Just thought I'd create a second thread for those following this case.

I can think of somewhere else in the world "a world-leading confined space rescue and forensic search specialist" could be making himself useful currently 😥

Oh come on, the man has the right to choose what he does and doesn't help with. He could just as easily sit at home with a cup of tea and not bother himself with any of it.

He wouldn't sell so many copies of his book if he did that.

'think the big mistake was not condoning the whole area from the word go. I understand that in missing people cases you can’t automatically tape off areas/undertake a big investigation when the initial scene leads to you to believe no 3rd party involvement. But in this case with factors such as a phone still on a teams call placed on a bench and the loose (dry) dog - there was more suspicion added to the fact she was not found in the river that first day. This has allowed everyone to wade in with their theories.'

Agree with this. The police seem to think they already checked the area, what if they missed something? They seem to have tunnel vision on the falling in river theory with it being the most likely. I know they did check out the other theories but as thoroughly as this one I'm unsure.

Nothing mentioned on LBC news at all. I bet if this was happening in London you would hear about it every day. The news is so London centric, they act like the rest of the country doesn’t exist.

Or maybe there are other news stories which take precedence.

Diverging · 07/02/2023 08:32

And these threads are and always have been in bad taste, and given the direction this is going are no longer fit for purpose.

What you think no one should be talking about this at all? That this should just fade away? Isn’t it important to keep Nicola in the news and the publicity going so that more resources are directed towards the search and investigation?

DingDonkey · 07/02/2023 08:33

I'm confused about the water search. So he said that she wouldn't have moved from where she fell in but then why were they searching the tidal part of the river first (below the weir) if she wouldn't have moved she wouldn't have been down there? Surely the most logical place to search first would be where she fell in, presumably around the bench.

The Behaviour Panel (global body language experts) have reviewed PA interview and don’t find him suspicious at all.

@MayThe4th I find it hilarious that you're now acting all high and mighty telling people to "shut the fuck up".

You've been on every one of these threads since the start, speculating away with the best of them. I had to clarify some information, as a local, for you last week because you were imagining things that weren't there!

You've speculated that she may have only taken the dog so as not to alert anyone at home she was going intentionally missing.

You've accused her boss of only speaking to the media because he wants "the limelight".

You've said the police are likely trying to draw a suspect out of the woodwork by saying there's no third party and "waiting for the suspect to trip up".

That's before we've even got started on the depth and flow of the river on the days after she went missing and how the tide works. Have a fucking day off mate 😅

If it means all this ridiculous armchair speculation, including by those claiming to be helping stops, yes.

AndysAudi · 07/02/2023 08:42

Wouldn't they need a search warrant to search the other caravans?
The virtue signalling thread police is annoying. It's a big profile media case and they are addressing the public to help find NB. Of course people will talk on social media.

I trust the expert guy and why should he be helping with the earthquake when he has started on this job and the earthquake in Türkiye happened after his involvement in NB's case? And we don't know if he isn't advising or helping with that crisis as well.

I am wondering if there are posters from St Michael's on Wyre on this thread pushing their agenda whatever that is? It's a community in turmoil and the witnesses and people who live and work near where she disappeared all have had their lives turned upside down.

How v odd to be so definitive.

Why are you going against the wishes / needs of police and family?

If she was abducted or chose to walk away from her life - she could be anywhere in the U.K. - she needs to be front of mind.

Of course salacious gossip is unhelpful but communication is essential - why do YOU want to unilaterally shut it down?

Tamarindtree · 07/02/2023 08:44

SparkleBrows · 07/02/2023 07:28

It is odd how there's been nothing in the news about a missing 11yo but SM is reporting she's been found safe and well.

The Nicola case is very sad and mystifying but another pretty, white MC woman getting all the coverage, while others are forgotten.

Yet Denise Jarvis who is missing and is white, pretty and a similar age to Nicola has received little media attention.

Tamarindtree · 07/02/2023 08:49

Surely you can think of a possible reason given the way his team have been brought on board?

Genuinely, no. Unless after being briefed by the police he realised they'd looked pretty thoroughly there already so he decided to look where they hadn't looked yet?

kirinm · 07/02/2023 09:02

Some 'missing people' will have complicated lives or there will be sufficient information where the police are more certain of events. Most missing children return home.

I don't know how soon after Nicola's disappearance she became national news but, as was the case with Sarah Everard, her friends and family have fought hard to keep her in the news.

Lots of children go missing in London all the time - there was a child missing at the same time as Sarah Everard. He was black and didn't get the same sort of publicity but he also turned up.

The manner in which people go missing will be a massive factor in how / if it is reported.

Also, anyone who is willing to allow a go fund me page to suddenly sully this is pretty shallow and heartless in my opinion. Who gives a shit?

TheUsualChaos · 07/02/2023 09:02

I think perhaps it's the unusual circumstances that have brought attention to NB. You don't normally get such a narrow time window in which the person must have disappeared. Plus the nature of location, people around, open field make an abduction seem almost impossible yet there's been no trace of her. The phone being left on the still logged on to Teams also seems mysterious as people don't tend to put their phones down and leave them unattended.

That's ridiculous. LBC has given this story loads of coverage. There isn't anything new to report. Thousands have died in Turkey and quite rightly that is being given major coverage. Turkey isn't in London. And a Met Police officer is about to be sentenced for some of the most horrific rapes ever recorded.

I don’t find Peter Faulding too dodgy. I think he’s an expert who is obsessed with his craft and has obviously been media trained understands the importance of communication . Yes he has a book out but I suspect he’d have got involved in this regardless as it is so odd. We’re all following it, imagine what it is like for someone who is actually an expert in finding people in water .

I agree with this. Like the cave experts who went to Thailand to help rescue the boys trapped in a cave system.

Apparently the family had no idea the ‘friend’ did this.

If you're on hands free you can and people do. If she went to look something in the river she may have put on the bench. When I go out on my bike, stop to have a break, I put my phone on the bench next to me, I don't sit with it in my hand constantly.

The vast majority of people who go missing do so voluntarily. Most of them turn up quickly, often within hours. Here we have someone who is not obviously vulnerable and where there is an element of mystery about her disappearance, plus a partner and family who are willing to go on camera and make appeals. Those things all help to get media attention. And, once it has got media attention, it will stay in the spotlight while there is news to report because the media know people are interested.

Plitvice · 07/02/2023 09:18

I can't see how an iphone would have no marks on it to show that it had been handled by another person with different sized hands. I'm not talking about fingerprints necessarily but even glove marks get imprinted. If the phone had been handled by somebody other than Nicola then they would have said.

melonraspberry · 07/02/2023 09:18

But I’m reading now on the websleuths thread that her phone was found in the ground in the bench area. Which along with the harness being on the ground, is a bit different.
