Hi all,

Am about to start my Clomid journey and reading through the 2018 Clomid thread this is what I'm looking for. It's extremely difficult to talk about the issues with people who don't actually understand them so if anyone wants to join in the more the merrier!

I'm 30
TTC #1
Cycle #?? Been trying for 5 years
Have mild Prolactinoma
Taking daily 1mg Bromocriptine for tumour
Just been given 3 months of Clomid
Am also slightly overweight but have never ovulated.

Thanks for the update yes I'm nhs so had blood tests for 2 months and were ovulating so upped to 100mg and further blood test shows I am

seven201 · 13/06/2019 20:33

@doomkittycleo I've just watched the video. I now have mascara all over my face!

@Explorers10 I've just had one scan privately (the day 10-14 one) and that cost £130 in the south east. I only ended up having a scan as my 21 day blood test (that I talked my gp into doing otherwise I'd still be none the wiser) showed I'd released 3 or 4 eggs. Scan (following cycl with a lower dose) then showed the clomid was thinning my womb lining too much. Personally, I'd recommend paying for one scan and/or blood test.

Dinosauraddict · 13/06/2019 21:15

@Explorers10 my clinic does quite a good package for £525 per cycle which includes all scans, blood tests etc. The amount of scans depends on how well the follicles grow. But from cd10 it is a scan every other day until the follicles are ready for an injection to stimulate ovulation. You also get the 21 day blood test etc as well as baseline scan, consultations all in. If 50mg doesn't work this cycle, I'm going up to 100mg next cycle.

Dinosauraddict · 13/06/2019 21:16

I should say I'm SE too!

doomkittycleo · 13/06/2019 21:25

@Explorers10, I phoned up and said I was on 100mg when I conceived DD and we’ve tried 50mg for 3 months, so can we increase it.

I just got a call from the clinical secretary saying my Dr has agreed and a prescription was on its way to me in the post.

If it comes to it we’ll do ivf, I’m lucky that DP has a good job (he’s self employed and does pretty well for himself). So the money isn’t an issue. The self injecting is the biggest off out for me as I faint with needles.

@seven201 would the private clinic just do a scan even if you weren’t having treatment there? I didn’t think they’d do that.

There are no private clinics near me, every one is over an hour drive away, so every other day for scans would be quite a trek (plus trying to find a babysitter for DD).

Hopefully I don’t end up with multiples 🙈. Not sure I could cope with 3 or more under 3 😭.

seven201 · 13/06/2019 21:42

@doomkittycleo I think you'd probably have to pay for an initial consultation too. I've only had an initial consultation (got the clomid prescription and the letter to gp for referral back as nhs patient for the laparoscopy) and then this one scan (with change of meds to tamoxifen and need to go back for another scan next cycle). I was just told to come one day between day 10-14, not the every day checking how it's exactly going thing. I'm a teacher so the thought of trying to get time off at short notice so frequently makes me so stressed! Another thing that makes me worry about ivf as there must be so many appointments.

I read somewhere online that clomid thins the womb lining of something like 25% users, and thin lining means the egg is unlikely implant and a greater risk of miscarriage.

We discussed skipping waiting for the laparoscopy and going straight for ivf but it's such a major thing. I have a dd too so would have to pay. We're very fortunate in that my dad has said he will help with the cost. But who knows how many rounds it would take! It's scary. I'd definitely do it if we have to though.

doomkittycleo · 13/06/2019 22:06

@Seven201 I will see how this round goes and then consider having a private consultation after that. I’m guessing it’d be too short notice for a consultation now as I’m expecting the opk to turn positive tomorrow or the day after (it was fairly close this morning).

As I conceived DD on clomid, hopefully that means I’m not one of the 25% that get a thin lining.

I’m a SAHM atm, so time off isn’t an issue (unless you count finding a babysitter).

seven201 · 13/06/2019 22:12

@doomkittycleo that sounds a sensible plan. Just a word of warning that on day 8 or 9 of this cycle my opk looked nearly positive. Today it's cd16 and it's only now positive. The clomid can muck up opks so don't rely on just them, especially for a few days after taking your last tablet.

seven201 · 13/06/2019 22:13

And yes I should imagine that as you conceived with it before that it probably doesn't affect your womb lining.

doomkittycleo · 13/06/2019 22:25

@seven201, that’s why I’m using both Wondfos and the clear blue one as well. To be doubly sure. Also they recommend a minimum of 3 days after clomid before starting opk’s and it can give a false positive. I’m guessing that’s why you got an almost positive on CD8/9.

seven201 · 13/06/2019 22:53

Good idea. That's what I've read too. I've not bothered with clearblue this cycle as it never showed positive for me last cycle, despite my blood test confirming ovulation. My wondfo one tonight was pretty clear though.

