Clomid thread 2019

Bear88 · 02/03/2019 20:30

Hi all,

Am about to start my Clomid journey and reading through the 2018 Clomid thread this is what I'm looking for. It's extremely difficult to talk about the issues with people who don't actually understand them so if anyone wants to join in the more the merrier!

I'm 30
TTC #1
Cycle #?? Been trying for 5 years
Have mild Prolactinoma
Taking daily 1mg Bromocriptine for tumour
Just been given 3 months of Clomid
Am also slightly overweight but have never ovulated.

Hmm I guess maybe, but the spotting to me seemed to be a prolonged ending to my period. Maybe I'm wrong? I'll keep you posted if I get a positive ovulation. I've got some pains this evening nothing severe though

doomkittycleo · 02/04/2019 19:33

@pinktruffle perhaps it was. There’s only one way to be sure and that’s see what date af comes (or a bfp 🤞) what day are you on now?

I had loads of twinges when I was taking the tablets, then nothing for a week and then the past 2 days since the positive opk I’ve had loads again. Here’s to hoping it’s a good sign.

Eleonor15 · 02/04/2019 19:38

How do you know you're ovulating? Apart from opk? Do you feel something differently?
I've been told by the doctor (two different ones) not to do opk as they are misleading. But I did and none of them showed ovulation just high on clearblue but it did not go back to zero anymore. Still showed high even when I had a scan which showed that there is no folicule anymore. 🤔

doomkittycleo · 02/04/2019 20:04

@Eleanor15, after getting confused by internet cheapies, DP bought me the basic clear blue one with the pink lids (not the advanced one with purple lids).

It only shows the LH surge and not the Oestrogen which is much easier to read as there’s no flashing smiley, just a circle or a solid smiley.

Other ways to tell you’re ovulating include cervical mucus (like egg whites) for up to 6 days before ovulation (although clomid can make it dryer), temping (google basal body temperature), but this only shows after you ovulate, and ovulation pains which to me feel a bit like a stitch when you’ve been running, but around where your ovaries are.

You can also check cervical position, but I’ve never had any success with this. Apparently when you’re ovulating it’s high soft and open and when you’re not it’s low closed and firm.

I use the fertility friend app to record all my data.

I hope all that helps.

Pinktruffle · 02/04/2019 21:06

I'm on CD10 now @doomkittycleo. DH is sure it's going to happen this month, it makes me worried that I'll have to let him down....

@eleanor15 I use OPK but don't hold too much stock in them, I think they put extra pressure om sometimes as you get worked up about them. I also use the app Clue which gives me my ovulation prediction based on my periods, I've found it really good for tracking and figuring out when my periods will come/when I'm ovulating. Clue was all I used when I got pregnant the first time. You can give your DH access to your cycle on Clue too and record when you do the BD

Eleonor15 · 02/04/2019 21:07

@doomkittycleo thank you!
I tried to measure basal temp, not working as my normal body temp is 35.8 or 35.9 and I never had the temp surge. Will try next cycle smth else. Opk make me stressed.

doomkittycleo · 02/04/2019 22:25

@pinktruffle I don’t really know how to help with your DH’s excitement as DP was the opposite when we were trying for DD.

He almost seemed disinterested for much of the process and I felt like I was forcing myself on him. Luckily he has taken to fatherhood like a natural and is more keen this time.

All I can say is embrace his enthusiasm, don’t feel like you’re letting him down. I’m sure he’d be gutted if he knew you felt that way. Just try to enjoy having this time with your DH. (Be greatful you don’t have to wait till your DC is napping to get BDing 😉).

First time round it became a chore and it wasn’t fun at all. I must admit I’m more relaxed this time,

If god forbid it does take a while to get your BFP you don’t want to burn out too soon.

Remember it took us 3 rounds of clomid with DD and if you’re still not pregnant by the time you’ve had a few more months on clomid, you have many more options available.

@Eleanor15, it’s funny how different Drs give different advice re opk’s. Mine specifically said to use them and BD accordingly. I have heard they can be inaccurate in the first 2-3 days after the last clomid pill, but other than that I don’t think they’re that unreliable.

