Fertility treatment- IUI

Hi, has anyone had IUI fertility treatment? We've been TTC for 3 years now. Had all the tests. We have a consultation tomorrow at the hospital about moving forward with treatment and we've been given an indication that IUI may be the best option to try first before IVF.

I'm just wondering if there's anyone out there who has been through this or is going through this.

Thanks

Hi Ttc, I'm doing ok, Saturday was a bit of a bummer, I had my first scan since becoming a pin cushion and only had 5 follicles and 3 were very small so I was a bit upset as people get like 13-18.

I've just been for another scan and bloods. I have 6 follicles, two a fantastic size so now they are waiting for one other to catch up then I'll trigger ready for EC. So I need to wait for my telephone call but he said I'll probably back in tomorrow for another check.

How's things with you? X

Ah no :( but just think it only takes one for it to happen! I'm not too clued up with ivf so sorry if I make stupid comments. Had my bloods back and looks like iron and b12 might be low x

csds · 07/02/2018 16:28

Can that be sorted with a supplement?

I have egg collection on Friday, Consultant seems happy so we'll just wait and see x

@CSDS what was the egg collection like? I’ve heard some say it can be painful after

csds · 07/02/2018 16:59

I've got it Friday so I'll let you know. I'm having a general anaesthetic so it should be ok. Yeh I've heard mixed things about pain after but if anything I'd imagine period pain like feelings but I'll let you know.

What's the next step with you? X

Sorry misread your comment, thought you’d had it already. Hope it goes well Smile

I am impatiently waiting on midwife appointments. I’m 9+ weeks and haven’t even had my booking in appointment letter out never mind my letter for 12 week scan. I followed up with them yesterday so am having my booking in appointment on 1st March, no word on scan, when I will be almost 13 weeks (am a little raging about this, I think they just forgot about me).

Luckily the IUI clinic are keen to track things so they gave a second scan last week, when I was just short of 9 weeks and everything is on track (baby even moved) and they said I can go for another if I want so might have another one next week

snowy1982 · 09/02/2018 07:07

Good luck today CSDS

Ttc2017 · 09/02/2018 13:01

Good luck csds!

csds · 09/02/2018 13:51

Thanks both.

EC wasn't to bad at all. 6 follicles but only two eggs they can use. I’m a little gutted we don’t have 3, I’m just hoping they are a good grade and that they fertilise.
We will get a call to let us know tomorrow or Sunday.

Other than that I feel fine, just a little tired. I might feel differently once the anaesthetic wears off xx

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for 2 great quality ones for putting back. Hope you don’t actually feel it when anaesthetic wears off but no matter what make sure and have yourself a lazy weekend

csds · 23/02/2018 18:38

Eek! I got my BFP this morning. I'm in shock! I couldn't make my blood test today so have it Tuesday so I decided to test.

OMG it's finally happened xx❤️, just hope nothing goes wrong 🤞

SuperMoonIsKeepingMeUpToo · 06/03/2018 08:07

That's superb news! Thank you for asking, but having had my IUI twins nearly 16 years ago and my 50th birthday last week, I'm way past all that!

snowy1982 · 16/03/2018 11:03

CSDS I am only seeing this now!!! Congratulations, so so happy for you Grin

Cobblestones · 12/04/2018 23:13

CSDS, I’m 19w today, still really struggling with fatigue etc but think (really not too sure about this) I might be starting to feel movements. Have my 20 week scan Monday week so very excited and anxious about that.

When’s your 12w scan?

Cobblestones · 13/04/2018 17:20

Oh wow snowy you’re pregnant too!! Congratulations!!! I went back into the posts and read you conceived on an IUI cycle! That’s amazing!

Hats off to both of you ladies for persevering and it sounds like you’ve kept each other going so amazing.

Thank you for thinking of me csds. I disappeared after the last cycle I had. Went on holiday. Came back in January and was waiting around for my nhs appointment where they haven’t offered ivf but instead recommended laparoscopic ovarian drilling. I won’t bore you with the details but just waiting for my private doctor to return from leave so he can set me straight and then I’m hoping I finally stop delaying and head straight to ivf.

Assuming you don’t mind my asking if you’re still on here - it wasn’t too dreadful was it? The needles, the procedure etc? I just need to get a move on..

Just thinking back to last October and how you started out this thread. So amazing to see where you both are!!

csds · 14/04/2018 07:00

Snowy, I'm 11 weeks tomorrow. Fatigue has been the one thing that has affected me. Some weekends I've had a 2 hr nap in the day. Wow, movements!! Good luck with your scan Monday. It all still feels a bit surreal. We haven't told anyone yet. My 12 week scan is a week on Wednesday. It will be nice to see a baby shape instead of a fuzzy blob.

Cobblestones, how do you feel about the drilling? IVF pleasantly surprised me, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I think I may have been one of the luckier ones. I started a thread in here called anyone about to start ivf which you might want to have a nose at.

After iui I was prepared for injections. I had a total of 25 to give myself 😬. EC was fab, for me I had general anaesthetic so I went to theatre had a needle and woke up again, as simple as that, but I'm aware some places don't do that. I was in hospital for about 4 hours in total, had to pee and eat before leaving. I wasn't in too much pain after the procedure, if anything I felt like I was having a few period pains. I was good to myself and rested (a lot). The hospital signed me off work for 3 days, at the time we were a little gutted as we only had three eggs collected and in the end only one to pin all our hopes on but we stayed positive. I had a 3 day transfer and again had a week off work to do nothing but rest and remain calm. I feel very lucky but it still doesn't seem real. Here to give you any support you need xx

snowy1982 · 14/04/2018 18:31

Thanks @cobblestones, yip IUI finally worked out (it only took 7 attempts) Smile

@CSDS, the fatigue was the worst part for me, I had a lot of nausea and some actual stuff sickness but it was always in the evenings so I didn’t have to cope with it in work etc, but the fatigue is just constant. I had a pregnancy yoga class today and was speaking to some women a couple weeks ahead of me and they said their fatigue had only just lifted so am hoping mine will soon as well

csds · 16/04/2018 06:18

I'd love to do pregnancy yogi but there's nothing by me so I might have to watch a bit of you tube.

Hope today's scan goes well. Will you find out the sex of the baby? X
