Hi all,

Am about to start my Clomid journey and reading through the 2018 Clomid thread this is what I'm looking for. It's extremely difficult to talk about the issues with people who don't actually understand them so if anyone wants to join in the more the merrier!

I'm 30
TTC #1
Cycle #?? Been trying for 5 years
Have mild Prolactinoma
Taking daily 1mg Bromocriptine for tumour
Just been given 3 months of Clomid
Am also slightly overweight but have never ovulated.

Well I've started af so that's another cycle down. Dh has suggested I have the lap ASAP but I'm concerned about taking time off work and losing my job. And also wondering if the clomid could work.

I don't really know how clomid works for people that ovulate. Might do a month and then see about the lap.

Hormones have been all over the place and I've been irritated at everything, also crying at the drop of a hat. I cried at the dentist the other day, for no reason!

UnicornRainbowsRain · 11/03/2019 12:53

My child is from cycle 3 of 50mg and lots and lots of sex that month.

Marmite83 · 11/03/2019 13:26

Sorry to hear AF has made an appearance @liamhemsworthrealwife.

Can I ask why you think you might lose your job if you have a lap? I have to say I'm not sure if Clomid works for people who ovulate. Everything suggests that I do ovulate but my consultant still suggested I take it. I came to the conclusion that it was worth a try as if it doesn't work then it's on to IVF.

Hormones are such a pain aren't they! I cry at some very stupid things too, try not to be too hard on yourself, this is a very exhausting experience, emotionally and physically.

Eleonor15 · 11/03/2019 17:26

Hi all, i just wanted to say i really do understand how it makes you feel going through the treatment, hornones and then working full time. I have the same issue taking time off for appointments and it is really not supported at work to get pregnant (i am in finance). So i couldnt go for a scan today, for example, as i had to think of smth on wednesday and friday for a scan. Now have to think of smth for wednesday when i should have the third scan. It will delay me by hour i dont know what an excuse i could come up with. And it is just a first cycle. ((( but at least i am ok with my hormones as i finished clomid a week ago.

NMC80 · 12/03/2019 09:03

Hi @Bear88, you’re not out until AF shows up so 🤞. So I eventually got my results back after an admin delay. Progesterone @day 21 is 32.6 which my consultant was pleased with. I know it confirms ovulation and my scan did too but I’m not sure it’s enough to sustain pregnancy. He said it was so I’ll go with it but nagging doubt is hanging around. Did a FRER this morning as due later this week but BFN! My option now is to either continue with 50mg clomid next cycle or double it to 100mg. It makes me ovulate so not sure how increasing dose will help other than increasing my prog levels. I just hate all the waiting around. 🤞for us all xx

Bear88 · 12/03/2019 13:18

Hi all!

So AF finally showed her ugly head yesterday afternoon - do I now class today as day 2 as it's full bleed day? If so my first clomid tablets will be taken before bed. I'm happy she's here as I think deep down I knew it was all the people saying 'oohhh you might be' Haha!

@NMC80 good news that you ovulated! It just might be too soon to test as levels may not be high enough yet? I know it's a lot easier to say but why not wait till the day she's due. That's always been my problem I like to test to see then get disappointed when its negative - obviously before I knew I didn't ovulate lol! Xx

@Eleonor15 do your work not know about your fertility problems? Surely they can't fore you for it? My work know all the problems we've had and luckily my manager is really understanding and as long as I work any time that I miss she's fine with appointments and blood tests etc. I need to book in for my 21 day blood test to see if my first cycle of clomid works for me

Hi, hope you don't mind me joining!
TTC #1 - have PCOS.
Having prescription for Clomid to start on my next cycle which is due to arrive 25/03!
Nice to read through everyone's journeys!

Kelly199 · 12/03/2019 14:12

Thought I should add that I've been ttc for just over a year, off contraception for 3.
Had bloods, (having more before next cycle), transvaginal scan and HyCoSy.
Should be having my script for Clomid on Friday ready for end of month!

Marmite83 · 12/03/2019 17:35

Welcome @Kelly199

Sorry to hear AF showed @Bear88 but, as you say, at least you can start your Clomid now. My AF started late Friday so I decided that Sunday was day two as my consultant said to take it the second day of proper bleeding.

@NMC80 I've got everything crossed for you!

Eleonor15 · 12/03/2019 18:23

@Bear88 hi) I cant say at work( im in banking, pregnancy and maternaty leave is not supported. They will put a stop on my career development. 😔

One guy at work has his wife going through ivf, and he is not doing well, it affects his job, but no one supports him and understands(

My boss is 46 and she has no kids. And doesnt like them, so i will never get any support. It will make it even worse. But i am hoping for the best that clomid will work and we wont have to go through ivf.

Ladies, what is AF? I am very new to the whole process and dont get around acronymes very well.

NMC80 · 12/03/2019 18:24

Well I think I spoke too soon, AF joined me today, oh what a slap in the face! Taking a month off from clomid, been such a horrible experience so far, I really do admire anyone who is in this for the long haul! I’m seriously considering my desire to become a Mother! Got a works do on Friday, going to let my hair down for a bit and see how I feel. Good luck to everyone, got everything crossed for you for this month and next 😘xx

Marmite83 · 12/03/2019 19:56

That sucks @Eleonor15, fingers crossed the Clomid works for you. P.s. AF stands for Aunt Flo (your period)

Sorry to hear that @NMC80 letting your hair down sounds like a good idea!

liamhemsworthsrealwife · 12/03/2019 22:10

Sorry to those who have had AF arrive Sad

My specialist wants me to take the clomid days 5-9.

