Just thought I'd create a second thread for those following this case.

So supposing their theory is wrong. Footprints etc would be gone.

its a missing person enquiry with no evidence at this time of criminality. The police are not going to take casts of footprints in a large area just on the off chance. It’s not the tv.

If there had been any evidence of a crime them they would have progressed to a crime scene examination. I deal with MP nearly every day at work and you would not do crime scene examinations just on the off chance unless criminality was suspected.

melonraspberry · 05/02/2023 20:33

If she usually had her phone on loudspeaker, perhaps in such an isolated spot she had it on loud, and was pacing about, and just misjudged and fell. It would also explain the harness on the floor, she wasn’t sat down, she took it off the dog and carried on pacing. It is a pretty steep bank. The phone was on the seat, and she was moving .

TokyoSushi · 05/02/2023 20:35

I'm starting to feel a bit like Maddie in The Traitors, but as I said on the previous thread, I really don't think that she's fallen in the water.

But I also have no other explanation. What a nightmare.

If she was pacing, the phone most likely would have gone in with her I think.

There’s no evidence of anything though, is there? No evidence to suggest she slipped down the bank either.

Crumpetdisappointment · 05/02/2023 20:38

perhaps stopping the dog from going into the water, and fell herself.

Jennybeans401 · 05/02/2023 20:39

I don't think she fell in the water. They did extensive searches with a diving team and equipment, also the river is very still in that area so her body would be unlikely to move quickly down stream.

Could she have been interrupted? Someone waiting on the path. Someone who did not not drive and enter through the car parks. I'm not sure where the cctv is or how extensive it is though.

melonraspberry · 05/02/2023 20:42

She could have left the phone on the bench and been pacing

but it really doesn’t look like a river you would easily fall in . And the spaniel had obviously been there loads before, if there was a chance it would get into trouble it wouldn’t have been off lead, and it was running between the bench and the gate, which doesn’t make sense at all, surely it would be on the river side .

I also don’t think she fell in but have no other explanations which aren’t wild speculation.

WolfFoxHare · 05/02/2023 20:44

If she really did fall in, the likeliest explanation in my opinion is that she had a medical episode while standing right on the bank of the river, and fell in and drowned while incapacitated. Then her body had been carried out to sea by the currents. I don’t know the river at all so don’t know how likely that is.

I think some posters think a forensic crime scene examination is the smoking gun which will give the answers. It’s not. There is around 170,000 missing person reports each year.

melonraspberry · 05/02/2023 20:47

As in she maybe fainted ? Could have sat down as felt a bit off and then got up to walk it off and fainted.

only thing with that was she was arranging play dates etc and surely you’d just do the bare essentials if you were feeling a bit rough.

She could have had an aneurysm or embolism, which in some cases give very little warning. if it was very sudden, the dog might not even have seen her fall in - I think the bank is fairly steep there?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/02/2023 20:57

There would he evidence of someone sliding down the bank though.

juneonthemoon · 05/02/2023 20:57

The dog could have ran off. She's gone to look for it, perhaps worried the dog fell in the river, slipped and fell in. Then the dog has reappeared looking confused

This is probably the likely scenario. I'm still a bit confused as to why she left her phone though.

So we have people placemarking and checking in?

this thread has become no more than entertainment to some and it’s high time it was deleted.

this isn’t Netflix.

Jennybeans401 · 05/02/2023 21:03

@juneonthemoon the fog was dry though, no evidence it fell in the river

I have not posted on the threads so far. I find the whole speculation and I'll-informed views incredibly distasteful.

I'm just commenting on this post, and others like it. I can understand people being surprised Nicola hasn't been found, if she fell in the river.

A son of a close friend died in similar tragic circumstances in a European country. He was seen on CCTV returning from a night out to a certain point, very close to home. They searched the nearby water, a canal, extensively. Sadly it was 7 weeks before his body was recovered. In that time his family explored every other option you could imagine. The effort put in by the family, police & friends was enormous. He was found almost exactly where he'd gone missing. For no very clear reason, just the height of the water, his body was not found in the previous searches.

Of course it is possible that poor Nicola fell in & drowned & yet her body has not been recovered. That is almost definitely what happened but sadly it may be some time before this is confirmed.

My deepest sympathies are with Nicola's family & friends 💔

I agree. Some people seem to be hoping that it was foul play and not a tragic accident.

The amount of people I have seen post 'I listen and read a lot of true crime so I have my theories' as if listening to a couple of podcasts makes them more knowledgeable than the police.

I suspect so. They can do 10 miles a day apparently . They are a big very high tech outfit .

I feel a bit for the police, the officer in charge right now is going to be hoping like fuck they find her, because if they don’t, the public outcry will be enormous, as it would indicate something criminal has happened.

I suspect they will find her though.

I feel slightly cynical about the fact this guy has just this week launched a book so has a motivation for seeking self-publicity.

I’m sure they’re a credible team and it can’t do any harm to have extra resources on the search but I feel a bit sceptical about them being positioned as the cavalry riding in to the rescue.
