Hi all,

Am about to start my Clomid journey and reading through the 2018 Clomid thread this is what I'm looking for. It's extremely difficult to talk about the issues with people who don't actually understand them so if anyone wants to join in the more the merrier!

I'm 30
TTC #1
Cycle #?? Been trying for 5 years
Have mild Prolactinoma
Taking daily 1mg Bromocriptine for tumour
Just been given 3 months of Clomid
Am also slightly overweight but have never ovulated.

@Dinosauraddict sorry to hear about your scan, fingers crossed for your next one on wed. How big does the follicle need to be?

Dinosauraddict · 17/06/2019 13:15

Thanks @Marmite83 and @Pinktruffle!

@Explorers10 - it needs to be 17mm for trigger injection. I'm hoping for 15mm Wednesday and then 17mm Friday (might be naive optimism here). Got scans booked for both days...

Explorers10 · 17/06/2019 13:41

@Dinosauraddict good luck keep positive

Dinosauraddict · 17/06/2019 14:51

My clinic says there's nothing that can be done to make my follicle grow... anyone know any old wives' tales??

Pinktruffle · 17/06/2019 15:53

Just out of interest, have any of you tried or know anyone that's tried Ovusense?

Zara84 · 17/06/2019 22:59

Hi pinktruffle- I used the Ovusense monitor for one cycle... I used it religiously and it did tell me when I ovulated but was similar to my app... I decided not to use it again due to the hassle of putting it in and wearing all night for 30 days. I think it could be useful for those who are unsure they ovulate or don’t know when - it did show me that I ovulated a little later than I thought I did... I don’t think I ovulate each month either as opks don’t show ovulation each month... I would say it’s useful if your really lost on when you or if you ovulate but opks for me are just easier to use. Hope that helps!

bookworm18 · 17/06/2019 23:34

I'm on my 9th cycle with ovusense @Pinktruffle and definitely recommend it. I have irregular cycles (33-79 days) so it's nice to have a 12-13 day warning which AF is going to show up. As I have PCOS it doesn't tend to predict ovulation accurately for me but always confirms when I ovulated about 3 days after. Now I'm on clomid I have a similar pattern each cycle and am starting to see the signs to predict better!

Pinktruffle · 18/06/2019 08:22

Thanks for the information @bookworm28 and @zara84. My periods are fairly regular plus/minus a day or so I'm not sure I'll need it though it would be good to know exactly when I ovulate. The hassle of putting it in/taking it out really puts me off

Dinosauraddict · 19/06/2019 09:24

Another follicle scan today (day 17) and follicle has grown slightly but only to 14mm. Got to go back again Friday (day 19) and hoping it has got to 16mm so we can trigger at weekend :-(

Pinktruffle · 19/06/2019 10:18

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you @Dinosauraddict

Explorers10 · 19/06/2019 10:20

@Dinosauraddict its growing, just remember it’s a marathon not a sprint. Good luck with your next scan on Friday. Hope you are emotionally ok with all the scans.

Dinosauraddict · 19/06/2019 11:26

Thanks @Explorers10 and @Pinktruffle - it seems to be growing at 1mm per day, so if it can just maintain that then fingers crossed. Getting a bit worn down with it, but I'm most concerned about work not getting pissed off at me starting late every other day!

Pinktruffle · 19/06/2019 11:35

Yeah, I worry about work getting pissed off too. I'm currently applying for new jobs as my job is too stressful and I worry if I do get one.m I'll end up getting fired in the 6 month probation period because I've had hospital appointments, especially if I end up needing IVF.

It is wearing and there is very little release from the worry @Dinosauraddict but I hope offloading on all of us here helps a little

Dinosauraddict · 19/06/2019 12:38

Thanks @Pinktruffle it definitely helps. I'm in a similar position in that I'm ready for a promotion, but daren't go for one, because what if the new boss is less flexible? (Same as you I worry about if clomid fails and we need IVF - it's so stressful and time consuming!) Do you find work accommodating at the mo?

