BFP after IVF: any other nervous ladies in need of a handhold?

I've had my BFP after our first FET and in a bit of a state analysing symptoms/lack of symptoms. Had two losses prior to starting IVF so really can't get my head round what might be normal or not. Clinic will scan me at six weeks, but that is two very long weeks away! Anyone else in a similar position? xxx

Sorry you are having such a stressful time hobbes. Rest as much as you can today and i hope the clinic can give you some reassurance tomorrow. Keeping everything crossed for you. X

Bruges21 · 19/05/2018 20:55

Hi Hobbes really hope you've been able to rest up today. I'm glad your clinic can see you quickly and that will hopefully give you some answers as I know the uncertainty is so horrible to deal with. Good luck with your results x

Hobbes39 · 20/05/2018 10:33

Thanks all. The bad cramps have subsided and back to being just full cramps... the bleeding stopped yesterday evening but had started again this morning. I now just want to go to bed and get up tomorrow for the blood test. I know the bleeding is common, but that cramping with it isn't usually good news, but I'm trying to remain positive. The bleeding this am seems slightly heavier, going to wear a towel in case... Sad Ug. Roll on tomorrow x

wombats · 20/05/2018 11:59

@hobbes39, so sorry you're having to go through this. Sending you good thoughts and keeping everything crossed for you. Are you able to go early tomorrow? xx

hobbes good luck for today.

DameSylvieKrin · 21/05/2018 09:39

Thinking of you this morning, Hobbes, best of luck.
Sometimes it’s hard to stay positive, and during bleeding it’s probably hardest of all, so I sometimes just try to be neutral instead.

Hobbes39 · 21/05/2018 10:05

It's still there! No explanation for bleeding and cramping and I almost passed out from nerves before it, but for now, our tiny embryo is clinging on. I'm still bleeding and still having light cramps. Wish they'd fucking stop so I can stop worrying! Thanks for the support xx

TryingToStayRational · 21/05/2018 10:27

That’s great to hear, Hobbes. Really hope it all settles down for you very soon. Go easy on yourself, and I hope you have a much calmer week from now on Flowers

Hobbes39 · 21/05/2018 10:45

Thanks @TryingToStayRational - me too!
Can I ask - those of you who are/ were on cyclogest - sorry for the question, but did any of you use the er 'backdoor'? Am thinking I might change to that incase it's the pessaries irritating my cervix... but nervous about doing so in case they aren't as effective..? X

Janefx40 · 21/05/2018 10:56

Hello all. Can I join you? I've been feeling too nervous to join this group then realised it's a bit silly to feel too nervous to join the nervous BFP group!

I got my BFP about 10 days ago from my second ICSI. It was a nightmare cycle for various reasons and we only had a single day 5 morula to transfer so no one expected a positive result. My clinic don't blood test but I persuaded them to give me one last Thursday which showed a good level of hcg but they wouldn't do a second so am still none the wiser about doubling which is the important bit!! Been totally freaking out, convinced I'm about to miscarry. Am a nightmare.

@Hobbes39 so relieved your bean is still there. Having read back through the thread, I think you are a day ahead of me time wise.

I'm a back door user of cyclogest. I use surgical gloves because I'm squeamish! As far as I know it absorbs just as well and you never get any discharge. At my last clinic I was on POI injections but my levels were dropping until they added back the suppositories which I used rectally. Levels then stabilised so assume it works!

Decafplease · 21/05/2018 11:02

That’s lovely news hobbes! Hope thats it and you have a easier time from now on.
I also use the suppository, absorbs the same i think & a lot less messy!
Welcome & congratulations jane!

becky114 · 21/05/2018 11:25

@Janefx40 welcome and congratulations. @Hobbes39 I used mine vaginally for several weeks but then started getting pain in my vagina so changed to the bum. I finish them this weekend thank heavens xxx

Hobbes39 · 21/05/2018 11:29

Thanks guys - think I'll switch to the back then as all I can think of for causing the bleeding is irritation so leaving well alone there is probably for the best...
Welcome @Janefx40 - these days are the longest and most nerve wracking aren't they?! Hope that all progresses well for you too xx

TryingToStayRational · 21/05/2018 11:40

I was on cyclogest til 12 weeks Hobbes and the clinic told me it would be absorbed in 20 mins just the same via either passageway, so it was fine to do either or to mix and match. I found rectally way less messy.

