Just thought I'd create a second thread for those following this case.

Honestly? You don't know her. That's disgusting.

I lost someone in similar, but different, circumstances just over 20 years ago. I am now thanking god that social media wasn't how it is now. If I'd had to read the speculation and comments and theories I don't think I'd have got through it. It's not a fucking tv drama. It's not entertainment.

Shame on Mumsnet for allowing some of the comments on these threads to stand. Her poor family.

@7vio

Please stop. It's hard to believe you have looked at her personal FB account. This is not entertainment.

In fairness her friends on fb who’ve posted details of the search etc have tagged her Facebook page in their posts.

I think it is important to keep NB profile up without unpalatable speculation.

If she has ‘walked away from her life’ or become ill or disoriented then she needs to be front of mind to jog memories or alert people to be vigilant in any part of the U.K.

MayThe4th · 05/02/2023 21:29

I think it is important to keep NB profile up without unpalatable speculation. people here are incapable of doing that.

Blueberrywitch · 05/02/2023 19:03

This is an excellent point. A spaniel would have jumped in after it’s owner

@Blueberrywitch

that's really not a given.

it's worrying the Campsite CCTV 'wasn't working'.

I hope the expert team don't find her in the river tomorrow & it forces the investigation into another direction.

Bluekerfuffle · 05/02/2023 21:37

melonraspberry · 05/02/2023 20:42

She could have left the phone on the bench and been pacing

but it really doesn’t look like a river you would easily fall in . And the spaniel had obviously been there loads before, if there was a chance it would get into trouble it wouldn’t have been off lead, and it was running between the bench and the gate, which doesn’t make sense at all, surely it would be on the river side .

I also don’t think she fell in but have no other explanations which aren’t wild speculation.

There seem to still be various versions of what happened as I read Willow was found darting between the river and bench, not bench and gate.

BeethovenNinth · 05/02/2023 21:39

The fact the only camera which could help was broken seems a bit odd to me. How long has it been broken for?

orangetriangle · 05/02/2023 21:39

just hope they can get some answers soon

Bluekerfuffle · 05/02/2023 21:40

I agree, it’s not a given that the dog would have gone in the water. If she went in, it might not have even witnessed it if it was bush sniffing something or had wandered off a bit. It would then be left wondering where she had gone and hanging about where it had last seen her and her possessions were.

Why is it odd? It’s common for systems to be broken/no recording especially it they are older systems.

Eatentoomanyroses · 05/02/2023 21:49

I don’t know why people keep saying their dog would jump in. We’ve got a spaniel. It wouldn’t jump in a river if it’s tail was on fire.

WhoNeedsSleepNotISaidMyBody · 05/02/2023 21:54

I agree. Some people seem to be hoping that it was foul play and not a tragic accident

@NerrSnerr I think you're misunderstanding peoples intent. If there was a tragic accident & she ended up in the river, there now only one outcome.

if it was something else, there's a hopeful chance she's still alive.

it's just beyond most peoples comprehension that a woman can disappear without trace in a place like that.

I feel slightly cynical about the fact this guy has just this week launched a book so has a motivation for seeking self-publicity.

I’m sure they’re a credible team and it can’t do any harm to have extra resources on the search but I feel a bit sceptical about them being positioned as the cavalry riding in to the rescue.

That's surely coincidental. His book came out, he is passionate about his business and as expert offers his thoughts. He is adamant she didn't end up in the river so now he can prove it. I will never look at rivers in the same way again, very creepy and off-putting. It's turning into a media circus, poor family, poor kids, poor community. I wonder of NB's closest friends who love her and know her have any suspicions.

I wonder if NB has ever disappeared before? The police will know so much more than we do. Does she have any mental health conditions or near diversity? Has she had a mental health crisis before? If they answer is no to all these it's very unlikely she wanted to get away and leave her girls behind. There was little flexibility in her routine, I find that very weird and suffocating but she sought out this routine.

Did she or her DH have any difficult dealings with any neighbours or people in this small village? Any falling outs with anyone? Money issues or dealings?

Do her colleagues know that she went dog walking regularly, possibly during other work calls?

Probably because many spaniels do like water, and this dog has been pictured in the river often.

Prayers and thoughts for family and friends of Nicola Bulley.

I hope you are finding strength and the love and support from each other to get this most difficult time. ❤

Cosmos123 · 05/02/2023 22:13

MMBaranova · 05/02/2023 22:14

These events are puzzling and to be honest we may never know. She either went into the water or otherwise left the scene. If the former, she may well have fallen in in some way we won't ever know as it wasn't observed. Freakish accidents happen. Her body will probably be found and some will come up with all sorts of ideas but they won't make complete sense and we just won't know. It's possible she went into the water of her own accord, but that doesn't become a clearer option unless more evidence of her state of mind surfaces.

The friends and family clearly hope that there is another explanation and she didn't go into the water. Options here broadly break down into her heading off of her own accord leaving her life behind her, or being coerced. With either of these there needs to be some evidence in terms of sightings of her or someone else / insights into her emotional and mental state if any headway is to be made in the investigation.

As things stand at the moment I assume that the Police presumption that she is a missing person and that their focus is on the water is reasonable. It might not turn out to be right.

Zosime · 05/02/2023 22:15

I wonder if ..... The police will know so much more than we do.

Surely all of this is just the sort of speculation that is unnecessary. If anything of the sort has happened, the police will have found out about it. The rest of us don't need to know or speculate.

7vio · 05/02/2023 22:19

@EarringsandLipstick
like I said, I was just checking the news on Facebook, and if you type Nicola’s name name, it comes with latest updates. I don’t read the Daily Mail and I don’t watch the news. Stop accusing me of doing something awful and inappropriate. I stumbled across her page, it’s her professional page, I was not stalking her, for goodness sake. This is an odd story and just like a lot of us, I’m just trying to understand what could have happened to her. I really do hope that the lady is found and that she is well and alive.

SlaveToTheVibe · 05/02/2023 22:27

I’m watching the news - I can’t believe there’s people sitting on the bench etc, no cordons in sight. People strolling about for a wee day out…. just seems so wrong in many ways

People took their kids too. Ghouls.

Activelyannoyed · 05/02/2023 22:29

also the river is very still in that area

This is incorrect. The river is tidal in that area, deep and also fast moving.

anyway the police are bringing in extra divers. They clearly don’t wish the specialist team to step in and find her, the police have declined their help. But they are going up and will work with the police. It seems they have some quite specialised equipment.

if I was the police, I’d bite their hands off.

Yes I am really surprised at that, I’d have thought they’d cordon it off.

I think the family accepted. Not the police.
