Is it too soon?

Hi Is anyone starting IVF in January/February next year?

We had our first failed IVF cycle in October and looking to go for our second cycle but the way my periods are it falls over xmas when they are shut.

So we are starting in Jan :)

@Freya2015 I’m at the homerton hospital in London it says it on their website. Hopefully you will be alright.

Freya2015 · 02/01/2021 13:07

@Emmalouise11 I really hope so because i dont think i will be able to handle it if it gets cancelled I have waited so long

Plus everyone around me is keep announcing pregnancy 💔

Mummytosaoirse · 02/01/2021 13:55

Thank you xx believe me it’s just as nerve racking the second time round I think I’m more anxious this time round as so much has changed with the treatment protocol since my last round 7 years ago xx

Dogmum1992 · 02/01/2021 15:36

I can imagine! But 🤞🏼for you this time as well!

Does anyone know how long you typically take menopure for before the trigger shot and egg collection? They’ve told me I’ll have to go for scans every other day but not sure over what period of time x

Alexm06 · 02/01/2021 16:16

@Dogmum1992 I believe I I took it for about 11 maybe 12 days before trigger, did the last one the night before and still had to do fryemadel in the morning still. I think I injected a couple of days longer then usual because my eggs were not growing as quick but were still on track but yeah I had scans every 3-4 days to track so yeah it depends on how quick the eggs grow with it I believe x

Bells3032 · 02/01/2021 19:23

@dogmum1992 it will depend on your protocol. Mine is 9 days I think before trigger and then two days before egg collection. As in the pic. The blank is when you do it

Thanks @Bells3032 and @Alexm06, sounds like between a week and two weeks then depending on the protocol and how my body responds. Hopefully I can get the exact timetable from the clinic on Thursday.

@jm2020 Good luck for everything on Monday! X

JuJu234 · 02/01/2021 20:54

I have my first appointment on Tuesday and my BMI is 30.4. I’m trying my best to lose two pounds by then and then i will be ok. I’ve lost six stones and am so close. I will be gutted if things don’t go ahead x

Gardenlady543 · 02/01/2021 20:54

@jm2020 oh wow a big day coming on Monday then! I hope you get some good rest and have some time to relax between and that it goes well.

I’m sorry to hear about the risk of OHSS but I’m sure it’s the right decision to freeze all, the condition can be so awful. Plus you can put some plans in place to do some things you like doing, indulge in some treat food etc!

JuJu234 · 02/01/2021 20:55

What happens at your first appointment? How long is it between appointments?

Freya2015 · 02/01/2021 22:06

@JuJu234 I hope all goes well for you. i keep gaining too and its stressing me out now

JuJu234 · 02/01/2021 22:11

I know me too... it awful having all Xmas goodies around me and I can’t eat them!! After my appointment I’m going to eat a mince pie lol then get back on it so I will definitely be ok for my second appointment 🙈 x

Hi All

Sorry been a bit quite as nothing to update as yet.

I must call the clinic on Monday as I'll be due to start my period on the 21st Jan and I need to get my meds - that's if they don't cancel everything due to covid and Boris raising us all to tier 3000, where we'll live underwater (think Year 3000 - Busted, gotta laugh at how it is all being managed!).

I'm on short protocol too @Bells3032 so I think we'll be stimming at the same time - exciting!

Bells3032 · 02/01/2021 23:43

@Mrbay ooh that's exciting. if both on time then start the same weekend

Sunbird24 · 03/01/2021 06:44

Hi, can I join you all? I had my first IVF cycle in September/October, which produced 8 blasts after 5 days, with 1 transferred fresh. Got a lovely BFP but at the viability scan around 8 weeks it was a MMC. Planning on a FET with 2 this time, on a natural cycle, AF has just arrived so should be due to ovulate around 21 Jan. Will be calling the clinic tomorrow to check if they’re still going ahead, we’re in tier 3.

IVFat43 · 03/01/2021 14:40

Thank you for the Asda Med tip!
I’ve just called them and they’ve told me to go in store to get everything ordered which will take 3-5 days, ready for 13th Jan when I start meds... 🙂

Gardenlady543 · 03/01/2021 15:39

Welcome @Sunbird24 I’m due to try a FET after an unsuccessful fresh transfer too. I’m due to get my period and start the meds in about a week and a half.

@IVFat43 that’s great to hear! I think it’s so easy to get swept up in this process and end up paying for things without considering other cheaper options. Asda pharmacy staff were really nice and told me they hope I keep coming back to get my meds there, make sure they charge you cost price, one of the staff members didn’t understand that and asked me to pay more when I went to pick up, the pharmacist that dealt with it came in and explained it to her though and they gave me a £5 voucher for the issue. Also remember you’ll need to order the syringes, needles and sharps bin, I think Asda could order that in for you though, so make sure you ask!

IVFat43 · 03/01/2021 16:22

Thank you, that’s great to know.. I’ll post tomorrow evening if I experience any problems.. there’s so much to think about and I’m still not sure what to do yet regards some options available. I don’t know whether to pay for ICSI to get a better chance (my husband is fine) or whether to pay Pre-Implantation Genetic Screening to avoid miscarriage.. it’s overwhelming..

elsiegoggings · 03/01/2021 16:50

Due to get my period on 15th and then start drugs on day 21 for FET. Still wondering whether to delay it for a month due to lockdowns etc. Not been able to get in touch with clinic over New Year but hopefully will tomorrow. Pros and cons to both. I've delayed it for a year now due to one thing or another and even I am thinking I just need to get on with it! I'm 41 this year!

Gardenlady543 · 03/01/2021 17:48

@IVFat43 Me and DH felt similar about the ICSI or not decision, his numbers looked really good but he has grade 2 agglutination so we decided that we’d see what the sample on the day looked like and discuss with the embryologist who would decide there and then if ICSI was needed or not, she said the sample was good and that the lab equipment improves the sample further, so she said we didn’t need the ICSI. She then called me back to say she wanted to reassure me that the sperm were looking good swimming about with the eggs. I shouldn’t have worried as we ended up with 100% fertilization!! There is a thought that it can be better to avoid ICSI if possible to allow some natural selection.

I think another consideration is if you’re likely to get a small number of eggs as it could improve the yield of blasts as much as possible, some people do a split and do ICSI for some and IVF for the others.

Gardenlady543 · 03/01/2021 17:54

@IVFat43 re: PGT-A you mentioned you’re 42, so I personally would get it if I were you, my specialist told me that at age 35 the chance of aneuploidy (which would be unlikely to implant/result in a miscarriage if it does) is 30%. At over 40 she said it’s 70%. The hope is that those are detected so that you don’t have the heartache of a cycle that’s destined to be unsuccessful. It takes time though so you might have to freeze all to wait for the results to come back.

Your specialist should have sent you some information, have a read through and if you need to ask more questions, ask your clinic to arrange for the specialist to call you to discuss things further.

IVFat43 · 03/01/2021 18:15

They have sent me some information but it’s still a difficult decision as I’ve read that the freezing process has in cases caused quality issues for it then to fail, but also the delay which I’m advised could add another 5wks to the protocol.. decisions, decisions... I really want someone to tell me what is for the best.. we’re paying privately so it’s a one time opportunity

Gardenlady543 · 03/01/2021 20:01

@IVFat43 could they do a fresh transfer and do PGT-A on any others because those will need to be frozen anyway and it won’t delay this transfer. Then if this transfer doesn’t work you will know more about any other embryos?

IVFat43 · 03/01/2021 20:04

That sounds like a good idea, I’ll speak with the clinic tomorrow.. it all depends how many I get.. I should know towards the end of the month.. thank you 😊
