Hi all,

Am about to start my Clomid journey and reading through the 2018 Clomid thread this is what I'm looking for. It's extremely difficult to talk about the issues with people who don't actually understand them so if anyone wants to join in the more the merrier!

I'm 30
TTC #1
Cycle #?? Been trying for 5 years
Have mild Prolactinoma
Taking daily 1mg Bromocriptine for tumour
Just been given 3 months of Clomid
Am also slightly overweight but have never ovulated.

Smile

@seven201, I just drink as normal until I know otherwise.

I’m on my 4th drink tonight. 1 red wine, x2 pornstar martinis and a White Russian type drink.

You can’t put your life on hold. Just enjoy yourself, you have plenty of time to be T total when you get your bfp.

seven201 · 25/05/2019 23:46

@doomkittycleo thanks. I wish I'd read this sooner! I had an attack of conscience and ended up having one glass of wine only! The rest had nearly a bottle of Prosecco each! At least my bill was cheap! You've made me want a White Russian!!

doomkittycleo · 26/05/2019 00:09

@seven201 gutted you didn’t see my message sooner.

You’ll have to go out again sometime to make up for it.

After it took 2 years to conceive DD I made the decision that behaving like I was potentially pregnant every cycle just made me get my hopes up and added to my stress massively.

It’s so much better when you just relax.

Quick question for those of you have PCOS here. How do you/do you manage it whilst your on Clomid? I love chocolate, but try and avoid it becaus often the PCOS and have been doing since I've been taking Letrozole, but that voice in the back of my head is saying 'the Letrozole is making you ovulate so you can eat all the chocolate you want, it'll make no difference'. I'm not sure if that's actually true though. I keep my sugar intake to an absolute minimum, no sugary drinks, no desserts, lots of fruit and veg. What do you guys do? Do you monitor whilst on medication?

It's probably worth mentioning that the doctor at the hospital said my BMI was low and if we have to go down the IVF route, i need to get my BMI to at least 19 - its 18.5 now and pretty much always has been, even when I didnt monitor my sugar intake

seven201 · 26/05/2019 20:05

@Pinktruffle sorry I don't know if I have pcos or not. I think maybe I do. I've not looked into changing my diet but probably should.

I guess technically if you're meant to reduce sugar for it you should keep that up. I don't know much about gaining weight as I'm addicted to chocolate so have the opposite problem but I guess you need to up your fat intake so full fat yoghurt, milk, butter etc. Do you eat enough?

doomkittycleo · 26/05/2019 21:12

@Pinktruffle I’m the same, not been given a diagnosis of PCOS, but may have it. When I had my hysterosalpingogram before having clomid to conceive DD1 the sonographer said I had a few immature follicles, but didn’t mention any cysts as such.

My weight is fairly stable and my BMI is about 20. I don’t drink sugary pop, but do like a cake or a bit of chocolate from time to time. Savoury stuff is more mg weakness, crisps, crackers, bread etc (although I am finding it bloats me more these days) and beer is also a weakness. I don’t drink a lot of it, but it is quite bloating.

I should probably try to eat healthier, but it’s not been mentioned by my Dr at all, so I assume they must think I’m ok as I’m a healthy weight.

bookworm18 · 26/05/2019 21:43

@Pinktruffle I have been recently diagnosed with lean PCOS and haven't been given much advise on diet. I gave up alcohol this cycle just to give my first cycle of clomid my best shot but my sugar intake has gone up as I've been swapping wine for desserts and mocktails! I figured the clomid is doing its job so I'll give myself a break from monitoring food for a cycle or two!

Jesskir89 · 27/05/2019 11:27

I have PCOS but not been given much dietry advice other than I need to lose 35lb :( struggled with my weight since being diagnosed at 22. Hope you've all had a lovely weekend. I'm back to the diet now and gym later must be done!

Marmite83 · 27/05/2019 11:34

I have PCOS and was given no advice from my consultant other than to take Inofolic. I've done a lot of reading up on PCOS diets and have since been cutting out dairy, gluten, potatoes, refined sugar and red meat as much as possible in the hope it will help with the quality of my eggs. I've been in Poland this weekend for a wedding and decided I would forget the diet while I was here. I've had an awesome time, I think it was exactly what I needed, but my stomach was not good because I was eating cheese, dough, pancakes, bread etc. Luckily I had some tablets to stop it being a huge issue but it does suggest that the diet is good for my body. Chocolate and cheese are my main weaknesses but I cut out as much as I can.

Pinktruffle · 27/05/2019 17:21

@seven201 I eat 3 full meals a day and snack a lot too (usually healthily on nuts, fruit etc). I only have full fat because I think it's generally better for you than stuff that has been tampered with and I only have a little. The only exception to that is semi skimmed milk because I hate the taste of milk and cant stomach full fat. I eat well with lots variety and fruit and veg, partly because in vegetarian. I think I just have a very good metabolism.

