Hi all,

Am about to start my Clomid journey and reading through the 2018 Clomid thread this is what I'm looking for. It's extremely difficult to talk about the issues with people who don't actually understand them so if anyone wants to join in the more the merrier!

I'm 30
TTC #1
Cycle #?? Been trying for 5 years
Have mild Prolactinoma
Taking daily 1mg Bromocriptine for tumour
Just been given 3 months of Clomid
Am also slightly overweight but have never ovulated.

Smile

I've been struggling this month, feeling really low and pretty hopeless. I'm not sure if it's a side effect of the Clomid or I've just had enough and feel like I'm running on fumes. Doesn't help that my body has been all over the place. AF ended (or so I thought) on Thursday, then on Sunday I had nasty cramps all morning and more bleeding. By Monday it had pretty much stopped again and since then there's been lots of little twinges here and there and some light spotting. Just wish I could see inside my uterus and understand what's going on! The second guessing is driving me mad.

I've booked on to an IVF open day this Saturday with a fertility clinic near me as I've started reading up on IVF options and clinics and I'm at a total loss for how to decide who to go with and which option is best for us. If nothing else, I need to figure out how much its likely to cost us. I turn 36 at the beginning of June and I've set that as a cut off for trying naturally so at least if I have all the information then we can hopefully hit the ground running.

UnicornRainbowsRain · 14/03/2019 17:17

@NMC80 try every day for weeks. It's a slog but worked for us.

Willowjasmine · 14/03/2019 18:15

@Marmite83 sorry to hear you're feeling so down. I'm feeling much the same today. On cd27/12dpo and started spotting and cramping today. Due af on Saturday so about right. I really though Clomid cycle 2 would be the one... I have read about so many people conceiving on cycle 2 I just had it built up in my head. Days like this I feel like just sacking it in.

Marmite83 · 14/03/2019 18:41

Thanks @willowjasmine, sorry to hear AF is starting to make an appearance, it's all just so frustrating isn't it. Hope you're feeling more positive and ready to tackle another cycle soon!

doomkittycleo · 14/03/2019 21:21

Thanks @Marmite83, I’m sorry to hear you’re feeling down. It’ll be interesting to go to the ivf info day. Conceiving on clomid would be better than ivf, but at least you have the option of it if need be. I had one of those weird start/stop AF’s in December and wasn’t even on clomid at the time. I did wonder if it was a cyst that had caused it, but the following month everything was normal again. Hopefully next cycle will be better.

@willowjasmine with DD it was third time lucky. Fingers crossed for next cycle.

Hi all, I'm currently ttc through IUI. I just had my first cycle cancelled as I had 5 mature follicles - I was/am gutted but obviously understand the need to avoid a multiple. For this cycle I took 50mg of clomid from day 2 - 6 of my cycle. The nurse said I must be very sensitive to clomid so I'm unsure what to do for my next cycle? The dr has said I could take 25mg from day 2 - 6 this time but I'm worried the same thing will happen again so I'm tempted to go for a natural cycle. Would be really keen to hear what people think? The context is that I'm in a same-sex relationship so no known fertility issues, although I naturally have a low number of follicles. I'm 36. Thank you Smile

Hi all, i am having thoughts about how do I know if I have ovulated or not? During the last scan on Wedn my egg was 23mm and the nurse said I will ovulate "any time soon". But i have been doing OPK for a week already and it still shows nothing (no LH surge). So is it possible to have a grown egg and to ovulate? I am just stressing myself out because OPK dont show any sign of ovulation.

MaryLouWho · 16/03/2019 16:33

@Eleonor15 what day of your cycle are you on?

Eleonor15 · 16/03/2019 17:48

@MaryLouWho on wednesday when i had a scan and egg was 23mm i was on 16th day of cycle. Today is day 19.

MaryLouWho · 16/03/2019 18:13

@Eleonor15 are you sure it wasn't the follicle that measured that much? It depends how long your cycle is normally, but you may not have ovulated. I think I did yesterday on day 15 but I have a pretty standard 28 day cycle normally. Can you go back on Monday for a scan?

Eleonor15 · 16/03/2019 18:37

@MaryLouWho maybe folicule, i dont quite understand the difference or how it all werks. On the scan it was round (she turned the monitor so i could see as well). My cycle is very irregular. 35 on average, last one was 71 days and periods were triggered by provera.

Eleonor15 · 16/03/2019 18:38

They will not see me again. I had 3 scans with nhs already. Only if i go private.