I’m more sure than ever before that twice a day testing is better after seeing how short my surge was this cycle. Many people get a gradual second line, but mine came and went (if I tested once a day I’d have missed it).

I certainly was stressed this time last week as I didn’t get the +ve opk when I expected it, but now I’m feeling relieved as I know we got it and have BD’d yesterday and today. Gonna do tomorrow too, then we can relax for the next 2 weeks knowing we’ve done our best (who am I kidding 😉, I’ll be symptom spotting like the rest of you).

doomkittycleo · 03/04/2019 10:08

Just thought I’d share my opk chart with you all as a few people have mentioned difficulties with them.

I got my positive on the clear blue test on CD16 which when I first looked at the cheap opk I’d have said it was negative; however this particular batch of opk’s are quite pale anyway, so it’s difficult to tell. When I looked at it again I actually agreed ok the test line is as dark as the control line, but just that both lines are quite pale.

My test having gone back to negative the same day in the afternoon and given my usual cycle length and the tests being consistent with one another I’d say the clear blue one was correct and that I did ovulate on CD17 after the positive opk on CD16.

Also my ovulation pains were strongest on that day too. I had hardly any ewcm, but I remember the month I conceived DD that happened too so I think that’s the clomid.

We used conceive easy lube when we conceived DD and I’ve used it again this time to help our chances.

Let the 2ww begin 🙏 !

Hi ladies

Apologies in advance if this has already been answered... I just wanted to know what the scan involves? So I’ve been told I will need to call the clinic on the first day of my period and come
In for a scan then or the day after... is this an external scan or internal?

I have been prescribed 2 rounds of clomid starting end of this month

Eleonor15 · 03/04/2019 18:58

@Zara84 hi, mine does scan on cd 8, this is internal scan when plastick thing is inserted into your V. And then on the monitor the nurse sees if there are any dominant folicule available. It there is she will tell you when to BD )

Zara84 · 03/04/2019 19:38

Ahhh I see ... I was a bit worried about that about having the scan whilst still on period Blush but oh well at least it prepares me...thank you for clarifying :)

doomkittycleo · 05/04/2019 14:35

There’s been no updates in a few days, is everyone doing ok?

I’m 3dpo and it is extremely uneventful right now.

Bear88 · 05/04/2019 14:44

@doomkittycleo I've not posted as was waiting for my blood test results to see if I actually ovulated. They apparently lost them since wed Tuesday but magically found them today! My levels were 33 on day 21. Is that good or bad? I know it needs to be higher than 10 but I'm slightly worried 33 is too high? I'm due AF on Monday and have been having lot of cramps that feel similar to AF but dont normally get them before AF arrives. Only started to have tender nipples today and tested Wednesday with a early detection one but got a BFN. I knew I would but I couldn't help myself. Anyone got any advice on my level? Or the cramps?! Lol

OP posts:
doomkittycleo · 05/04/2019 15:09

@Bear88, a progesterone level above 30 is a good sign that you ovulated. Mine was in the 50’s when it was last done, but the Dr didn’t comment either way on that one.

My clomid cycles aren’t being monitored so no way of knowing until I get a bfp or af.

Regarding the cramps; when I was pregnant with DD I’d had cramps like af the whole week and was certain af was on the way, but she never came. Then again as it’s a clomid cycle you may be getting cramps sooner than usual because you actually ovulated this time.

Monday isn’t far off 🤞

Eleonor15 · 05/04/2019 15:09

Hi all, i am doing a private scan now to see where I am, as i did not have any AF so far, cd 39, and had just three days of discharge on cd 26-28, so not sure if it was period or not as no proper bleeding.
So waiting for the nurse to tell me what to do as nhs keeps referring me to doing the tests for another 2 weeks and then another 2 weeks which does not make sence at all if i got bfn.
On a separate note, i feel like i am having a huge melt down. No mood, crying and angry 🤷🏼‍♀️

Marmite83 · 05/04/2019 15:12

No advice I'm afraid @Bear88, I seem to get twinges and sensitive nipples randomly throughout my cycle these days. Hopefully the cramps are implantation cramps and you'll have some positive news for us soon. I haven't seen anything to suggest that progesterone can be too high, as you said, anything over 10 is supposed to be good.

