Hi all,

Am about to start my Clomid journey and reading through the 2018 Clomid thread this is what I'm looking for. It's extremely difficult to talk about the issues with people who don't actually understand them so if anyone wants to join in the more the merrier!

I'm 30
TTC #1
Cycle #?? Been trying for 5 years
Have mild Prolactinoma
Taking daily 1mg Bromocriptine for tumour
Just been given 3 months of Clomid
Am also slightly overweight but have never ovulated.

@Bear88 we BD’d last night, so that may have triggered it, but been doing opk’s from CD9 until now twice per day, so doubt I’d have missed it.

Bear88 · 01/06/2019 12:27

@doomkittycleo I also doubt you would've missed it if its twice a day your checking so that is really confusing. Agree that the BD could possibly have caused the spotting but it doesn't make it any better for you! Been getting some AF cramps today - due tomorrow - but not out until she shows! Feeling more relaxed about it though since the doctor gave me 3 more months of clomid so still have 3 more goes at TTC if this one is negative. I'm also now refusing to test until I'm actually late. Too horrible seeing negative tests.
How are you feeling today? It's so frustrating when theres no where you can contact on a weekend for advice!

@Bear88, the spotting seems to have stopped now, so that’s good, got slight twinges near my ovaries, a little like ovulation pains, and a little like mild period pains (can’t quite make my mind up), but it’s not too painful.

bookworm18 · 01/06/2019 17:28

I'm due tomorrow too @Bear88. Hope the witch stays away for both of us. Started getting the usual AF symptoms today though unfortunately. I'm on a hen do so not going to test until I'm back Monday but sure she will show before then! I'm also not drinking on the hen and now thinking that wasn't such a good idea but I wanted to have a whole cycle alcohol free WineConfused

bookworm18 · 01/06/2019 17:33

That sounds so confusing @doomkittycleo. I don't get on with opks as I'm not much help unfortunately but it sounds like you haven't missed it. Are you feeling better? Maybe the illness has delayed things? I hope you get a positive opk soon as waiting for ovulation is so frustrating (waited 58 days last cycle pre clomid).

seven201 · 01/06/2019 17:42

@doomkittycleo I guess all you can do is keep doing the opk's. As I mentioned sometimes they go positive for me and sometimes they just don't (despite me definitely ovulating), so it's possible this month it just wouldn't have shown positive for you.

I'm cd4 now. Last cycle day 5 and 6 were the worst for me as I just wanted to stay in bed all day and cry. Hopefully now I'm on a lower dose it won't be so bad.

AmyMaria2 · 02/06/2019 17:59

I don't use opks in my experience they have never worked, always shown negative and then I have found out that I did ovulate, gave up with them a while ago, hope they work better for you. x

doomkittycleo · 02/06/2019 19:11

@AmyMaria2 they have worked every other cycle. Plus I’m doing BBT’s this month so pretty certain I haven’t ovulated yet, now on CD19 and still nothing.

I don’t know whether to call the clinic tomorrow or hang on a few more days.

I keep getting twinges as if I’m gearing up to ovulate, but haven’t done yet. I’ve been in tears this afternoon because I don’t know if Clomid is going to work for me this time.

We can’t get funding for anything more as we have DD, but we could afford to go private if necessary. I’m wondering if we should just arrange a consultation with the private clinic or wait until I’ve tried a couple of rounds at 100mg.

Just not sure when my next af will be if I haven’t ovulated. Maybe they’ll give me provera?

Bear88 · 02/06/2019 22:10

@bookworm18 AF arrived for me yesterday and started my 4th round of clomid this evening! I'm wondering if maybe I should take some supplements to help with the quality of eggs now that I know I'm releasing some.

Anyone know or recommend anything?

@doomkittycleo I'm not sure about provera but I've been on 100mg of clomid for the last 3 months and ovulated each time - maybe see if a 100mg cycle will make a difference then maybe think of going private after? You could still ring them tomorrow if not for some advice/peace of mind?

@Bear88 sorry to hear af appeared.

