Anyone else having IVF for second child after IVF for first?!?

Hello!

We had IVF ICSI in January 2014 which resulted in our little boy born in October 2014. We started trying again when he's was 9 months hoping that nature would be on our side this time but after 3 months we decided to speak to the FC again to see if it was even worth bothering to try naturally. It wasn't and so we are to start IVF again very soon.

Looking for others going through the same thing if possible to be my buddy's Smile

Not so sure again today, some more brown discharge but stringy in parts too and I swear I could see shades of red just hoping my mind playing tricks on me! Losing hope though now, anyone else experienced anything like this? Trying to take it a day at a time as my period due tomorrow clinic said so trying to get through each day without a proper bleed Sad

GlummyMummy · 18/08/2016 20:10

thanks for kind messages folks. Not really got head around what we are going to do next. Do have two frozen but no idea how/when that will happen as never had any to freeze before so all a bit of a grey area for us!

The two week wait is horrendous isn't it, frightened to go to the loo for what you might see! In a tiny way it's good that I bled early so I didn't have long to wait!

GilbertBlythe4JM · 18/08/2016 20:23

Hang in there smiley - it's so tough but not long til official test day. Keeping fingers crossed for your bfp.
Glummy an fet is much more straightforward than a fresh cycle - I only had to go in once for a scan before transfer day. And it should be much cheaper too (mine cost a grand compared to five for a fresh cycle) xxx

Smileybobs29 · 18/08/2016 21:08

I've been reading about FET's today glummy as its a grey area too for me and just preparing myself for the worst and it does seem a lot more straightforward and faster and as Gilbert said a hell of a lot cheaper with less drugs!
Yes I've got terrible insomnia for fear of going to the toilet!
Thanks Gilbert, Tuesday seems so so far away and I keep getting palpatations thinking about it! I have definately lost all positivity this round.. Xx

I'm so sorry to hear that things aren't going as well as hoped ladies. I've been reading all your comments but can't really offer much in the way of advice. Sending all my happy thoughts your way and some sunny vibes from Oz - it's coming to the end of winter and we've been having glorious shinshiney days which has helped me feel more positive about life, the universe and everything. In a bit more of a 'whatever happens, happens' vibe which is kind of against my personality type of 'if you want it, make it happen'. I guess all the discussion so far really brings it home again about how much this infertility situation is out of our control. Hoping you can all find some time to spend with your beautiful bubs and loved ones to remember what's good in life.

GlummyMummy · 19/08/2016 11:54

being totally ignorant here but how does a frozen transfer work? That's good to hear it's easier and cheaper!

HollyHx · 19/08/2016 16:26

Hope sunshine and smiley are hanging in there. Nearly there now… How are you feeling?
Smiley my spotting on my successful transfer was a week before OTD. I was convinced it hadn’t worked so the actual test day was a genuine shock. It then continued for weeks. I have to admit that I had spotting with my recent two unsuccessful cycles too. I think my body must always react that way. Every day without your period is a really good sign though.
Sorry to hear your period arrived Glummy – that has what just happened to me too, a whole week before test day. Rubbish. It’s so hard. The early positive makes it even worse. So cruel. Agree that FET is an easier process so certainly worth a shot. I think the theory they are better than fresh is that your body hasn’t been through the gruelling egg collection. We’ve had drug free FET too which are much easier on the body (not the mind!)

The drug free FET at my clinic involves a scan at day 10 or 12 to check you are about to ovulate, lining is okay etc. You do ovulation sticks at home and phone them when you get a positive I then had another scan to check I had actually ovulated (which is a new part of the process I think) then you have the transfer 7 days after your surge (for a 5 day blast). It is much more straightforward.

sunshineonarainyday1 · 20/08/2016 13:27

FET definitely a lot easier and cheaper. I started an FET in May which was medicated but without down regging. Phoned clinic on day 1 and had scan on day 2 or 3 then started oestrogen tablets and was monitored every few days. But around day 14 I looked like I was going to ovulate and bloods confirmed this so the cycle was cancelled.

This time round I started down regging on day 21 I think (to make sure I definitely didnt ovulate this cycle), had a bleed as normal then went back on about day 7 for scan and started the oestrogen then. Had scan a week later and then started on progesterone about 5 days before transfer as well as the oestrogen but stopped the down reg drug. Then went in with full bladder for ET. Was a lot less stressful than a fresh transfer. From what I've read too there's some pros to an FET as you're taking oestrogen as well as progesterone and continue with it until week 10-12.

