Hi all,

Am about to start my Clomid journey and reading through the 2018 Clomid thread this is what I'm looking for. It's extremely difficult to talk about the issues with people who don't actually understand them so if anyone wants to join in the more the merrier!

I'm 30
TTC #1
Cycle #?? Been trying for 5 years
Have mild Prolactinoma
Taking daily 1mg Bromocriptine for tumour
Just been given 3 months of Clomid
Am also slightly overweight but have never ovulated.

Yeah, it might turn out to be a chemical, but many women bleed in early pregnancy so yes time will tell.

You may have ovulated late which could explain the line being so faint.

Marmite83 · 31/03/2019 14:48

I've had bleeding in both of my pregnancies before this one. Spotting in the first one which resulted in mc. I had a much bigger bleed (but still no where near as extreme as this one) with my daughter. A hpt tomorrow and Tues will hopefully give me a better idea. Noy expectinh to see a lome at all tomorrow.

Hope everyone is doing ok today, Mother's Day can be hard! x

Marmite83 · 31/03/2019 14:49

*Not expecting to see a line tomorrow

Eleonor15 · 01/04/2019 09:07

Hi all, how are you?
I need advice, please. What AF is like while on Clomid? I had 2 very heavy discharge days with clots on cd 26-27 and less discharge on cd 28. And i was hoping to see proper bleeding to start Clomid cycle 2, but nothing happened. Did two tests, bfn. Today is cd 35.
I am starting to think that this was AF and i missed Clomid moment 🤷🏼‍♀️🤔

fulanigirl · 01/04/2019 09:19

@Eleonor15 AF was awful for me! I was in so much pain, very heavy bleeding with clots for 4 days maybe

Pinktruffle · 01/04/2019 09:50

A quick question. My period is usually about 4 - 5 days long. I started taking Letrozole from Day 2 for 5 days as instructed by my doc so finished taking it on Friday. I'm now on Day 9 and still getting some spotting/brownish discharge, is this normal?

Pinktruffle · 01/04/2019 09:56

@marmite83 hope you are doing ok, I'll be thinking of you today x

doomkittycleo · 01/04/2019 10:23

@pinktruffle how heavy is the spotting? Does leterozole work in the same way as clomid?

I finally got my positive opk this morning hurrah!!

Due to being told to abstain for 5 days and then ovulating a bit later than usual it’s been a week since we BD’d.

I jumped straight in the bath and shaved, washed my hair, and put my best lingerie and some makeup on. According to Drs instructions we now need to BD for the next 3 days.

I’ve also taken some Guaifenesin this morning (and will continue throughout the day) to help with CM as the clomid has definitely affected it.

If you guys don’t take it it’s worth getting some. The brand name is Robitussin and it’s the only cough medicine that loosens mucus. It is not selective, so will loosen all mucus, not just the stuff in your throat (if you get my drift 😉).

Marmite83 · 01/04/2019 11:01

Thanks @pinktruffle, negative test this m9rnibg. Not unexpected but still upsetting. Spoke to my consultant just now and he said to just wait until next cycle to start Clomid again. He said the two I've taken could still lengthen my cycle and effect ovulation.

The Clomid didn't seem to lengthen my bleeding when I took it last cycle, not sure about Letrozole though I'm afraid.

Congrats @doomkittycleo, enjoy all the BDing!

Marmite83 · 01/04/2019 11:04

@Eleonor, I can't help with that one I'm afraid as this was my first AF since starting Clomid and it's turned out to be a chemical pregnancy. No idea what my body is doing now! Hope you get some answers soon

Pinktruffle · 01/04/2019 11:37

I'm so sorry @marmite83. I get upset every time I get a negative pregnancy test so I can only imagine how much worse you feel.

@doomkittycleo the spotting is very light, I haven't even needed a pantyliner but its definitely there. Letrozole works similarly to Clomid. The big difference is that Letrozole inhibits the production of estrogen so more FSH is produced, and Clomid binds estrogen as far as I understand.

Bear88 · 01/04/2019 14:41

I also cant help with period after 1st clomid cycle as I'm on day 22 now of my first cycle so will know in a weeks time! Had my blood test today to see if ovulated so will get results in Wednesday.

@Marmite83 I am so sorry to read your posts and can only imagine how your feeling. I know you said you expected it but there is always that little glimmer of hope and I'm sending all my love to you xx

@Pinktruffle - clomid made my cycle shorter than normal. I usually have AF for 7 days but with the clomid after about 4 I started to then just spot so it certainly shortened mine. I think both medications though can both do either or in regards to spotting longer than normal.

I'm now halfway through the 2ww as due on Monday - day before my birthday! Will know on Wednesday whether to get excited if ovulated or not and have a possibility of actually being pregnant!

Ladies, how do you know if you are pregnant or not? I mean of the test is negative but the doctors say wait another 2 weeks and do another one before they give me provera to trigger AF? Is it possible that the test will not show pregnancy when it is 2 weeks or so?

Pinktruffle · 01/04/2019 16:11

There is nothing you can do but wait another 2 weeks and take the test @eleonor15. There is no other real way of telling. I know being patient is hard especially with month after month of disappointment but most other symptoms can be other things. Only the two blue lines/a blood teat/an ultrasound depending on how far gone you are will tell you.

@bear88 interesting, mine seems to have become longer but I guess both drugs work in different ways. I think Letrozole has slightly less side effects and if my current experience is anything to go by, that's definitely been the case for me. The spotting looks to have almost stopped today. I'm going to start ovulation testing I think. My cycle has previously been 35-40 days so I ovulate quite late in to it, I'm hoping this will speed things up.