@doomkittycleo it may well be it was just the illness delaying ovulation a bit. I think try a go or two on the 100mg before getting the ivf ball rolling. Maybe you could start researching clinics etc so you feel like you've done some of the prep work.

seven201 · 03/06/2019 09:37

@Bear88 I don't take supplements other than folic acid but have been thinking about the one that's mentioned on this thread quite a lot. Can't for the life of me remember the name right now!

seven201 · 03/06/2019 09:41

Inofolic?

doomkittycleo · 03/06/2019 10:57

@Seven201, I have already researched clinics as I was referred for IVF when TTC DD. The only 2 options are both about an hour drive away, 1 is the Hewitt Centre in Liverpool women’s hospital, the other is Care fertility in Manchester.

I was referred for IVF on the nhs at the Hewitt Centre back in 2016. Apparently they are one of the leading places in the country.

My current Dr is the clinical director for both, so I’m pretty sure they are both likely to be similar.

It’s just the lack of monitoring that is the bigggest stress, so I am wondering if I would get monitored if I went private.

I’ve rang my local clinic this morning for advice, but they are all in clinic, so I’ve been told they’ll ring me back.

Pinktruffle · 03/06/2019 11:09

I've started taking Ubiqunol which is meant to improve egg quality. I have previously taken Co-Enzyme Q10 which is a less effective supplement, but since I know IVF is probably on the horizon, I switched to the more expensive and allegedly more effective Ubiqunol

seven201 · 03/06/2019 11:52

@doomkittycleo what about asking the gp if they'll do a progesterone blood test next cycle (when you're on the 100mg)? That's what I did. I got my clomid through seeing a private gynaecologist and he didn't offer any monitoring although I didn't bring it up either (as I didn't know it was a thing) so it's not necessarily an nhs only thing. That said he is scanning me next week after last cycle's very high progesterone result. Maybe IF you did want some monitoring next cycle you could find a private gynaecologist who will do the monitoring? Or is that what you meant by contacting the clinic? I wasn't sure if you meant contacting them about ivf starting soon or just monitoring.

Thanks @Pinktruffle I'm going to look that up.

Bear88 · 03/06/2019 12:20

I've got the coq10 tablets which have got Ubiqunol in it so will huge that a go for the next 3 months worth of clomid. Need to be in it to win it lol!!
Only silver lining being on clomid is that AF isn't as heavy - which I've noticed is the case the longer I'm on it Smile

@Seven201, I’m a little worried there won’t be a next cycle atm as I haven’t ovulated.

That’s why I was asking about provera. If I haven’t ovulated I won’t get af and therefore won’t be able to start the next round.

Pinktruffle · 03/06/2019 13:57

@bear88 Co-enzyme Q10 is no where near as effective as Ubiqunol, that's why I switched.

@doomkittycleo I didnt think my period was going to come this round (it was late) my specialist gave me Provera to bring it on but I waited a couple of days and it came so didn't need to use it. I would try and get some Provera from your specialist if you can

seven201 · 03/06/2019 14:34

@Pinktruffle , sorry but do you have a link to where you buy it from. There are so many on amazon!

@doomkittycleo oh I see. I think you're probably worrying a bit too soon (although I would be too!). My cycles before clomid were roughly 34 days but I did occasionally have really long ones - 64 days was the longest. I'm not saying you shouldn't get the Provera. See what the specialist says.

Pinktruffle · 03/06/2019 14:51

@seven201 I private messaged you a link

seven201 · 03/06/2019 16:11

Thank you @Pinktruffle

doomkittycleo · 03/06/2019 16:19

@Meltdown!!!

I still haven’t had a call back, but just started spotting again. Had a tiny bit on Saturday morning after BD Friday night, then nothing, then just now it’s started again after using the loo (sorry for TMI).

No idea when to expect af as I haven’t had a positive opk. I don’t know what to do. I wish they’d call me back.

Marmite83 · 03/06/2019 16:52

My notifications stopped coming through again, nothing in junk this time so who knows what's going on there.

@doomkittycleo, sorry to hear you're in a bit of a limbo at the moment. It's so frustrating not knowing what's going on isn't it. I've been looking into IVF over the last few month and have been to a couple of open day events which have been very informative. Care Fertility in Manchester have one this Sunday. Maybe worth seeing if they have any spaces (if it works for your schedule).

The supplements I take are Inofolic and conception vitamins. I've been thinking maybe I should take Omega 3 too though.

doomkittycleo · 03/06/2019 16:58

@Marmite83 that’s really helpful to know, I’ll definately consider it.

seven201 · 03/06/2019 17:31

@doomkittycleo I think one of the clomid side effects listed is bleeding and spotting between periods. Hopefully they'll call you back soon.