Jane welcome and congrats. Hope you start to feel less nervous soon, it’s really hard in those early days but hang in there Smile

DameSylvieKrin · 21/05/2018 12:24

Glad you got some good news, Hobbes! Here’s hoping that the next few weeks pass quickly.
Congratulations on the bfp, Jane!

Janefx40 · 21/05/2018 22:14

Thank you for the welcome ladies x

Hobbes39 · 22/05/2018 07:44

Sorry for the grossness of this question, but this is about the only place I can ask this..! I switched yesterday to using cyclogest in the back and my bleeding has stopped so I'm thinking it's quite likely that's been part of the problem... only problem now is I've just had to reinsert a new one this am as 5 mins after I did I had almost diarrhoea... so I think it's irritating there as well..! Arg! What do I do? I don't want bleeding and I don't want the runs... Confused

TryingToStayRational · 22/05/2018 08:13

Hobbes not sure if this will help and sorry it’s a bit gross but I always found after inserting cyclogest I felt like I needed to go, and if I did it would be a bit like diarrhoea (basically it’s just the bullet of mostly vegetable oil melting), but if I could hang on for a bit the feeling would pass and it would be alright. And if you can manage 20 mins it should be absorbed by then. It’s not pleasant at all I know. I don’t know if that’s what you’re experiencing - if not then maybe ask your clinic about it.

wombats · 22/05/2018 08:26

Brilliant scan news, Hobbes! I also used my Cyclogest in the back passage and sometimes found it a bit irritating, but mostly it gave me massive wind when I first started! This might sound obvious but I would always put it in after I'd had a poo and felt, er, empty. If it's in for under 20-30 minutes, I reckon you'd need to pop a new one in. I noticed my wind was quite loud and a bit damp if you will-I reckon due to the wax, but it did get better over time.

Jane, welcome and congrats! I remember reading about your cycle on another board, so thrilled that you've had success. Have you got a scan booked yet?

How's everyone else getting on? I'm 12 weeks now Shock and think I can feel the top of my womb at my bikini line! Bought a Doppler out of nerves and heard baby right away. Nuchal scan next week so a bit nervous but feeling much more relaxed than the early days, especially as our last scan was one day earlier than limit for Nuchal measurement so doctor said off the record it was fine. Should have Harmony result this week so if all okay will likely start telling people. Sometimes want to let everyone know but also enjoying the privacy and quiet.

Sending good thoughts to all xx

Hi all,
I have had some cramps and bleeding overnight. Heading to maternity unit now for check. But they say they will only check my cervix by speculum & not scan/doppler to check on baby. This is my first scare on the nhs, everytime i had a bleed under fertility clinic they did the whole workup. Is this normal? Should i insist on a scan? Midwife said as i am 14w today, this is their protocol. If i was 13w 6d i would have had different treatment!
I know logically bleeds are common & dont have to mean disaster but i am still terrified.

TryingToStayRational · 22/05/2018 09:10

Bless you, decaf - I do hope you get some reassurance and things are ok for you Flowers

wombats · 22/05/2018 09:21

Oh decaf, how frightening. Are they aware of your history? I reckon if they are, they'll listen with the Doppler. Holding your hand from here xx

Hobbes39 · 22/05/2018 10:43

Oh no @Decafplease - it's so frightening....I have everything crossed for you that you get some reassurance soon - I'd insist upon a scan if I were you, I wouldn't leave without one! Thinking of you xx

Decafplease · 22/05/2018 11:00

Thanks rational, wombats & hobbes. Baby all good! Midwife was awsome, convinced doc to do scan when he wanted to send me off after speculum check of cevix. Was seen very quickly too, which was a pleasant suprise. Have been told to take cyclogest for another whole month, was supposed to stop this thrusday. Just picking up prescription now. Was looking forward to the end of the bum bullets, but if it keeps baby happy & growing will gladly put up with it!

Janefx40 · 22/05/2018 11:08

@Decafplease so pleased to see this. What a relief. I'm really glad the Dr scanned you too
