BFP after IVF: any other nervous ladies in need of a handhold?

I've had my BFP after our first FET and in a bit of a state analysing symptoms/lack of symptoms. Had two losses prior to starting IVF so really can't get my head round what might be normal or not. Clinic will scan me at six weeks, but that is two very long weeks away! Anyone else in a similar position? xxx

*let us know

physicskate · 18/07/2018 18:45

@Beherenow32 I was told at my six week scan to phone. I've got my first appointment just before 8 weeks. Next scan is at 9 weeks and then I'm discharged from fertility clinic (hopefully!!). Then I'm fully over to antenatal care. They said it's important for me to have overlap as I need continuity with some meds (for blood thinning and thyroid).

TheArtfulScreamer · 18/07/2018 18:53

@Behere I wasn't sure when to book in either but I thought as the booking in appt is usually around 8 weeks if I left it until after my scan I might not get in so I gave the midwives a ring last week to ask their advice and they've booked me in for the week after my scan.

Beherenow32 · 18/07/2018 18:54

Maybe I’ll just phone to ask for advice then. Thanks!
Just worked 10 hours. Exhausted 😴 hope you’re all well xx

Itonlytakesone · 18/07/2018 19:16

Oh maybe i should book in too? Where are midwives based Iv no idea about any of this. I told my doctors yesterday but only to get another sick note (thinking i need to relax now after ivf treatment!!) The Doctor didn't do anything to do with my pregnancy. I'm only 5 weeks but have a scan second week of August. Feel I'd be jumping the gun if i called midwife before being discharged not sure what to do. Are they based at the preferred hospital of your choice?

Beherenow32 · 18/07/2018 19:26

@Itonlytakesone i was going to phone the gp to get the phone number. I also told the gp when getting signed off, and they said to ask the fertility clinic.
Think getting booked in after the scan like @TheArtfulScreamer could be an idea.
My work already know, and I’ll be doing my risk assessment sooner. (I do have an active job.... but not sure what they can do about that!).
Let me know what you decide to do re. The midwife xx

TheArtfulScreamer · 18/07/2018 19:28

In my area you self refer I just googled midwives at the hospital I'll give birth at and it came up with either a telephone number or email add so I gave them a ring and they booked to see me at my local health centre.

Itonlytakesone · 18/07/2018 19:38

Thanks 👍🏻
Iv Googled the hospital I'm going to be heading to and there's a number, you can self refer so I going to call to book in for after my scan at my fertility clinic so i can get a good appointment. Wouldn't have know to do this so thanks! @TheArtfulScreamer @physicskate

@Beherenow32 I have an active job too. Iv been signed off for 9 weeks now so far including all the treatment which is no problem luckily. This is so important I'm doing what best for me.

How many scans do you actually get normally? Are we getting a sneak preview because we are ivf?

Beherenow32 · 18/07/2018 19:45

@TheArtfulScreamer thanks. Will look into that too then

@Itonlytakesone that’s good that you’re taking time off.
I took 3 weeks off. And now I’m back wish I took longer off. I kind of wanted to get back to normal. But I’m so tired today, and have another 10 hours tomorrow... ☹️ Xx

Beherenow32 · 18/07/2018 19:45

Oh and I think on the nhs, people just get a scan at 12 and 20 weeks. If they want an earlier one, need to pay private xx

Itonlytakesone · 18/07/2018 19:57

@Beherenow32
Well if it gets too much just go back to the Gp, mine was more than happy to sign me off for as long as i wanted. 10 hour days seem a bit long when you're so newly pregnant? I was exhausted just going to a christening on Saturday, although I feel much better now think the second week of 2ww was the most tiring so far.

ginandtonicformeplease · 18/07/2018 19:58

I called the GP about self-referral to a midwife (we don't have a local hospital, nearest is about 20 miles away and second worst in the country so I was hoping there was alternative!) but apparently I have to go to see a healthcare assistant at the GP practice who will then refer me on to the midwife for booking in....seems a colossal waste of time, especially as the receptionist wanted to get me in to see the HCA asap so I'm going there before my 7 week scan.

Beherenow32 · 18/07/2018 20:32

Just found the number online. They say to get an appointment between 8-10 weeks. So, I may just wait until after the 7 weeks scan.
Feel like I have a sore throat. Really hope it doesn’t come to anything 😩 xx

Itonlytakesone · 18/07/2018 21:35

@Beherenow32 I hope it doesn't either. Your body has been through quite a bit don't forget. Take all the rest you can get.

