August IVF

Hi there,

Anyone else doing IVF this month? I’ve had 2 weeks of Buserelin, and just started the oestrogen tablets today. I’ve never known time to go so slowly before. 😬😂

FET planned for end of August.

I’ve been a hormonal wreck. Got AF this weekend, plus all the extra hormones, and the other half doesn’t know what to do with me - or himself! Ha Ha.

Would be nice to connect with others going through IVF at the moment. x

Hi @sophieb19 how are you getting on? Can't remember where you are in the process 🙂

sophieb13 · 06/09/2018 23:03

@CatRen27 I'm on 4dp3dt it already feels like such a long time since the transfer! I'm still in slight discomfort from ec and definitely having some progesterone side effects! Wish I found out during this wait if the other embryo that had made it to 8 cell was able to be frozen but I won't find out until after! I think it would take some of the pressure off as DH is acting like we're already having a baby. How are you doing?

CatRen27 · 07/09/2018 01:58

Wow @sophieb! God the wait must be excruciating. When are you due to test? Can't believe they haven't told you whether you have one in the freezer! What's the reasoning behind that? I can definitely see how it could take the pressure off this one. Bless your dh, he must be excited. Fingers crossed!!

I've just made the transfer of the cycle fees.. just over £7200.. ouch! Thankfully I'll get half of it back through medicare (I'm in Australia) but the up front costs hurt a bit!

CatRen27 · 07/09/2018 07:10

Anyone bored of my 'will they won't they' screening results chat? Lol well my update is that the screening is done, we have 5 chromosomally normal blasts, the other 5 had random chromosome issues. It's apparently nothing to worry about, they say 50% duds is a pretty normal rate. Seems high to me (!) but there you are. So we're GOOD TO GO for a transfer this cycle. Woohoo!

Cariad2017 · 07/09/2018 07:25

CatRen - Having 5 normal blasts in the freezer sounds amazing, and it’s also made me think that if we end up with any Frosties (which from this cycle is far from guaranteed), PGS is definitely the way to go.

Today is D-day in terms of finding our whether we will do a 3 or 5 day transfer. Expecting a call from the embryologist in the next couple of hours and feeling pretty nervous about it all. What is particularly unhelpful is that as I go on holiday on Monday, I have a ton of handover to do today at work, so if we end up with a 3dt today, I’m going to end up working most of the weekend, which is less than ideal.

Langpants · 07/09/2018 08:39

Hi everyone.

Thanks for all your support. My first round of IVF has failed. I'm stopping all medication and the clinic will call me middle of next week to discuss next steps.

Good luck to all of you on your IVF journeys. I expect I'll be back on here soon. X

Oh Langpants I'm sorry. I really hope the clinic have some answers for you and it brings you some peace before you start again xx

CatRen27 · 07/09/2018 09:06

I'm so sorry to hear it @langpants, take care of yourself, sending virtual hugs your way 💐

Cariad2017 · 07/09/2018 09:07

Oh Langpants - I am so so sorry, particularly after all you’ve been through in the last few months and years. Life can be unbelievably cruel at times. If I were you, I would cry, get riotously drunk (ideally on champagne), book a holiday, buy some fabulous clothes and then regroup. Sending enormous hugs your way. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Cariad2017 · 07/09/2018 09:10

An update from me (and I honestly don’t mean for this to come across as insensitive after LangPants’s very sad news). We’re still in the game. All 6 embryos that fertilised are top quality on day 3, so we’re now aiming for a 5 day transfer on Sunday (which for all manner of reasons works better in any event). Keen not to count my chickens at this stage, not least as I know that statistically, you can lose a good 50% of embryos between days 3 and 5, so we’ll see...

CatRen27 · 07/09/2018 09:16

Hey @cariad that's great news, sounds like the timing is definitely on your favour. Is your clinic ok with you traveling during your cycle? I had to postpone my treatment until after my recent holiday - so annoying! Sending your little embryos lots of positive vibes 🤞🤞

Thund4rcat · 07/09/2018 09:34

@Langpants so sorry to hear this. It must be very upsetting. It's good you are already looking towards next steps and potentially future rounds.

