August IVF

Hi there,

Anyone else doing IVF this month? I’ve had 2 weeks of Buserelin, and just started the oestrogen tablets today. I’ve never known time to go so slowly before. 😬😂

FET planned for end of August.

I’ve been a hormonal wreck. Got AF this weekend, plus all the extra hormones, and the other half doesn’t know what to do with me - or himself! Ha Ha.

Would be nice to connect with others going through IVF at the moment. x

I know what you mean snowfee and Cariad2017 but I just couldn't keep it to myself! We are all quite close at work and with the job I do I can't risk not telling people.

So took my hopefully last injection last night, the
One you take 36 hours before egg collection. I have a bit of stomach ache this morning but hoping that that's normal?! Felt brilliant not having to do a 7am jab!
Just praying for some eggs tomorrow now 🤞

Shakti18 · 21/08/2018 08:37

Hi lovely ladies I'm on my 6th day of down reg'ing now and feeling very nervous about it all. It's our first time trying IVF. I am turning 39 next weekend and DH is turning 42 next month. It was a long journey to get here.

Does anyone know what happens after the down reg? We got meds and really big needles for menopur but not too sure what that means.

@Cariad2017: I went for accupuncture on Saturday and felt a lot better from headache and exhaustion. Hope you feel better soon!

snowfee · 21/08/2018 11:29

@Shakti18 first time ivfer here too so not 100% sure of the med process but I was told by my clinic not to worry about all the other drugs delivered yet. They said they would go through the next steps and how to do the next injections when I go in for my baseline scan (2 weeks after starting burserlin). Yours may be similar

Shaw81 · 21/08/2018 11:51

Hi Shakti18,
Don't worry about the big needle that one is to draw up the liquid to put the powder in.
I didn't have any side effects of the menopur but I think some women get a funny feeling down there as though things are going on.... I didn't but I haven't got many eggs so I wished I had! But then again it only takes 1!

Try not to worry about the other injections now, none of them are bad. With my down reg injections I felt tired and had a few hot flushes after about a week but that's all.

Hope you go on ok
Lisa X

Hi,

I'm currently on day 8 of menopur injections! Had some negative news today at scan as only 5 follicles showing :( trying to stay positive and holding out for better news at my scan on Friday!

Hope you get your BFP!

X

Shaw81 · 21/08/2018 16:15

Hi, user1485101301,

Try not too be too disappointed I know how you feel as I was told I only had 3! But since going again they have said that I have 2 really big ones and a few little ones.. no where near what I was hoping for!
But they had a woman a couple of weeks ago who had 3 and is now pregnant!!
So try to be positive
Sending you hugs xx

I'm having a natural FET, no mess just following my ovulation so waiting on the smiley face to appear in my ov clear blue test kit, so far nothing on the digital kit and it was meant to be today. 6 days from ovulation smiley face we'll have our little frosty implanted.

This has been my first cycle, most challenging and emotional time of my life xx

melissa1215 · 21/08/2018 17:47

That meant to say meds not mess**

margasid1 · 21/08/2018 20:23

Hi All,
I am starting next week. first meds- Progynova. I received all meds today. Its amazing how long those needles are :(.
It hits home when medication arrives don't you think?

Sorry bit late back to the thread

@Snowfee its tricky isn't it with work. The monitoring is fine for me as i work from home as a consultant so don't have anyone checking my comings and goings. I'm a bit worried about the recovery time after egg collection though as i still have work to be done and definitely can't tell any of my clients what I'm up to as they'll a) not care much and b) possibly look to replace me on my jobs if I'm likely to be preggers at some point. So probably need to get all my work done before then.. argh!

Good luck with the egg collection @shaw! Hope you get loads and don't feel too bad afterwards.

@cariad i know what you mean, I've told quite a few friends and while i don't mind them knowing the outcome I'm a bit less comfortable with dhs parents. I wasn't going to tell them but then they asked directly if I'd started and we weren't prepared with an answer! I don't want Sil knowing but that's a whole other issue.

Good luck @user I hope they're all of great quality

CatRen27 · 22/08/2018 00:11

Hi @melissa how does the natural cycle work? Did you have your meds and egg collection last month? Its so daunting isn't it

@margasid1 yeah it does hit home, i collected mine from the clinic so getting the bus home with two bags of injections was really surreal!

I'm now on my 6th day of jabs, started cetrotide yesterday and that caused a swollen red area which was really itchy and the needle was a bit more painful too. Today i took paracetamol half an hour before jabs and it made a huge difference to the discomfort. I also put a cold press on afterwards and that helped the swelling. It's a learning process!

Anyone else having ovary pains? I am in low level pain the whole time with some sharp pains every now and then. I can't really pick up and carry my 3yo which is causing her to be particularly clingy which is kind of annoying!

CatRen27 · 22/08/2018 00:56

Omg this phone is a nightmare, i had enormous spaces between paragraphs there.. sorry ladies

Cariad2017 · 22/08/2018 07:40

CatRen - Being self employed whilst going through IVF must be tough. I shall be keeping everything crossed that you get your sticky BFP at the end of this, so that you don’t have to go through this again.