Bear88 · 02/04/2019 08:21

@eleonor15 it is possible it depends on when you actually ovulated as depends on the level you have if it will show up or not.

I'm CD24 today so AF due on Monday and I am so tired. Literally cannot keep my eyes open when I get home from work and I'm being very forgetful due to the tiredness. I've been trying really hard not to symptom spot until I know for a fact if I ovulated or not - roll on tomorrow at 2pm!

My question is - can it simply be the clomid making me tired and be absolutely nothing to do with pregnancy?! I have no sore boobs but have slight low cramps so I'm convinced I didn't ovulate and AF will show up early.

@Pinktruffle it's so strange the differences a similar drug can do to people isn't it? How are you feeling today?

@Marmite83 am thinking of you, hope you're doing ok? Xx

@Bear88 hi) i had similar with clomid on first cycle. Really tired and lack of energy. I also had some kind of cramps or like little needle pain somewhere around ovaries area on cd 19 🤷🏼‍♀️
But i am almost 100% sure i have not ovulated and not pregnant. The discharge i had for 3 days on cd 26-28 is gone, so no periods, no bfp, no nothing.

Marmite83 · 02/04/2019 10:11

Hope you get an answer soon @Eleonor15, it's so frustrating not knowing what's going on isn't it.

So yesterday's negative test was done from my FMU in a pot as I didn't manage to get a test on the Sunday. I did the test about an hour after I peed so this morning I thought I should do another one just to be sure and there's an incredibly faint line again. I'm 99.9% sure I can't be pregnant. I've been bleeding since cd28 (last Thursday) and it was pretty heavy for a day and a half and then virtually disappeared but I still haven't had any cramping which is unusual for me, that's why I did the test on Sunday. I've had light bleeding on and off since Sunday afternoon. I can't see any colour in the lines which suggests they could be evap lines but they appeared within 2-3 minutes of taking the test so surely they couldn't be? The line this morning is no darker than the one on Sunday, if anything it's very slightly fainter. I'm going a little insane now. I just want to know either way. I don't have any other symptoms like sore boobs or bad bloating, both of which I had with my daughter from very early on. The tests I've been using are sensitive to 10mlu so surely if I was pregnant the line should be darker by now. I think I just have to assume that I probably was pregnant but am having a chemical pregnancy. I'll test again on Thursday to be sure.

Pinktruffle · 02/04/2019 13:09

Would it be worth getting a blood test done by your doctor @marmite83? It must be driving you crazy.

@bear88 I know it's not the same drug but Letrozole has made me extremely tired, I'm even napping when I get home from work and I never do that. It does state tiredness as a side effect in the little leaflet that came with my Letrozole.

Marmite83 · 02/04/2019 13:21

I doubt my doctor would agree to a blood test this early on @Pinktruffle. If I'm still getting faint positives into next week then I'll investigate options with the gp but honestly I don't think there's any hope. It is driving me pretty crazy!

doomkittycleo · 02/04/2019 14:02

@pinktruffle my first thoughts were ovulation spotting, but I see you haven’t even started testing yet.

Just be aware that medications can change your ovulation date quite a bit. With DD my average +ve opk was between CD17 and CD23, but when I conceived DD on clomid it was CD12.

Since having DD and weaning, they have been more like CD14, but this month it is CD16.

@Eleanor15, most people will get a bfp by the time their af is due (but there are exceptions where there is late implantation and it takes another few days. I guess they want you to be certain to avoid being in the situation @Marmite83 was in this weekend (taking your clomid pills because it didn’t show up yet).

@Marmite83, hope you’re feeling ok.

@Everyone I agree with the feeling extremely tired since taking the clomid tablets, I was really particularly whacked out last week.

I have had pretty intense ovulation pains coming and going since yesterday afternoon, so hopefully I’m definitely ovulating about now.

The +ve opk literally lasted a few hours, it was positive in the morning and negative by 2pm. I must have a really quick surge.

We managed to BD last night and I’m hoping to jump DP this afternoon as he’s working from home and DD is napping now. But DP did oral sex on me first and I’ve read that saliva is a sperm killer, so now worrying that it’ll harm our chances.

Will have to tell him not to do that again until after I ovulate. Hopefully it won’t have too much of an effect.

Bear88 · 02/04/2019 14:39

@Marmite83 my doctors are the same they normally won't blood test for pregnancy until 2 weeks late. In regards of the faint line - would that still be there at this stage if it's a CP?

OP posts:
Marmite83 · 02/04/2019 14:48

I've no idea @Bear88, I'm starting to wonder if I've imagined the lines completely, but when I look at the tests I can still see them, they are incredibly faint though and only show at certain angles (definitely not a shadow though). Surely if it was a viable pregnancy the line should've got darker after two more days. My body might just not have realised yet that there's no embryo there anymore. I've ordered a couple of FRERs which should be delivered Fri/Sat so I'll test again then to be sure. I've also ordered some CB OPKs as I have no idea what cd I'm on and only took 2 Clomids. This TTC malarkey is so much fun isn't it! Wink

Pinktruffle · 02/04/2019 17:56

@doomkittycleo I am expecting ovulation to be much earlier (if it happened at all of course). I started testing from yesterday, all been negative so far. We'll keep on with BD every other night and just hope and pray it works

doomkittycleo · 02/04/2019 18:20

@pinktruffle I’m just a little concerned that the spotting on CD9 could have been ovulation, in which case you could have missed it. Early but not impossible, it will be interesting to see if you get a +ve opk later in the cycle.