Ok so OTD is here....BFP this morning! Not getting hopes up but wanted to let you all know. I've ticked another box and one step closer on this journey.

How's everyone else?

Smileybobs29 · 21/08/2016 08:22

That's fantastic sunshine, I knew you were going to get one I just knew it! I know what you mean though like it's too good to possibly be true! 2 more days for me, it's killing me, still spotting on and off the brown discharge so I'm not very confident but taking each day at a time. X

sunshineonarainyday1 · 21/08/2016 08:37

Thanks smiley. Be positive hun, the fact that it's stayed brown this whole time has got to be a good sign. I hope the next two days go quick. I'm now moving into another two week wait.....it's never ending isn't it!

Smileybobs29 · 21/08/2016 08:43

That's what I was trying to tell myself too but can't help but think 8 days is a long time for it to be going on, but suppose I'll know one way or another in 2 days time.
Oh I know it's just wait wait wait isn't it but that 1st hurdle is over now, hope the second 2weeks are a lot nicer wait, so happy for you x

GilbertBlythe4JM · 21/08/2016 15:24

Oh fantastic news sunny!!!! So pleased for you! Now another interminable wait til the early scan. Xxx

sunshineonarainyday1 · 21/08/2016 15:43

smiley I don't know think anything can really reassure you. Not until Tuesday morning. Please let us know the outcome. Really have my fingers crossed for you. I know it's been 8 days but if it's still old blood....

Thanks Gilbert. I know I'm not out of the woods, barely out of the blocks but it's in the right direction and yes now another painful wait!! We told my sister in law earlier and she was asking questions about when I'll be due and I was like "hold on a sec....most normal couples would be planning due dates and maternity leave start but it's very different when you've gone through IVF. Could end any moment". She has 2 children conceived with no issues at all and has no idea of the pain of IVF....luckily for her.

GilbertBlythe4JM · 21/08/2016 15:54

Yes - it took months with my dd's pregnancy to actually believe we'd end up with a baby at the end of it - you get so used to the disappointments and false starts of ivf it can be very difficult to change yr mindset to a positive one.
Smiley I still have faith - if it was your period you'd know it was. Two more nights to go xx

sunshineonarainyday1 · 22/08/2016 19:48

Good luck for tomorrow smiley. I have everything crossed for you my lovely xxx

Smileybobs29 · 23/08/2016 08:21

BFN... I knew deep down really, I knew I didn't feel this way with my successful cycle I just clung on to the hope since there was no proper period. I'm devastated like most of you are probably feeling. Want to get straight back on it with my Frosties as soon as I can. Thanks for all your support in my 2ww ladies x

Smileybobs29 · 23/08/2016 08:33

Wait!!! I don't know what to think I took the clinics test fmu bfn I've taken a boots digital smu cos I'm a sucker for punishment and its come up pregnant! Which do I listen to!!

Smileybobs29 · 23/08/2016 08:46

So confusing advice needed! Shall I do another or ring my clinic?! Xx

Anyone else having IVF for second child after IVF for first?!?
sunshineonarainyday1 · 23/08/2016 08:50

Oh smiley..so confusing. I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but my clinic told me not to do a digital clear blue as the meds interfere with it. Can you get a normal clear blue test? The one that comes up with a cross? Did the clinic only give you the one test?

GilbertBlythe4JM · 23/08/2016 08:56

But surely if you had an hcg trigger it would deffo be out of your system now? I'd rind yr clinic. I wonder if yr gp would do a beta blood test?

Smileybobs29 · 23/08/2016 09:10

Its been 20 days since my trigger shot? Dh has gone out to get me another test I've told him to get me a normal one not digital, yeah they only gave me one test and I peed on it buT didn't see any liquid moving so I stupidly dunked it in the toilet bad move I now so that's why I didn't fully trust it and I remembered I had hat digital one in my draw. I thought about that Gilbert ringing docs or clinic and seeing if they can do bloods. Let's see what this next test says xx

sunshineonarainyday1 · 23/08/2016 09:11

I didn't even have a trigger shot as I was FET and they told me not to use digital.

Agree tho. Ring the clinic. Beta bloods would be much better option.

Smileybobs29 · 23/08/2016 09:28

Course I keep forgetting that! I'll do this other test and ring clinic explain and see what they think and I'll ask for for bloods. My head is completely messed up I've spent all morning since 5am crying and now I don't know what to think! If I haven't said it before I hate this game!!!!!! X

GilbertBlythe4JM · 23/08/2016 09:41

You dipped it in the loo water?! No wonder it came back negative you crazy lady!! Xx