@NMC80 what do you mean by the clomid has been a horrible experience? Did you get a lot side effects? I'm not looking forward to it!!

liamhemsworthsrealwife · 12/03/2019 22:12

Oh on the work thing. I've already had some time off this year, and I've been told to take 2-3 weeks off for the lap. I don't think they'll be happy about it. Scans aren't an issue as the office opens at 7am so I have them done before work.

NMC80 · 13/03/2019 08:41

Well the clomid wasn’t too bad, just had aching breasts for first couple of days and then it passed but I was only on the low dose. I mean the whole process in general has been awful, the scans, blood tests, I had a HSG which wasn’t pleasant and the psychological element which has been the hardest. Getting my hopes up, the anticipation and then subsequent disappointment. I just had to stop yesterday and question whether I really wanted it which I know sounds ridiculous because becoming a Mother is one of the most amazing things ever. I feel liberated though having decided to hold off it all for a while, I slept better than I have in ages last night and feel like I’m back to my normal self today. We just have to find our own way of dealing with it I guess. I took the clomid at night so that might have helped with any side effects. Don’t worry too much about it, it hasn’t worked for me but I hear a lot of success stories from other people. Good luck! X

Bear88 · 13/03/2019 08:41

@Eleonor15 I'm so sorry to read your job is so unsupportive! I couldn't even imagine going through this and not having support from at least my manager.

@NMC80 I'm sorry to hear that as well but I completely understand what you mean and how you feel. Was this your last cycle or did they give you more? I also wish you all the best for everything :) xx

@Marmite83 I took my first 2 clomid tablets last night - anyone know how quickly the side effects - if any - will take to appear. I'm feeling a little groggy today and got a dry mouth but apart from that I'm all good so not sure if I just didn't sleep well haha!

@NMC80 just read your new message - You should be proud of yourself. I always believe it takes a bigger person to make that kind of decision rather then keep going for something that you can live without. We've both already decided that we will try the Clomid and then were happy for 1 round of IVF. It will then all depend on how the IVF route goes for me and how it affects us - we wont jeopardize our marriage and if that means just the 2 of us then I'll also be happy with that but at least we can say we tried. Wish you all the best :) xx

And with regards to work, as far as I’m aware, don’t we have a (legal) right to a Family? And TTC is part of that so I don’t think time off for medical investigations can be challenged. Have you sat down with your employer and explained the situation? They have to treat it with confidence. I did that with mine and they’ve been very understanding. I do work for the NHS though so maybe it’s a bit easier. Xx

NMC80 · 13/03/2019 09:09

Hi @Bear 88, thank you for your kind words. It was my first round of clomid, my Consultsnt advised me to either continuing at 50mg the next cycle or increase to 100mg. I would’ve restarted today. But, we’ve been TTC for almost a year now and I appreciate this doesn’t sound long but it’s put such a strain on my mental well-being and Marriage that nothing is worth that compromise as far as I’m concerned. I believe what is for you won’t go past you so if it’s meant to happen, it will. I have such admiration for you, you and the other ladies on here have such stamina! Keeping everything crossed for you and sending lots of hugs and baby dust xx

UnicornRainbowsRain · 13/03/2019 19:58

@NMC my progesterone was 28 the month I got pregnant! I was just pleased to have ovulated Smile

NMC80 · 13/03/2019 20:57

Yes I was pleased I ovulated on clomid, but that’s just part 1. It’s the conception part that’s not working for me! X

Eleonor15 · 13/03/2019 23:02

Hi all, i was on my third scan today after clomid and egg is 23mm so i should ovulate soon. I am still concerned there is no actual ovulation yet and it is day 16 of the cycle 🤷🏼‍♀️ but it there, big and round, thats good news.

doomkittycleo · 14/03/2019 14:41

Hi all, can I join.

I am 31 years old and conceived DD1 on clomid in January 2017. She was born at 36 weeks and 4 days and was conceived on the third round of clomid.

We didn’t think it had worked and the consultant had referred us for ivf on the nhs. However the same day as we received our nhs funding approval letter I got my bfp.

We have been trying for DC2 since DD was 5 months old (when my periods came back), although I was still breastfeeding her until a year old. She’s just coming up to 18 months old now so has been weaned for 6 months.

We requested a re-referral to the fertility team in our local gynaecologist department and I had my appointment on Monday. I was expecting all tests from the first time to be repeated as I’d had DD since then, but the Dr was happy to prescribe 6 months of clomid straight away (huge relief as I believe clomid is magic stuff).

AF is due on Sunday so I will be hopefully starting clomid again on Monday. Let’s hope it works quickly as the longer it takes the more anxious I get about all the negative symptoms of pregnancy.

I know that probably sounds insensitive as many of you have been trying to get pregnant for some time and would kill to have those symptoms, but the first trimester does kind of suck.

I wish you all good luck on the clomid and hope that it works for you as it did for me last time.

It’ll be nice to share experiences with others in this group.

Marmite83 · 14/03/2019 15:17

Welcome @doomkittycleo I hope the Clomid works some magic for you again. I totally understand what you mean about the negative symptoms, the first trimester is a bitch and it's hard to not think about it the longer ttc goes on (I'm on month 16 currently, first on Clomid). Sounds crazy really because I'm so desperate to fall pregnant.
