 04/01/2021 12:40

@foodiefil thankyou for the kind words, I work at a medical company lol, both me and my boss are doctors. I’m sure he didn’t mean anything by it, but I wonder if he realizes how upsetting these pregnancy announcements are and I’m now uming and ahing about whether to send him an email, so I don’t end up getting pregnancy updates.

It’s got me in tears and I’m not able to focus and get anything done now, so I really could have done without it. I’ve not been able to have any contact with my best friend for 7 months because she got pregnant, I understand that others are better at dealing with this stuff, but I’m not one of them, I can’t handle it, so stay off social media and avoid it all Sad

Hopeforsuccess · 04/01/2021 13:26

@Gardenlady543 i am so sorry for how you feel and how is the situation at work! I completely get that pregnancy announcements are very very difficult!

Regarding the vaccine there is a latest update from MHRA saying that the vaccine is no longer contra indicated in pregnancy put you should discuss risks/ benefits with/without with your doctor and decide.

Additional updates relating to use of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine
The CHM has also reviewed further data for the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccinee_ as it has become available and has recommended the following changes:
• Pregnancy and women who are breastfeeding - the vaccine should only be considered for use in pregnancy when the potential benefits outweigh any potential risks for the mother and baby. Women should discuss the benefits and risks of having the vaccine with their healthcare professional and reach a joint decision based on individual circumstances. Women who are breastfeeding can also be given the vaccine. This advice is in line with pregnancy and breastfeeding advice for the Oxford University/AstraZeneca vaccine

Gardenlady543 · 04/01/2021 13:43

Ah thankyou @Hopeforsuccess I hadn’t seen the update, I expect it won’t change things for most people, just those who are vulnerable and a bit of uncertainty for healthcare workers who are pregnant/ planning a pregnancy. I expect things might continue to change as the roll out becomes more widespread as more data would have become available.

Hopeforsuccess · 04/01/2021 13:56

@Gardenlady543 yes indeed! I am also a doctor working in the hospital and having a fet mid of February so i am thinking of getting it now as risk of covid out weights risk of vaccine. But again this is a very personal decision.

Gardenlady543 · 04/01/2021 14:13

@Hopeforsuccess Ah another doctor! I think it’s become more difficult as the time between the two doses has changed from 3 weeks to 3 months. One of my friends who is a HCW has managed to get his second dose the other day with a 3 week gap. I wonder if there is scope for people in our situation to do the same. That would seem to avoid potential issues while not delaying treatment. You could always enquire with your trust?

Luckily I can do my specialty from home, some people are in clinic and I think numbers will increase when people get the vaccine. I’ll have to see how this plays out for me.

Hopeforsuccess · 04/01/2021 14:47

@Gardenlady543 yes i know about the 3
Months delay. Some people got the second dose in 21 days and some got a notification for 3 months in my hospital so i am not sure how it works. I dont think they know either. I will try to get it tmr and see how it will work out.

jm2020 · 04/01/2021 16:03

Hi Ladies - egg collection went ok - They got 16 eggs!! Over the moon with that as they only got 10 last cycle and only expected 8-10 this time aswell! Now is the nerve racking time to see how many are mature and fertilize :(

How are you all doing? xx

IVFat43 · 04/01/2021 16:13

Wow well done jm2020 !

I’ve tried to get through to clinic all day to finalise the prescription, I’m heading to Asda later to get it ordered! First day back and I think they’re overwhelmed with calls etc.. 😞

Think I’ll save £250 from the looks of it.. 😅

AnnaM1987 · 04/01/2021 16:44

Thank you for responding.. I was called on Saturday re fertilisation and they told me that I will hear from the clinic on Tuesday to confirm the transfer time which has been pencilled in for Wednesday.. My clinic does not provide regular updates so I really don’t know how the embryos are performing but I am expecting a call tomorrow. They did not mention anything about day 3 transfer option.. I don’t know what to think. Do you mind me asking if your ivf was successful that time?

AnnaM1987 · 04/01/2021 16:46

DogMamma16 Thank you!

AnnaM1987 · 04/01/2021 16:48

jm2020 Wow that’s great! Fingers crossed it all goes well. It is a great number..

I am doing well but it’s also a waiting game for me.. 🤞🏻

Emmalouise11 · 04/01/2021 16:51

@jm2020 ah no wonder you’re over the moon, 16 eggs! Hope you’re not too sore.

I’m a bit nervous now as Scotland has gone into full lockdown, hope the clinic stays open. My treatment got cancelled the first time due to covid and not sure I can deal with that again.

Gardenlady543 · 04/01/2021 17:18

Nice one @jm2020 let us know your updates with them and try to relax and recover now!

@AnnaM1987 my clinic operates a “do not disturb” policy, to avoid the embryos getting disrupted by being moved in and out of the incubator. I’m not sure that there’s much use with updates inbetween fertilization and day 5, since what will be will be, best to see what’s happening on day 5! Fingers crossed these are little fighters! 🤞

AnnaM1987 · 04/01/2021 17:19

kikisparks I really hope the clinic won’t close due to this Covid nightmare.. I was told to self isolate until Wednesday when they plan the transfer if things go well.. they also now have the test that provides results in 30min so I was told that the likelihood of clinics closing in my area is low. Hope same applies to Scotland since the new test has been introduced.
