August IVF

Hi there,

Anyone else doing IVF this month? I’ve had 2 weeks of Buserelin, and just started the oestrogen tablets today. I’ve never known time to go so slowly before. 😬😂

FET planned for end of August.

I’ve been a hormonal wreck. Got AF this weekend, plus all the extra hormones, and the other half doesn’t know what to do with me - or himself! Ha Ha.

Would be nice to connect with others going through IVF at the moment. x

@Shakti18 just to jump in, I've been told not to take ibuprofen once I start taking the injections - I'm on the short protocol so not down regging admittedly

Medication arriving today with me starting treatment when my period arrives - just waiting now Smile

Shakti18 · 22/08/2018 14:58

@CatRen27 Not been told anything about painkillers unfortunately :-(
@Thund4rcat What is Mefenamic Acid?
@IVFaugust2018 Thanks I'd rather be safe so will stay away from ibuprofen
Good job I joined the forum! Really good to learn from all of your experiences!

IVFaugust2018 · 22/08/2018 17:25

@Thund4rcat thanks for the info, I didn't think to ask why not to take ibuprofen I just nodded and agreed I wouldn't! Kicking myself now though as I was taking it all last week as having lots of caffeine withdrawal headaches and ovulated really late on day 20 (never been that late in 3 years tracking, typical!) so now although period had been predicted for yesterday it won't be before the weekend 😣 I'm desperate to just start already!

Thund4rcat · 22/08/2018 18:50

@shakti18 Mefenamic Acid is a painkiller NSAID (non steroidal anti inflammatory drug) similar to Ibuprofen that I've been on for about ten years for period pains.

Shaw81 · 23/08/2018 10:56

Hi all,
Thanks everyone for the good luck wishes!
So I had egg collection yesterday only got 1 egg. Totally gutted as I thought I would get at least 2 ... Had a horrible day yesterday, tried to keep positive but it's hard!
Then I've had a call first thing this morning to tell me that the egg has fertilized!!!! It's looking exactly how it should! So excited now.
Having it transferred on Saturday!

Just goes to show it does only take 1!
Xx

CatRen27 · 23/08/2018 11:10

Ohhh what a rollercoaster shaw! It certainly does just take one. Fingers and toes crossed that out develops well and you get your bfp. Do they plan to update you daily?

Shaw81 · 23/08/2018 11:23

I know! I'm exhausted and jumping about at the same time!
They have said they will only ring me on Saturday very early if anything goes wrong... So news is good news!
I have got to ring then though because that have given me pessaries to have 3 times a day but I forgot to ask if I've got to have it before implantation.

Thank you catren!

sophieb13 · 23/08/2018 11:36

Hi @Shaw81

So happy to hear you have a fertilised egg! I only have a few follicles myself and will know tomorrow morning if and when I will go down for egg collection!

Best of luck and fingers crossed for your BFP!

Xx

CatRen27 · 23/08/2018 12:34

Scan day for me tomorrow, I'm excited to find out whether all this pain means lots of follicles in there. I'm getting so far ahead of myself when i said I'd plan for the worst..!

Dh asked me today if he could drink. Like I'm the boss of his fertility. I told him in no uncertain terms to manage his sperm as I'm taking on the major load of all this and have done years of reading while ttc. And if he thinks going without for a day or two is hard then i don't want to hear it.. Seriously though at no point in my treatment plan is there mention of an orgasm! Yet this is his only contribution.. sorry, vent over..

Shakti18 · 23/08/2018 16:11

Thanks @Thund4rcat. Cramps have subsided today thankfully. I seem to want keep eating and that seems to work!
@Shaw81 Best of luck! Really happy to hear your news :-)
@CatRen27 Have a fab scan tomorrow. Good to vent out. Dh here has kept on drinking multiple cups of coffee. I am dying to down his cup as soon as he's out of the room. The only good thing he's doing at the moment is the 30mins ice pack to cool his bits!! Heavy head and tired is not really me!

IVFaugust2018 · 23/08/2018 16:23

@Shaw81 fingers crossed for Saturday 🤞

Cariad2017 · 23/08/2018 22:43

Amazing news on fertilisation Shaw. I shall be keeping everything crossed that it all goes swimmingly from here on in.

Good luck for your scan CatRen. I have my first scan in the morning and am pretty petrified. I’m feeling utterly exhausted today, but beyond that I still don’t have any other discernible symptoms and combined with the cyst found at my baseline scan and the spotting I had earlier this week, I’m scared they’re going to tell me that 6 days in it isn’t working and they need to abolish the cycle.

CatRen27 · 23/08/2018 23:43

Thanks shakti and cariad. Scan went well, i have 20 follicles on the right side and 23 on the left, so feeling a bit reassured that the drugs are working. I think that's quite a lot considering the technician's response but i guess it's quality not quantity that we're looking for. It certainly explains the pain. About to get my bloods done then have to wait for further instruction from the nurses later today.

Best of luck @cariad I hope it goes well in the morning for you and you're worries are all unfounded - must be so stressful having had a bumpy start.

CatRen27 · 24/08/2018 00:05

Hrmm just did some googling and I'm now worried about ohss! I'll ask the nurse this afternoon.. crap

CatRen27 · 24/08/2018 05:27

Me again! Nurse called, i have to go in for another scan and bloods tomorrow and I'll have to take my trigger shot tomorrow! Apparently Monday is collection day. So much sooner than i thought, I'm a bit taken aback. My consultant will need to decide which trigger to give me, which will determine whether it'll lead to a frozen or fresh cycle. It depends on my ohss risk. So we're seriously all systems go and I'm bricking it!