All the supplements my gynaecologist recommended arrived today!

doomkittycleo · 13/06/2019 23:36

@seven201 I’ve been waiting for the wondfo to show almost positive, then use the clearblue once it’s close.

As I use the pink one (without the flashing smiley), it doesn’t really matter what day I start (as long as I have a rough idea with the Wondfos).

I usually always get a positive with clearblue, but last cycle was a 20’day duff.

Previous cycle was CD12 and one before was CD16.

Explorers10 · 14/06/2019 00:48

@seven201 thanks for letting me know the price of the scan, helpful! Really glad you had the scan so now you are on another drug that could work out better for you. Really sorry you went through all that.

@Dinosauraddict thanks for sharing the cost, that’s good it’s all in, must give you peace of mind. I’m also from south!

@doomkittycleo I see I did wonder how you got it increased, that good they had increased it seeing as you conceived first time on the highest dose. I’m the same with needles and my husband is too. I don’t mind them if someone else does it for me but doubt my husband will do them for me as he don’t like them either. Let’s hope we don’t get to the stage of ivf.

Dinosauraddict · 14/06/2019 09:23

Disappointing scan this morning, best follicle is 10mm on right ovary, so not growing as well as I hoped. Got scan appointments for Monday (cd 13) and Wednesday (cd15) to see how it's going, but they don't reckon they'll be able to trigger until cd17. Plan is to increase clomid to 100mg next cycle.

Pinktruffle · 14/06/2019 10:03

I had my 21 day blood test yesterday. Have to wait a week to 10 days for the result. It feels as though haven't done much BD this month as the GP told us to cut down the amount we were DTD. We'll see how it goes.
Interesting about the private scans. I'm might pay for my own next month

Marmite83 · 14/06/2019 10:28

Sorry to hear that @Dinosauraddict, there's still time for it to grow so don't lose hope just yet.

As I suspected, although I had stupidly also started getting my hopes up, af arrived last night, just as I was going to bed. I was planning to test this morning so at least I didn't have the disappointment of a negative test. I'm going to count today as CD1 since it started so late last night and will start taking my first round of 100mg tomorrow evening. Slightly concerned about what the increased dose will do in terms of side effects but I guess I'll find out soon.

Dinosauraddict · 14/06/2019 10:39

Sorry about AF arriving @Marmite83!

Marmite83 · 14/06/2019 11:05

Thanks @Dinosauraddict. I don't know why I get my hopes up every month, you'd think I'd have learnt by now. I guess if we didn't have hope we wouldn't be taking Clomid in the first place. On to another cycle!

Pinktruffle · 14/06/2019 11:23

We need to try and think it will happen at @marmite83, the placebo effect can be very powerful so just that hope or 'it will happen' can help.

Saying that, sorry to hear about AF arriving. One of us is surely due a BFP very soon

Marmite83 · 14/06/2019 11:32

Thanks @Pinktruffle, I know you're right. I think I'll allow myself today to be grumpy about it (especially as the only other person in my office is pregnant) and will start tomorrow ready for round 4 of Clomid. Hopefully your day 21 test will come back positive.

Would be lovely to see some more bfps on here soon!

Zara84 · 14/06/2019 13:24

Hi ladies - just returned from my 3rd Clomid scan.. told to take the trigger shot tomorrow and then BD for the next 5 days.

Dinosauraddict - mine took a few scans to get to the right size so don’t worry your definitely still in chance this cycle.

Let’s hope this is the cycle for us all trying!

doomkittycleo · 14/06/2019 16:26

Hmm, my BBT shot up this morning, but my opk was again (almost positive, but not quite).

Does anyone think I ovulated on CD10 or earlier based on this?

The opk has now gone to a definate negative again now, maybe I missed my surge?

Clomid thread 2019
Dinosauraddict · 14/06/2019 18:33

Thanks @Zara84 - that gives me hope. What is the trigger shot like by the way? If all goes to plan next Friday will be my first and not sure what to expect...?

Zara84 · 14/06/2019 22:54

Hi dinosauraddict - just taken the shot literally 15 mins ago... made my husband do it for me. Was fine pretty straight forward.. very thin needle so you won’t feel much.

I was reading online and says some people get nauseous & headaches etc. So will have to see what happens but at the moment I feel fine.

I am sure you will be having the shot very soon.. try not to worry I know it’s so difficult we have been trying for just over 2 years with unexplained infertility...wouldn’t wish this on anyone. But recently I’ve decided to just do whatever is in my control and leave the rest to fate hopefully things will work out for us all !

Explorers10 · 15/06/2019 00:20

@Dinosauraddict sorry to hear about your scan not going as well as you hoped. It could all change on mon and wed next week, hope you have a good weekend and hope you can try to relax as much as possible before your next scans. Keep us updated how the scans go.

@Zara84 good luck this month, sounds like this scan saw more progress than the last scan. Hope you are feeling a lot better now. What is the trigger shot? What drug is it?
