Fertility treatment- IUI

Hi, has anyone had IUI fertility treatment? We've been TTC for 3 years now. Had all the tests. We have a consultation tomorrow at the hospital about moving forward with treatment and we've been given an indication that IUI may be the best option to try first before IVF.

I'm just wondering if there's anyone out there who has been through this or is going through this.

Thanks

Thanks @csds your post was very helpful and encouraging. I’m going to contact the nurses today for my pre treatment tests and some med to induce AF. Hopefully I get to start next week. I also intend to take time off and take it easy for a few days after EC and ET (hopeful I get to the latter stage). Given I have pcos I’m at risk of over stimulation. Doc had previously recommended the antagonist protocol.

All the best for your scan snowy!

I forgot to say I’ve gone full circle in the last week. From very excited by the prospect of becoming “normal” by ovarian drilling I’m now just sceptical about the advice from nhs and eager to not waste any more time on treatment that doesn’t help directly with conception..

IUI has a very low success rate. It doesn't work for everyone. In my opinion, you should not waste your time. It will waste your energy and money too. Just directly go for IVF.That is a much safer option. I hope this was helpful. Good luck xoxo

@Cobblestones how did you get on with the nurses?

Stork fertility device has the same success rates as IUI and costs £100. Best to try then and then move to IVF

@csds I got an appointment for wed afternoon. They will do a scan and some blood tests and then if I get the green light it’s all systems go. Fingers crossed! Thanks for pointing me to the post you started on about to start ivf. I’ve made a list of things I’m going to try and keep in mind and hopefully put some of it to practice. From reading the post you seemed to be in a really good head space and that must have been a contributing factor Smile

@jenna I think that’s what happened to me to some extent a second cycle of IUI sapped my energy and I found it quite painful with too many follicles however there is someone here for whom IUI did work out..

@Cobblestones let me know how Wednesday goes. I know it sounds cheesy and cliche but I really believe that trying to remain happy and positive throughout treatment helps. Download the app mindful IVF, I thought it was good. It's calming, relaxing and explains how being anxious and tense can affect your body and your womb, positivity is inviting, anxiety and stress is hostile. I think being mentally in the right place is a contributing factor to getting that result. So put the past behind you, move forward, stay positive and when you start IVF Make it a positive experience xx

Hi tct,

I had three lots of iui then went for ivf. We were lucky enough to only need one cycle of ivf. I'm now 12 weeks pregnant.

As much as I've tried to stay positive the past 3 years it has been such an emotional journey, heartbreaking and soul destroying at times. I feel very lucky.

Fingers crossed with cycle 3 for you, put the last cycles out of your mind and focus on this one, positive happy thoughts 🤞❤️

@ttc2017, I got pregnant with IUI. It took 7 cycles, although I had a batch of 3 in 2016 then a batch of 4 in 2017 (makes me wonder if I had just paid for an extra one in 2016 if my LO would already be here).

Have 20w scan at 12 today, so excited and nervous at the same time

All the best snowy! Is there any particular milestone associated with 20 weeks other than being the half way point? Over five years of trying I know so much about the first 12 weeks but almost nothing about anything beyond that. Fingers crossed I have reason to learn this year.

Csds - yayyy so exciting!! And I absolutely love your attitude. Btw I’m quite liking the mindful ivf app. Thanks for recommending it.

Ttc - I had two cycles of IUI late last year but I found the second one quite difficult with too many small follicles and it took ages for there to be a dominant one. I decided to not pursue any further with IUI and now waiting to start ivf. With no known fertility issues it sounds like a good idea to try atleast a few.

@cobblestones, actually I don’t know if there are any milestones at this stage apart from the ‘big’ scan. Have been feeling LO kick a bit more this past week, started feeling it a few weeks ago but wasn’t 100% sure what it was (I would say I am now 99% sure Smile) but it has been more frequent since mid last week.
