Just thought I'd create a second thread for those following this case.

Yet her Facebook page which she set to public depicts a lovely happy family life full of outings and holidays with her partner and children.

Oh come on its Facebook you see lots of images of what looks like everyone has the perfect life when in facta lot of the time it's not.

If this is about Nicola Bulley, you should probably have put her name in the thread title.

I honestly thought another woman had gone missing.

Me too!

Peverellshire · 07/02/2023 10:18

@TheUsualChaos do we know, with certainty, the dog was tied to a bench? With any more certainty than a man also there at time debating medical emergencies & ‘fishing bait’ luring dog to river’s edge? Does anyone know if he was the elderly man the police appealed for, early on?

Plitvice · 07/02/2023 10:18

It is more common than you would think. My aunt did it but even managed to rebuild a great relationship with the kids she left behind once they were well into adulthood. They also seem to do well in life despite her abandonment and bear no grudges.

But the sad thing is you don't know what's going on in someone else's life, perhaps she's desperately unhappy.

Can't believe she'd rather choose walking away by making such a drama to distraught the children and everyone than just being brave and going through a normal separation if she was really unhappy. Also someone's behaviour would have to be affected and appeared a bit strange beforehand, no? Someone should absolutely have picked up some unusual emotions from her. She's not a master manipulator to mask her feelings after all.

What do people mean by "walk away"? Do they mean suicide? If so, wouldn't they have found her anyway?

Sometimes people walk away from their lives either disoriented or deliberately and set up / hide out else where.

Or take own life - can take months to find someone who may have done this in a hidden / isolated place.

@ofwarren , @User45378754 , oh thanks. Wasn't away of that. Then it does change the plot profoundly...

“Plot”?

This isn’t some tacky Netflix drama, it’s somebody’s life

Yes I believe "in old days". But in the modern world, with technology penetrated nearly every corner of the planet, the chances of not being found is very slim unless you don't want to have a normal life.

Sorry, for bad wording. Not my native language. Badly chosen word. Apologies 😔

But if she's really on foot away on her own will, certainly there are other CCTV in the region to pick up the trace?

If she had someone waiting to pick her up then perhaps she knew where there would be no CCTV? I don't know I know it's a long river she could have walked however far and jumped in a car?

Peverellshire · 07/02/2023 10:25

Doing a ‘canoe man’ &/or trying to achieve a ‘new life’ is almost impossible in practice.

Most will fall at first hurdle & will be discovered almost immediately.

Maybe she diddnt think it would cause this much drama?

rosesarentalwaysred125 · 07/02/2023 10:27

when people go missing, family and police statements often say that this is out of character for the missing person and they'd never be out of touch with family. Sometimes mental health issues might be mentioned too, ie. he/she is vulnerable. In this case, the statements were very general and didn't mention Nicola's state of mind or whether this was out of character.

I don't know if the surveillance equipment is working as well as you would think. They still haven't tracked down Constance Marten even though they have spotted her on cctv in heavily built up parts of London with her partner and baby and even have footage of her shopping at Argos. It has been at least a month.

It's possible. Honestly, I don't know what would have been the best result. A quick closure would be finding her in the river, but that may not be what her family really want. They want her alive and safe, no matter where she is...

TheUsualChaos · 07/02/2023 10:28

I've just looked back on some of the BBC articles and they've said the dog was found loose off Garstang road. On the map, there is Allotment Lane which connect the walk she was on to the road. I don't know what to think now but probably the dog was simply looking for her along routes it is familiar with.

Mistressofnone · 07/02/2023 10:28

Though if she was to have trekked across fields, the sniffer dogs would have picked something up. None of this makes sense does it.

pigsinoodies · 07/02/2023 10:28

If you believe she's 'walked away' then you have to believe she's deliberately set up circumstances to make it appear to her family that she's drowned. Would any mother do that to her young daughters? I don't think so.

Agree. No way she'd have planned so well to leave no trace...

Plitvice · 07/02/2023 10:29

I wonder if her relationship was going through a rough patch. Her partner mentions their daughters missing her and loving her but he does not say it about himself.

Bluebellwood129 · 07/02/2023 10:30

@DingDonkey It could have potentially been embarrassing for the police given the claims Peter was making about finding Nicola very quickly if she was in the water. This was all over SM last night and I can see their point but surely getting answers as quickly as possible now is the most important thing after 10 days.

Peverellshire · 07/02/2023 10:30

@rosesarentalwaysred125 you’re correct. The partner’s statements mention his girls a lot & her name, ‘Nikki’ and ‘love’ too not mentioned I observe. Not that I am suggesting he’s culpable but this may somehow connect to your supposition.

But perhaps she wasn't thinking they would think she'd gone in the river perhaps it is a case of I will leave my phone here and that way nobody will be able to contact me.

With Constance , I suspect there's a large element is the people around where they are don't be bothered enough to report. It's not a black and white case to lots of people, even if they care.

ofwarren · 07/02/2023 10:32

I wonder what's going to happen if she is not found today then?