@Cariad that is great you are continuing to day 5. Good luck!

Cariad2017 · 07/09/2018 09:44

CatRen - That’s an interesting question, but realistically as I’m pretty low risk for OHSS, I’m hopeful travel shouldn’t be an issue. I’ve definitely mentioned it to my clinic, and they’ve never said anything. I’m also mindful that lots of people in the UK go abroad for IVF, and I suspect most will travel home long before they get their BFP.

snowfee · 07/09/2018 09:56

In the waiting room of the clinic for my Day 10 scan. Slightly crapping myself, I've had hardly any side effects. Fretting that that means nothing's happening and it's going to be a bad outcome.

snowfee · 07/09/2018 10:19

Scan done. Got 8 follicles a couple at 17mm the rest around 11mm so continuing with menopur and rescanning Monday.
8 follicles seem low, should I be worried?

IVFaugust2018 · 07/09/2018 10:39

Hi @snowfee definitely not, relax!

I was told at my first scan that there were 3 decent size and maybe a couple more would catch up - 2 days later they couldn't count them and thought I had developed OHSS and they needed to trigger me.

Your scans will likely change as will the news they give, I was told at the second scan that some of the follicles were hidden so hasn't been charted at the first scan - it appears that this whole thing is not an exact science and all the experts can do is react. It's a pain as it's so hard not to worry and constantly run through what it all means, but ultimately for some cycles a top grade blastocyst doesn't implant and for others a dodgy day 1 transfer will 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, I understand your worries but I don't believe your scan today was bad news x

IVFaugust2018 · 07/09/2018 10:40

@snowfee have a great weekend and good luck for the rescan Monday 🍀🍀🍀

Langpants · 07/09/2018 10:41

Thanks so much ladies. You rock. I have some bubbly in the fridge and having my hair done this afternoon. Xx

Shaw81 · 07/09/2018 11:21

Hi all my first IVF failed too. It really is the worst but just great full that I have another go!

Thund4rcat · 07/09/2018 11:25

@snowfee that sounds fine for your scan. It can go up or down yet so don't worry.

I just had my day 11 scan and my follicles have gone down from 17, to 10 "mature" and 3 "immature", not sure of sizes... so egg collection is going ahead on Monday.

They also found a cervical polyp and said it may cause problems getting the tube in to do the transfer, and cause spotting, but won't harm any developing foetus. So am not too worried about that.

Thund4rcat · 07/09/2018 11:26

@shaw81 sorry i posted before i saw your posr. So sorry to hear this. Glad you are feeling like you can do it again.

PostiveThinkingRainbow · 07/09/2018 12:43

Hello Ladies,
Had my third scan today I felt there was good and bad news.
My follicles have grown a little further, so they have decided I will do the trigger on Saturday and go for egg collection on Monday.
The nurse who did the scan who was lovely said that I had fluid in my uterus which is caused by having so many follicles due to my PCOS, she also said to prepare myself that it is likely I might have to freeze any eggs this cycle as she thinks I am at a really high risk of OHSS from what she can see.
They have taken my blood again to test my oestrogen levels and will call me this afternoon with the results which will give us a better idea.
She did say that is worst case and things might change, it just all depends on my oestrogen levels.
She also said I should take sometime off after EC as OHSS develops worse in people who are not resting, oh the joy!!!
Also I have started to feel abit sicky and light headed which could be a sign of OHSS, but I am not sure if its my mind playing tricks on me as lets face it the whole thing is blimin emotional roller coaster.
So thats where I am at.

Cariad2017 · 07/09/2018 12:44

Shaw - I’m so sorry to hear your cycle ended in a BFN. I hope you manage to get riotously drunk and go on a shopping mission to cheer yourself up. Glad to hear you have another shot - wishing you loads of luck for that.

SnowFee - I think IVFAugust has some really good advice on not sweating the follicle count. I had around 10 on most of my scans and come egg collection there were actually quite a few more, so you never know. I hope you manage to distract yourself over the weekend.

Good luck for egg collection on Monday. It sounds as though it’s all going well for you so far. I’ll be keeping everything crossed for you. 🍀🍀🍀
