BFP after IVF: any other nervous ladies in need of a handhold?

I've had my BFP after our first FET and in a bit of a state analysing symptoms/lack of symptoms. Had two losses prior to starting IVF so really can't get my head round what might be normal or not. Clinic will scan me at six weeks, but that is two very long weeks away! Anyone else in a similar position? xxx

@janefx40, fingers crossed for you today.

@barcelo, happy 10 weeks! I've forgotten, have you got a scan booked already?

@rainlake, congrats and welcome! How are you feeling? I had an early scan as I'd had an ectopic previously. Some clinics want to do an early beta to check doubling time, whilst others wait a bit longer for a scan (6-7 weeks) as you can't se much before then.

How's everyone else getting on? Becky have you used your Doppler again?

Bruges how's the nausea?

Hobbes, how is the spotting? Is your scan today?

Dame, sorry your doctor's got no bedside manner but at least you can calibrate for that. How often are you feeling your boy move??

Rational, hope you're still feeling more human! I am too, nausea is still here but less constant. Feels fab.

I massively, massively constipated, haven't had a proper poo in days Confused Tried everything I can think of but no success. Planning to skip my prenatal vitamin for the next couple of days to see if the iron might be making it worse. Anyone else have any tips?

Sending good thoughts to all and apologies if I've left anyone out.

@wombats hi 👋🏻 not gonna lie it's been a terrible week this end. I had terrible sickness Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and I had to work 12 hour shifts through it. Wednesday and Yesterday I have been ridiculously tired, unmanageably so. On Thursday I thought I would try to cheer myself up and use the Doppler but could find heartbeat 💗 wasn't worried because I know this can happen sometimes but thought I would try again yesterday, still couldn't find it, and then I used it trying to stand up and as I did this watery brown liquid once again made its way down my leg, and now I am worried because I'm terrified I have hurt my baby and that if I miscarry it will be my fault. My cousin is a midwife and told me not to worry, I have a scan next Wednesday and I pretty much want to hibernate until then and call in sick at work tomorrow and Monday. I feel physically and emotionally drained. Also for the past 24 hours I have had a constant headache which won't go away. Other than this I'm ok. I thought things were supposed to get better at 12 weeks, not worse. That said after yesterday I will freak out if my symptoms disappear today. Sorry for the negativity guys xxxx

Hi @wombats. I had a scan at 8 weeks and that’s when we realised we were only having one as we had had two embryos put in. My next scan is 13 June when I will be a day off 13 weeks. I just can’t wait until I can stop all my medication as I’m currently on 18 tablets a day which are making me feel ill but I’m thankful that we have got this far and without the medication I know we probably wouldn’t have x

rainylake · 25/05/2018 10:01

Thanks for explaining that. I guess if they didn't mention a blood test maybe they don't do them in that case and just wait for the scan. I guess the pregnancy either will or won't work and there's nothing at this point they can do to change that, so it's just a question of waiting to find out. It's just a bit worrying as I phoned about 6 times yesterday and never managed to speak to an actual person, and then again twice this morning, and I've now left 2 messages. It's a bit annoying given that they gave me leaflets saying 'it's absolutely essential you tell us the result of the test as soon as you've done it, and we will always either speak to you immediately or call you back straight away', which makes me feel like there's something I should be doing right now.

Janefx40 · 25/05/2018 10:02

@becky114 sorry you're feeling so rubbish. It's terrifying when you think something has gone wrong. Hope time passes quickly until your scan. Definitely call in sick if you feel distressed. I have these past two days - emotional stress is just as valid a reason for sick leave as physical Illness I think

X

DameSylvieKrin · 25/05/2018 10:14

I think many clinics don’t do blood tests, as home pregnancy tests are so accurate when properly used.
If you can get two hcg tests, or decide to pay for them privately, of course it’s nice to know, but I wouldn’t worry if you can’t.

DameSylvieKrin · 25/05/2018 10:18

Sorry to hear things aren’t going well, Becky, but I’m sure it’s nothing you‘ve done. The doppler can be really tricky. They always say that brown discharge is old blood, so hopefully nothing to worry about. Will be thinking of you this weekend.

becky114 · 25/05/2018 11:57

I have called hospital and they have booked me in tomorrow morning to make sure there is still a heartbeat 💗 xxx

Janefx40 · 25/05/2018 15:10

@becky114 great news - well done for getting in touch. It would have been a bit much to wait until Sunday.

Xx

Barcelo18 · 25/05/2018 15:21

@becky114 hopefully it will be able to put your mind at rest. Who knew that after all these years of waiting for the bfp that we would all never be able to relax throughout the pregnancy. I hope you relax as much as you can until tomorrow and do something to try to take your mind off things x

Janefx40 · 25/05/2018 16:36

So had a scan. Everything is fine. We even have a heart beat. He said it's a little slow but not unexpected as so early. They were going to get me back in a week but my clinic scan is then so they will scan me again in 3 weeks.

I know there's a long way to go but I'm so glad that everything is looking good today.

So I am not to be trusted. Instincts mean nothing. Remind me of that tomorrow when I start panicking again!

