Hi all,

Am about to start my Clomid journey and reading through the 2018 Clomid thread this is what I'm looking for. It's extremely difficult to talk about the issues with people who don't actually understand them so if anyone wants to join in the more the merrier!

I'm 30
TTC #1
Cycle #?? Been trying for 5 years
Have mild Prolactinoma
Taking daily 1mg Bromocriptine for tumour
Just been given 3 months of Clomid
Am also slightly overweight but have never ovulated.

Finally someone has called me back. They have said to wait till day 35, if no af abstain from BD for 7 days , take a pregnancy test if bfn then start next round of clomid.

seven201 · 03/06/2019 20:44

Excellent @doomkittycleo . You now have a plan. If I were you I'd keep up the opks until day 35 too.

doomkittycleo · 03/06/2019 20:56

@Seven201 I was thinking of giving up with the opk’s as I’ve used so many it’s getting me down.

My spotting has gotten slightly heavier, but it can’t possibly be af on CD20 (could it?).

It’s difficult to say seeing as my last af pretty much consisted of 7 days of spotting Confused.

BelleSausage · 03/06/2019 21:03

Hello

Can I hop on? Just finished taking my first lot of tablets. Now waiting to see if I ovulate (and jumping DH whenever I can).

Some background: we are incredibly lucky to already have a DD. Tried for two years for a second after a miscarriage. Fingers crossed the Clomid does it. I am getting old!

seven201 · 03/06/2019 21:30

@doomkittycleo I'm sorry but I have no idea. How frustrating. What day did you start the opks? Maybe you ovulated really early before testing.

@BelleSausage welcome. I'm on my second cycle of clomid, on day 5 today. I too am very lucky as I have a dd. I had a miscarriage and have been trying for a year and a half since then, but I do have one blocked Fallopian tube (hopefully will have surgery to unblock it). 🤞for us all.

doomkittycleo · 03/06/2019 21:47

Welcome @Bellesausage I also have a DD already, she was conceived on clomid after I was told I wasn’t ovulating on my own.

I’m currently on my third cycle of clomid, waiting to increase dose to 100mg, but having difficulties with no positive opk this month, but now spotting on CD20.

@Seven201, I do really appreciate all the replies and suggestions. It is possible I ovulated really early, but I did start opk tests on CD9, so it would have had to be reallllly early.

My BBT did drop by quite a bit this morning, so maybe that’s it.

Iamhopeful100 · 04/06/2019 08:35

I'm on my cd6. Taking my last clomid tonight. Any suggestions on when I should start my opks? I'm still waiting for a call from the hosp for the scan. They said they would but haven't booked me in. Need to chase.

doomkittycleo · 04/06/2019 09:29

@Iamhopeful10 I usually start opk testing around CD10, but most people get a positive some time between 5 and 10 days after the last clomid pill.

My cycle has been a mess the last month though. The spotting I had has now turned heavier, fresh red blood, with clots (although still relatively light), so I’m considering it af, but it’s only CD21?

Ffs why can’t my body just cooperate.

I’ve rang to speak to the nurse again (feel like such a pest), but the same nurse isn’t back until tomorrow, they said I could speak to something else, but I’d have to tell them the whole long story again. I’ve said I’ll wait until tomorrow, if today is the first day of red flow, then tomorrow will be CD2, so if she agrees, I should still be able to start the 100mg round of clomid 🤞.

Jesskir89 · 04/06/2019 14:23

I had s 26 day cycle last month it could be the chlomid...

doomkittycleo · 04/06/2019 14:50

@Jesskir89, thanks Hun. I’m just so confused (a 20 day cycle wtaf).

I just wish there was some kind of helpline we could call to speak to a professional any time we needed to.

This af (if that is what it is), has gone really light again (very much like last cycle), but it was heavy enough to need a tampon this morning. It’s now gone borderline spotting/af.

I’m just worrying they’ll tell me to take a month off, I feel like so much time has been wasted already as I couldn’t start the 100mg last month (as my Dr was on holiday).

BelleSausage · 04/06/2019 18:17

Thanks for the welcome! It’s nice to be able to talk about it. After all the tests and waiting it is good to finally get going. I was worried about the dreaded ‘Clomid rage’ but it hasn’t been that bad (not sure if DH would think the same!).

Is anyone getting scans to monitor ovulation? My consultant just wants bloods. DH is a bit petrified by the risk of twins. I did point out that haven’t been poked in to foof a hundred times for him to lose his nerve now Grin

AmyMaria2 · 04/06/2019 20:15

Hi all, my cycles were pretty good, usually 28 days, always ovulate and have a period on time... since I started clomid (cycle2 now) my cycle has gone down to 25 days & my periods are a lot shorter.. anyone had the same?
Thanks xx

doomkittycleo · 04/06/2019 20:19

@AmyMaria2 if you read my post above you’ll see that my af started today making that last cycle 20 days 😮. Also last af was 1 day of light flow followed by 5-6 days of spotting. This cycle looks like it’s going the same way.