I've been avoiding posting @doomkittycleo as I still don't know what's going on with me and you must all be getting a bit tired of my long posts. I had another faint line yesterday. Just waiting to do a FRER over the weekend. I've also now bought a CB OPK so will start them on Saturday too. One of them will give me a reliable answer soon hopefully!

How's everyone else doing? Anyone other than @doomkittycleo nearly at the end of their cycle? Would be lovely to see some bfps soon Smile

Marmite83 · 05/04/2019 15:17

Hope the scan goes ok @Eleonor15 and you finally get some answers. I'm not surprised you're feeling angry, some people can be so blasé about things related to fertility, I don't think they understand how stressful and devastating it can be.

doomkittycleo · 05/04/2019 15:33

@Eleanor15 I hope the scan goes well for you and you get some answers.

@Marmite83 don’t be silly, no one minds your long posts. That’s why were here. We’re all in the same boat with infertility, we know how frustrating all the unknowns can be and we just want to support each other.

Keep updating guys, your comments help me through the 2ww.

Bear88 · 05/04/2019 16:06

@Marmite83 phew! Well as long as there's no too high then I'm happy! I'm am hoping but just knowing that I actually ovulated is such a massive relief to me whether we get pregnant on the first cycle I'm not sure will happen but we can dream! Also agree with doom - your long posts are wanted on here, we all know how it can be on this wild journey and were all here for each other.

@doomkittycleo the 21 bloods are the only thing they are monitoring me for and I don't do OPKs I just get myself all discombobulated lol! I have got fingers crossed for Monday and how lovely it would be as it's my birthday on Tuesday hehe!!

Thanks ladies!

I've got everything crossed for an early birthday present for you on Monday @doomkittycleo

Pinktruffle · 05/04/2019 17:41

I'm on CD13 and still getting negative OPK. I'm starting to worry that I missed my ovulation, or that I'm not going to ovulate at all 😕 I hate all this

doomkittycleo · 05/04/2019 18:26

@pinktrutfle Stay positive hun. There’s a chance you’ll ovulate late like I did. I’ll also say when my opk changed to positive it was sudden and very short lived.

I was expecting to get a gradual second line getting darker over a few days, but this month it didn’t happen like that.

It was negative for days (I started testing CD9 and it didn’t go positive till CD16 so felt like an eternity); then bam positive, then the same afternoon bam negative again.

The majority of people ovulate 7-10 days after the last clomid pill, and mine wasn’t until 10 days after.

Eleonor15 · 05/04/2019 19:25

Hi all, i am hoping for good news from everyone who is waiting for bfp 🙏🏻

So update from me, did a scan privately and guess what, those 3 days of discharge were my period (how i am supposed to know this?!!) and now it appears to be cd 14 and i have a dominant folicle size 20mm (without clomid as did not take it, was expecting the proper bleeding to come). So now i have no hopes to ovulate this cycle and lining is thin as well, but at least this is clear, whereas nhs still suggests another 2 week wait and do tests. 🤦🏼‍♀️

I am just very very very upset that we are missing this cycle and we are off for 3 weeks during Easter so we cant take clomid as will not be monitored. And i blame myself for not understanding that this 3 days were a period and the time just goes and goes and it will take us another 2 months for the new cycle on clomid. And this will be our second so the full 6 cycles on clomid will last another year.
And i will be 37 by then with 3 years ttc. Want to kill myself just thinking about this.

Bear88 · 05/04/2019 19:28

Thank you @Marmite83! I will of course keep you all updated.

@Pinktruffle you may have ovulated late - do you normally track your ovulation? If so what day do you normally have it?

@eleonor15 how was the scan?

@Bear88 hi, below is the msg, right before yours.