@ginandtonicformeplease so what will they do at your appointment if it's before the 7 week scan?

ginandtonicformeplease · 18/07/2018 22:38

@Itonlytakesone I've absolutely no idea, register me as pregnant and then refer me to the midwife for the actual booking in session I think. I'm sure the healthcare assistant is very nice, but I'm not sure what the point of going to see her is. Seems to be the only way to be referred to a midwife though, and the receptionist was adamant that I go ASAP - can only presume the referral can take quite a while.

ginandtonicformeplease · 18/07/2018 23:11

Has anyone else looked at the March pregnancy thread and felt that they just don't belong there? I'm not sure whether it's because IVF takes so much out of you....or because I'm a bit jealous that someone's thinking of doing an Ironman and my clinic has told me not even to do yoga for the first trimester (despite recommending it for the 2WW Confused)? I'm paranoid and worried rather than thrilled and excited, but maybe that's just me.

physicskate · 19/07/2018 06:55

@ginandtonicformeplease I felt the same way... I think I'm still grieving that it's been so shit for the last two and a half years... They aren't. Which is great, but I just can't relate. They're all talking about early scans etc... and while I'm glad I get mine, I hate the reason why!!! I also hate there's no explanation for why this worked and nothing else did.

Beherenow32 · 19/07/2018 10:11

I did comment on the one in the antenatal threads, looking for some reassurance with my symptoms. But not going to carry on there. Tbh, I’m not jealous. (Think I’ve just accepted this is my life) I couldn’t relate to them. While some people were really nice, hardly anyone replied to mine, and I think bk it shows that the anxiety isn’t the same.

Last night and this morning I thought I felt a bit sicky. Now it’s gone and the anxiety is creeping back. I’m 6 weeks tomorrow...
Hope everyone else is coping ok xx

Itonlytakesone · 19/07/2018 10:21

Iv had a quick read over the other pregnancy chat but much prefer this one as i need chat in the ivf area which obviously you all know and understand about. Read one comment about falling pregnant after one month of trying on honeymoon then thought...I'v read enough! I had my wedding already booked but was told i had to do ivf now or I'll miss my chance because my reserve was so low! Extra guest (or 2😬) at my wedding i guessSmile

Why is it we need early scans with ivf? I'm glad we get one it's not too long to wait then.

Iv been having a pain in what feels like my left ovary thinking it's still trying to calm down from the stimulation

Beherenow32 · 19/07/2018 12:47

@Itonlytakesone I know. It’s completely unfair, and would usually get me down. But I just try not to think about it.
I heard that when you’re pregnant, the ovaries release hormones and get bigger. That could be causing us the pain? Xx

ginandtonicformeplease · 19/07/2018 13:48

@Itonlytakesone @Beherenow32 It's more the way that I'm constantly worrying about every twinge I have, rather than jealousy at a honeymoon baby (I would've been freaked if that had happened to me!). I'm trying not to use Dr Google too much, but every little ache and pain has me panicking about seeing blood when I go to the toilet.

Acupuncture later today - hopefully that will calm me down!

Itonlytakesone · 19/07/2018 14:19

@ginandtonicformeplease @Beherenow32
I know I'm the same, because my eggs were not top quality I'm petrified of every twinge. Check every time i go loo worry about miscarriage even though i know i need to relax it's hard to. Just keeping my diet good and hoping for the best.

Heard that too about the ovaries. Think because i got pregnant they'll take more time to recover from their ordeal than if i hadn't Smile embryo apparently is the size of a sesame seed and doubles in size on week 5

Beherenow32 · 19/07/2018 18:36

Is anyone else getting sharp pains down below? 😯 only last a second. But been a few times x

physicskate · 19/07/2018 18:48

I had a really really sharp pain with a sneeze yesterday (sneezing a lot cause my snot has gone all thick). I even cried out and it lasted about 30 seconds. I'm still scared something happened...

Itonlytakesone · 19/07/2018 18:57

@Beherenow32
Yes iam, walked to the shop but my stomach was aching so had to come home & i couldn't get comfy in any of my clothes today. Get in my pjs earlier every night! I'm going with what my body wants me to do at the moment I'm thinking it's the uterus expanding? It must come in waves because Iv felt fine since Saturday then all of a sudden felt rubbish again today.

Did you get offered to buy a usb time lapse video of your embryos? (Only 22 seconds long) I called hospital about buying it today, they said they keep them for 2 years so people usually buy if you have a live birth so I'll probably wait and see for now!