Day 5 of stims at this end (although only 4 injections so far as I take them late at night) and apart from the spotting and period pain type cramps for the first couple of days, I’ve had no discernible symptoms.

CatRen - if it’s any consolation, a friend ended up with so much ov pain that she couldn’t pick up he DS during week 2 of stims. She ended up with 14 eggs being collected, 5 of which made it to blastocyst stage, and got a BFP, so you never know, this could be a very positive sign.

Cariad2017 · 22/08/2018 07:44

Good luck today Shaw.. I shall be thinking of you. I hope it all goes swimmingly and they manage to retrieve some good quality eggs. 🤞🍀🤞🍀

melissa1215 · 22/08/2018 07:46

@CatRen27 hi! I was on short cycle ivf throughout May/June, I had meriofert and certerotide (apologies for poor spelling) and my body didn't respond as quickly as they hoped, they gave me two days worth of extra meds and changed my trigger to gonasi and I had egg collection at the end of June.

I had very bad OHSS, turns out the extra meds over stimulated me and my body was doing just fine at the pace it was going Confused

Had our Frosties fertilised then frozen because I was really poorly with the OHSS.

Had to wait for a withdrawal bleed then a regular period and I'm now tracking my peak ovulation day with clear blue kits so when I ovulate, 6 days from then we'll have our embryo transferred. At this point I'm completely free of any medication and just taking my vitimans Smile

They didn't want to use medication in the hope that I'll ovulate myself and the embryo will settle and follow my body's natural way as if I'd naturally gotten pregnant, if that makes any sense.

(Though I'm not ovulating as yet and should be so lord knows when it will happen or what happens next if I don't haha)

Xx

Cariad2017 · 22/08/2018 07:46

Shakti - Glad to hear the acupuncture helped ease your symptoms. I have a session today! When are you expecting AF?

Cariad2017 · 22/08/2018 07:53

Melissa - that’s really interesting re: natural cycles, but sorry to hear about your OHSS - it sounds utterly grim. I really hope you get your opk smiley face soon - these things always seem to take their time when we’re desperate for them to happen.

My body never seems to follow the normal pattern of things when it comes to fertility (and I’m utterly petrified of my day 6 scan this Friday as a result), but it’s useful to know that they are willing to try other things if your body doesn’t end up responding as pedicted.

Cariad2017 · 22/08/2018 07:55

As predicted! 😳

melissa1215 · 22/08/2018 07:58

@Cariad2017 oh it was horrible, I kind of felt like they keep a lot of the side effects of the medication quiet.. I was not prepared for so many symptoms and then the OHSS but finally feel normal, not my usual normal but the most normal I've felt in months haha! It's just a waiting game now, that's been the hardest part

margasid1 · 22/08/2018 09:34

Can you tell me more about OHSS and symptoms please? I’m starting my journey next week. It looks like many women bodies react with OHSS :( I’m starting feeling the pressure xx

Shakti18 · 22/08/2018 10:58

Wow so much to catch up after a day :-)

@snowfee that's right my baseline scan is hopefully next week before can start the menospur. what injections are you taking?
@Shaw81 that's good to know thank you! Good luck with egg collection :-)
@Cariad2017 AF is due this weekend. Really nervous about the scan before I start the menospur. How was your accupuncture session?
@melissa1215 Good luck :-) can you tell us more about OHSS? Also a bit worried about it.
@CatRen27: On my 6th day of down reg and definitely feel something hurting down there since last night. I've just taken ibuprofen - have you tried?

melissa1215 · 22/08/2018 11:15

@margasid1 hi, mine started towards the end of my injections and got really bad before the egg collection I had severe diohrea (sorry for spelling) and couldn't keep food down, severe cramps and really bad bloating. This continued after the Egg collection to the point where i was throwing up and really so badly bloated It hurt to move and lie down :( they couldn't do the transfer as they said I'd likely miscarry due to the state I was in and my ovaries needed to recover

I don't know if I was just unlucky as it's my first cycle but I did find I didn't get told anything of the mild symptoms only the serious ones.

Wouldn't wish it on anyone

CatRen27 · 22/08/2018 11:39

Hey @shakti yes I've been taking paracetamol but not ibuprofen as i was told not to by the clinic - is that the advice you've been given?

Thund4rcat · 22/08/2018 13:28

Re Ibuprofen, I take mefenamic acid for period pains and both these drugs work in a similar way as NSAIDs. They can reduce chance of ovulation but if you are taking them only when you are on your period that won't affect it. My pharmacist told me I was OK to take Mefenamic Acid whilst on Buserelin.

If you are down regging then I think Ibuprofen would be fine but would not take it once you start stims as that's when you're growing eggs.

Did your clinic specify when you should not take it or was it general advice?

CatRen27 · 22/08/2018 13:31

@thund4rcat the advice i had was for stims only as i haven't done down regging, just started gonal f on day 1 of cycle. Sounds like the right advice though re ovulation