Pinktruffle · 19/06/2019 13:15

They are accommodating at the moment but I work on Education and I've been here for a few years so they kind of have to be.m also my head and his wife went through IVF so he in particular is understanding.

If I were to go to another school I would need time off during term time so I worry they would just ask me to leave as I wont have the contractual protection I have here due to time served but my current school is a hell hole to put it kindly!

Explorers10 · 19/06/2019 14:46

@Dinosauraddict I hadn’t thought of all the late morning starts at work. Have you been honest and told them about treatment? With all my appointments all I said my blood results showed a metabolism disorder and I had to go for a scan. Ive only been at my current job 7 months so didn’t want them knowing I’m trying as I only just got there.

Everytimeiseeher · 19/06/2019 15:02

I e been trying to conceive for 4 years with my new partner. I already have 2 dc, dd12 and ds11 we have had all tests done and unexplained fertility. I have had 2 chemical pregnancies I. The last 2 years. I am 42 so consultant can’t help only advice is private ivf. I had clomid to conceive dd but dr won’t give me it now as she said it’s not as popular. I feel it’s my only chance. Does anywhere know where I could buy some?

Dinosauraddict · 19/06/2019 15:53

@Explorers10 - I've been honest with my boss since before Christmas when I felt the appointments for all the tests were getting too regular to ignore. He is a single man who has absolutely no idea, but is genuinely nice and doesn't want any details lol. I am lucky in that I'm relatively senior and don't work set hours, so as long as I deliver I have quite a bit of flexibility in current role, but the promotion would be risky to take atm I think (although money would help, particularly for mat leave, and would also mean my career was in an even better place long-term for me to take a mat leave break, so it's all a juggling act I guess...)

@Everytimeiseeher - you can go private just for the clomid. Whatever you do, however desperate, do not resort to buying from online etc. It's a huge risk.

Dinosauraddict · 19/06/2019 15:56

And also @Everytimeiseeher -I would go to a different private clinic for a second opinion re clomid as it is definitely still popular, but there may be concerns with your age, chances of multiples etc.

Explorers10 · 19/06/2019 16:32

@Dinosauraddict that’s good you have been honest with your boss. If it were me and I was having scans every other day my boss would think what’s going on & i am the type to worry in case she found out somehow. so much easier what your doing to tell the truth. Your boss should be fine then with you coming in a few hours later so hopefully that settles your mind that your late in every other day

Dinosauraddict · 19/06/2019 17:27

@Explorers10 whilst logically I know that it's ok, the work is still getting done etc I'm feeling a bit guilty about being less visible to my direct reports (who don't know what's going on)!

Marmite83 · 19/06/2019 18:25

Work is tricky isn't it. I'm lucky that my work can be relatively flexible around appointments. I have a work mobile so can still keep an eye on emails while in waiting rooms. If we start IVF then I will tell my boss, who I'm certain will be very understanding, but I don't want to tell anyone else in my team. I think my direct report will notice something's going on but hopefully she won't ask. Ideally I would have left where I work a few years ago to progress my career but the maternity package is good so I've been putting off leaving in the hope that we get pregnant. Also don't need the stress of a new job while ttc.
Fingers crossed for your next scan @Dinosauraddict

Zara84 · 19/06/2019 18:25

Hiya I know the feeling... spoke to my line manager today about everything as I keep having scans and appts... best to be honest and I do think they are sympathetic..

Dinosauraddict · 19/06/2019 19:05

How did your manager take it @Zara84?

Zara84 · 19/06/2019 19:29

I’ve recently moved teams and she was okay about it... I didn’t want to mention it as previous manager knew and we had about 3 people go off on mat leave in a year and each time I could feel her feeling sorry for me and I didn’t want to feel
That again... but she said it’s fine and just do what I have to do. Sometimes I find asking too much makes the whole thing more complicated vs just telling them that this is the situation and you will be needing some time off now and then and So far she seems okay.
