IVF Dec 2020-Jan 2021-anyone joining me?

Hi,
After 2 years TTC #1 we are now eventually on the IVF bus! Should have started in June but Covid put a stop to that and after lots of back/forth with our NHS clinic we've got our treatment planning appointment on Friday and will be on the long protocol so probably starting mid- end of December!
Would love to have some ladies join me!
I've been creeping on other IVF threads but haven't been able to fully take part.

@Emmalouise11 are you Aberdonoian by any chance? When I lived up there 'yous' was such a common phrase 😄

Does progynova make anyone emotional? Having a shitty night, managed to have a row with dp, had a pregnancy announcement from a friend today and it's made me sad but feel terrible for feeling sad I'm all over the place and wondering if the tablets aren't helping!

Emmalouise11 · 19/01/2021 21:47

@Kiza 😂 no I’m not lol born and raised in
east London x

@Janefx40 Hope your urology appointment goes well :). Thank you, I was a bit worried about it only being 5 cells. Seems so crazy that something 5 cells big expelled into a uterus in a blob of media could possibly become a foetus! Test day is next Friday which seems ages away. Feeling much more myself today and cramps have all subsided, honestly I'd be shocked if it works but we've at least got a plan to try again in April.

@MF1981 hope the scan goes well tomorrow, it's nice to have some dates and a plan isn't it :)

@Emmalouise11 sounds positive, a friend of mind had a positive 4dp5dt and has a lovely little boy. Fingers crossed for you xx

MF1981 · 20/01/2021 11:29

Thank you for remembering @MrsMeow2019 Smile. I just want to know when transfer is now - getting excited and nervous. Wishing you lots of luck and please share any tips for getting to test day without going stir crazy!

Janefx40 · 20/01/2021 12:34

Thanks @MrsMeow2019

Urologist was amazing but it's not good news. We basically have 6% viable sperm so there's no point going ahead with a cycle unless we can improve it. When you are younger your eggs can correct damage but that's not possible at my age.

DP has to have more tests but unless he can find a cause then we are probably at game over. Either way it will take 2-3 months to see an improvement so no progress for now

@MF1981 good luck with the scan

MF1981 · 20/01/2021 12:51

@Janefx40 how are you feeling about that news?

Janefx40 · 20/01/2021 15:16

@MF1981 I feel drained and tired. The urologist was so kind but also very clear. My biggest fear is always that DP won't be willing to keep trying. I really want to try for number 2 - but the consultant was clear that trying now would end in failure or miscarriage. Onto the next round of tests. Let's hope we find a cause he can treat.

I know how lucky I am to have my daughter and I realise that many of you aren't in that position so I must seem greedy. But I just feel this desperate obligation to give her a sibling if I possibly can.

I would happily consider donor eggs but given that we have a sperm issue, I'm not sure that is really a possibility.

Ugh. Today is a bad day but there will be better ones x

starkid · 20/01/2021 16:34

@kiza - thinking of you today xx

elsaesmeralda · 20/01/2021 16:45

@Janefx40 sorry you've not had better news today

MF1981 · 20/01/2021 17:11

@Janefx40 fingers crossed for a cause that can be treated. Give yourself some time to process xx

Kiza · 20/01/2021 19:01

@Janefx40 that's such shitty news for you, how has your partner responded to the news? Have you considered sperm donar or does that conversation feel too far off?

Egg collection today was only 1 egg from the 2 follicles that were growing. We had so desperately hoped we would get eggs from both follies, the doctor said he tried 'rooting around' to no avail. Awaiting the call tomorrow from the embryologist to see if it fertilised with ICSI 🤞🏼🤞🏼 it was not the best experience and I understand the nhs are battling Covid too but they forgot to do the mock transfer, we went in an hour later than planned, we were told we needed another Covid swab, then decided we don't. Then on the drive home a call to say you need to come back for another Covid swab, amongst a few other shambles such as having to walk through the waiting Room in my gown 🤦🏼‍♀️

@Kiza sorry to hear you only got the one egg, got everything crossed for you for good news 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Lindyloolou · 20/01/2021 19:37

@Janefx40 Not sure which urologist you’re with but Jonathan Ramsay is the best and suggested direct sperm retrieval from my OH as his morphology was so bad. We had some of this used for our ivf cycle and some tested and it was 100% top quality - couldn’t believe the difference in results. Might be worth asking him about this? It’s relatively new and not had enough research to warrant it as a ‘given’ in clinics but if you have nothing to lose in trying... don’t lose hope just yet.

