Anyone starting IUI soon? Looking for some support

I've been offered three rounds of stimulated IUI after ttc for 8 years.

We have undiagnosed infertility but I'm 36 and can feel the clock ticking.

I'm expecting af to arrive around the 1st of December and I'll start my injections for the first cycle soon after.

Is anyone else in a similar boat?

We've not gone as far as applying as all of the information we found online gave the same stipulations so it's pretty much pointless, unfortunately.

closephine85 · 06/12/2015 21:57

Glad to hear your DHs count has improved finding - my DHs low count is a bit of a mystery really. Nothing he does seems to be improving it, but at least doing the IUI means we get an analysis every month or so which gives us some information at the very least.

Adoption seems like a tough road. I almost had at the back of my head 'well there's always adoption' thinking it would be easy but once I started doing a bit of research I realised Id been a bit naive!

findingmyfeet12 · 07/12/2015 06:55

I'm not sure why it improved Closephine. He hasn't made any lifestyle changes.

I worked in the area of adoption some years ago and it is a minefield. I really feel for people who are navigating that route. It's not something that appeals to us at the moment but who can say what will happen in the future.

So I had my 9 day scan and bloods. Only one follicle of 13mm. I'm gutted.

I've been told to continue the meds for another two days and scan again on Saturday morning.

Keep positive FMF. Did they tell you to up your dosage?

findingmyfeet12 · 10/12/2015 20:58

No they told me to stick with the same dosage.

If we're unsuccessful this cycle I'm going to ask for a higher dosage for the next cycle.

Hi fmf
Fingers crossed for your scan tomorrow. You only need one egg so as long as that one grows your in with a shot!

I had my 12 day scan this morning and I'm a little worried that due to the weekend and no IUI on a Tuesday in my hospital that I may not be able to have it this month.

My lining was 8.9mm and I had three folicles at 12mm so I have to go back on Monday for another scan (but they won't do IUI Monday based on today's scan). So there's a chance I could ovulate over the weekend, or at least before Wednesday at any rate! All very confusing :(

On a more positive note I am being prescribed Progesterone to support my cycle even if IUI doesn't go ahead.

findingmyfeet12 · 11/12/2015 15:09

Three at 12mm is great Closephine. I can understand what you mean about the timing issue. Would decreasing your meds help to delay ovulation?

I wasn't told anything about lining. I don't know much about that in general (will look it up this evening).

closephine85 · 11/12/2015 17:20

I'm on natural cycle IUI so no meds - just have to wait and see what happens! Would really like it to go ahead :(

Lining should ideally be at least 8mm at the time of ovulation I think. But I've been told anything over 5mm you're still in with a chance. 8.9 on day 12 is pretty good for me as I normally only get to about 8 at the time of ovulation, so another reason I'd really like the IUI to happen this month!

How are you both doing?

findingmyfeet12 · 11/12/2015 19:31

Fingers crossed that the dates work out for you. It's pretty gutting when you think you'll have to wait for another cycle.

I'll remember to ask about lining tomorrow at the hospital.

I've just had my puregon jab and I'll probably not sleep very well tonight.

Salimali15 · 13/12/2015 15:06

Good luck for tomorrow Closephine. Let us know how it goes. 3 is the perfect number of follicles to have and I'm sure 12mm will be fine. Fingers crossed.

How did you sleep FMF? How was your lining?

I'm still ploughing on with my 2WW - thank goodness I've been crazy busy at work this week so I've managed to keep my mind off it so far.

findingmyfeet12 · 13/12/2015 15:47

When are you going to test Salimali?

My lining was 7mm and the follicle was 17mm. I took the trigger shot last night as instructed and will have the procedure tomorrow morning.

OP posts:
Salimali15 · 13/12/2015 18:14

17mm is great! Hooray!

I'm due to test next Sunday. Apparently the effects of the trigger shot last 10 days and you can get a false BFP during that time. So I may do a sneaky test a few days early.

closephine85 · 13/12/2015 19:21

Good luck for your procedure tomorrow findingmyfeet!

Salimali how are you finding your 2ww? Good luck for whenever you test! The first time I did the trigger shot I tested to see when it was out my system, it was gone by day 11. I think everyone is different but should be fairly safe to test one or two days early!

Back for a scan tomorrow morning. I don't think I've ovulated yet but slightly worried I will ovulate before Wednesday. I guess I just have to wait and see!

findingmyfeet12 · 13/12/2015 22:49

Thanks Closephine, good luck at your scan. I haven't done any research but I wonder whether there are any supplements that you can take to delay ovulation?

I hope you manage to hold out for as long as possible Salimali. I'm terrible for symptom spotting so I'll probably drive myself insane over the next couple of weeks.

OP posts:
closephine85 · 14/12/2015 09:37

Symptom spotting as much as you try and avoid thinking about it is just inevitable isn't it!

Just had my scan, lining was 11mm and folicle 22mm I think so going ahead with IUI Wednesday and just hoping I don't ovulate before!!

Here's a funny story... We haven't told my husbands side of the family about our struggles, however about a month ago my SIL started working at the hospital pharmacy. She just took my prescription for progesterone and Ovitrelle trigger shot!! Fairly safe to say she knows now... Awkward.

closephine85 · 14/12/2015 09:51

Oh bloody hell, just thought. What if she has to tell me HOW to take the progesterone (rectally or vaginally!!)?! Is there no dignity left for me...

Salimali15 · 14/12/2015 20:38

Were all three follicles 22mm?

The progesterone 'things' make me giggle. I told DP that they are waxy and he now insists on calling them F*y Crayons!

closephine85 · 14/12/2015 20:46

I think he only measured the biggest one. Not quite sure how it works in a stimulated cycle but I think when it's natural, one becomes dominant and the others shrink back down. I could be wrong tho, but as generally only one egg is released I think that's what happens.

Haha!! Lovely! I don't start using them until Friday. This whole process really is so invasive isn't it!?

Salimali15 · 14/12/2015 20:50

The actual insemination and scans, yep. I'm fine with the progesterone, to be honest, as it is just like using a non-applicator tampon.

closephine85 · 14/12/2015 20:59

Sorry, yes I was mainly referring to the scans and I find the insemination the worst part . Progesterone wise the actual process I don't mind the thought of, it was more the thought of my SIL knowing about it and also the dr explaining. I don't know... I'm just having a wobble this evening. Just wish something that is supposed to be private didn't have to be quite so public! Not sure
I'm explaining myself very well :)

Salimali15 · 14/12/2015 21:19

Do you get on OK with your SIL? Is she likely to tell the rest of your husband's family? She shouldn't as she found out in a professional capacity.

Fortunately I can't remember the insemination as I was still drugged up from the follicle reduction! I'm very lucky that my nurses really put me at ease when I'm having scans. Just have to keep thinking that it is a means to an end.

Feel free to wobble with us anytime. I'm having a bit of one today as I'm starting to feel a bit 'crabby' which is usually the first sign of impending AF.

findingmyfeet12 · 14/12/2015 21:30

We haven't told anyone in dh's family as none of them can keep a secret. It was actually my dh who suggested that we not tell them but speak to my dm instead for support.

Yes I agree with Salimali that your sil should keep any patient information confidential.

I had my IUI yesterday. I'm a bit worried as I feel really weak, achy and feverish.

I'm not sure whether this is normal or not?

OP posts:
closephine85 · 15/12/2015 16:12

Hi findingmyfeet I would give your hospital a call. It could just be a coincidence and a side effect from some of the drugs your taking but I'd call and check to be safe. I felt fine after my procedure, but only had it once so far (2nd time tomorrow).