Cariad2017 · 24/08/2018 08:05

CatRen - that’s a huge number of follicles. No wonder you’ve been in pain. I shall be keeping everything crossed that tomorrow’s appointment goes swimmingly.

I can’t believe it’s all moving so quickly for you (I say this having just bundled DH and DS off to my parents for the long weekend, so I’m really hoping I don’t have to beckon DH back sooner as he’d be very unimpressed, particularly as getting there is a complete faff). I will be joining them if today’s appointment is a disaster and the cycle gets cancelled, otherwise I’m expecting more appointments between now and Monday, so need to stay near the clinic.

Cariad2017 · 24/08/2018 09:02

Had my scan. Still waiting for a blood test. Cyst is still there and she counted around 14 other potential follicles. One is around 10mm but the others are still smaller. She reckoned I had at least another week to go before egg collection.

Next scan on Monday. Not brilliant news (as nothing is guaranteed as yet), but after a bumpy start, it sounds as though we’re moving in the right direction.

Thund4rcat · 24/08/2018 12:09

Just wanted to share that I emailed my clinic about Mefenamic Acid and they told me I should not have taken it. I told them they should have told me this since I am prescribed it and my pharmacist told me it was fine. They said not to worry because I took it early in my cycle so it should not have affected things, just don't take any more.

Same would go for Ibuprofen they said.

Cariad2017 · 24/08/2018 18:45

Good luck for tomorrow CatRen and Shaw. I shall be rooting for you both. Here’s to good news all round. 🍀🤞🍀🤞🍀🤞

Cariad2017 · 24/08/2018 18:46

Hope you’re hanging on in there with your delayed ov Melissa. It must be unbelievably frustrating.

Cariad2017 · 24/08/2018 19:14

My scan has now been bumped to Tuesday (yawn) so they obviously don’t think I’m anywhere near being ready for collection.

IceIceMaybeBaby · 24/08/2018 21:20

Hello everyone!

I'm sorry to invade your chat but I'm afraid I've had a complete meltdown trying to create a new thread in the main forum! Keeps asking me to log in when I'm already logged in... Anyways! I have to say I am a complete newbie here and only created an account because I've been so overwhelmed by how lovely and supportive all the ladies here are. I have read a few threads over the past few days, but honestly I am gutted I never found you sooner. It's so fantastic to be able to share experiences and advise, so I hope you will welcome me in this lovely community. Smile I'm still getting to grips with the lingo but I'm sure I'll get there!

A bit about my journey so far.. I am 28, my husband and I have been TTC for about 2.5 years now without any success and every passing month has been a massive disappointment and added to the heartbreak. I don't want to make this a huge post so I'll skip to our treatment so far, which has been IVF with ICSI. I was put on an antagonist protocol, which was quite short.

  • started on Gonal F, dosage 300
  • on day 5 started Cetrotide as well and carried on until the trigger
  • had trigger injection on day 10
  • just had EC this Monday (still slightly bloated!)
  • currently on the lovely cyclogest pessaries and...
  • waiting for tomorrow morning for ET!!!

So, as I am writing I am constantly thinking at our cell babies (we're hoping for 3 at blast stage by the morning!) and whether everything is going to be ok tomorrow. I know the procedure is very easy (so I heard) but I am still so nervous!!

I suppose I wanted to write and see whether there's anyone else out there with a similar timing as myself and is, as me, a complete ball of nerves! Smile

Excited to chat with all of you and while I'm no expert, I'd be more than happy to answer any questions at all. Smile

In the meantime, I hope everyone is having a lovely Friday evening and sending hugs and love to all! xxx

Cariad2017 · 24/08/2018 21:49

Good luck tomorrow IceIce. I shall be keeping everything crossed that you have embryos to freeze as well as to implant.

Out of interest, how many eggs did they retrieve? How many fertilised? I still have all this to come (I’m a first time IVFer as well, albeit with secondary infertility), so am keen to know how others have fared.

Crazyeyes3 · 24/08/2018 22:03

Have now been injecting for 6 days and my legs are covered in bruises despite icing them beforehand. I have never had a needle phobia and was a regular blood donor but I really hate these injections!

IceIceMaybeBaby · 24/08/2018 22:24

Hey @Cariad! According to the nurses, I was responding well to the simulation mess and had something like 5 follicles on one side and 6 on the other. Altogether they extracted 10 follicles, which resulted in 5 eggs. I was so naive in thinking 1 follicle means 1 egg but no!

I was quite disappointed and started freaking out in the ward, as I could overhear what other had, and one lady had 18 retrieved! I felt like such a failure with just 5. But, the embryologist comes over and chats with you straight after. She was lovely and put both of us at ease, saying it's really about egg maturity and quality, rather than the amount. Story so far

  • 5 collected
  • 5 fertilised, 1 wasn't quite up to their criteria so they discarded it
Yesterday we found out we have 3 which went further with the right growth, and they said we got
  • 1 stage 2 with 9 cells
  • 1 stage 2 with 6 cells
  • 1 borderline stage 2-3 with 8 cells

Hopefully they're all well tomorrow! They wanted to wait until day 5 for us to allow the ones with less cells to get the opportunity to go to blast cell so they can maybe be frozen :)

Good luck with your treatment, are you injecting yet? It's so good to see how other people are getting on! Xx
