Just thought I'd create a second thread for those following this case.

Emma has put on Facebook that the family weren’t aware of the GoFundMe, that she did it after friends asked how they could donate and someone else set it up for her and they wrote husband and set it to 100k! Personally I know a few sticky beaks like this who put themselves at the forefront in times of crises for their family and friends, acting all supportive but I can’t help think they love the attention and drama of it all. This woman is never far away from the camera is she? Might be time to take a step back.

Convenient it was someone else…..

Agree seems like a person with poor personal boundaries and social skills who has got emotionally whipped up and placed herself in the centre of the drama.

Do we know if the family, police or community appointed her as a spokesperson for them as she has done multiple interviews over the last 12 days?

upstream?
how likely is a body to go against the tide?

Tides go both ways - and also she could have entered the water further upstream eg where she was seen at 9:10 or where she usually loops back on her walk?

Peter Faulding on BBC Breakfast this morning
twitter.com/BBCBreakfast/status/1622859298350018560?t=mt6km53aBpeikw3Xz0iqAQ&s=19

Sally090807 · 07/02/2023 07:38

Well if she’s not in the river it’s either an abduction or she took her own life.

melonraspberry · 07/02/2023 07:38

Peter Faulding also on the Today programme saying if she fell in by the bench and drowned her body would have sunk, there’s not enough force in the river to have moved her downstream. And it was searched thoroughly the same day so if she was there she would have been found. His team will search today in case she was slightly further up and has now been moved down (I think that’s what he said, or maybe just trying to avoid saying ‘in case they missed her’. Sounds like if he doesn’t find her today he is going to say she’s not gone in.

melonraspberry · 07/02/2023 07:39

Sorry to be clear they will search the area near the bench today

SparkleBrows · 07/02/2023 07:40

Ah, Peter Faulding has a book out. Released this week

I knew he was enjoying the publicity too much.

Or she went of her own accord

No, there's another far more likely explanation.

I’m not sure many will believe that, Honestly it’s a step too far for me, I don’t believe for one moment she didn’t tell Paul that she was doing it. And setting it to 100 grand, then reducing to 50 and then to 5 just looks like trying desperately to get money.

the whole thing just is off. Something isn’t right about the whole thing.

Moonlightdust · 07/02/2023 07:19

I agree. No wonder it’s been blown up in the media. The Gofundme page was not a clever move either. Also all the contradictory information from police and the press has just added to the mystery and hype.

Hoping that missing 11 year old Kaitlyn Eason’s case is dealt with more efficiently and she is found safe too - this little girl deserves more media coverage.

kaitlyn was found x

People are quick to question why disappearances don’t always get the kind of attention that e.g. this one has. Well, getting attention isn’t a good thing it would seem.

The media need to shut up, Peter Falding (how coincidental that he has a book to promote) needs to shut his trap, if he’s there to actually help then get on with it and stop playing detective.

And these threads are and always have been in bad taste, and given the direction this is going are no longer fit for purpose. People on these threads are contributing to this chaos by e.g. stalking the facebook profiles of the friends and family. FGS.

The only people who need answers are the family.

The rest, including the friends who are seemingly now heightening the public suspicion and likely backlash against the family, need to shut the fuck up.

melonraspberry · 07/02/2023 07:44

I don’t find Peter Faulding too dodgy. I think he’s an expert who is obsessed with his craft and has obviously been media trained understands the importance of communication . Yes he has a book out but I suspect he’d have got involved in this regardless as it is so odd. We’re all following it, imagine what it is like for someone who is actually an expert in finding people in water .

melonraspberry · 07/02/2023 07:46

And I totally don’t agree everyone needs to shut up. Publicity is what is keeping this case going. It’s the family’s only real chance of having her found now imo.

Sally090807 · 07/02/2023 07:46

Just read this

Nicola Bulley dive expert claims ‘gut feeling’ there could be third party involvement in disappearance

ofwarren · 07/02/2023 07:47

I think people have a right to check the friends Facebook page when she's asking for 100 grand to be fair. How else can people tell the gofundme is legit?

SparkleBrows · 07/02/2023 07:54

I can think of somewhere else in the world "a world-leading confined space rescue and forensic search specialist" could be making himself useful currently 😥

Moonlightdust · 07/02/2023 07:56

I think the big mistake was not condoning the whole area from the word go. I understand that in missing people cases you can’t automatically tape off areas/undertake a big investigation when the initial scene leads to you to believe no 3rd party involvement. But in this case with factors such as a phone still on a teams call placed on a bench and the loose (dry) dog - there was more suspicion added to the fact she was not found in the river that first day. This has allowed everyone to wade in with their theories.

coffeesunrise · 07/02/2023 07:58

Without speaking to the police and thus only having the information available to the public, he went to the press and stated she wasn’t in the river; Irregardless of whether that’s the right guess or not, it’s simply not how things are done. It’s obvious that not all information will be public knowledge. We can all have a theory based on what we’ve read in the press, it’s not helpful or useful.

At every stage he’s chosen to speak to the media rather than letting information flow through the proper channels and he’s clearly given the family false hope. And he’s gone from finding her within the hour to days, to announcing if she’s not in the –tidal– river then there must be third party involvement… I imagine he’s hoping to sell enough books from all this free PR that he won’t need those police contracts, as I can’t imagine he’s done himself many favours here in that regard.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 07/02/2023 08:05

Agree - as soon as it became clear there were no slipping/tripping indicators down the side of the riverbank, the scene should have been cordoned off.

PetsRFuss · 07/02/2023 08:06

Sally090807 · 07/02/2023 07:38

Well if she’s not in the river it’s either an abduction or she took her own life.

Or she chose to disappear. This is becoming increasingly likely based on the developments.

Crumpetdisappointment · 07/02/2023 08:11

and of course the police dont have to tell us everything
is her job a risky job
money invovlement in a mortgage adviser.

Crumpetdisappointment · 07/02/2023 08:16

although it was strange that they said the searched the empty caravans.

Diverging · 07/02/2023 08:19

Nothing mentioned on LBC news at all. I bet if this was happening in London you would hear about it every day. The news is so London centric, they act like the rest of the country doesn’t exist.

I agree.

If this had happened in the South East of the UK he would have been on the case anyway.
