BFP after IVF: any other nervous ladies in need of a handhold?

I've had my BFP after our first FET and in a bit of a state analysing symptoms/lack of symptoms. Had two losses prior to starting IVF so really can't get my head round what might be normal or not. Clinic will scan me at six weeks, but that is two very long weeks away! Anyone else in a similar position? xxx

Phew @Decafplease - great news all is fine with baby 😊 - what a relief. Did they know what caused the bleeding and cramping? Was it just irritation? Hope you are ok & can relax this afternoon, the worry is exhausting! Xx

DameSylvieKrin · 22/05/2018 17:18

Great news Decaf, glad you came across a nice midwife.
Pleased to hear that the bleeding has stopped, Hobbes.
I had my 18 week check today (not in UK) with a scan, the basics are all fine (and for the last two days I can feel him tapping and somersaulting so was spared the usual scanxiety). However the doctor was a bit concerned that going by the scan she still wouldn’t have been able to tell whether it’s a boy or girl so something to watch out for at the anomaly scan. She has a crappy ultrasound machine compared with the prenatal diagnostic doctor so am keeping an open mind for now and we’ll have to see in 3 weeks.

wombats · 22/05/2018 20:41

Decaf, brilliant news, absolutely thrilled for you. Hooray for another month of bum bullets Smile

Dame, so exciting to feel your baby move! I've had a couple of friends who have not been able to tell the sex at the scan, they were told absolutely nothing to worry about and likely due to baby's position only. And a couple of friends who've had surprises at delivery despite what the scan said! Still have everything crossed for you.

I've just got my Harmony results, low risk for all major trisomies, practically in tears when they rang me. Starting to feel quite real now!

Glad all ok Decaf!

In other news I’m feeling like a human again and even managed a short bike ride yesterday! I’m so pleased after feeling so awful for what seemed like a really long time. So there is hope for anyone else feeling rubbish Smile

TryingToStayRational · 22/05/2018 21:32

Oo and yay Wombats that’s brilliant news! Grin

Janefx40 · 23/05/2018 00:11

Wow it looks like there is good news all round on here today. Congrats @Decafplease @DameSylvieKrin @TryingToStayRational @wombats

I've been struggling quite a lot with anxiety - convinced it's all going wrong etc. Have had quite a lot of cramps and concerned they are getting stronger. DP emailed the consultant today and managed to get us a scan 10 days earlier than they had originally offered (my hero). So we will at least know at 6 wk6 now rather than 8wk3. Still deciding whether to do a private blood test. It wouldn't tell me much at this stage but if it's gone down I would know at least. Basically I seem to have totally lost it! Who knew a positive result could be so hard going!

Xxx

Hobbes39 · 23/05/2018 08:02

Hi @Janefx40 - sorry you are feeling like this, I know where you are coming from though! Are you on cyclogest too? I ask as since switching to the back, my cramps are much better and my bleeding is gone for now, so I'm sure it was causing some of that, so it may be the same with you?
That's good they've moved your scan forward - mine is also at 6w6d - so a week today - is yours the Thursday? I'm trying v hard to not think too much about it now and failing miserably!
I think it's only to be expected to be this stressed as we've been thru so much to get here... it's so hard x

Great news @wombats! Must feel brilliant x

Janefx40 · 23/05/2018 10:00

@Hobbes39 yes mine is next Thursday. Am going to try to be zen today. Sorry to hijack your thread with my worry esp when there has been so much good news for most of you

Xxx

Hobbes39 · 23/05/2018 10:18

@Janefx40 - I've hijacked it more with my roller coaster of emotions the last week so I def don't think you should apologise! I think cramping is common and bleeding is common too, it's the 2 together that's not so great. If you work out how to be zen, do let me know! X

Decafplease · 23/05/2018 10:23

Thanks everyone!
I’m still on bed rest today, as still having some spotting. But much reassured after the scan. They dont know what caused the bleeding but dont seem too worried.
Had some deadlines at work, but its all been pushed back/delegated as this is much more my priority now!
dame how lovely to feel your baby move! I wouldn’t worry about not seeing the sex on ultrasound- many of my friends didnt get told till the 20w scan. It all depends on the position of the baby apparently.
wombats great news on the low anomaly risk! One more positive step ahead!
rational Glad you are finally feeling better. You have had a really tough time with sickness. Mine hasn’t reduced that much, but it wasn’t as bad as yours to start with.
hobbes glad your cramps & bleeding stopped. Onwards to a positive scan for you 🤞
jane the early weeks can be a very anxious time - we have all gone through it and understand totally. Why even at 14w i’m still nervous. Sending you a handhold till your scan.
Hi to everyone else, hope you are having a good week. X