@marmite83 I've read a lot on PCOS diets too and there is contradictory evidence on a lot of things such as diary but they all unanimously say no to refined sugar, which is my weakness. I guess I'm going to have to keep it to a minimum. I need diary as it's the only animal fat I get so I couldn't cut it out, I also don't want to as I love cheese but my acupuncturist said diary is very important for me and recommended drinking a glass of full fat milk a day..... I haven't managed that as I hate the taste and cant think of a way to make it palatable that doesnt involve refined sugar. I have allowed myself high quality (low sugar) dark hot chocolate made with full fat milk as a medium though

Pinktruffle · 27/05/2019 17:25

I've just realised that was a bit contradictory in regards to the milk haha. I'm trying to make the switch to full fat for my hot chocolate and basically bought it and had it once yesterday. I still use semi skimmed for my tea and use oat or almond milk for my cereal.

doomkittycleo · 27/05/2019 22:46

@Pinktruffle, regarding milk with less sugar, could you not just make cocoa with plain cocoa powder as opposed to hot chocolate? Then you can just add a tiny bit of sugar if it needs it.

That’s what DP and I do if we’re avoiding refined sugar.

doomkittycleo · 27/05/2019 22:50

I’m on CD13 and no positive opk yet. Unfortunately I now have that throat infection that DD had and am on antibiotics, so not sure we’ll get any BDing in in the next few days. I’m full of a fever and am aching all over.

Plus DP has started with a slight sore throat, so he might have it too 😞.

Opk’s look a bit off positive yet, so maybe being ill will delay ovulation this cycle.

Not sure whether to give up now or keep going with the opk testing as I’m not sure we’ll be able to BD even if I do get a positive.

seven201 · 28/05/2019 09:05

@Pinktruffle what about looking into how much a one off consultation with a dietician would cost? You could ask for specific advice to help get your weight up and about the sugar.

@doomkittycleo I know this isn't a romantic idea but if your dh feels ok could you do the turkey baster method whilst you're ill? Obvs only if you get a positive opk!

doomkittycleo · 28/05/2019 09:55

@Seven201, 1 day into the antibiotics and the difference is amazing. It goes to show when used appropriately they are amazing things.

Opk is still negative, so I’m optimistic that Mother Nature is deliberately delaying ovulation to give me time to recover.

I guess she isn’t such a b*tch after all 😉.

seven201 · 28/05/2019 11:19

@doomkittycleo I'm pleased to hear that!

I've just had good news. Even though my opk never showed positive my progesterone blood test (that I begged the gp for) shows that I did! The lady in the office said it was 191. Anyone know what that means? I had it done on cd 24 and I think I ovulated day 19 ish maybe.

seven201 · 28/05/2019 11:47

Now I've just read this and am having a worry! I wasn't given a unit. The admin lady just said results were consistent with ovulation. I said does it give a number and she said 191. Maybe that's massively high?

doomkittycleo · 28/05/2019 13:10

@Seven201, is it possible to call your fertility Dr and ask them to clarify if it’s a worry or not?

seven201 · 28/05/2019 13:32

@doomkittycleo just after I post my last message I emailed my consultant. I asked if I should reduce to 50mg next cycle and if 191 was too high. His very short reply said when on my next cycle of 50mg arrange a scan between cd 10-14. No mention of how to arrange this scan (I last saw him
Privately but seeing him on nhs mid next month) or if it's too high etc. I guess it is though! I'm so glad I pushed for the blood test. Also, slightly freaking out that I could be pregnant with a billion babies stuck in my Fallopian tube!

doomkittycleo · 28/05/2019 13:51

He gave you his email address? Wow very privileged 😉.

I’d reply just asking how to go about arranging a scan and asking what the risks are of it being so high.

You do hear of people with high results and things being fine, so try not to panic.

seven201 · 28/05/2019 14:05

Thanks! That's reassuring to hear. He's replied saying just to call closest hospital. Upon me replying again asking which ones he works at on which days he's replied with a very varied list and they're all private, so I'm guess I'm paying for it! Oh well.

seven201 · 28/05/2019 14:36

He's just sent me an email asking if I've done a pregnancy test yet. Confused. I haven't, I was going to wait until the weekend as I hate negative tests.

Sorry for sharing everything. It's helping me deal with stress of potential multiples and a blocked tube!

AmyMaria2 · 28/05/2019 21:50

@seven201 have you had a hsg before, were your tubes clear then? I'm sure it will be okay xx

I'm due to have my tracking scan on Thursday, even though it's my second month of clomid this is my first scan, is it just the internal scan that uses the long white instrument? I don't think I have to drink a lot before I go so I assume it's internal?
Thanks xx

Jesskir89 · 28/05/2019 22:37

Wow that is high! Mine was 89 from 100mg of chlomid! You might get quadruplets! X

seven201 · 29/05/2019 08:51

@AmyMaria2 I had the HyCoSy scan earlier this year. Going to have it unblocked in a few months hopefully. One tube still ok.
Yes the white stick I assume. Dildo cam! I've not had a tracking scan so I don't actually know the answer for sure. I'm having one in a couple of weeks but don't have any details.

@Jesskir89 Shock at quadruplets!!! Luckily my period arrived this morning so I've dodged that bullet!
