Hi all,

Am about to start my Clomid journey and reading through the 2018 Clomid thread this is what I'm looking for. It's extremely difficult to talk about the issues with people who don't actually understand them so if anyone wants to join in the more the merrier!

I'm 30
TTC #1
Cycle #?? Been trying for 5 years
Have mild Prolactinoma
Taking daily 1mg Bromocriptine for tumour
Just been given 3 months of Clomid
Am also slightly overweight but have never ovulated.

Awww maybe next month sweet. Just a quick one girls as ive not been doing ovulation sticks as they were stressing me out. I'm on CD9 atm what would you say is the average ovulation day you've found? I know it won't be yet but just want to make sure we have a good try this month as it's getting me so down x

Pinktruffle · 29/05/2019 13:35

All the literature says Day 14, but mine has been Days 16 - 18.

doomkittycleo · 29/05/2019 15:16

@Jesskir89, pre clomid I was getting positives on CD15, first clomid cycle it was CD16, last cycle it was CD12.

This cycle I am currently CD15 and no positive opk yet. I’m wondering if being ill has delayed it as there’s no signs at all yet.

I’m on my third day of antibiotics today.

bookworm18 · 29/05/2019 15:18

@Jesskir89 I'm on my first cycle (50mg) and it was day 16.

Marmite83 · 29/05/2019 16:06

The average is 7-10 days after your last Clomid tablet apparently. Mine have been earlier than they've ever been on Clomid.

Jesskir89 · 29/05/2019 20:56

Thanks girls I appreciate it. I stopped taken chlomid last Sunday so I'm thinking between this Sunday and Friday (days 13 to 18) to BD every other day for hopefully the best chance, this coincides with the days you've all mentioned too :) x

Jesskir89 · 29/05/2019 20:57

And Saturday incase it's day 12 lol

Constance1234 · 29/05/2019 21:29

I usually ovulate on day 17, but with Clomid it was day 14. If you just dtd every other day from around day 10 you should have it covered. Good luck :)

AmyMaria2 · 29/05/2019 21:32

Does anyone drink alcohol while on clomid? I haven't yet, I'm on second month. But going out for mums birthday tomorrow and wondered wether to avoid completely or not? I had a friend who got pregnant on 3rd month of clomid and she carried on smoking & drinking quite a lot while on clomid (until she fell pregnant)

Thanks for all advice x

seven201 · 29/05/2019 22:00

I reduce in the two week wait but otherwise drink as normal. Do what you're comfortable with. My thinking is it could take years to conceive and you don't want to be holding yourself back 'just in case' for all the time.

seven201 · 29/05/2019 22:02

@Jesskir89 I think you should start earlier and maybe go a little longer. Or chart using temp or opks, I didn't ovulate until day 19 I think and some people do early.

doomkittycleo · 29/05/2019 23:16

@AmyMaria2, if you look at my post at the top of the previous page you’ll see that I drink as normal on clomid. I’m not a huge drinker, but not prepared to miss out on the off chance that this is our month.

As long as you’re not going on a huge bender, a couple of glasses of whatever you fancy won’t hurt.

Question; has anyone else had ovulation delayed by illness? I’m CD16 tomorrow and still no positive opk (I took my clomid days 2-7) and the latest I’ve had a positive since TTC #2 is CD16.

I’m getting through dozens of opk’s this month and no sign of the line getting any darker yet.

Jesskir89 · 29/05/2019 23:48

Thanks girls will keep it regular from tonight I think :) fingers crossed for us all this month! I've also been drinking as normal but not loads of it.

AmyMaria2 · 30/05/2019 00:39

Thanks everyone. So right, Will hopefully have 9 months of no drinking so may as well carry on as normal for a whileWineSmile

Jesskir89 · 30/05/2019 10:06

Exactly! ;)

seven201 · 30/05/2019 10:19

@doomkittycleo I can't really comment on ovulating later when ill thing, but do remember that sometimes opks just don't show a positive. Mine didn't last month and I had actually ovulated lots of eggs (going from my progesterone results). Have sex every other day so you don't miss the boat.

doomkittycleo · 30/05/2019 11:01

@Seven201, I haven’t been BDing as our consultant said to wait for positive opk, then do 3 days in a row.

I’ve never not got a positive opk when I’ve tested and that’s even when I wasn’t ovulating.

I’m pretty confident it will go positive, but might be another week or so.

Constance1234 · 30/05/2019 12:02

@doomkittycleo that seems strange advice from your consultant. Mine said to do every other day from around day 8 to ovulation, as the sperm needs time to get to the egg and it can take up to 12 hours for the sperm to reach the egg, but can live inside you for around 3 days waiting for the egg. If you are only doing it after you get your positive opk, then as the egg doesn't live for more than 12 hours you could be missing the boat in terms of the sperm getting there on time. What is your consultant's explanation for their suggested approach as that is contrary to what my consultant said, and to everything I've read about conception.

doomkittycleo · 30/05/2019 12:47

@Constance1234 the explanation is that after positive opk it can take up to 72 hours after positive opk for you to actually ovulate.

Also that 5 day old sperm is the best quality therefore more likely to lead to conception. I did share the leaflet he gave me with the instructions on a few weeks ago.

Constance1234 · 30/05/2019 13:00

This is an good read about opks [http://maiamidwifery.com/2014/05/opks-flushing-money-hopes-getting-pregnant-drain/] Sorry I'm on my phone so I can't search your posts to see your age @doomkittycleo but I thought this was interesting:
"For some, the OPK turns positive a couple of days before ovulation. For others, it’s the day before. The older you get, the shorter the interval of time between a detectable surge in LH and the release of your egg. By the time you are in your late 30’s, the LH surge may come on the very day you ovulate. And by the time you are over 40, the egg may have already been released by the time you have enough LH in your urine to turn a kit positive"

Anyway @doomkittycleo like I said my consultant gave different advice to yours, but I guess they all have their own different methods and theories :) But from personal experience, I've been pregnant 3 times and each time was from dtd 2 or 3 days before ovulation.

Constance1234 · 30/05/2019 13:01

Sorry didn't mean to tag you twice! x

AmyMaria2 · 30/05/2019 13:11

Hi everyone
Just had my first tracking scan, I only have immature folicles, largest in my right ovary is 9mm and largest in my left is 15mm, does anyone know what the ideal size would be? Thanks x

doomkittycleo · 30/05/2019 14:03

@Constance1234, here is the page I was telling you about in leaflet given by my consultant.

As you can see he says to abstain from BD for 5 days leading up to positive opk. I’m only 32, so not in the late 30’s camp yet.

When we conceived DD (on clomid), it was the one cycle we didn’t use opk’s, but we had been doing the every 2-3 days method prior to that without success.

Anyway, I am temping this month so hopefully when I eventually get that positive opk I can confirm how many days after it I actually ovulate.

Just frustrating as being ill has messed me up.

Constance1234 · 30/05/2019 14:12

@doomkittycleo I'm keeping my fingers crossed it's your month this month :)

doomkittycleo · 30/05/2019 14:16

@Constance1234 maybe because I think it won’t happen because of a) inability to increase dose until next cycle because of delay in speaking to consultant and b) being unwell, maybe that’ll be the reason it does work.

When I conceived DD it was the month we’d pretty much given up because I got referred for IVF and thought that last cycle of clomid was just a box ticking exercise.