MaryLouWho · 16/03/2019 19:22

@Eleonor15 the follicles look like black holes on the scan so likely to be them - I've had a few recently and it was all about the follicles and their size. Based on your cycle lengths you probably haven't ovulated yet, keep doing the strips and they will indicate when it's about to happen when you have a surge. I'm going private so not sure about how the NHS works, but if you are going about things the "natural" way then the surge is the best time to go for it. I wouldn't worry though, everyone's cycle is different in length.

Eleonor15 · 16/03/2019 19:36

@MaryLouWho thank you! I will continue. We are doing 6 cycles on clomid with nhs, this is the first one only. Fingers crossed

doomkittycleo · 16/03/2019 20:16

Welcome @MaryLouWho gosh 5 follicles that’s a lot. I’d probably suggest a natural cycle, just to see how you’re doing on your own.

@Eleonor15 do you use opk’s twice per day? Some people’s LH surge is really short and you miss it if you only test in the morning. I usually buy a load of internet cheapies and test first thing and 2pm.

The cycle I conceived on clomid with DD I ovulated earlier than expected (usually between CD17 and CD21, but on clomid it was CD12) so it can bring your cycle forward a bit, but based on your large follicle I’d guess it would be fairly soon after that.

I’m really starting to feel nervous as AF is due Sunday/Monday, if she arrives I’ll be starting my first round of clomid and if she doesn’t I could get my bfp. I hate the last few days of the TWW. They really drag.

Eleonor15 · 16/03/2019 20:40

@doomkittycleo i did the opk only early morning (around 6.30) when preparing for work. Thanks for advice, i will do twice a day, but i have clearblue now and they are so expensive (( so was trying to last on one pack. I still have sex every day for the last week and will continue. Hoping for the best.

fulanigirl · 17/03/2019 06:56

Two week wait is awful. Currently 7dpo and I've gotten my hopes up already.

doomkittycleo · 17/03/2019 17:18

Think the 🧙‍♀️ has got me 😞. I’ve started spotting and cramps have arrived.

Oh well, I guess that’s me starting clomid on Tuesday.

May be the PMT talking, but even though DD was conceived on clomid it’s still disheartening to need medical help to have another child 🙁.

Marmite83 · 17/03/2019 22:13

@doomkittycleo I know what you mean, never thought I'd need surgery, Clomid, Inofolic and now possibly IVF to hopefully conceive #2. Hopefully this next cycle is the one for you!

I'm currently on cd17 and I'm not convinced I've ovulated. Not seen any ewcm at all this month, none last month either. So frustrating. Guess I just have to wait to have my day 21 blood test now.

doomkittycleo · 17/03/2019 23:11

@Marmite83, Clomid can dry up your cm, so don’t rely on it as a sign in a clomid cycle. The cycle I conceive DD I didn’t notice any.

If you’re worried about that try using some preseed or conceive easy lube.

Also, this cough medicine is known for loosening mucus (including cervical mucus). Could be a coincidence, but I was taking that the month I conceived DD on clomid too.

Marmite83 · 17/03/2019 23:14

Thanks @doomkittycleo that makes me feel a little more positive. We already use conceive plus lube but maybe the cough medicine is worth a try next cycle!

Eleonor15 · 18/03/2019 07:37

@Marmite83 hi, we also use concieve plus lubricant but i am very cautious if this actually helps or we should try naturally without it.
I am cd 21 but i dont think i have ovulated yet, the opk shows high (clearblue one), but i still want to see peak. Just losing my ming why it takes so long to ovulate.

doomkittycleo · 18/03/2019 09:40

@Eleonor15 if you have plenty ewcm yourself then you probably don’t need it, but if like @Marmite83 you notice you have less on a particular month, it’s worth giving it a go as it’s unlikely to cause any problems.

Your cycle this month is a bit of an enigma though.

Marmite83 · 18/03/2019 10:00

@Eleonor15, we used it when trying for my dd and it didn't prevent us from conceiving (no way to know if it helped or not!) so I came to the conclusion that it shouldn't do any harm to use it. That's strange that it's still showing high, hopefully you'll get the peak soon. I've given up doing opk as I found it just made me more anxious although I do kinda wish I'd done it this cycle now! I guess that's what the day 21 progesterone test is for though.

Eleonor15 · 18/03/2019 10:07

@Marmite83 the reviews of the gel were really good when we were deciding to buy or not.
In re to progesterone, mine is up to 3 times lower that it should be. Thats why the doctors are saying that i am not ovulating and have long irregular cycle, hence clomid.
But i am just soo annoyed to see that even with clomid i dont get a positive opk, especially given the folicle size 23mm last wednesday.
