Anyone starting IUI soon? Looking for some support

I've been offered three rounds of stimulated IUI after ttc for 8 years.

We have undiagnosed infertility but I'm 36 and can feel the clock ticking.

I'm expecting af to arrive around the 1st of December and I'll start my injections for the first cycle soon after.

Is anyone else in a similar boat?

Closephine i forgot to mention - with me AF normally arrives 2 days after stopping progesterone... Just when I start hoping that all the tests were sonehow wrong about bfn...
Boy is this an emotional rollercoaster!

closephine85 · 31/12/2015 13:17

Hi Kwick - good luck with your current cycle! Yes, I agree my clinic is pretty rubbish but it's my only option where I live. Luckily my cycle fell in the right place for IUI to take place before they closed.

My AF arrived today after stopping the progesterone Tuesday morning, and like you I was starting to hope that perhaps the 5 tests I've used were all wrong hah!

Salimali15 · 31/12/2015 17:24

Oh no, Kwick! I had the same thing with my poor Mum when I was injecting - the hormones don't have play around with your moods. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. I'm feeling OK, thanks. Focusing on other things to keep my mind off having to wait until March for IUI round 2 due to work.

There will always be that hope, Closephine. Are you still thinking of IVF in March? Have you found a UK clinic to do it?

Happy New Year everyone! Baby dust to us all!

Kwick709 · 02/01/2016 16:22

Salimali15 · 03/01/2016 00:03

Great news! Fingers and toes crossed.

Now that we are back on the DTD trying for a few months, have just been into Boots and bought some clear blue advanced OPKs. £26.99!!!! That is daylight robbery! Have used the first steps cheapo ones up to now but as we've not had a sniff of a BFP with them, I thought I'd splash out.

closephine85 · 03/01/2016 14:53

I have a clearblue fertility monitor Sali and the sticks are daylight robbery - so much so that I am just going to do the same as you this month and get the standard ones from boots. Amazon wanted £84.99 for 60! Used to pay about £30 for 20 sticks but for some reason they're only selling them in packs of 60 at the moment.

I'm calling my clinic tomorrow to say I don't want any more IUI before having my laparoscopy (and then most likely straight in to Ivf after that) - I'm going to ask them if I can have the progesterone again tho without the IUI. It made such a big difference to my AF - I normally have at least 3 (sometimes 5!) days of spotting before AF starts properly. With the progesterone I only had spotting in the evening before AF started properly the following morning. That must mean it's done something positive to my cycle don't you think?! And perhaps means there is a progesterone issue going on?!?

Kwick709 · 03/01/2016 15:38

That is indeed daylight robbery! I do not trust the Boots strip OPKs but that is only because I did not do a parallel run - for One Step I did a cycle where I used both Clearblue and One Step - the results were identical.

I have just come back from my 5th IUI. My consultant did this one and noted on the quantity of muccus (which is a Menopur side effect) - this is supposed to be very beneficial for magic potion :) now for the 2WW...

findingmyfeet12 · 04/01/2016 06:49

Happy new year ladies.

I've been absent since I got my bfn as I was a bit down about it.

Today is my fourth day of stimming for my second cycle. We're calling the hospital today for an ultrasound appointment.

I'll catch up with the thread in my break at work.

Hi FMF sorry to hear you've been down. I know that feeling well! Try to allow myself two days of wallowing per cycle and then I pull myself together again. Onwards and upwards!

Good luck with this cycle. Really hope it works for you this time.

closephine85 · 05/01/2016 11:02

Just went to buy ovulation sticks and I've bought the same ones as you Sali - £26.99 for 10! I've also realised that they do the exact same job as my feriity monitor (telling you both high and peak days) which I think pretty much makes my monitor obsolete and would explain why the sticks are so hard to find on Amazon. So that's £100 wasted as I've had it over a year and barely used it as we started follicle tracking a couple of months after I bought it. Damn.

findingmyfeet12 · 05/01/2016 14:12

I've never bothered with ovulation testing - relying on ewcm instead.

Is there any advantage to testing during my IUI cycle?

Also forgot to add - welcome to thread Kwick!

Salimali15 · 05/01/2016 19:25

That's so annoying Closephine!

How are you feeling now FMF? I would think that there probably isn't any need to testing during IUI as the clinics monitor you.

I've just received an NHS gynaecology appointment for the 20th Jan. Typically, it's at a time that would be impossible for me to do so will have to ring tomorrow and beg to change it. I think I'm going to tell them that I've had all of the tests done privately but then tell a fib that we haven't had any treatment so far. Is that awful?!

Kwick709 · 05/01/2016 20:19

My clinic asks me to monitor with OPKs for LH surge - even though they typically scan me every other day - it helps them pinpoint when a blood test may be required or when to trigger ovulation. I am doing IUI. The only cycle I did mot do this for FMF was the last one which was medicated - apparently Menopur can give a false positive that is why I did not test this cycle. Thanks for warm welcome :)

Salimali as someone recently told me - if you are never naughty when will you know when you are good?! Go for it!

findingmyfeet12 · 06/01/2016 09:29

I had my day 9 ultrasound today and I have two follicles but they're only 9mm and 10mm.

I'm waiting for the hospital to call me about whether to increase my dosage.

I had one 14mm follicle this time last cycle.

OP posts:
Kwick709 · 06/01/2016 19:01

FMF please do not be too despondent... I have a lot of variability with each cycle... How much of what are you taking?

findingmyfeet12 · 06/01/2016 19:28

I'm on puregon (50).

The hospital hasn't increased my dose. I have to go back for another scan on Friday.

OP posts:
Salimali15 · 10/01/2016 11:16

How was your scan FMF?

Hope you're all doing ok. I'm having a 'so bored with this all' day.

findingmyfeet12 · 10/01/2016 12:45

Hi Sali,

I had another scan yesterday morning and I have one follicle at 15.5.

I've been told to trigger tonight ready for the insemination on Tuesday morning.

Where are you in your cycle at the moment?

OP posts:
Salimali15 · 10/01/2016 13:40

That's a good size, isn't it?

I'm on Day 19. It feels such a waste of a month to be going back to natural DTD.

findingmyfeet12 · 10/01/2016 13:46

I think I'll probably make the 17mm minimum but not much more that.

I know how you feel about the wasted time. Have you been monitoring this cycle?

My doctor asked me at the scan whether my last cycle was unsuccessful... No, it worked but I thought I'd just come and have another scan for the hell of it.

OP posts:
Salimali15 · 10/01/2016 14:11

Unless he was asking if you had a chemical pregnancy like I had?

I've been doing OPKs and harassing DP at the appropriate time. Not pinning any hopes at all though.

Salimali15 · 17/01/2016 10:43

Any news with any of you, girls? Hope you're all well. xx
