August IVF

Hi there,

Anyone else doing IVF this month? I’ve had 2 weeks of Buserelin, and just started the oestrogen tablets today. I’ve never known time to go so slowly before. 😬😂

FET planned for end of August.

I’ve been a hormonal wreck. Got AF this weekend, plus all the extra hormones, and the other half doesn’t know what to do with me - or himself! Ha Ha.

Would be nice to connect with others going through IVF at the moment. x

Hi @Cariad2017 it was Buserelin and I don't actually think it does so maybe I'll just do a test tomorrow to satisfy myself that's it's negative. I don't trust any symptoms I have, I've learned that my body lies to me over the last few years 😂 I'll believe it when it's on a test and probably not even then! Good luck for your call anyway x

@CatRen27 it makes sense now you've said that!

Cariad2017 · 10/09/2018 10:44

Just got a call from the lab and none of the other four embryos have progressed overnight, and are now all showing signed of cell degeneration. The embryologist explained that typically only a third of fertilised eggs make it to blastocyst so 2 out of 6 in my case is in line with that statistic. Really hoping our current embryo makes it as otherwise I suspect we’ll be back doing another round of IVF soon...

Cariad2017 · 10/09/2018 10:45

signs not signed!

IVFaugust2018 · 10/09/2018 12:10

Hi @Cariad2017 I've got the same figures as you, 3 out of 9 have made it to blastocyst so one will be transferred this aft and 2 will be frozen. They said that they're going to watch some of the slower growers overnight to see if they can freeze any of them from tomorrow but not really to expect anything as it'll be a bonus if they do.

I've got 3 grade 4BB blasts today which I'm over the moon about. Now just need to calm and focus myself on not being to hopeful for the next few weeks 😱

IVFaugust2018 · 10/09/2018 12:38

Hi @Cariad2017 what's the test date that your clinic gave you? Mine's 23rd x

Thund4rcat · 10/09/2018 12:41

Just had my egg collection... They got 11 eggs which I am pleased about. The procedure was surprisingly painful to be honest. I'm fine now though.

Cariad2017 · 10/09/2018 13:02

IVFAugust - To have 3 x 4BBs on day 5 is brilliant. You must be delighted. The test date given to me by my clinic is 14 days from egg collection so a week on Tuesday (18 September) - I can’t believe yours is so much later (although I guess that might avoid early cps)

Amazing news getting 11 eggs Thund4rcat. Sorry to hear you were in pain though. Did you have general anesthetiser or did they do the procedure under sedation instead?

Thund4rcat · 10/09/2018 14:28

@cariad2017 thanks! Just sedation, plus diazepam because I was panicking before, plus paracetamol. Then after they gave me co-dydramol because I was in pain, once that kicked in I was fine.

Thund4rcat · 10/09/2018 14:29

Also there was nothing in my paperwork about baths, so I asked about it and was told not to take a bath after egg collection (until when I am not sure, so avoiding until told otherwise!).

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 10/09/2018 16:16

Had my EC this morning it went fine, back home now and not really in any pain.
So they collected.....28 EGGS!! No wonder I was feeling bloated.
Anything above 25 eggs the automatically say you have to freeze your eggs for this cycle and do a FET on my next cycle as I am at a really high risk of OHSS.
So I've been signed off for the week, all I'm aloud to do is drink water and my exercise is walking to and from the toilet. I have a scan on Weds and Friday for them to check me.
I can not lie I am devastated to not be able to do a fresh transfer this cycle as I was so excited to finally getting there, so the thought of having to freeze and then wait is so annoying it always feel like your waiting! So we are on the 5 day wait to see if the eggs fertilse and see if any make it to day 5!

IVFaugust2018 · 10/09/2018 16:29

Sorry to hear about the others @Cariad2017 but hopefully you won't need anything in the freezer anyway 🤞

@Thund4rcat well done - 11 is great, you must be so pleased! Really hope you have a good fertilisation rate tonight 🍀 I found the egg collection really painful too, I was knocked out for the procedure but took codeine throughout the afternoon and evening to be able to cope. Woke up perfectly fine the next day x

IVFaugust2018 · 10/09/2018 16:31

Wow just caught your post @PostiveThinkingRainbow you must be exhausted 😱 really hope you have a good fertilisation rate and recover quickly for your FET xx

Cariad2017 · 10/09/2018 19:27

That’s a huge crop of eggs Positive. Wishing you a super speedy recovery. Here’s hoping you get good news tomorrow on the fertilisation rates. It’s frustrating not to be able to do a fresh cycle, but giving your body a chance to recover sounds eminently sensible. 🍀🍀🍀

Thund4rcat · 11/09/2018 01:06

@PositiveThinkimgRainbow how are you feeling now? Great you were in no pain after. That is an incredible number of eggs. It must suck to have to delay ET but hopefully you'll get lots of backup embryos with that number of eggs to begin with.