DameSylvieKrin · 23/05/2018 13:24

Great news, Wombats, and I‘m glad that the sickness has eased off, Rational.
What alarmed me at the scan was that the doctor said that she was concerned. But then I remembered that every time I went in for bleeding she started each scan with a concerned ‚it’s very small!‘ as if she were surprised, but then when I would say ‚so it’s too small?‘ she would say it was exactly the right size, and then looking at the scan picture, it always measured exactly right to the day. I think she just has an unfortunate manner.
Also she diagnosed my DW with placenta previa but when we went to the referral for that a couple of days later there were 2 clear centimetres between the placenta and the cervix. I think her machine is just very old; the pictures kind of remind me of Ceefax.
So I‘ve decided not to worry.
I‘ve finally got my pregnancy support belt to sit in the right place (there’s enough bump to stop it riding up now) and it is so comfortable. If anyone ends up with back pain, might be worth a try.
I‘ve ended up with a lot of back pain yet again but my doctor said yesterday she would send me on maternity leave as early as I like (luckily there’s no financial impact here). That’s a relief because now I know I can stop once it gets too much. I want to keep going a bit as I won’t be going back to work after, but we’ll see.

Janefx40 · 24/05/2018 07:33

@DameSylvieKrin how awful that that Dr always says something alarming - there's a difference between being honest and terrifying all your patients. Glad you are not too worried.

I had proper period pain last night. It made me realise the other cramps I've had have been different. As soon as this hit there was no doubt what it was. Felt totally gutted. Of course now it has faded I'm trying to convince myself it's ok. Going to have a blood test this morning but it can't really tell me that much anyway unless it has gone right down. Wish me luck x

Hobbes39 · 24/05/2018 08:07

Good luck for the blood test @Janefx40 - you could ask them to do a scan? my docs did one last week (5w4d) as they thought that would give more info than a blood test. Have you been bleeding? Will be thinking of you. My spotting returned last night - very light, but there. I hope it stays away... I feel scared to move, it's ridiculous. Need to do some gardening this weekend but don't want to over do it and then regret it. Just all feels so precarious doesn't it? X

Janefx40 · 24/05/2018 08:24

@Hobbes39 sorry about the spotting. It's so scary isn't it. I'm afraid I'm now pretty sure this has ended for me. My boobs have totally deflated too! I will call the clinic but don't think they will even see me. I've booked an appointment with a private Dr but not sure what he will do other than blood test which may not tell us much. No bleeding but I'm on a massive dose of progesterone and estrogen so not sure I would bleed either way.

Hope things settle down for you x

DameSylvieKrin · 24/05/2018 09:16

Fingers crossed for you, Jane. I think everyone on this thread has had moments where they think it’s definitely over, but somehow it isn’t, so I really hoping that this is one of those for you.
Hobbes, sorry to hear that the spotting is back. Do you take the progesterone at exact 8 hour intervals? The clinic told me it didn’t need to be exact, but I found I had more bleeding if it wasn’t. Although that may have been a coincidence.

Decafplease · 24/05/2018 09:23

jane so sorry to hear of your scare. Fingers crossed its still ok. X

Janefx40 · 24/05/2018 11:47

GP was nice actually (I usually find him quite annoying) and referred me to EPU for scan but no appointments today so tomorrow at 3pm

becky114 · 24/05/2018 13:01

@Janefx40 everything crossed for you jane xxx

rainylake · 24/05/2018 16:23

Hi ladies, is it okay if I join? I just had a bfp this morning, which was my OTD (11dpd5t). The line was incredibly faint though and it took so long to come through that I really thought it was a negative for quite a while. I'm waiting to hear back from my clinic about next steps and when I'll get a scan. I'm a bit nervous and trying not to get excited yet because it's such early days.

DameSylvieKrin · 24/05/2018 18:32

Congratulations, Rainylake!

Janefx40 · 24/05/2018 21:07

@rainylake congrats. It's such a lovely moment when you see those two lines!

Xxx

Barcelo18 · 24/05/2018 21:19

Huge congratulations @rainylake, it’s an amazing feeling isn’t it. Im currently 10 weeks and still trying not to get myself excited as I never ever thought we would get this far. The next step is usually a blood test to check your hcg levels with a further blood test after 48 hours to see if they’ve doubled and then an early scan around the 7 week mark x

rainylake · 24/05/2018 22:01

How soon after your bfp did other people have their blood tests? In the paperwork from my clinic they didn't mention that, just a scan in 2-3 weeks. I tried calling the clinic a few times today as they had been very insistent on the importance of letting them know the outcome but didn't manage to speak to anyone and had to leave a phone message. Hopefully someone actually picked up the message!

Janefx40 · 24/05/2018 22:52

@rainylake my clinic don't do blood tests only scans although I did argue my way into a single blood test which was just under a week after my test day.

Barcelo18 · 25/05/2018 05:50

@rainylake. I got mine the day I rang to tell them the results and then again 48 hours later. I had ivf abroad but paid my local fertility clinic at the hospital where I had previously had a cycle a private fee so I could use them for injections blood tests etc