Good to hear so many of you are progressing and keeping an eye on those starting out. The emotions are crazy. Talking of which, I was convinced my symptoms were slowly going and anticipated bad news for my 7 week scan today but I’m pleased to say we saw a heartbeat and measuring perfectly. We have had 5 previous pregnancies - all ended at that first scan with an ‘I’m sorry’ so this is a huge step for us. Still a very along way to go yet but a little more relieved than I have been. I have had several melt downs these past few days!

Wishing everyone the best of luck. X

starkid · 20/01/2021 20:12

@Kiza - sorry to hear there wasn't two eggs :( fingers crossed it's a lucky egg!!
Yeah the day surgery unit my clinic usually use is being used as a ward from this week due to needs, so I'm in a different part of the hospital and was told I'll have to walk through 'amber covid alert' areas. Also it's at 12.45pm and not allowed to eat all morning before so hoping for no delays as i'll be eating my mask by then haha

@Lindyloolou - ahh amazing news that you've progressed further than before with todays scan! Fingers crossed for you too :) :)

Bonster37 · 20/01/2021 20:12

@Janefx40 I was reading through thread as I’m getting ready to do an ICSI cycle too for the same reason as yours. We have MFI, really low count/ motility. Nothing improved ours and we went through 3 cycles without getting to blastocyst and was losing hope. I was 35 at the time and I asked for DH to be on Clomid and anastrozole as I read this can really improve sperm count/quality. It was the cycle that worked. His count shot up 3 times what it was, great motility and morphology. We have a one year old daughter now. As we are gearing up for a cycle in March, DH is on these again. The clinics say that ICSI bypass sperm issues in most cases but there is no bypassing poor sperm quality. I just wanted to let you know in case this was something you could try?

Kev1984 · 20/01/2021 23:01

@Janefx40 my partner is on Impril and hoping this helps with morthology and the anti-spent antibodies that keep appearing in his sample.

@Bonster37 I’m going to look in to the 2 drugs you mentioned 👍 glad that worked for you.

MF1981 · 21/01/2021 10:01

Morning. So does anyone have any tips to increase size of lining?! 🙈 Had my scan this morning and am only at 5.7 when they want me to be over 8. They said they’ll call me this afternoon to probably tell me to up my progynova dose and book in a scan in a few days from now. So gutted as was hoping to transfer middle of next week but I want it to be right so the little embryos have half a chance. It’s also annoying as when I’ve been scanned during a natural cycle or even when I was on stims my lining was 8.5. They did say though that it’s a triple layer lining and that’s good apparently.

elsaesmeralda · 21/01/2021 10:53

@MF1981 sorry no tips but will be watching as I have been worried about this happening since the nurse put it in my head !

Kiza · 21/01/2021 10:56

@MF1981 there's lots of IVF myths such as pomegranate juice, Brazil nuts daily, pineapple. Also daily walks to get blood flowing, hot water bottle (heat can aid lining) but don't use hot water bottle after transfer. Accupuncture can also help to bring energy and heat to the uterus.

MF1981 · 21/01/2021 10:58

Got a hot water bottle now and will go for a lunchtime walk I think. Lockdown rules out acupuncture unfortunately 🙁. I’ll order some Brazil nuts on my shopping that’s coming tomorrow. So frustrating when my natural lining has always been so good!

Kiza · 21/01/2021 11:16

@MF1981 the trilateral layer is great news and you've still got a few days till transfer. Pomegranate juice is full of anti oxidants so down some of that too.
Ladies against all odds of only 2 follicles and 1 egg being collected it's fertilised!!! 🎉 day 2 transfer tomorrow which is DP birthday so he's ecstatic!

MF1981 · 21/01/2021 11:24

That’s brilliant news @Kiza!!! So pleased for you!!!

starkid · 21/01/2021 11:50

@Kiza - ahhhh such amazing news to hear!! Congratulations on your transfer tomorrow and best of luck to you! Grin Star

I've got egg collection tomorrow - 10 follicles with potential eggs, so fingers crossed :)

Janefx40 · 21/01/2021 12:08

@Kiza this is fantastic news! What a lovely birthday gift for your DPs birthday.

@starkid this is great too! Best of luck for your EC!

@MF1981 not sure about linings beyond what the others have said but my acupuncturist is still working so you may be able to find one too! I think some clinics may give Viagra but you're not far off so probably don't need that. Triple layer is perfect!

@Bonster37 thank you. I will ask about these at our next appointment

@Lindyloolou yes we had our appt Jonathan Ramsay yesterday. He was wonderful but also very clear about how stark our situation was. He's doing more tests so we shall see.