I’m really upset about it as I didn’t get a positive opk, but now thinking I might have missed it as given this cycle length it would have been around CD7.

AmyMaria2 · 04/06/2019 20:32

Ah sorry @doomkittycleo I've just caught up, maybe it is due to the clomid, it does make it harder to track ovulation, I've got a blood tests Thursday but I'm thinking it may be the wrong day to do it as my cycle length has changed, just have to see if af arrives I suppose, thanks xx

Jesskir89 · 04/06/2019 22:02

Not sure how to tag people in on here lol. My cycles prior to chlomid were 35 to 36 days, since chlomid they've been mostly 28 apart from last month's 26 and they told me I had probably missed ovulation. Your best bet is to BD every other day through out the month then you won't miss it. Especially with you not being monitored x

AmyMaria2 · 05/06/2019 00:20

Thank you @Jesskir89 and just type a '@' and some name options should pop up Smile
Sorry another quick question .. in everyone's experience do you think there's any reason a fertility consultant wouldn't up your dose of clomid from 50mg to 100mg? I would have started my 3rd cycle of clomid 50mg when I next see my doc but I'm hoping she will make the last 3 months 100mg, does anyone know why she wouldn't? Thanks x

BelleSausage · 05/06/2019 07:15

@Jesskir89

I appear to be having the opposite. My cycles were getting shorter and shorter. Last month was 25 days.

I haven’t finished this cycle yet but AF was much longer and heavier immediately after starts by the tablets. It was odd. I haven’t had a full five day AF for a long time. Hopefully this stuff sorts itself out after a few rounds.

seven201 · 05/06/2019 07:16

@AmyMaria2 you only need your dose upping if current dose is not helping you ovulate. That's what I think anyway. You don't want a dose too big as you can overstimulate and release loads of eggs. I may be wrong though! I was started on 100mg and have had it reduced for that reason.

doomkittycleo · 05/06/2019 07:26

@BelleSausage, I wish I was getting follicle scans. My clinic doesn’t offer it.

@AmyMaria I call my Drs clinical secretary to ask about a dose increase and my Dr just agreed, so they sent me a new prescription in the post.

doomkittycleo · 05/06/2019 11:31

Well, the nurse called and said if I take a test and it’s bfn, that I can start another round of clomid. So on to 100mg it is.

She said clomid can cause cycles to go a bit nuts sometimes.

bookworm18 · 05/06/2019 16:30

20 days is very short @doomkittycleo, how frustrating. At least you can move onto another go very quickly. I'll be taking my second lot of clomid from tonight.

It's so hard to know when to take the meds though. Spotting started Sunday but it hasn't got any heavier than that really so a lot lighter than usual. I asked the nurse about it as she didn't seem concerned and said to start the meds today. I'll miss my tracking scan as on holiday unfortunately but at least we will be away during the fertile week!

BelleSausage · 05/06/2019 16:49

@doomkittycleo

I had assumed that they would give folical scans- having read about it on old threads on here. Was a bit bit taken aback when the consultant just wanted bloods. I suppose it is cheaper for them.

doomkittycleo · 05/06/2019 17:08

@BelleSausage, you’re lucky. I don’t even get bloods. My Dr made it very clear they won’t be offering any scans or checks. If I want them it looks like I’d be going private, but as I’m already part way through my clomid treatment I’m guessing they’d wanna do their own assessments which would delay things even more.

I conceived DD on 100mg clomid so fingers crossed 🤞.

@Bookworm, my cycles have been a lot lighter on clomid too, but this time it went from very definite spotting one day, to bright red blood with clots the next. Just not huge amounts of it. Enough to be too much for a panty liner, but not enough to fill a regular tampon (I’m using light tampons atm and they get full if I leave them in for several hours). Sorry for TMI, but just wanted to reassure you lighter periods are normal on clomid.

seven201 · 05/06/2019 19:34

At least @doomkittycleo you can start the new round knowing for sure you've got the all clear to start and that it's the higher dose this time.

Does anyone know if a monitoring scan would show anything if it's done after ovulation? I'm cd8 and my scan is on Monday (cd13). I've just done my first opk of the cycle and it's quite dark, so may go positive tomorrow. Can the doctor look to see what's going on after ovulation or is it a waste of an appointment and my money. I'm only having a scan this cycle due to my very high progesterone results last cycle. Dose has been lowered. Agh, why is nothing straightforward?!?

seven201 · 05/06/2019 19:38

Just remembered something but sure if I've made it up? Can the clomid give false positive opks for a couple of days after taking the last tablet? I think I read that somewhere...