I am in a lot of pain right now, woke up from it and took more paracetamol. ;( Hope it subsides tomorrow.

Thund4rcat · 11/09/2018 07:16

That was meant to be sad face not winky face! Still in pain and feeling sick. Was not expecting this.

IVFaugust2018 · 11/09/2018 07:35

Hi @Thund4rcat sorry to hear you're not feeling well - see how you go but maybe speak to your clinic? The risk of OHSS is very present around EC, feeling sick was one of the main symptoms I experienced xx

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 11/09/2018 09:01

@thund4rcat how are you feeling today?

I am soooo bloated I honestly look pregnant! I do not feel poorly just like I have eaten 3 roast dinners.
I was given cabergoline to help prevent the OHSS developing, did they give the same to you?

I'm just nervously waiting for the clinic to call to say if any of our eggs fertilized last night.

Thund4rcat · 11/09/2018 09:35

@positivethinkingrainbow still feel sick and actually vomited an hour ago :(

Going to tell the clinic about it when they call to say how many fertilised... Expecting a call before 11am!

They didn't give me anything for OHSS, I guess my previous blood tests weren't a concern to them.

Sorry to hear you are so bloated, must be uncomfortable.

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 11/09/2018 09:51

@thund4rcat google the main symptoms, my clinic gave me loads of info but I guess it's because they knew I was going to be a high risk.
Being sick is a sign so definitely tell them as it can get serious! That's why I have to go in tomorrow and Friday for scans so they can monitor me.

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 11/09/2018 09:55

The clinic just called to say that 18 out of the 28 eggs have fertilised, so fingers crossed that some of them make it to say 5! IVF should be called the waiting game.....!

Thund4rcat · 11/09/2018 11:49

@positivethinkingrainbow wow, 18 is huge! So exciting.

I feel quite a bit better now but am staying in bed anyway. I spoke to the clinic and they didn't seem too worried unless it gets worse, they said it's probably the antibiotics making me feel sick. And that today will be the worst day.

IVFaugust2018 · 11/09/2018 17:55

@PostiveThinkingRainbow 18 fertilised is amazing news! You must be over the moon

@Thund4rcat hope you feel better soon love

@Cariad2017 hope you're okay, we've got a bit a wait ahead if today's anything to go by on my part 😂 had a call from the clinic about the other embryos that they were observing to say none are suitable for freezing - but I feel lucky to have had any to freeze as it is

Cariad2017 · 11/09/2018 17:59

18 fertilised eggs is brilliant Positive. That’s three times the number I had! 😂 You must be over the moon! Wishing you a super speedy recovery from OHSS.

Sorry you’re feeling so ropey Thund4rCat - How were your eggs doing today? Did you get an update on fertilisation? I hope you feel better soon. Xxx

Cariad2017 · 11/09/2018 18:04

IVFAugust - Absolutely! I keep analysing literally every twinge. I had rib pain this morning so started googling that furiously! DH is also adamant that I’m not allowed to test until next Tuesday (which feels like a lifetime away), although I suspect I’ll have driven myself crazy on the symptom spotting front by then! 🤯 Look after yourself my lovely. It’s brilliant news that you have two good quality Frosties in the freezer even if the others didn’t make it.

Thund4rcat · 11/09/2018 18:21

@cariad2017 oh yes I forgot to say! They said 9 of my 11 retrieved eggs were suitable to inject the sperm, and of those 9, 8 successfully fertilised. Quite pleased with that. So planning for day 5 transfer, on Saturday, as long as one looks like it will survive that long. If not looking good, it'll be Thursday and I won't find that out until Thurs morning.

It must be really hard for you not to test before official test day Cariad. That time must be the most stressful bit!

Question...I know overall chances of ICSI success are about 30% but does anyone know how much your chances go up at each stage? Like once you get to transfer stage surely you've passed some of the risks of it failing by then, and success from each progressive point would be higher?