Fingers crossed for good news for you too tomorrow @becky114

Xxx

Hobbes39 · 25/05/2018 17:25

Hi all - @becky114 - try not to worry, will be thinking of you tomorrow and hope you get reassuring news 🤞
@Janefx40 - that's amazing! I am desperate for Wednesday to come when I'm due my scan where we hope to see the heartbeat... I'm scared silly too though... that's brilliant that you have seen the heartbeat and I hope you can feel more positive now?
Hope everyone else is doing ok?
I'm ok at the moment - the spotting has stopped again and tbh I am trying not to think about it too much as nothing I can do about it really. Just want Wednesday to hurry up and get here and please please let it be good news 🤞🤞

wombats · 26/05/2018 07:37

@becky114 so sorry you've been having a rough time. Three 12 hours shifts in a row sounds impossible! Fingers crossed for your scan today.

@janefx40, congrats on the fab scan! Fingers crossed for the next scan. It's so hard to trust intuitions with all of this, isn't it?

@barcelo18, 18 tablets?!? Oh my! im sure no one can fault you for looking forward to being done with that!

@hobbes, fingers crossed the spotting stays away. Hope Wednesday comes soon for you and you've got something lovely planned for the bank hol to keep your mind off of the worries.

@tainylake, my clinic was the same, I had to email them and would just get an automated reply that someone would respond in next three business days! So frustrating. They did tend to reply quickly to urgent queries. Hope you hear back from them soon. Are they open 7 days?

I didn't do my prenatal vitamin and managed to open my bowels a bit, so perhaps that will work if anyone else is suffering Blush Did get a massive headache, not sure if related.

Sending good thoughts to all xxx

Hi @wombats - have you tried just taking folic acid without all the other vitamins - you can get it by itself from boots? I remember doing that with my DS as had a similar problem but didn't want to stop taking the FA.
Glad you are a bit more comfortable now tho! X

becky114 · 26/05/2018 11:30

Hi everyone baby is fine thank heavens, just waiting to speak to a doctor xxx

rainylake · 26/05/2018 14:04

@wombats my clinic is normally really good with communication... And it turned out their phone systems were down on Thursday morning so they only got the second message I left on Friday. Someone phoned me back and was really apologetic and a nurse then phoned to book my scan a couple of hours later, and also to order me more progesterone as otherwise I run out on Tuesday! Also it was the nurse who did my initial appointment and first gonal scan and she is particularly lovely. So feeling better now, and I'm going in on 12th June for the scan.

Janefx40 · 26/05/2018 14:50

Great news @becky114 such a relief.

@rainylake Glad nurse was supportive and warm - it makes such a difference. 12th of June is pretty soon!!

Xxx

Decafplease · 26/05/2018 21:21

Yeah for the good news jane and becky!

1Wanda1 · 27/05/2018 08:52

Hi everyone. I am cautiously hopping over here from the other thread I am on, as today tested at 9dp5dt and got a BFP! I am a bit shell shocked.

BFP after IVF: any other nervous ladies in need of a handhold?
wombats · 27/05/2018 09:21

Brilliant scan news @becky114! Did the doctor have any advice for you?

@rainylake, glad you were able to get everything sorted. Hooray for more Cyclogest Smile

@hobbes39, I'll look at getting FA alone, thanks for the suggestion. Been three days since I had the full prenatal and been able to open my bowels so reckon it must be related.

@1wanda1, congrats and welcome! We have a couple of others here who have just gotten BFPs. The early days were the most anxious (for me at least) so do feel free to pop by with any questions or worries you have. Have you got a scan or beta booked yet?

OP posts:
Hobbes39 · 27/05/2018 09:21

@1Wanda1 - fabulous news! It's a nerve wracking journey from here, but so glad you are here 😊 your symptoms did sound promising & that's a great strong line!

I'm currently struggling with being knackered and trying hard not to think too much about Wednesday... (scan day)!

And great news @becky114 x

Si1ver · 27/05/2018 09:27

Hi all, can I join you?

I'm five weeks today after a 5d SET. I can't quite believe my first round of IVF worked. My clinic sent me an automated email to remind me that I had to test and a link to update my records online which I thought was really useful. First scan is booked in for 9th June.

1Wanda1 · 27/05/2018 09:55

No scan or anything booked yet Wombats - only got BFP today so I guess I will call clinic on Tues morning and see what they say. Do they normally arrange a scan for 6-7 weeks?

Hobbes not long till Weds! How many weeks will you be then?

Hi S1lver. Congrats on your good news. So great that it has worked first time. How are you feeling?

Si1ver · 27/05/2018 10:33

@1Wanda1 shocking. My brain is scrambled, I can't remember things which are basic parts of my job and life. Grin

Janefx40 · 27/05/2018 12:26

Welcome @1Wanda1 and @Si1ver I'm pretty new too. 6w2d. I found it all a bit overwhelming at first but it is also an exciting time.

@1Wanda1 clinics really vary with follow up. Some do bloods and scans earlier than others. Mine just offer a scan from 7 weeks
