Hi all,

Am about to start my Clomid journey and reading through the 2018 Clomid thread this is what I'm looking for. It's extremely difficult to talk about the issues with people who don't actually understand them so if anyone wants to join in the more the merrier!

I'm 30
TTC #1
Cycle #?? Been trying for 5 years
Have mild Prolactinoma
Taking daily 1mg Bromocriptine for tumour
Just been given 3 months of Clomid
Am also slightly overweight but have never ovulated.

Hiya it’s a prefilled injection called Ovitrelle which I believe is a type of hcg drug to induce ovulation.

Jesskir89 · 15/06/2019 22:40

Hi girls, I need some help please. I've just started spotting now CD26! So confirmation it's not my month again :( do I start chlomid tomorrow or Monday as I'm not on yet? I'm so upset, it explains my 1lb weight gain this morning though :(

doomkittycleo · 15/06/2019 23:39

@jesskir89, the instructions from my Dr say this;

If your period starts before 1pm, that is cycle day 1, but if it’s after 1pm, then that is cycle day 0, and the following day is cycle day 1.

So I’m that case I’d say Monday at the earliest (depending if the spotting progresses to proper flow).

Jesskir89 · 15/06/2019 23:41

Great, thank you! I thought that tbh but weren't sure. I'll start them Monday as still no proper flow. I'm so disappointed I've only got 2 cycles left to TTC x

doomkittycleo · 16/06/2019 08:20

@Jesskir89, stay positive, it might happen yet.

FF has plotted me as definitely ovulating on CD9, that means my positive opk would have been before I was even off the clomid.

At least we managed to BD around that time, so at least we’re not out yet, but after my last cycle being 20 days and now this it’s getting frustrating as I don’t have a clue what my body’s doing.

@jesskir89 stay positive, there’s only a small chance of it working each cycle and can take up 6-12 months.

@doomkittycleo the graph does look like you have ovulated. It’s awful when you just want your body to cooperate. Fingers crossed for you this month.

My instructions from the fertility clinic say to take the clomid in morning after breakfast. Is that what everyone else does? I’m on holiday at the moment and worried about side effects on holiday. My AF should appear on tues. am I better waiting till next cycle when back in England?

doomkittycleo · 16/06/2019 12:14

@Explorers10, it doesn’t really matter what time you take the clomid, just that it’s the same time every day; however many people choose to take it at night so they sleep through most of the side effects.

Once I was on 100mg I took one tablet in the morning and one in the evening.

Jesskir89 · 16/06/2019 13:07

Thanks girls I'm trying to stay positive but after 2.5 years it's hard. I take mine late morning after breakfast I take both together and do turn a bit loopy! Hope it's your month @doomkittycleo

seven201 · 16/06/2019 14:48

@doomkittycleo I was told to take both pills together, not to split them. Don't know why. I take mine before bed personally.

doomkittycleo · 16/06/2019 15:08

@seven201 my prescription said 50mg twice per day, that’s why mine is split.

Samatha92 · 16/06/2019 19:07

Hi I posted in here a couple of Weeks ago about starting clomid. Well I have just took my 5th tablet. I have had the following symptoms, dizziness/lightheaded, breast pain and ovarian pain. I’m paranoid about ovarian hyper stimulation due to not being monitored this cycle. I’m nervous about the false hope of this working first time round😩.

Jesskir89 · 16/06/2019 19:32

Hi @samantha92, symptoms are awful but at least you've not turned loopy. I've just gone through cycle 4 with false hope so I know the feeling but everyone's different, stay optimistic and positive :)

Samatha92 · 16/06/2019 19:38

@Jesskir89 I’m definitely trying to stay hopeful. Clomid is my only option so if it doesn’t work I’ll be broken. I don’t meet the BMI for IVF. Although I didn’t for clomid but they prescribed it due to me making an effort to loss weight. I’m just naturally pessimistic so my own worst enemy. I’m so sorry you’ve had your hopes up sending love your way.

Jesskir89 · 16/06/2019 21:18

@samantha92 I don't need the bmi yet I still need to lose over 2 stone! Once I've lost it I'm being referred. There's always other options x

Jesskir89 · 16/06/2019 22:10

Meet the bmi*

Marmite83 · 16/06/2019 22:10

Try not to worry too much about OHSS @Samatha92. I spoke to my consultant about it because I'm not monitored either and he said it's incredibly unlikely on Clomid. I've just gone up to 100mg, first dose last night, and so far my main side effect is a bad tummy. I was expecting to feel worse.

Samatha92 · 16/06/2019 22:28

@marmite83 Thats a relief takes a lot of the worry off.wishing you luck with the 100mg. That’s excellent you’ve not experienced much symptoms. Mines have subsided. I’m hoping to feel more normal now the last tablet has been taken. Just OV test and BD to do now 😬

Pinktruffle · 17/06/2019 08:28

I'm on CD 25. Had some my early AF signs this morning so it looks like this is another unsuccessful month. In August it'll be 2 years of TTC and still nothing to show for it but a broken heart and PTSD Sad

Marmite83 · 17/06/2019 09:43

It's so hard to stay positive isn't it @Pinktruffle but we have to believe it will happen, we just have to keep trying. I've got everything crossed for you that it's not AF.

Marmite83 · 17/06/2019 09:48

I'm having a pretty awful day so far. My dd had a full on meltdown this morning when I dropped her at nursery and I ended up being 35 mins late for work! Then I was sitting in a meeting (that I was 5 mins late for) and my stomach did a flip and I thought I was going to have to run out of the meeting to the toilet. All I could think was that if I ran off to the toilet everyone would think I was pregnant and that would really upset me because, of course, I'm not. My stomach is churning, does anyone else get a bad tummy with Clomid? I had it before but it's so much worse on 100mg Sad

Dinosauraddict · 17/06/2019 09:59

Sorry you're having such a bad day @Marmite83. I don't get a bad tummy but I'm only on 50, so that may be why...

Disappointing scan this morning for me. Only one 12mm follicle on day 13. Going back on Wednesday, but they're not hopeful. Plus side is that my womb lining has thickened up. Silver linings and all that.

Pinktruffle · 17/06/2019 12:09

@Marmite83 sorry to hear you are having such a crappy day, hopefully it will get better. Letrozole has different side effects and other than the effects on my mood, I think I've been lucky to escape with nothing of note so far.

@Dinosauraddict that sucks.... at least they could up your dosage if this doesnt seem to be working? And you are lucky to be having scans to monitor it so hopefully the issue can be addressed quickly for you

Marmite83 · 17/06/2019 12:19

Sorry to hear that @Dinosauraddict although good news about the lining. That's something I'm worried about because I'm not monitored.

Thanks @Pinktruffle. My consultant asked if I'd like to try Letrozole rather than Clomid. I asked what the benefit would be but he said they're basically the same thing so I decided to stick with Clomid. It's so hard to know what to do for the best.

Pinktruffle · 17/06/2019 12:23

They work in a slightly different way @Marmite83, one binds estrogen and the other prevents its release (can't remember which way round it is). Letrozole doesnt thin endometrial lining and has higher rates of pregnancy but not neccaserialy love births so I don't know if it's worth swapping to be honest. Maybe try another couple of months of Clomid and then swap? Or swap during your wait for IVF if you decide to go down that route?

Marmite83 · 17/06/2019 12:46

Thanks @Pinktruffle, I knew there was bound to be some diffference, my consultant was very blasé about it all. We have our IVF initial consultation on Friday and we have the money saved up for a round to start straight away so if Clomid doesn't work this cycle then I'm hoping we'll be starting IVF next cycle.
