Just thought I'd create a second thread for those following this case.

If Nicola did walk away, she possibly could have tied the dog up and the dog slipped the harness trying to follow ? Would explain the harness being on the floor

Peverellshire · 07/02/2023 10:33

@Plitvice I’ve noticed this too, no ‘we all adore you’ etc. May be his manner of course. He’s never mentioned her by name either, not odd poss just that I would in circumstances. Not suggesting culpability here.

coteliq · 07/02/2023 10:33

what needs to happen for the police to open a criminal investigation?

If she's not found in the water and there had been no evidence that she left the river bank as the police said earlier then what would the police say?

I mean pp go missing everyday but not all cases lead to criminal investigation.

melonraspberry · 07/02/2023 10:34

I think he’s just appealing to the police and people looking because of his children. In this situation your greatest pain would be for your children wouldn’t it.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 07/02/2023 10:35

Could the dog have picked up her phone and carried it around while looking for her?

melonraspberry · 07/02/2023 10:36

Her partner’s response feels very like how I think I would respond. Even down to the smile during the interview, I would do that I know. And I wouldn’t be referring to my own pain.

AmillionReasons · 07/02/2023 10:36

'I wonder if her relationship was going through a rough patch. Her partner mentions their daughters missing her and loving her but he does not say it about himself.'

Yes I did notice that too. But then again i would imagine he will be so mentally exhausted, devastated, probably on medication etc, that saying what each and every member of the public perceive to be 'the right thing' will be utterly impossible. Who knows what we ourselves would come across like should a similar unimaginable tragic situation happen. The way he talked isn't how I'd imagine I would be, I'm not sure I'd be able to even give an interview, if I did I'd probably react more like her dad, but then again who knows! We are all different.

Togoodtobeforgotten · 07/02/2023 10:31

But perhaps she wasn't thinking they would think she'd gone in the river perhaps it is a case of I will leave my phone here and that way nobody will be able to contact me.

She'd just arranged a playdate for her daughters at a friend's. There are only two possible reasons to do that. One is that she intended to take them. The other is that she wanted to make it look like she intended to take them but that something had happened to her.

So either something happened that she wasn't expecting or she set it up to look like it had. I don't believe a mother would do that to her daughters.

TheUsualChaos · 07/02/2023 10:39

I think he is understandably in extreme shock and terrified of being in front of the cameras. I think he was on autopilot just trying to get through it all without breaking down.

I agree, thing is we don't know what's going on and we don't know the family. The police will know and they will have a bit of a picture what is going on. Also as someone else said about the sniffer dogs if she were to have left on her own accord then the sniffer dogs would have picked up a scent so I guess it depends on where the scent took the sniffer dogs too perhaps the scent went to the river and that was it and that is what makes them so sure that she is in the river?

PetsRFuss · 07/02/2023 10:39

Peter Faulding comes across like a gem, very professional and he knows exactly what is talking about. All credit to him.

I actually agree with the posters saying it's impossible to disappear without a trace and how odd it s that the one camera that could have captured her at the camp site / caravan park was out of service.

Please can someone remind me who it was that found her dog and the phone? And who was the witness that saw her last?

If PF says a third party may be involved I 100% believe him. People like him know what the are talking about book or no book.

Could possibly be.

Activelyannoyed · 07/02/2023 10:42

Honestly anything could have happened here. It could even be a Shannon Mathews copy cat, based on last nights request for a hundred grand, then reducing to 50 and then 5 and not just removing immediately. If it is then she’s going to turn up soon enough, it could be foul play and someone trying to profiteer, and at the other end it could be she’s fallen in and snagged on some undergrowth some where, and everything in between.

I would now be very surprised if she’s fallen in and drowned and suspect something else is at play here. And that the police know and are going with it till they can prove it. I don’t think this is as it was portrayed at all.

I agree. It just doesn't feel like the decent thing to do at this point to even subtly hint anything about the boyfriend.

Police must have done sufficient investigation and probably still keep eyes on any possible new leads. Most people aren't capable to plan crime without leaving any trace. So probably give some basic confidence to the police and give the boyfriend a break and stop trying to indicate him until any substantial evidence pops up?

I really can't see it being foul play it's way to small a timeline it could be something to do with someone on the caravan park but not in the way you think maybe they have just helped her.

You can't say she hasn't fallen in because we just don't know and it is possible that she did.

Plitvice · 07/02/2023 10:48

I am not suggesting that the boyfriend is involved at all or that there is any foul play. I just think that if it were me, my Dh would not say that the DCs missed me and needed me but say it on behalf of all three, himself included (despite not being one to openly express his emotions in public).

TheUsualChaos · 07/02/2023 10:49

Do find it a bit odd PF saying he would have expected her to be very close to the bench where she fell in because we don't actually know that point IS where she fell in just because her phone was left on the bench.

Where does it say there's a third party involved? That's a new one and could also mean that someone has helped her.

That’s as you’re assuming she left the phone and dog there. There is absolutely nothing to say she did, no one saw her at the bench, she was last seen in a field a few mins away and earlier. Making rhe window much wider.

there is literally nothing to say as her stuff and the dog was there, it was her who left them there.

Peverellshire · 07/02/2023 10:50

@Return2thebasic agree, we have no idea how we’ll react & stunned, shock, etc.

Do find it a bit odd PF saying he would have expected her to be very close to the bench where she fell in because we don't actually know that point IS where she fell in just because her phone was left on the bench.

The point he is making that the situatino on the ground or water as he sees it means that he believes the body would be very close to where it fell in and would have been found by now. Given it hasn't been found by the phone, would suggest that she didn't fall in the water by the phone. If she did end up in the water, it was somewhere else. Possibly a long way upstream even.

itsnote · 07/02/2023 10:51

"Yet her Facebook page which she set to public depicts a lovely happy family life full of outings and holidays with her partner and children."

It doesn't though does it? That's another thing that is confusing people, up until 5th Dec she was regularly posting happy photos (including daily elf on the shelf antics). Then absolutely nothing ever again (other than bed for sale).

A woman who shared every event with lots of pics all of the time, who clearly loved Christmas "magic" with her kids and in the church etc. suddenly posts nothing at all. No more elf, no carol service, no christingle, no panto, no cookies for Santa, no Santa visit, no Christmas Day, no Boxing Day, no Happy New Year, no back to school....that's not normal and it just adds to the whole confusion surrounding her disappearance.

Activelyannoyed · 07/02/2023 10:52

Togoodtobeforgotten · 07/02/2023 10:47

You can't say she hasn't fallen in because we just don't know and it is possible that she did.

How odd. I didn’t say it I specifically said I’d be very surprised if she did. Please read it again.

TheUsualChaos · 07/02/2023 10:52

Was the phone and harness found on the bench or did someone pick it up and place it on the bench?
People do that all the time round here. A glove, a child's toy, keys, glasses etc. Finders leave it where it might hopefully get picked up again by the person who lost them.
